Ordered Doordash since they're having a promo - 40% off $20 orders! Loved how my order came with complimentary fresh chips and salsa. The chips were so crispy and fresh and the salsa wasn't too spicy! Got the Sampler Plate ($22.95) and it came with 4 mini sopes rancheros, 4 mini quesadillas queso, epazote, 2 crispy taquitos (potato and chicken). The mini sopes rancheros were so cute and had a bean filling. It was a little dry but the bean filling was pretty good and not too salty. The mini quesadillas and taquitos were a bit overly fried and dry but it was not too bad. The guacamole was my favorite. It was freshly made and packed with flavor! It would have been better if the container was a bit bigger but not a big deal. The Guava Flan ($10.95) was tasty and creamy. It wasn't as soft as I was expecting but I liked how it wasn't overly sweet. It was nice they separated the whip cream from the flan since I'm not I'm not a fan of whip cream. Overall, I thought the food was ok but but seems slightly pricey if I had to pay full price
Stopped in for a drink and quick bite before catching a show at the Pasadena Playhouse which is right down the alley. Friendly and helpful bar staff. I tried their Classic Old Fashioned ($24) which was served over an Anayas' stamped cube of ice. My wife had a Lalo Cadillac Margarita ($24). Both cocktails were well made and very tasty. We also tried an order of the Queso Fundido con Chorizo ($16.70) served with a choice of tortillas. Again, it was very tasty. Overall, it was another good experience. I'm sure we'll stop by again.
If you're looking for an authentic Mexican brunch in Pasadena's playhouse district, Anaya's Restaurant is worth checking out. I've only been for their Sunday brunch, that runs from 10am- 3pm, and it's one of the better buffets around. Adults pay $30 and children pay $15 which is great for the variety and quality. The buffet is packed with food! They've got a great mix of appetizers like bbq ribs & fried shrimp,plus a wide range of authentic Mexican favorites: fajitas, carnitas pibil, menudo, pozole, ceviche, and all the sides like rice and beans. They offer a made to order service as well for omelettes, waffles, pancakes, and chilaquiles. Buffet items are rotated regularly. Non alcoholic drinks are included in the buffet. They have a great selection of freshly made aguas frescas too. You can do bottomless mimosas for $22 extra or order al a carte cocktails. The best part is their dessert bar with flan, tres leches, churros, arroz con leche, pan dulce, fresh fruit and a chocolate fountain. The space itself is beautiful, with a mix of modern Mexican artwork and traditional Talavera decor that gives it a modern, upscale feel. The staff is attentive, and I appreciated that the manager actively walks around checking in on guests. This is a great spot for a quality Mexican brunch buffet with tons of options. Well worth the price!
Went for a birthday and thought it was one of those expensive Mexican food for no reason! There was a reason... it was delicious Sunday brunch buffet was it Margarita pitcher was niceeee and yummy Buffet had tacos to ceviche and menudo The beef was tendor and flavorful Oh even has freshly made waffles or pancakes Kids had chicken tenders Options for everyone Dessert the flan yummers
It was my first time today! We went during lunch so it was semi busy. Jorge was our waiter and he was super happy and funny and made us feel welcomed. I ordered a chicken enchilada from the lunch special menu and it was delicious! A little bit of a big portion so I was able to save the other half for a later meal. Had to get the churros for dessert! I will say they were small and came on a plate of 6! As you can see here, they were completely devoured. Prices were not bad and it was clean and I heard it gets packed on the weekends!
Met the girls here for dinner and drinks on a Saturday night. This is definitely a family friendly restaurant. The place was crowded but the wait time was minimal. We were sat in a booth and offered drinks right away which we loved. The drinks were yummy and very pretty. As for the food, it was good. Basic Mexican with nothing that really stood out. I got the chicken flautas. Not too crispy, which was a little sad. The beans and rice were good. What helped this place out was the outstanding service!
Stopped by on Friday, 10/17/25 for the first time! Boyfriend and I ordered from the Happy Hour Menu (Monday - Friday from 3pm-6pm): - 4 carne asada tacos = $15 - 1 6-piece jumbo wings = $10 - 1 margarita de la casa = $9 - 1 16oz draft beer = $10 SUB TOTAL = $44 TAX = $4.62 OVERALL TOTAL = $48.62 The prices were great and affordable. I will say that the overall menu prices that are not part of the Happy Hour menu seems to be way over priced. We watched the Dodgers game and there wasn't a lot of people at the time.
Took my girlfriend here for a romantic date night. The ambiance inside the restaurant is so dim and beautiful. They had live music playing and the decor makes this restaurant so special. My burrito was really good and drowned in the amazing sauce and covered with melted cheese. Their drink options come in tiki cups that are also a very nice touch. We came on a busy night so the parking was a bit difficult to find. Parking down the street and just had to cross the intersection to get to the restaurant. Overall a great experience and will come back.
