I got the BIKINI BOTTOM LATTE - Pineapple Co-Fermentation espresso, vanilla syrup, cinnamon, milk, whiskey cold foam I've never had a latte like this before and it was so delicious and I can't wait to go back and visit and try their other drinks. I LOVE this place! My husband and I brought our 10 year old daughter in with us to check it out and we got so much more than we expected! The owner, Donovan (sp?), is so personable and just overflowing with kindness & vivacity! I'm honestly so basic when it comes to coffee. I really don't like anything too sweet (like SOME nasty big-chain places we all know *cough* Starbucks *cough*). I really just get iced vanilla lattes wherever I go. That being said, Donovan recommended the Bikini Bottom latte, which I already had my eye on, so I chose that! My daughter ordered a strawberry lemonade, and I also got a lemon blueberry muffin and a chocolate chip cookie. Listen.... Everything we got was AMAHZING No exaggeration. The strawberry lemonade was OUT OF THIS WORLD! So fresh and delicious, and in this nasty summer heat it was just what she needed! My coffee was honestly weirdly indescribable. I loved it so much! It was very unique and absolutely fantastic! My hubby is not a coffee drinker and even he tried to snag a second swig but I had already finished it! Obviously the muffin and cookie were horrible! Anchor and Tree has been one of my go-to coffee shops when I need a pick-me-up or a place to get a bit of remote work done. The space is welcoming and cozy and they have a variety of seating including a couch, window seats, small tables, and a larger table. The staff here is always friendly, and you'll often run into the owner, Donovan, you can tell he has a lot of regulars because everyone is excited to say "hi" and strike up a conversation with Donovan. Even when Donovan isn't there the team is always so friendly. They have a really cool variety of coffee available including special fermentation flavors that are available in drinks as well as beans for sale. All of them have such fun, unique and delicious flavors. You'll definitely want to explore the menu and this is a rare spot where I order something different each time I visit, instead of settling into a regular order. They also have art on display that's for sale as well as other items for sale from local businesses as well as to help with all your coffee consumption needs. I love browsing the options for sale and I usually pick up a new bag of coffee beans each time I visit. On top of having delicious coffee, supporting other local businesses, and providing a comfortable and welcoming environment, they also are eco-friendly and utilize an emissions free, electric roasting process and they use special take-out cups that are also more eco friendly. I'm so glad I got to try a cool LGBTQ+ eco-friendly coffee shop that was quite popular for a Thursday! My friends and I came to try this place that was on our coffee crawl and we came on a Thursday when they are open latest. They had an open mic night for singers and musicians to showcase their songs and I thought that was so cool. The worker was very nice and I ordered the lychee tea lemonade. My drink was very delicious, refreshing, and perfect for a summer day. The drink came in a recyclable and compostable drink container that I had never seen before but appreciated them using. One of my all time favorite coffee shops. So many unique roasts and the pour overs here are just something else. I was in town for work and had to come back to keep trying more. These aren't your average roasts. They put the beans through different processes like co-fermentation and the flavors are really unlike anything you'd get at a normal coffee shop. If you're from the South Bay and like the pour overs at Moonwake, this will be right up your alley. I tried the Apricot Jam Co-Fermentation, Picnic Day Co-Fermentation, and Orange Bourbon and they were all so distinct. The Orange Bourbon one was almost buttery and the other two were perfect as well. Service was exceptional and everyone was so friendly. The vibes inside were nice too. I love the coffee cups they use, the spout is so nice to drink from. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're tired of your normal pour overs. The coffee is totally worth 8+ a cup and I'll 100% be back next time I'm in town! read more

