I am a loyal regular of the anchor bar for years. The reason is very simple. The two best bartenders in the dc metro area work at anchor bar. Tonya and leah are amazing. I was never a regular at a bar before i met tonya and leah. They are not only great bartenders but so kind and friendly. They treat everyone with dignity and respect. They are always busy when i go on wednesday and thursdays. However they work so well together they are unflappable. They are also very engaging and funny. Lately however the anchor bar has started staggering these two ladies hours. We are used to seeing them both together. Now you see one solo until either leah or tonya come in later. It baffles me how they can do this. Everyone i talked to at the anchor bar go for two reasons leah and tonya. The food was pretty good. We were excited to try this out as it's claim to fame was the founder of the original buffalo wing. We got the medium and hot varieties and some of the orange slush margaritas. The margaritas were awesome for cooking down on the (now) covered patio. The wings were pretty good. The "original" (their medium hot) wing tasted like a bit saltier version of hooters wings. The hot was better in my opinion. The downside was the service left a bit lacking. There was another group on the patio of loud and mostly drunk guys which the server was more interested in hanging out with. It did seem that they were minimally manned, probably because of Covid, though. Better service and this would have gotten probably 4 stars. read more

Stopped by this location on our way back from Niagara Falls. We considered going to the original location in Buffalo but settled with Frederick. Big mistake; we ordered wings which didn't have much sauce or crispiness. We also ordered fried pickles (they were ok) and shrimp which was so-so. Service was almost non-existent; the server didn't refill our water and didn't bring the Orange Crush which was ordered. While I might go to the Buffalo location some day (I went there 30 years ago and it was great), I will never go back to Frederick's. read more

I thought this was going to be just another wing place but I do have to say the buffalo wings were amazing. I love that you can pay an upcharge to get all flats or all drumsticks. And you can also pay an upcharge to finish them off on the grill. It was definitely worth the upcharge. read more

Stopped in last week for a late lunch. I chose to sit at a high-top table within the bar area. Ordered their "most popular sandwich combo" which included sliced roast beef sandwich with au jus, fries and several wings. Everything was better than expected! We showed up at 9:00, they were already starting to close despite their website saying they closed at 11:00p. Also we were told that "last call" was 9:45, when we arrived at 9p. The bartenders were already putting away all of the bottles, etc., as we arrived and so we got a lot of dirty looks upon arrival (2 hours before they close). 30 minutes into our dinner (wings and poutine at the bar... we are not high class) one of the employees walked by us and loudly exclaimed "I don't get paid enough for this sh!t" This place really sucks. I've never been to the original, but I was told Anchor Bar has the best buffalo wings in the world, so off to Frederick we went! We ordered the bucket of 50 wings, and the medium was perfect for me. The sauce was so tasty, and the wings were fresh and hot. Really good. We also ordered the pizza logs, but I think they need to be a little thinner (sort of like a spring roll). These were huge, (I suppose taking the word "log" literally), and they were too doughy with not enough filling. The logs could improve, but overall, the wings were great, the atmosphere was really nice, and their service was on point. I think they're only going to get better, and the multitude of TVs and the nice bar(s) point to very successful future sports seasons. Wings were fine, but the box that the "bucket" of wings they serve you in has holes on the bottom that they don't line properly. Got wing sauce all over my car seat. I called to complain, making sure to keep things cordial, and kept being told that the general manager would call me, but they never reached out. After making several attempts to speak to the manager, they finally had one of their employees tell me that they were not going to pay for my car, like that was what I was asking for, and refused to speak with me. Aww come on, yea Anchor Bar created the original buffalo wings, but every bar and restaurant makes wings nowadays. Willing to admit I was wrong - these wings are different. I ordered the buffalo shrimp, buffalo wings, and spicy garlic parmesan. The garlic parmesan wings had a nice kick and good flavor, but you go to the movie theater for popcorn and you go to Anchor Bar for buffalo wings. I had the hot buffalo wings and they had really good flavor. I wouldn't be afraid of ordering hot as they were more flavorful than hot/harsh. A nice twist ordering Anchor's wings is that for a small charge you can choose all "flats" or all :drums." Also for another small charge you can order the wings fried and then grilled for finish. Anchor is in the old Tilted Kilt location. Difference is they are crowded and it is a bit loud. Service is very good. What makes the Anchor wings flavor different in my opinion - very buttery taste. read more