I generally prefer supporting non-chain restaurants, but Anaya's unfortunately fell short of expectations. The space is large and well-decorated, yet surprisingly quiet; even during Friday happy hour, seating was plentiful. While the drinks were decent for the price, the food definitely needs some refinement. I've often wondered why this spot wasn't more crowded when passing by--after finally stopping in, my curiosity is satisfied, but I don't think I'll be back.
I have dined at Anaya's Mexican Restaurant in Pasadena Playhouse district once before for a birthday celebration. I loved it so much that I recommended it to my work colleagues for a team lunch recently. We came here on a Wednesday afternoon. Prior to arrival, I easily made reservations for a party of 8 via online. I got a few reminders before our arrival which was great. Please note for a party of 10 or more, you'll have to call them to make reservations. Good ample inside space with solid dark wood tables, chairs, bar stool, and bench seating. Limited outside seating available. Interesting industrial-chic inspired decor. They also have a full bar area. They weren't super busy for lunch maybe 3 big parties of 8 or more with a few smaller parties of 3 or less. Unfortunately, they had only one lady server and one gentleman barista who also helped with table service. This didn't make sense to me. They should have at least 2 full-time servers. Anyway, despite of the slow service due to the very limited staff, the staff members were friendly and did the best they could. We got complimentary chips and green salsa... just one note, there was not enough of green sauce for the amount of chips given. As for drink, water for everyone. As for food, I ordered the Anaya's Fajitas with shrimp. You can get it with steak, shrimp, chicken, or a mix of all 3 at different prices. I was expecting it to come out on a sizzling platter instead it was just on a regular plate. Slightly disappointed. It had about 7 good size shrimps along with sauteed garlic, bell peppers, onions, tomato, and white wine served with rice, beans plus 2 tortillas. Flavors were just okay nothing exceptional. Btw, I needed at least 3-4 tortillas. And what happened to the guac, sour cream, and pico de gallo? For $27.95, it needed more bells and whistle (just an analogy). Probably will not get again. We also got two guacamole appetizers that came with lime juice, jalapenos, white onions, and cilantro. All was mixed right in front of us. I was so bummed that it didn't have any taste to it. It was the blandest guac I have ever eaten. I felt like we were eating plain avocado. Just not enough salt and lime juice. Our entire table had the same feedback. Very disappointed. We also got 2 orders of churros served with caramel and whipped cream. Since we had to return back to work, we asked them to pack them to-go. We had already finished eating. It took them literally another 15+ minutes to have it out to us. We extended our visit longer than we should have... not by choice of course. Btw, churros were very good. At the end of our meal, I was not a very happy camper especially when it was a restaurant that I recommended. The slow service, the long wait on food, the bland guac, and the non-sizzling fajitas platter + lack of condiments was NOT the dining experience I was hoping to have with my team. I'm only giving it 3 stars because of the hardworking staff on the floor. Thank you for all that you do. I can't say I will recommend Anaya's again in the future which is unfortunate. ANAYA's MEXICAN - REVIEW FOR JUNE 2025 Staying at the nearby AC Hotel, I was looking for a quick mexican restaurant nearby. Surprisingly, this restaurant is larger than expected and something i was looking for in Pasadena. *Food - Order = Beef flautas with beans and rice = 25$ with tax and tip - I would order again! A little pricey but substancial amount and considering location. It was packaged well, although make sure to ask for cutlery if you're staying at the hotel *Different than most mexican spots in Pasadena - - Aside from El Portugal nearby which is great for outdoor seating and the food isn't out of this world-- there isn't many big family seating mexican restaurants in pasadena; There are many hole in the walls along with taco trucks but not too many like Anaya's. *Other - outdoor seating right on colorado + large indoor seating - happy hour specials - parking? = since i walked.. can't comment and seems like it may be street parking on colorado only which may be hard I'll definitely check this place out for dine in! Heard the margaritas were worth trying pre a coworker! Shout out to Joanna for being extra kind on the phone and staff seems very friendly.
Love this place. Fell in love with the Diablo pasta. Creamy and spicy with shrimp or chicken. Great drinks. Had almost all of them.
Great service and food on Cinco de Mayo. Friend and I shared a hearty Oaxacan stew of Molcajete de carne (with shrimp add-on) The steak, chicken and spicy sausage all cooked perfectly. I thought the Molcajete I had in Santa Barbara (Los Agaves) was good, but Anayas' high-end version takes it up another level. We assembled the ingredients into various tacos (beef, shrimp, surf and turf, etc.) it was so fun to eat! Btw they make their tortillas fresh so new orders take a while to come out. We poured the leftover broth, rich in umami flavor, over the rice and it tasted A-mazing! $70 total damage but would definitely do it again. Happy Cinco de Mayo!

