Being from upstate NY i'm a wing snob and very critical. I've eaten in the orignal Anchor Bar, is this a cheap francise or close to the original? We dined on the outside patio - very good in the covid environment, excellent service and a focus on following safe guidelines. The wings? A solid B+, very meaty and decent sauces, cooked well. The beef on weck was a bit underwhealming, fairly good but not too close to authentic. I'll be back if in the area, but not worth a long trip to get here. 4/5 is a bit generous, but mostly deserved. read more

My wife and I have been to Anchor Bar on 3 or 4 occasions. We both enjoy the food and atmosphere but the service is lacking. On only one occasion did we have wait staff that were on their game. On the other occasions our wait staff disappeared on us. It takes a while before you get your food but the burgers, fries, and wings are really good. read more

Today was our fourth and final time going to Anchor Bar. The food is good, but only when they get the order right. There are two of us and they have screwed up one of our orders every time. This time was my husband's turn. The hot dogs smothered in cheese, chili and onions arrived bun and dogs, nothing else. It took ten minutes after we asked for the server to bring chili out to him so he could at least put it on his meal. His food was cold by the time she returned. He asked for mustard from the girl who brought the food. She told him she'd "tell our server" which she did not do. We never saw a manager on the floor and I don't believe we ever have. Being from Buffalo, NY I was really looking forward to anchor bar. I am not happy to report I feel a tad disappointed. You only get 4 fingers with you chicken tenders meal when Buffalo meals traditionally give you 5. The fries were a bit soggy and possibly undercooked. My friends did get the wings and they were big and meaty. They raved about the sauce. The homemade pizza logs were good. The decor was sports related with local and Buffalo sports represented. Our waitress Victoria was super though! Very friendly and helpful. Be wary if you order a Margarita with patron. The base marg is $10 and the patron upsell is $6....that is a bit steep in my opinion... And I don't know there was even a full shot to be honest. read more

Went to get a bite after work. 14.00 for a roast beef sandwich and fries that tastes like something you could get at Arby's for half of the price. The girl who was at the bar was a completely oblivious ditz. A couple of guys who were obviously her friends were being drunk, loud assholes who I'm pretty sure harassed one of the other servers to the point of throwing up in the bathroom and generally annoying everyone else. So I'm ready to pay for my beer and and meal. The server literally disappears and I almost walked out without paying accidentally. Completely unprofessional. If you want some decent american pub grub and beer, do yourself a favor and go to Wags on Market Street. Been here twice, and won't go back. Too many times they over serve patrons and have no grasp of responsibility. First time, a tall lady had a full conversation with a group, while we stared at her. Guess if we aren't regulars then we aren't so important. The bartenders keep saying they are from the previous business. Well it must be cursed they are still here. I finally had it when one patron vomited on the bar. And an older girl immediately jumped to action, while asking the other black haired girl for help. She rather talk to the boys on the other end. The older girl got the man OUT of his truck and back inside. Other customers were begging for a manager. It's against the law to over serve a patron and bartenders should be held accountable. It turns out the older girl was training and yet she knew how to handle it, giving the man juice and water and trying to get him to stay. I don't think she served him his drink before. The black haired bartender said "he's a grown man" as they seemed to be acquaintances? My husband will be calling any corporate office and complaining about the incident for sure! Came here with my family of 6 for the first time. The waitress was nice- she was fine as well as service and friendliness. Haddock was meh, and they put the slab over the fries so the got all soggy. What a mess. Asked for sides of BBQ and a hotter wing sauce and the BBQ was more like a teriyaki overly sweet hoisin sauce and the hot sauce was also a sweet hot gelatinous sauce that was also just bad. First and last time we will visit. Also, atmosphere was way too loud and echoing badly. One of the worst we've been to in town. Great spot. Been hearing about from friends who lived near the original. We went early on a Saturday evening before the crowd. We were seated right away and our waitress cane to introduce her self and get drink orders quickly while we looked at menu. I had a side Caesar salad and small order of wings with medium sauce Buffalo style of course. They do have a nice selection of sauces and dry rubs. My friend had a spinach salad with grilled chicken. Food came quickly and just aa order. Side salad was a good size and very tasty. Wings had a little kick as expected. Will try hot in future and a dry rub at some points. Wings were a good size and cooked perfectly. The spinach salad was perfect size to.be an entree with out being too big. Nice mix of ingredients and came with a balsamic vinegrette. What a disappointment. As someone from the Buffalo area who lives in Maryland now I was truly excited when I heard they opened an Anchor Bar here. We drove the hour from Baltimore to get a taste of home and were extremely let down. It's embarrassing the quality of food difference between this location and the Buffalo locations, there is clearly a step down in this franchise location. The wings were rubbery - have never had this issue in Buffalo. They were as gross as most Maryland wings are, needed at least 3 or 4 more mins in the fryer. The Beef on Weck was stringy and fatty- no where near the same quality melt in your mouth beef that you get in Buffalo. Only thing that was ok was the weck roll. The pizza logs were.....I don't know, the ones in Buffalo come from a company called Finger Foods and are crispy and light enough. The ones at this location were massive pieces of dough with not enough filling. Have no idea where they got these but, I would call Finger Foods and get them as a supplier. Only star is for having Labatt Blue Light on tap which is non existent south of the Mason Dixon. My recommendation would be for this franchise owner to call HQ in Buffalo and realign, unfortunate as there are a lot of upstate Ny folks down here who would make the trek read more

