Been going to this place when in the area for years after seeing it on Triple D. These are some of the best burgers and fries you will ever find. I have had burgers from some of the best places all over the US...theses are right there with all of them. Dirt cheap too. $1.25 for an order of fresh cut fries....ridiculous. Burgers are only $5-6 as well. They don't take credit card but you don't need to carry much money with you as you can be out of there for less than $10 a person unless you go for two burgers which I sometimes do. Service is fine as long as you are nice too. I have seen the servers be a little rude to some customers but that is always because the customer is being difficult. They are nice if you are. This is the best place for burgers in the Twin Ports area. It has an old, dark, fishing/shipping theme on the inside. Once your eyes are used to the darkness, order a beer and the Anchor burger, better yet the galley buster. The fries and burgers are hand made. read more

Previous experiences have been exceptional, BUT the last time me and my wife went there, the staff (which was mostly always distant) was out right rude. We normally go to the Anchor about once or twice a week, so we are not new to the quality of the establishment, but when we ordered a couple of burgers and fries to go, the burgers came back over cooked, cold, and with the toppings on the inside of the to-go box and not on the actual burger itself. I mean, if you get a regular burger with tomato and lettuce, it is going to slide around, but with a mushroom and swiss where the cheese is supposed to be melted with the mushroom and that all should stick to the burger. My cheese and mushrooms were literally stuck to the side of the box. Not to mention that they were also cold. The fires were another matter all together. On both orders, the fries were greasy. I am not talking like greasy fresh out of a fryer, but greasy as if they had been sitting around a bit. They were also cold. The second burger was supposed to have freshly cooked bacon on it, instead we got two very tiny pieces of cold limp bacon in return. With this order received, I asked the waitress if the order could be corrected. I got attitude in return. She eventually took it back to the cook to get fixed, but all they did was place more cold mushrooms on it and put another cold piece of cheese on it and left the fries alone. That was what was brought back to me in their way of 'fixing' the problem. We addressed that as well and ended up with more attitude about bringing up the fact that the order was not satisfactory. If it was a new cook, that is understandable. They need to learn just like everybody else. We got reprimanded by the crabby ass old woman who is the manager of the bar. I would highly recommend if you ever go there, pray before you go in and hope that the person who takes your order is not her. You may leave with a great burger, but you may leave your head, hopes, and dreams of going back behind. read more

The classic dive bar. If you want a burger, this is the place. The menu has about 10 different burgers with either fries or chips. All of the burgers were spot on. The only minor comment was that there was too much blue cheese on one burger. Nothing special about the fries and the chips were directly out of the bag - not house made. I was brought here by a tour guide while in town for a few days. WHile the interior was quite fascinating (a nautical theme), the real surprise was the cheap prices. Most of the burgers cost around $3.50, and that is not a slider with a handful of frozen french fries on the side. The $3.50 buys you a yummy medium-sized burger with a large portion of freshly-made fries. The two of us bought two burger plates and a pop for seven bucks and change, a meal that would probably cost at least 13 dollars in the Seattle area (my home) I hope to go back again soon. read more