We stopped in for lunch today during our visit to the Pasadena Art Walk. We were given a flyer at the art walk and were told certain businesses had promotional coupons going on. Anaya's had one for a free agua Fresca or margarita "with the flyer or sticker" that was stated on the flyer. Our waitress told us we needed both the flyer and sticker. I further questioned this at the host table and was again told "yeah the manager wants people to have both sticker and flyer." I didn't see any stickers handed out at the Art Walk. Needless to say the service was also very slow and at one point a homeless man walked thru the patio yelling racial slurs. The food was REALLY good, one of the best Pozole I've had...maybe it was an off day or just poor communication on the drink coupon. read more

If you're looking for gourmet Mexican food with incredible drinks and flavors, this is the place to come. The staff was so kind and attentive throughout our meal and the food was some of the best Mexican food I've had in the area. My favorite by far was definitely the tortilla soup but if you love mole the enchiladas were great as well. read more

Mexican food was delicious! I enjoyed my Cadillac margaritas. Pasadena has soooo many restaurants. It was nice to eat at a Mexican restaurant. I was so full from the chips and salsa that I ate my fish taco and rice and beans the next day!!! I love it. Looking forward to going again. read more

Inviting ambience- I love the interior decoration, from the art displayed on the walls to the lighting fixtures and huge cushioned booths. The customer service is friendly and the food was delicious. I ordered the green chicken enchiladas with all Spanish rice paired with a classic margarita- yum. The food was prepared with skill and close attention, absolutely tasty. The pricing is higher compared to surrounding Mexican restaurants however the restaurant is located in Old Town Pasadena so that may be a contributing factor. I will definitely return for the Happy Hour and Sunday Brunch. read more

When you make a reservation 1 month in advance you would think you had nothing to worry about. Right...??? WRONG! Our party arrived on time for our 6:30 reservation and we were still outside waiting in the cold at 7:20 pm without an apology or concern that they were not honoring our reservation. They kept telling us 30 more minutes at least 3 times! That's when we took a head count to go elsewhere which saved the night. I personally would never go here after this experience. When I go out it is for good service and good food. *Don't bother to make a reservation here. They Do Not honor them!!!! read more