Workers were super helpful and helped me choose the specifics of my drink (i.e. hojicha vs sweet green matcha). I thought it was super cool how they serve their drinks in paper cups that get folded over to make a hole to drink from. For the most part, this spot is absolutely awesome to grab a quick bite or coffee. There's plenty of sitting to do your work and that just enough Wi-Fi to go around for anyone who's a busy bee in the morning. My friend tried their croissants, which she thought were very tasty. I tried their ham and cheese croissant, and I just wasn't a fan of the ham taste it had, but overall their coffee is pretty good. They also have these biodegradable cups that they use which is so awesome, and I wished to have more places to did this. Anchor and tree is a hidden gem among coffee places in Sacramento. Most people stop by the heavier hitters (that I also quite enjoy) but I can't recommend coming here enough! First off they do a unique roast using an electric roaster vs traditional gas roasters. This proccess still produces delicious beans but is more carbon efficient. Not only is it delicious but it's better for the planet! The staff is all amazingly friendly and helpful. We did a coffee roasting class and it was so enjoyable and worth it If you can do it! If you're more the type to make coffee at home I also recommend grabbing their beans! It's my go to bean for espresso! If you see this coffee place while downtown you have to drop in. This place was one of my favorites on a tour of about a dozen cafes in the Sacramento area recently. As others have mentioned, they roast their own here, and very importantly to me, can do any of them on hand as espresso. My personal bar of awesomeness for coffee places usually starts with "What espresso options do you have?" Recently, I've had some blank stares when I ask that, and even one that said "Well, we can do Americano, latte...". The answer I'm looking for is "We have [these two, or three or more] options, depending on what you like", then launching into country of origin or processing. Anchor and Tree definitely passes this "test". On my visit, I had a shop roasted Ethiopian that had bright acidity (almost too much), but was very pleasant, selected after a nice chat with the barista. We also talked about the two Bellwether roasters they had right there on the cafe floor, and geeked out a bit over their Bentwood grinder. The decor in the cafe is really cool as well, featuring a number of coffee-related art pieces for sale, and just, overall, a really cool vibe. Definitely worth a visit. read more

Ah, I can remember the smell when I stepped through the door. The smell of roasted beans being churned away in the back was an unforgettable moment. The machines that were grinding or roasting the beans were so high-tech looking and you can especially see beans bouncing around like a washing machine lol. It was an experience to see this in person for sure. Anyhow, besides that, I grabbed a pumpkin spiced matcha latte from their fall menu. Beeeest matcha I've ever had. It was perfectly balanced, not too sweet, slightly pumpkiny, and amazing! The matcha wasn't very pronounced, but the other flavors complemented the matcha very well. 10/10. I still dream about it every night. Their to-go cups aren't very desirable because they're compostable and kind of fragile. If you get a hot drink, it kind of starts disintegrating and can't keep its composure too well. So I'd highly recommend getting the drinks inside to drink and experience some live action coffee bean roasting and grinding! Super friendly staff, and it was quite spacious inside. Popped in here on a rainy day on a whim for something warm. They are a coffee collective, so if you are a coffee nerd this is definitely a place that needs to be on your list. They have a program where you can go in and roast your own beans (amazing)! I love how they support many small businesses (and is LGBTQ owner). I got the orange Creamsicle Matcha, and this was excellent. Perfect amount of sweetness. I love a flavored cold foam. They did make my drink wrong but i got to try a second drink so im ok with it. My favorites at the moment are the Brazil and Peru varieties. The owner and staff are among the best - they're helpful and make great coffee drinks. The menu offerings are always interesting and adventurous. The interior is warm and inviting: lots of space, a roasting machine, a siphon coffee machine, and fun merchandise for sale. Came here to study one day, the ambiance was chill, pretty good music, plenty of seating. Not very many people were studying here this day though. (Tuesday morning) I ordered the double matcha, it came in a fully compostable cup which is nice, but it does give you that paper straw feeling, and gets mushy quite fast! The matcha itself was meidocore, nothing special, honestly. The bathroom was very clean! A little odd to have a picture of a man staring at you, but at least he was handsome? I will say that one thing that was quite off-putting. I came in maybe about 30 minutes after opening and studied for 5-6 hours. Another group came in, and they were here for about an hour, but then a couple of girls came in and were treated with great hospitality- asked if they needed wifi, were told where the outlets were...etc. I wish the treatment was the same for all customers! :/ Overall, I would probably come back to study because of the seating and music alone, but probably will not be getting matcha from here anytime soon. read more