If "cheap" is synonym for "good" than you'll think these burgers are the best. Really though, they are very average. Small overcooked, underseasoned burger on a dry crumbly bun with un-melted cheese and soggy onions. That cheap tasteless burger along with horrible service is not a good combo. I understand they are running the show out of that tiny kitchen so I didn't expect anything to happen quickly, but over an hour for a cheeseburger was a little much. Awesome atmosphere though! This was the first time my husband n I went to dinner at the Anchors Bar. We had always heard what great burgers they had so decided to give it a try. We seated ourselves n ordered, the waitress didn't crack a smile or seem at all interested in serving us. We both ordered the burgers n fries, which came pretty quickly. However, she plopped them on the table n left too fast to b sure we had everything. I wanted a knife to cut my burger n tried to get her attention, but couldn't. My husband went n asked for one. Through our entire meal she never came to see if food was ok, or see if we needed more to drink. Later I believe was the owner came n just started removing our plates, so I took that opportunity to tell her how we felt. She asked which waitress n I described her, as she wasn't there but 5 min so we certainly didn't know her name. The owner (I believe) then just walked away, never even apologized for the very poor service. We both used restroom, neither had anything to dry hands. No one brought our bill, we ended up going to the bar to pay. This was horrible experience n food wasn't that great. Well we were so excited to get to this place after watching the episode on Diners, Drive Ins & Dives. With all the build up, I couldnt wait to walk in the door, only to be disappointed!!!! Place was packed, I dont know why!! Ok the beer was cold, the service sucked, waited what seemed for ever to get a second round of drinks, and even way longer for the the burger, but my mouth was watering, waiting for this so called awesome burger. Well it finally came!! OMG there was no taste to it, it was dry, the fries were over cooked. The service sucked, I was sooo disappointed, maybe thats why only the camera crew only showed up & NOT Guy Fieri !!! Triple D got this one wrong!! 100° plus inside, bathroom stunk worse than the slums in India and (no oxford comma that's right) there were flies everywhere. I heard that they keep the bread outside in a dilapidated old buffet. I love dive bars and I love the food at this place. Burgers and fries are about the only items on the menu but oooohhhhhh those burgers and fries are good. I've been here twice. The first time on a Saturday so I can't say how good or bad the service was. I think it was good. They were REALLY busy. But today? 4 tables and 3 bar stools open, none of them clean and toweled off and the waitress standing at the end of the bar chatting. As I sit here 4 tables have come in and had to sit at tables that haven't been cleaned. What's more, once the dirty dishes were removed the tables were never washed. Ketchup, mustard, crumbs, water. I hope it's just this VERY incompetent waitress. If not, the health department should get involved! read more

We stopped in on Memorial Day and they were kind of busy. We walked in the door and got the impression we were in the way and they didn't want us there. A table finally cleared up and we were seated. The female waitress came over and took our drink order and I was still ordering and she walked away. When our food did arrive my burger was completely over cooked and black the fries were cold and soggy. We really don't travel to Superior that often however we for sure will never be back here! To start, I have a few friends that rave about this place. I trust them. For the customers, I'll put a TL;DNR description at the bottom of this review. For the owners who need to make corrections, I'm giving my full description. I had to give it a shot. I sat at the bar and the atmosphere was really cool . I showed up at about 5:50 on Monday, 8/11/15, apparently the end of the female bartender's shift. She was fine, took my order, gave me a tap beer in a chilled mug. Then the bald guy with a goatee showed up and took her place. I could not get him to address me unless I called him out. It was starting to get a little busy and perhaps they had become slightly understaffed but you could not see any change in urgency from him or his brown haired bearded coworker. The bartender seemed far more interested in talking to the server about his FanDuel picks than serving customers. When he did speak, there were a couple of instances where his tone towards the customers was really inappropriate and lacking courtesy. During my stay I saw three different people come up and speak that their table had not been served in too long, I watched the cook bring out a take out bag, which sat by the register for a few minutes while the lady who was there to pick it up was there the whole time, and the bartender absolutely had time to check what was up with it. My burger finally came after 35 minutes. I know they say on the menu it can take a while, and honestly, I think the cook was probably pumping out the food as fast as he could, but a little reassurance that my food would be on it's way shortly would have meant a lot. Especially since I got caught between two bartender's shifts, I was starting to wonder if the new guy didn't realize I had a food order. As for the burger and fries, well my friends were all saying it may be the best burger they had ever had. I thought it was good for the price, but as far as overall burger awesomeness it was pretty well average to slightly above average. Certainly not worth the trouble. The fries were the fresh cut kind where they cook them darker tan/ brown. They were fine. Too long did not read: Cool atmosphere, Cheap food and beer, TERRIBLE service (and I could tell I wasn't the only one with that opinion). After seeing Anchor Bar on Triple D, we thought we'd check it since we were in the area. From the outside (and the inside too, in a way), the Anchor appears to be a very rundown dive, but...well...it is. Despite this, the interior is awesome, filled with nautical artifacts/junk included a life ring from the Edmund Fitzgerald. The burgers (pretty much the only thing on the menu) can be topped with combinations such as the cream cheese and green olive burger (which I ordered with jalapenos) or the cashew and Swiss cheese burger, but are, unfortunately, not cooked to order. They, although delicious, lack juiciness (I could make a juicier burger at home), which is understandable for a burger cooked well done. Every burger comes with dill pickle chips and fresh-cut fries, which are full of potato flavor but are limp, oily, and lack salt, despite tasting pretty good. Regardless of the food, Anchor Bar is an unusual spot that was well worth the visit. read more