I love reviewing and posting the truth about the restaurant that I go to . Let me tell you exactly what I think about this amazing beautiful place. I can say it's a very busy street they have a big parking at the back with no extra cost . Brunch on Sunday is the best very authentic Mexican ,from the menudo, posole chile Relleno, mole , chilaquiles verdes deliciosos. A must is the bottomless mimosas . Jusus is one of most amazing waiter . If I can could give them a 10 stars I would have . Over all highly recommend. read more
TLDR: Very unfortunate experience here on Cinco de Mayo. They did not honor our reservation - even though I had made reservations in advance A MONTH AHEAD OF TIME on April 7th - I double checked my confirmation. Staff were nice and I understand it's a busy holiday but what ended up happening is they double booked it seemed like. Which left us in quite a pinch with such a large party - trying to find somewhere to eat after waiting almost an hour! I did my best to be prepared with our huge group - called a whole month ahead to secure a table - easy process. Received confirmation via text. I also called and spoke to them several times over the course of the month to update our final group number - even spoke to them around 430pm day of and they confirmed that our reservation was good to go. Our reservation was for 630pm. I arrived at 6pm just to make sure all would go smoothly since we had such a large party. Was told at 6pm that our table wouldn't be ready until our time of 630pm which is understandable. I asked again at 635pm - table still wouldn't be ready for another 10 minutes. Asked again at 645pm - table wouldn't be ready - they said they were "just waiting for the other large party to leave" bc that's where we would be sitting. Asked again at 7pm - still not ready. When I asked how much longer, they said at least 30 minutes or more bc they're waiting for the other large party to "finish up and leave". They showed us the table and that other party HAD NOT EVEN ORDERED THEIR FOOD YET??!! It looked like they had just been sat - still had all their menus and no food. Finally around 710pm I checked one last time and still no table and the other party they were waiting on to "finish up and leave" still hadn't even ordered their food lol. So at the last minute we had to scramble to find somewhere that could take such a large party on a busy holiday. Gross mismanagement- I could understand if we had just shown up and had not been actively preparing for this a whole month in advance - they really should've just been honest with us instead of having us waiting around for an hour with no end in sight. read more

Where to start. We arrived at 10 am. Stood by the door a few minutes while they decided to sit us. Waitress did not seem happy to see customers. They had a buffet going on so we stayed. Got a mimosa and an agua the agua was really good. A few reasons I will point out, being why they got a 1 start from me. Service is horrible, young lady does not want to be here. Good is below average. We didn't have drinks for a while young lady was polishing silverware eight infringed of us and could not turn around to see we did not have drinks. Lastly price is over prices . We paid $100.20 for 2 of us. Not many options for food. Very basic. We have the girl $105.00 and she asked if we needed change . We said yes because I was not going to leave her a tip. She took it came back and asked again if we wanted to break the $5. Again I said yes. Rolled her eyes and I've had enough so we left. Coming from a service industry back ground for years I can say she should not be a waitress. Tho is not the first time she waits on us and it's not good. I don't think I'll be coming back. Service is very important and she made the entire expensive even worst. read more

My friends and I had just arrived in Pasadena and Anayas was fortunately open late (to 11pm) and we were in the mood for Mexican food. Street parking at that time was actually rather easy to find and we were happy to see there was outdoor seating. The indoor part also has great decor and promotes a nice ambiance. For our drinks, we selected guava martinis all around and those were amazingly delicious. For food, we ordered 2 full orders of shrimp ceviche and a fish supreme taco plate. As a ceviche-lover, I will say it was decent but probably not the best I've ever tasted. The taco plate came with a big portion of rice and beans and 3 tacos which were a little bland for me but otherwise fine. read more

Not a bad place for dinner and drinks. Stopped by for a friends bday dinner mid week. Plenty of seating, also they had a live band. Drinks was good, the margaritas that we had. Both the blended and on the rocks. Menu had quite a lot of amazing dishes to offer. Started off with a couple of appetizers. The mixed platter and the queso with half of mushrooms and chorizo. Platter did have a lot of choices to try and quite good. The queso was just ok. Had better at other places. Main, a different choices of items we all had. The fajitas doesn't come out on the sizzling platter which kind of sucks but it was ok. The wet burrito was pretty big, enchiladas and pork dish all was good. The sauce which was used was quite tasty. Overall, it was good. Nice place for drinks and meal. read more

The food once again never disappoints us. I had the Carnitas de Lechon a la Pibil and it was recommended by our waiter Beli. Let me tell you the meat was so tender you didn't need a fork to cut into it. The carnitas has so much flavor and was absolutely amazing. My husband had the El Me I and stray burrito and it looks as good in the picture. Stray was very tender and the sauce was very flavorful as well. Our waiter Beli really went out of his way to recommend and explained the flavors of the food on the menu. Very impressive I must say. We also had the house margaritas. Can I say how delicious they are... they make their own margarita mix and you can rate it. I get mine on the rocks holding the salt and. My husband has the same with the salted rum. He lived is drink as well. All said and done it's worth splurging here. The food is among and so was the hospitality. This is why they are 5 stars read more