The coffee is beautifully roasted with a nutty depth and just the right amount of flavor depending on what you order. You can immediately tell they don't rely on excessive sweetness to mask mediocre beans, the quality of the coffee stands on its own. I ordered the hot masala chai with espresso and an iced pistachio latte, and both were outstanding. Balanced, flavorful, and thoughtfully crafted, nothing overpowering, just really good coffee done right. What made this stop unforgettable, though, was the service. Lexi was an absolute gem. Her patience, kindness, and genuine customer care were top-notch. She answered all of my questions thoughtfully and was warm and conversational while making the drinks, which really shows her skill and confidence. In my never ending quest to find a good coffee shop near my place of employment, I think I may have finally found one in Anchor and Tree. They roast coffee on site and have some of the friendliest staff I've encountered. I absolutely love the ambiance here. I can definitely see myself chilling here reading a book while sipping on coffee even during the weekends when I don't come during my in office days. They have quite a few tables inside for you to enjoy your coffee as well as a couch near the back of the shop. I love how they got amount of coffee drink varieties to choose from on their menu as well as a small selection of pastries. The chocolate chip cookie is damn good btw! Great service right off the bat. Best setup, with an onsite automated coffee bean roasting machine, various beans for grinding, and plenty of seating. We got a hot vanilla latte with Oatmilk. I've been meaning to try Anchor & Tree ever since I saw they had a storefront! (Before they had a brick and mortar, I had the opportunity to try some of their whole beans from a Yelp event and really enjoyed the coffee.) Like all downtown businesses, I don't love finding parking, but it wasn't too hard to find nearby street parking. The interior is clean & nicely decorated, featuring local art for sale. I came in couple times during their reopening week (January 1-7, 2025). The first time I tried a latte. I also bought some beans as a gift. When I was looking at their menu again later that day, I questioned why I didn't try any of their signature drinks - they sounded so good! So being addicted to coffee, I had to get back ASAP. This time I tried the Dirty Rose Chai Latte and the Passionfruit Honey Americano. (They have oat milk at no-up charge.) Great drinks, but even better service. The service is genuinely welcoming and friendly. They are very good about making what they stand for known (zero-emissions, LGBTQ & locally owned). I've been to Anchor and Tree a few times in the past through events and when Burnside Coffee was here. I think I find myself coming in more frequently than before because of the ambience and the chill vibes. It doesn't feel rushed, packed (or at least when I come) and I feel I can relax to enjoy my morning. They roast in house and love that they are environmentally friendly. Absolutely love all their coffee beans and their latest drink creations. I've had both the iced & hot version of the peach whiskey latte. And I gotta say, I think I like the iced version better. This cafe is cozy and cute! Once I placed an order, I was entering my phone number for the loyalty program. The owner, Donovan, was there and noticed and asked if it was my first time. Upon confirmation, he basically gave me a tour of the place which was so nice and unexpected. He told me a bit about the beans of the mocha I ordered (the mint is infused with the beans during a fermentation process - and not as a syrup) and showed me where I could purchase them whole to take home. I am from out of town. San Diego to be exact but I was in the area spending the day in Sacramento. I wanted to find a unique coffee experience that I couldn't find back at home. After some searching I came across Anchor and they did not disappoint. Coffee infused lemonades? Who would have thought? The two Barista's on staff were kind and inviting. They were beyond helpful, allowing me to smell some of the co-fermentations and just giving a great hospitable vibe. When there are two many good options on a menu to choose from I like to ask for recommendations and I was guided to try either the Watermelon Whiskey Smash lemonade or their Strawberry Shortcake Latte. I couldn't decide so I got both. One for here and the other To-Go. Both drinks were so different but equally delicious. Not too sweet and deliciously balanced.
