We love coming here for lunch or an early dinner when driving back to Chicago from a weekend in Wisconsin. The food and drinks are good, but the real reason to come is to sit outside on the lawn by the river and watch all the boats coming or going from Lake Koshkonong. It's set up for bands to play, and I would like to try coming on a Friday or Saturday evening sometime. It's dog friendly, although dogs are supposed to stay by the outdoor bar area versus the lawn area. The inside seems to be a pretty nice sports bar, but if the weather is nice we would rather enjoy the river views outside. There's always an eclectic clientele, a combination of bikers, boaters, locals, and people driving through on the freeway. Servers are always very friendly. read more

We went there at 2pm on 4/4/21 and found a couple of bar stools at the outdoor bar where people were already sitting. A server came out and delivered food to those people and had a 5 minute conversation with them in which he mentioned he was the manager. When he was finally done with those people, I asked if I could get a couple of drinks. He said, and I quote, "this is not a serving area and you need to move to an area where we are serving people". My response "how do I tell the difference?" He said: "somewhere over there" as he pointed. I said "Sunset bar it is!" And left. My point is this: here's the correct response from a "manager": "I'm sorry sir but I do not have anyone working this area, let me seat you where I can get a server to help you right away." Awful!! Food was terrible and VERY overpriced for what we got! The drinks were mediocre at best and the service was pretty much nonexistent. We had to get up from our table three times to get things that should have been provided by the waitress who was more interested in talking to her coworkers that serving the one table she was supposed to be working!! We completely acknowledge there is a staffing shortage and feel for everyone working hard during this tough time, but we were disappointed to see what appeared to be a manager yell at staff about setting up tables in front of guests. Wanted to love this place due to ambience and music but was very disappointed. We ordered nachos and it took over 1 hour to get them. The waitress was clueless and I realised times are tough but every bite of our nachos included its own dental floss of hair. We had 4 eating them and at one time we were all pulling long hair out of our mouths. Im sorry but it was disgusting. We will never recommend this place to our worst enemy. It's pretty rare for me to review somewhere unless I really feel like you need to make a better life choice. Supporting small business is key to me but this place needs the Bar takeover show to come in and have a good reality check on how to improve there operating system. We have been here twice with the new owners. The first time: we waited forever for a server to come to our table. Placed order and two drinks. Two drinks came after 15 minutes and was told the food would be another 40 minutes! Only told us after getting our drinks. We sat and enjoyed them to find out it would be another 40 minutes, 20 minutes later. Yet a table next to us arrive after we got our drinks and received their order of nachos. Made no sense. We packed up and left. Second time: We gave them another shot for our special occasion. Make a reservation 5 days in advanced and called to verify an hour before arriving. When we got there they gave our table away to another group. After shear chaos, they finally figured out what to do and got us seated. Of course they had to make multiple comments about how we should have booked a private event for our ten group party to insure a table. Strange, since it was just a table request. Then the wait! It took almost 2 hours to get our food, which came out cold for every single person in our party. I felt terrible because some people in our group eat around 5pm and it was 8pm by the time we were served. All in all just go for drinks. Seated promptly with menus. No waitress for 20 mons although four waitresses were just walking around doing nothing. We waved one lady over. Drinks came, but no ice water which we asked for when we ordered Bloody Marys, which were average. Lunch came relatively quick but no plasticware or napkins!! My husband had to walk around to ask a waitress for some. Ketchup bottle still had safety seal on and that was frustrating. Why don't the workers check these! My husband and I, friends, and family have been coming to your place as long as I can remember. But the last few years not so much bc of the service. We decided to try last night and what a mistake AGAIN. I called ahead for a party of 8. We spent over $200 with very sub par food. I brought up to the wonderful waitress (she was actually great) that the 1/2 lb. of "pit ham" was anything but desirable and it was cold and looked and tasted microwaved. For $14 I guess I expected a bit more. The waitress again was very nice and replaced it with a few shaved pieces of ham, but no where near a 1/2 lb. then the manager came up and proceeded to show me a pic of a white cardboard box labeled "pit ham" and try to argue in front of our entire group, to prove to me what it was and how it's "fresh." NO APOLOGY, nothing. Wow this is the service you want to give your customers of 20 years, And expect people to return?! We are avid boaters with a group of 6-8 full boats out every weekend and we'd love to start coming back into your place but not with this poor service and horrible food. I reached out directly asking to speak with a manager today and haven't heard anything at all. Disappointing. I just know we will NEVER be returning and will steer people clear of it! read more

This place has lots of potential but comes far from what it could be. Server was slow and didn't know the menu, took 20 minutes for a drink and food came out cold and not much flavor. I ordered the chicken mango nachos, there were 3 small pieces of mango on the entire platter and the chicken didn't have much flavor like a pit roasting that it talks about. We love this bar and have been coming for years when we camp at the KOA down the road. This is a great place to sit back and relax, have a few drinks and some great food by the water! Service is always friendly! You will notice that like many restaurants/businesses they may be understaffed due to Covid. We ate last night and there is absolutely no difference in the quality of food or the fantastic outdoor atmosphere with live music! The wait staff and bartenders that were present kept positive and hustled their butts off regardless of the very large crowds. Being in the service industry myself, please be patient as many local establishments work towards bouncing back from the pandemic. You will not regret the food or atmosphere at the anchor bar! read more