I would give the Anchor Bar of Frederick a 5 star rating because the atmosphere, food, employees and occasional live music is out of this world and always makes for an enjoyable night out on the town! But my one star mark down is due to the fact that now when I frequent the bar on most week days I barely see the man, the myth, the legend...GEORGE. Or as my friends and I refer to him George of the Jungle. I'm writing this review not only to encourage other patrons to dine at Anchor Bar but also so that management can see this and get George back on the bar side way more frequently. We were so excited when we found out our favorite wing place from Buffalo NY was coming to Frederick! We went for lunch on a Friday, the first week they were open. There was a good size crowd there but we were seated right away. Our server greeted us and got us our drink very quickly. We ordered a loaded cheese fries appetizer and it came out super fast! My whole family agreed, they were delicious! Between the 5 of us we ordered a Buffalo Mac n Cheese, kids mac n cheese, a side of fries and 30 wings. The mild sauce has a tiny little bite to it, it's probably my favorite mild sauce. The honey bourbon bbq was good, and the spicy bbq was just the right spice! We also had some spicy garlic parmesan wings which were pretty hot! The atmosphere is fun, staff and servers are excellent and the food is delicious. ZERO STARS...This restaurant is an utter failure with regard to service. Me and my family went to the establishment at 5 PM on Saturday, March 23, 2024. Four of us were sat at a table with one utensil set; telling us they had no other silverware to offer us at the time of sitting; nor could offer us even a menu. After sitting for more than 15 minutes, we were forced to leave because we were not being acknowledged by the staff. During our wait, waiting for a staff member to ask for our order, we could see staff discussing billing with other tables; one gentleman claimed that he never paid his bill, and the waitress could not find, locate or acknowledge that he had a bill to be paid. Go here at your own risk; as this restaurant is not worth your time or money spent; never less the resources they have failed to put in place to ensure a positive experience. The staffing model seemed to have one waiter for the entire place, inside and out. He was unfortunately untrained. No silverware on the table, forgetting items requested etc. The cleanliness was really questionable. You know when you put your arms on the table and they have to be peeled off? Well that would be a step up from this. There was a roll of community paper towels on the table. Not sure if anybody had sneezed on them. Or touched them after not washing their hands in the crapper. Now, the food, it's important. Their specialty is chicken wings. And they are known for their sauce. It's interesting that ours came... Without sauce. Not a drop. But wait... Let's just ask the waiter... Where is he again...I'm not sure... Wait, wait, wait. Well, food is now getting cold. So screw it we got the check, paid and left. It's not a failure, just one more of 10,000 places not to go. read more

Food was good, but management is cheap. There was only one server responsible for practically the whole place; took forever to bring a side of sauce and screwed up the checks. I do NOT blame the server as she was apologetic and admitted she was hit with huge tables on the other side of the place. Also, we were outside and the heaters were substandard. Another server asked how the temp. was and we mentioned it was getting cold and to turn them up. Said she would tell the manager. No improvement. They need to stop penny pinching and hire more staff and keep their patrons comfortable. Great spot for wings and sports! Beer of the month gives you a $5 22oz beer. Only place in the area that has Labatt on draft and it's on special during Sunday football. High quality TV's throughout the dinning room so that even if you can't get a seat at the bar on Sunday you're still okay. Wings are of good quality for the price and those pizza logs are dope. Bar staff is great...Heidi, Leah, and Tee are the best in Frederick. Management team is super delightful and engaged with staff and patrons. Lauren and Paul are super and are always around to talk even if everything is great...it usually always is. I know this is a sports bar and a far cry from some of the other places I reviewed in DC...but as a Frederick resident it's quite possibly my favorite spot. I may be a bit biased here, I've been to Anchor Bar in Buffalo as well as Duffs. To start, this is definitely as close to a Buffalo wing from Buffalo itself that I've had in Maryland. That being said, something is lost in translation from Buffalo down to Maryland. That is not to say the wings are not good, they're just not quite as good as you can find in Buffalo. Still absolutely delicious, juicy, and a joy to eat. The atmosphere of this Anchor bar is solid, a little slice of Buffalo brought to Maryland. The Bills are playing whenever they play, and otherwise its loaded with bills memorabilia. It felt like the city I came so much to love in college. read more

Although the restaurant was busy, we were seated right away. The pizza logs are incredible. You can order 3 or 5 and you will not be disappointed. They had an incredible deal for fish and chips so my wife had that and she thoroughly enjoyed. I had a Philly cheesesteak which was good as well. We get to the restaurant at 10:20pm and 3-4 employees just walked past us as we stood at the hostess stand. Finally we wave down an employee and ask if we can place an order to go. At this point it's about 10:25pm. She looks around whispering to the other employees and says um no I'm sorry. I ask what time the kitchen closes and she says 10:30pm. I explain that I've called since 10:10pm but no one answered. She goes to get Anthony "Tony" the Manager. We wait for another 5-10 mins and he never comes out. Super rude.
