I've been to Anchor Bar in Buffalo and the Round Rock location is a faithful replica of the original. If you're a wing lover then this place should be on your must try list. Anchor Bar's original buffalo wing sauce in medium heat is near perfection. It's the perfect balance of heat and savory goodness. I also tried the dry rub ranch wings. Also, outstanding and while usually my favorite they actually take 2nd place to the buffalo sauce here. The wings were cooked perfectly- a little crispy and yet each bite was still juicy. Service was friendly and the bar area is great for socializing. We've got a handful of good wing joints in Austin, but Anchor Bar is in the top tier. read more

I was really excited to try this place since it originated in Buffalo, NY, home of the Buffalo Wing. Unfortunately, this place was such a disappointment. I ordered the bucket of boneless wings with 5 flavors, none of which were dry rubs, to go and it was $75.00. Chicken wings are NOT cheap, but that is okay. We had a some growing boys that wanted wings. That is NOT what I got though. I got 50 pieces of dry chicken nuggets. They were worse than you think, no flavor at all. What kind of QC happens at this restaurant to send out such awful food, which cost $75.00 On top of that, I called and talked to a manager. I sent her a picture of what I received. She said sorry, but I can't do anything I will call the owner. She told me that she could not get in touch with the owner and that was the last I heard from them. I sent an email to corporate office, texted the manager that I was still waiting for a call, called the restaurant back and NOTHING! I called back and got the owners number TJ and NOTHING. A friend and I decided on Anchor Bar since we knew they allow dogs (and I take mine with me everywhere I can!). Upon arrival to the patio (where dogs are allowed), we were told by management that a big party was expected on the patio, but that we were the priority, and that the party was aware there could be other people (and dogs) on the patio when they arrived. We chose a small table in the corner so the party would have their space, and went about ordering our drinks/dinner. The waitstaff was very attentive, and the manager even checked on us twice to make sure we were good with the big party going on in the same room with us. The food was good (definitely order the pizza logs!), and GREAT SERVICE ALL AROUND! On my first visit, I came into this location really close to closing time. Jasper greeted us at the door as she was sweeping, she seated us immediately, got us menu's and assured us that we were not going to be holding the team up in closing or putting them in a bind. Because of Jasper's outgoing approach and her excellent customer service, we decided to visit a second time about a week later which was a few days ago now. Totally excellent 2nd visit also. We noticed that Jasper was tending the bar. We didn't reach out to her but she saw us, recognized us, and stopped at the table to say hello. She also made a recommendation for an appetizer and we acted on it! Just totally a top notch customer service person and an excellent ambassador to the restaurant. 10 stars for Jasper! Our second visit also had good food and reasonable service. The price is good as well. We will certainly visit again in the future. This has the potential for being a slot in our regular rotation restaurants. Third visit was last night 8-11 just after happy hour. Place was busy. Our server was friendly and knew the menu well. Food? Excellent. We tried the pizza logs for an appetizer. Think pepperoni rolls but with wonton paper. Best combination of pizza and eggrolls around. My date had an order of wings which she mixed between lemon pepper and honey bourbon BBQ. She raved about the wings, which were the largest that either of us had seen. I had the chicken tenders mixed in spicy BBQ along with tater tots. The spicy BBQ is very heavy on the cayenne. I enjoyed mine, but the honey bourbon BBQ that I ordered with my tater tots is one of the best sauces I've had anywhere. Growing pains as a new restaurant? Also present. At around six PM, they were already out of lemons for the tea. Speaking of the tea, there's no sweetener on the table and the server will bring it to you with each refill. I ordered the tater tots to be tossed in the honey bourbon BBQ sauce. Instead, I was brought a side of the sauce. I mentioned this to the server who brought our food out and was assured that something would be done to correct my order. Nothing was ever done and none of the servers ever mentioned it. Honestly, no harm, no foul. But the lapses did make the newness of the restaurant obvious. Our service experience would've been much better with the same server throughout the meal. This place just recently opened near us and we have already been twice! We have tried the Buffalo cauliflower, the pizza logs, fried cheese, cup and char pepperoni pizza, and the wings. Everything has been amazing and you can't go wrong with anything you order here! The wings are HUGE and all the sauce flavors are great. Great ranch, it's a little heavier on the garlic than usual and super creamy. This is such a fun, chill sports bar with THE BEST wings. So crispy and juicy, with a huge variety of wet sauces and dry rubs. Favorites so far are Extreme Heat (definitely spicy, but not overwhelming, with an amazing complex black pepper flavor) and Korean, which isn't the usual sticky sweet Korean wings but rather a really interesting gingery sauce. Soooo good. They serve big frosty mugs of 20+ kinds of beer too! No review would be complete without mention of THE HAND WASHING STATION--I can't even--this is the best invention of all time and basically a spa for your hands. My husband and I both ordered the sandwich and tater tots which the waiter said were the best anywhere. We found the sandwich just okay, the bun had WAY too much salt on top. The au jus tasted like something out of a can, but the horseradish was great! Tater tots nothing special. We had noticed that they had jerk chicken wings (my fav) and not wanting to judge the restaurant on just one dish, we took some to go for our dinner. FINALLY a place in Austin with actual great buffalo wings! I'm from the northeast and love buffalo wings and these are definitely the best I've had down here. My husband and I opted for 20 wings (10 buffalo and 10 honey barbecue). The wing texture, medium buffalo sauce flavor, and blue cheese were all perfect. The barbecue were really flavorful too.
