I visited on Monday for the primary reason of it was the venue for the poker league tonight. The place doesn't seem to be in the safest of neighborhoods, but I didn't factor that into the score. I probably would have given 5 stars because the service, the pour of my drink, the price, and environment feel is top notch. Such a neat interior. I love playing pool and it was fire to see a pool table. I did not play though. So, I deduct 2 stars from 5 because the bar did not offer food. Kitchen was closed today. I strongly disagree with drinking without a source of food in your stomach. That's my opinion. Likely won't visit back mainly because it's out of my way, but this place has potential. ***I revisited this evening. I ordered steak fritas. The plate presentation and cook on the steak was great. The fries were underdone for certain, but had good seasoning on them. Steak was subpar in my opinion. Dipping sauce prepared on side was good. Overall, I'm keeping the rating at 3. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I didn't. Me and my buddy went there to watch the preseason Dolphins game. We walked in and immediately realized that the air conditioning was not working in the room where the game was being televised. It was 90 plus degrees in this room. They only had two TVs showing the game. The two TVs that had the game on were both so blurry we couldn't even see the graphics on the screen. And, they couldn't figure out why but the game was only in Spanish. The commercials were in English but the game was in Spanish. We ordered three different appetizers. The best of the three was definitely the egg rolls. They were delicious. The worst was most definitely the jalapeno poppers which were freezer burnt and pretty nasty. The highlight of the place was definitely Debbie, our server/bartender. She was delightful and very apologetic about the environment and the TVs and the food issue. She tried very hard to make us feel at home and she absolutely made us feel welcome and wanted, but unfortunately we only stayed halfway through the second quarter. It was just so hot it was unbearable. I will probably give this place another shot and hopefully the situation will be better. But for now I can only give two stars and both of those belong to Debbie. read more

Sunday funday and stopped in for a quick drink and to catch the last of a football game. (Plus, multiple pool tables - so GREAT!) The bartender left mutiple customers without an acknowledgement or drink for easily ten minutes in a bar that was half empty and was rude. There was an over-served drunk blonde woman with her child who was likely under 5 sitting at the bar. (Apparently legal in FL, but a bad look. Its not a place for little ones) The bartender did finally speak up (more quickly than he was serving customers ) that she shouldn't have a child at the bar to which she loudly responded "we know the owner " bad for business on all counts. Owner should be made aware. Focus on putting cold drinks in hands and keeping little children from sitting at the bar. And hire a bartender who will focus on the customer and make your establishment some $. read more

Went here to see a friends band. The name says it all "dive bar" .... and it truly is. I can't say it was a bad experience because the staff was super nice and the drinks cheap but it's definitely not a place I would go out of my to visit again. The bar is really small so the band was literally right in front of us and it was super loud. They did have food there provided by "Scratch Kitchen" owned by Tucker Dukes. If you've ever had their burgers at Tucker a dukes you know they are amazing.... While we were there Uber Eats can in for a pick up and another person did take out as well so it seems the food must be good. There was a mixed crowd of young people plus a few regular types. Great for someone who loves the whole dive bar scene. read more

Last night, friends and I went to this little dive bar in the cutest little neighborhood. You would never know that the city is tearing down all the charming places to build concrete jungles - like what's happening to Hollywood, FL. We went there specifically to eat from the pop up of Tom's Louisiana Kitchen New Orleans inspired food. I got there early and sat at the bar and met all the locals. Went into the kitchen to say hello to Thomas Tannozzini, the chef - in person. He and his helper, Heather were busy getting the kitchen squared away. There was a HUGE container of crawfish, another large container of homemade olive tapenade.. and another container of roasted garlic in olive oil.. I met Paige, the barmaid and she was very friendly. In fact, everyone in there was very friendly.. a bunch of locals sitting and chilling after work. One of my friends got the jambalaya and red beans and rice, another one got the swamp stew and something else.. Another gal & I ordered the grilled oysters, a pound of crawfish and mussels.. Have mercy of us.. we became silent as we began our food feast. The gal that had the jambalaya said it was the best she had ever eaten.. she also said she had never had red beans and rice that had so much flavor, and she has traveled all over the world eating all regions of the planet. She kept remarking about the seasoning. She said she could taste every spice.. friend and I got the dozen grilled oysters. I could taste wine and garlic and I don't know what else but I sucked every bit of juice out of each shell.. OMG, the mussels.. unlike any I have ever had. They were no more than 2" long, tender, tasty.. he put beer and fresh spinach and bacon and bleu cheese in the broth over the mussels. I picked up the bowl and drank every single drop of that broth... truly amazing. bleu cheese bits with mussels.. who would have thought. The crawfish were large and there was even meat in the claws... i could taste old bay seasoning in the crawfish broth. It was truly an orgasmic experience. The last time I ate food this good from New Orleans was when I was in... New Orleans. He outdid himself. The bar has got a neighborhood vibe. Friendly, clean, pool table, little lights on the ceiling, couple of TV's at the bar.. dark and cool... Even the bathroom was clean. Thomas does pop up food orgies at Anchors Aweigh.. and his menu must list 15 things, po boys, oysters, mussels, muffuletta's, jambalaya,voodoo rondeaux, swamp stew, funky blonde mussels, gumbo yaya, crawfish and crab etouffee, creole bread pudding, shrimp po boy, oyster poboy, New Orleans garlic shrimp.. I mean, we have New Orleans food right here in South Florida, thanks to Thomas. He doesn't do this everyday. You have to check his FB page "Tom's Louisiana Kitchen" for when he's planning to cook there again for a pop up cooking treat. And if you love New Orleans food, you can't miss this opportunity. Love the new changes to this bar. They cleaned it up. New felt On the tables. No smoking inside. Which is nice. And now kareoke. Something have been needing for awhile. I'm a local and I've been coming to this location for years but with brand new management this place got the much deserved needed facelift. Great place for a low key get together, local Dive bar to just chill and grab a few beers or drinks, shoot some pool and if you have a bad day just meet all different kinds of people. Bartenders are amazing...especially Deborah and Tina! Super friendly and great for laughs I love them! Great prices, music is always playing and you can play your own music. Live band weekends are the best good time to dance. Food! The tacos are savageeeeeeee!!!! Haven't had a chance to try the rest of the stuff on the menu but I'm sure it will be good too. Wish they had late night snacks but it's new. Lastly, management....for the matter of months for new ownership has had to make changes it's worth every penny.