Since I can't get back to Buffalo as often as I'd like, it's nice to have a little slice of home here in Maryland. When my hubby and I are craving wings, this is our go-to place. Met with some colleagues here who had been there 30 minutes prior to my arrival. They still had not been served. Waited another 30 minutes until their lunch break was over and eventually requested to-go boxes. This took our waitress another 10-15 minutes to bring out and at least another 10 to get the checks following that. Needless to say, they were returning to work late. I understand restaurants get busy, this was not the case. There was probably 30 open tables. It was just before noon, and I can assure you there was no lunch rush. The 4 colleagues left, unhappy. My friend and I, who arrived late, waited impatiently as my order was brought in the to-go bags and his did not. After 10 minutes he told me to eat so it didn't get cold. I did, and after that 10 minutes he tracked down the waitress to find out what the hold up was. She advised that they would be right out and it's taking so long because they are "jumbo size" wings. I do not know if she has ever seen jumbo or if she was out right lying because she didn't put the order in, these are regular size, subpar, rubbery wings. I finish, he eats one of his wings and leaves the rest. Did I also mention they forgot my drink? I had to tell her twice about that as well, and then they brought out the wrong kind. Good beer selection; that is the only good thing. The food is awful. The wings are overcooked with barely any sauce. We could barely chew the wings they were so tough. However. For the price they are small. And only orders of 10, 20...I like sets of 5 myself. Sauce is good. 2. We ordered a buffalo chicken pizza. It should be called a blue cheese pizza. Bleh! Came here recently with coworkers for a happy hour and we decided to sit outside. They have a nice outdoor sitting area and when it's nice they serve drinks from the bar that extends outside. I started with the Pina Colada and then got the 10 piece boneless wings with fries. The Pina Colada was good and the wings were probably enough for two people. We tried this place purely because I saw an article in the newspaper a few weeks ago and really liked the story. We are never in the heart of Frederick but decided to venture out. My husband and I split the 20 piece wings. We were able to split the sauce evenly which was awesome but were even offered ranch and blue cheese. The staff was beyond friendly, quick and attentive. The two tables next to us were both regulars that the waitress recognized and accommodated. The food was out extremely quick which was also nice! I also referred to Yelp reviews and decided on "spicy" garlic parmesan wings, but they were not spicy at all but good flavor. I much rather my husbands honey ones. We've been twice so far and no complaints yet. We ordered wings both times (obviously) and the second time they were better than the first- so much crispier. Today my husband and I each ordered a salad. I had the spinach salad and he ordered the wedge. I really enjoyed my salad, it was very simple, but tasty. I do think it's was a little over priced for not having any significant amount of meat on it. The waitresses we've had have been very friendly. The service is a little on the slow side, but we've never been in a rush so haven't minded. I can't wait until football season to go and watch Bills games with other Buffalo fans! read more

Expectations could have been a little high but our experience was questionable. I'll start off with the service. Once seated in the bar area, our server did not show for 5-10 minutes. After we ordered, we did not see the server till after our food came 30 min later. We ordered wings and thinking that this place is known for their wings you'd think awesomeness. The best part about the wings was the sauce. The size of the wings was inconsistent and dry( see photos). For about $1.20 per wing, I'd expect better. I also got a side salad which was over priced as well. Their blue cheese dressing is different and their ranch dressing reminded us of taziki sauce. Stopped by for lunch today. Been wanting to go check it out since it has opened. I mean come on man....the original in Buffalo invented one of my favorite foods! How can a person go wrong with getting wings here! Well......this place figured out how to destroy a mans dreams. Got the wings and told our waitress I wanted the original wings that they invented. She said "you got it"! The wife got the Old Bay wings. I got the hot buffalo wings. Hers were not bad. Mine? Rubbery and weak in flavor. And when I say rubbery I mean RUBBERY! Down right nasty. We also got some French fries. They seemed hand cut but were wayyy undercooked. The celery and blue cheese were about the best things on the table. If I could give a 0 star review I would! Came for breakfast thinking will give it a shot since they advertised breakfast. We were the only ones there, but waited 45 minutes for them to bring out the food!! Explanation we got was that they had a pretty large takeout order that they were working on simultaneously. We sat down around 1:50 on a Sunday afternoon, and ordered a double order of hot bone-in wings. We also ordered an order of French fries, and also a side salad. 45 minutes went by, and we did not receive food. Finally it arrived, with 2 small cups of blue cheese, and not very many pieces of celery. I ate a couple of fries, and noticed there was a small hair. I flagged down a waitress, (not even ours) and requested if I could possibly have a new one. Nobody came and took them away, until our waitress finally came over 10 minutes AFTER we had all of our food. NO manager came out, and the discount we received was a "15 % military discount." Very bad decision by the manager. The wings varied in size, some gigantic, and some burnt to a crisp they were so small. My husband and I went here for a late lunch. I will start out by saying, the service was great, the tables are spread out, everyone was wearing masks and the establishment was clean. Now on to the food. My husband had been wanting to try their wings since he heard they were some of the best in Frederick. We got 20 wings, half mild and half Parmesan Garlic. The wings were meh. They were kind of soggy and the sauces were ok. We were disappointed. We also got a side salad, which their side salads were decent portion, very fresh looking and the ranch dressing was yummy.