Decided to come try Anayas with a few friends after a class and it was the best decision! We were sat promptly and taken care of by David! He was warm and professional while taking care of our large group ! He offered us the happy hour menu and we started off with a few items. We also ordered a pitcher of margarita! It was plentiful and served 5-6 . It was well balanced and delicious ! I had the chicken quesadilla that was so good and full of protein. I had to try the Mexican rice .. my gosh it was my favorite ! All of my friends were happy with their meals as well I wish I could have taken a bite out of everyone's ! But we will def be back ! Thank you Anayas ! read more

I really love the consistent quality of food and service. I came for happy hour and the mango margarita was so yummy. It didn't have an overwhelming alcohol taste and it was the perfect balance of sweet. The appetizers are all a treat. I haven't tried them all but the ones I have tried deserve a round of applause. The plantains were my favorite because they were actually ripe! The flautas were bursting with flavor I was pleasantly surprised. I had low expectations for popcorn shrimp but it was bomb! This is an awesome spot to celebrate or have a quality dining experience with others. read more

Place overall looked nice. It reminded me of the Mexican restaurant in better call Saul. Service was friendly and I really wish I could give them a glowing review but the food wasn't good and for 100 dollar lunch for 2, expectations are high. The Mrs had a greasy taco meal. I had a shrimp burrito. A glass of wine, a coke and chips with guacamole. Shrimp burrito was rather bland. Pretty sure they used frozen shrimp and even with that, they went cheap and bought the smallest shrimps. Overall the service was nice but the food is lacking. read more
I've been wanting to try this place out for a while and was extremely disappointed when I did. This might be the worst Mexican food I have ever had. Everything was absolutely flavorless besides the overwhelming old oil taste of the taco shells. I literally could not take more than one bite of the taco shell. It made me feel sick to my stomach. Stopped in for some lunch after a day of shopping at a vintage event in Glendale. We were greeted by a very nice hostess and immediately sat, which was nice. The restaurant decor was nice, I loved the paintings on the wall and numerous TVs which made it easy to watch the NFL playoffs. We ordered the cheese enchiladas and chicken taquitos. Both were good, the downfall was the rice which was overcooked and slightly mushy. The beans were bland and didn't taste fresh. The drinks were recommended by our server, both were enjoyed, I would definitely come back for drinks. For dessert we chose the lava cake. The star of this dish was definitely the ice cream. The lava cake wasn't bad, we've just had better. The service was good, our server did a great job answering our questions about the menu and offering suggestions for the drinks. read more
Came in on a Saturday morning for brunch. Everything was DELICIOUS though a tad overpriced. We enjoyed guacamole, chicken fajitas salad and bacon, eggs & potatoes with one margarita. Stopped by for lunch on a recent business trip. Prompt service and a great wait staff, five stars. My barbacoa burrito was just okay but not great and at $20 bucks for a tortilla filled mostly with rice and fatty meat, accompanied with more rice (very bland) and just average red beans. This was nothing like what I was expecting by the four and five star reviews. My buddies asada burrito they messed up in the kitchen, they fixed it promptly, but. The others, one ordered quesadillas and the other taquitos and nothing special. Chips good not great, guacamole very fresh and good, the pico de gallo was okay, but a bit heavy handed on the diced onions for my liking, very onion heavy. Again it was an okay meal but not the amounts spent. Four entrees with NO alcohol and two of us only having water, the bill north of one hundred bucks. Seems excessive? I've had burritos twice as good for half the price. "Big Portions" does not warranty great food, the lunch portions way over the top and excessive. The prices as well. Service was great, had a bad start with no utensils or napkins but was good towards the end. Food was delicious, had the Barbacoa plate and man it had great flavor. My little plus one had the carne asada plate which was like eh, Enchiladas were pretty good. Been here before and ordered the chicken mole pobalana which was on the dry side but will try it out again another time. Ambiance was pretty cool, none of that Kalaveras loud noise. Delicious food and great staff. Everything we ordered was so good. This was the perfect place to bring my family and share dishes. The amount was generous and i highly recommend ordering the guacamole. They mix it in front of you so it's fresh. Our server was amazing and so attentive. What is the average cost?
My meal was $18.50. I thought the portion was perfect. Food was hot and fresh. Average cost for a meal, I'd say you'll pay between $15-$20 for a normal meal. Seafood and steak would probably be more.