my first review. This place had me so upset I was crying as I walked out the door. We ordered an anchor burger wings and shrimp skewers. my hisband noticed his wings were cold. he asked the bartender on duty if the cook had waited till my burger was complete. to serve it. She said he did use profanity not that either of us had noticed. . at no time did he raise his voice or was in anyway threatenin. the bartender became instantly snotty because of the supposed profanity. Which o don't deny just could have been said but didn't notice. I ask politely several times if she would just go warm up his wings. She continued to go on and on about me being rude also at which time she felt the bottom of the tin plate they came in. and said we'll the plates hot. again I asked could you just go warm them up.my husband is not picky. but cold food at $50 is ridicules. she FINALLY walked back to the kitchen to do as I askEd. I took one bite of my burger and again Luke warm at best: then I felt the shrimp, cold. It's over 90 outside. at which time i took the other food over to kitchen. and said could you just warm up everything. again the bartender had a major attitude, which my response is you know what just refund my food. Then her and the cook came out displaying hostility And told us to leave. Refusing to give us a refund. They had packed up our cold food. During the conversation from The beginning I asked to talk to a manger. Red the bartenders response is we don't have one here. Then I had asked for a phone to call someone in charge. Again was told it's on the menu. it was no where on it even when she looked at it which FINALLy she wrote it down. Which was just the bars number which she answered. ive been to this place several times each summer for over a decade and NEVER been treated so poorly! over a mistake they made and could have easily remedied by simply just warming up the food. so as long as Kendal the cook and red the bartender are working I suggest avoiding the place like the plague. read more

I was let down by the service at the Anchor Inn. We sat outside where all of the customers were sitting. They were not very busy but the waiter was not professional, had his mask hanging over his ear, and did not come to check on us. Our food was okay but we had to ask 2 other waitstaff to send our server back for napkins and condiments. We have been to the old Anchor inn several times and loved it. Finally the new one opened and we were all disappointed to say the least. The food was okay we ordered 2 burgers and chili. It cost 2 more dollars for fries with the burgers and the chili came with no toppings. A small plate of chopped onions and shredded cheese was 50 cents each. We also ordered frickles and were charged for ranch. We were not informed of the charge until the bill came. Service was awful even though there was hardly any people. The servers were sitting at the bar taking selfies. Our server Nicole was rude and not attentive. Not coming back. read more

Anchor is an ok restaurant, pretty stained grilled food, the only option will all burgers and sandwiches is fries. It's probably more fun in the summer. My main takeaway from this restaurant is it is SO LOUD. We had to yell at each other during lunch. Beware of the meat raffles on Saturdays, makes it even louder! And it goes on forever. We have been here several times over the years. Food is good but service has always been iffy. Stopped today on our way north. Service was terrible. It took 15/20 minutes to get someone to take our drink order. We figured we better order food at the same time since service was slow. About 30/40 minutes later the waiter brought our food but we still hadn't gotten our drinks. We had no silverware, napkins to eat our food. We waited a15 minutes still. Nothing. Finally got up and went into the restaurant to get our own. She never brought any. We asked for condiments. The waitress never brought it. Ugh! read more

We have eaten here often, enjoying outdoor meals in the summer. Wonderful menu--sandwiches or entrees--for whatever mood you are in. Had some the best surf and turf ever there--the filet was perfectly cooked. Good for kids. Great music and entertainment line up. And, terrific caring staff. When they found a purse we left behind, they went to great lengths to contact us and return it. I would eat there again. read more

Great spot for a date. Went there and ate outside, their tables out there are in a perfect position next to the water. The cheese curds were great as an appetizer, I had a wrap that was exceptionally made. There was no live music at the place when I was there but I have been there nights when there is, it's still a good spot regardless. Overall the food and atmosphere was very good. read more

It's a cool place on the river and the food is pretty good...when you can finally place your order. it was just my wife and I and sat at a table outside by the playground. After waiting almost 30 minutes for someone to wait on us we moved to the bar hoping to get better service...nope! It was so bad we were tempted to dine and dash! Anchor is great if your taking in a couple out of towners for the ambience. Draft prices are almost double for what you can get at bars right down the road. Watch for the upcharges when ordering food. They are quite steep and are well hidden. Service has somewhat improved but for the prices us local people can find better for much lower prices. read more

The service was absolutely the slowest ever!  We waited almost a half hour for our drinks and close to 2 hours for our dinner.  When we said we were leaving, our dinner suddenly appeared.  There were 4 of us and we ordered 2 mojitos, a margarita and 2 soft drinks.  For dinner we had nachos, cheeseburger,  blt, mac & cheese bites and a prime rib sandwich.  Our meal was $145 with tax & tip.  Not only was the service super slow, the cost of the meal was ridiculous for bar food.  I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone.  It's a shame because it is on the river and it would be a great place on a hot summer day.  I live in the area but I will never go back there again. read more

Great Food, especially the chicken strips, the best I've ever eaten - well, I don't really order them anywhere else - at Anchor they are more of a lightly breaded tenderloin. The burgers are great & the wraps too. If you like Bloody Mary's you've come to the right place. Ask for the Bloody Mary menu - there are a variety of price ranges & styles (with a huge amount of toppings). Entertainment - Check out their calendar for some of the best bands around, and in the summer, you get to see them outside on the water, usually beside a campfire. read more

Though the atmosphere is refreshing, sitting outdoors along the bank of the river - this is the second time we have had horrendous food. We ordered Prime Rib the first time. Besides waiting more than 40 minutes for our dinner (restaurant was nearly empty at 7 pm) the meat was cold and very over done. We requested medium rare but received "shoe leather". Last night we stopped by for their Friday night fish fry. We used to thoroughly enjoy the encrusted seafood fare, but what we received last night was nothing short of awful. We ordered the Sesame Encrusted Mahi Tuna. What she brought to our table was a slab of dry Tuna... not a sesame in sight, then drowned with a huge ladle of Wasabi sauce. We couldn't eat it. I guess we'll just get a burger next time. This restaurant can't compete with our true Wisconsin Supper Clubs, that's for sure. read more
