I was so disappointed today. my friends who were from out of town asked where they should eat. I suggested Andale for lunch. I wasn't planning on joining them as I was in a meeting but at the last minute, calendar opened up so I texted to let them know i'm joining them. they were already eating. I arrived. they were seated at a table for 2. I asked if I can join them. the waiter said no. that table is for 2 and they can't add a chair. the restaurant was literally empty. I asked if they can be moved and he bluntly said that's not possible! I asked for the manager. waiter asked it I was upset. I said yes i'm upset because it doesn't make sense when you have so many empty tables. manager shows up. surprised i'm upset although he quickly said yes I can move you and he did. I ordered my salad. instead of water that they served to my friends already, I asked for hot water. waitress went to get the hot water but came back and said the manager says we have to charge you $1 for the hot water! that did it! talk about service! I hadn't been to Andale in a while. We went today for their wonderful back patio. It has always been a nice restaurant but today it was exquisite! The food was delicious ! The margaritas were some of the best I've had. The service was exceptional. Everyone was very attentive and friendly... The new sit down service was wonderful... This was the most unsatisfying dinner I've had in a long time! The chicken in the burrito tasted and looked like pork. There are too many raw onions on top of the burrito and the chipotle sauce had no flavor and looked like some kind of gravy! The chipotle shrimp tacos had spicy shrimp raw onions and hardly any cabbage slaw on it and no sauce it was just bland except for the spicy shrimp. Had the Andale chicken burrito. Chicken was a strange mix of leg meat (not a problem) and those horrible fake looking cubes of chicken you get in cheap microwave meals. Flavor was bland. Edges around the tortilla were dry, stale and breaking off. I thought it was toasted but on closer inspection I saw it wasn't. Definitely had a better burrito for less money elsewhere. Ate here for lunch. I guess tall people will enjoy their salsa bar. I am 5'4" and it was almost eye level on the counter. My carnitas and tortillas were dried out. My husband got the chile colorado. The sauce tasted funny. I went to Andales aftre a long time for lunch, the food was as good as ever. I had their Crispy tacos (3 of them) and they made a vegetarian version with a lot of grilled vegetables. Usually when a restaurant grilled vegetables, its mostly onions, bll peppers & zucchini...but here, theye had these plus nicely sauteed carrots, a few varieties of squach..all of them grilled with taco spices and served with salsa verde. Simple gobblicious :) the shells are really crisp and tasty as well. My only crib was that they stopped making their vegetarian flautas :( :( I reeeeeally wish they' bring it back..please pretty please! I HEART flautas, and Andales are the only restaurants that make vegetarian versions. read more

Well, we have frequented Andale since 1987. A once loved place now doesn't deserve a review. Carnitas plate was poor quality and poor portioning, and over priced. The Mesquite Chicken Salad is only a poorly textured depleted image of it's former self. Weak on the once plentiful Goat Cheese, no more crunchy Jicama, over sized leaves of sogginess, etc. After noting the cashier took a double look at the Carnitas plate, I opened the box and saw this miniature kids size meal, asked if this was correct. The cook said, curtly, that is it!. I kindly retorted the Pork must be expensive. Upon trying to eat it, was when the real disappointment set-in. Dry cubes of pork, flavorless beans and rice, a smattering of "avocado mash" once called Guacamole. I long for the good old days when the food there reigned supreme above all Taquerias! read more

The food tastes really fresh and is not greasy. Between this and the sustainable sourcing, Andale is as guilt-free as Mexican food can get. My friends and I have tried the tostada salad, shrimp fajitas, shrimp burrito and nachos. Portions are big enough to share and most are priced under $15. I had not had dinner and it was already 9:30pm and quite a few of the restaurants do not serve food after that time but found this one on YELP, they have Mexicans working there so I figured it must be good and it was. I ordered the shrimp plate which was very good, the flavoring was good and the sauce wasn't creamy so it seemed healthier, I love that they gave me freshly made beans, not refried beans with corn tortillas plus the plate came with guacamole. The only reason I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 is that you walk up and order your food then they will deliver it, I wanted the full on service of finding a seat, and getting someone to take my order so that they could give me recommendations. From the 1990s on, Andale was one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the world. But something happened around 2019. At first I thought it was COVID restrictions, but the changes seem to be permanent. I guess they got some new managers who are more interested in making a buck than in serving great food. * They used to have authentic, hand-made corn tortillas, made by an old lady who worked there. She's gone. Now you get generic mass-made tortillas. * It used to be spotlessly clean with a lively, cheerful staff. Now the servers slouch around despondentlly. The place is messy, with dirty dishes piled on carts. There were flies all over my food. * They used to cook chicken and steak on a grill. The grill is turned off, and it has dishes and machines piled on it. * They used to have tasty beans in a clear liquid, probably cooked in-house in a pot. Now the beans are the canned variety, with icky, pasty goo. * The rice used to be amazing. Now it it tastes like canned tomato sauce. * The fajitas used to be an exciting treat. Now the're like a TV dinner, with bland, uncharred meats and vegetables, those horrible beans and the meh rice. * They used to have a salsa bar of great flavors. Now you can get salsa cups one by one, but they're all too hot. * The grilled fish tacos used to be epic. But now they're mostly cabbage with not much sign of fish. Also they used have two tortillas per taco, to make it easier to handle and to give you more food. Now it's one tortilla. I keep hoping Andale will get their mojo back. A very good Mexican restaurant, way about average, it is a cafeteria style one order at the counter and they deliver to the table you pick. Service was good, with a smile and suggestions. We were in Los Gatos for the Saturday night and had not made a reservation anywhere for dinner. Many places did not have availability but Andale was able to take us without any wait! As some of you may know from my other reviews, my boyfriend and I have been on a vegan kick but that night, I caved for some fish tacos. He was able to get a tofu burrito which he fully enjoyed, though! My tacos were perfectly fried and delicious. Their cucumber jalapeno margarita was perfectly spicy and fresh, as well. read more

We were helped by a curly hair young man w a great smile, he was funny and didn't make it seem like we were having dinner but like we were on vacation having a good time ! Have always loved Andale's. Had the Mesquite Chicken Salad and my son had the Camarones Al Ajillo. My salad was decent, but the chicken and dressing were very salty. I couldn't finish it due to how salty it was. My sons dish (shrimp, rice and beans) were also extremely salty. I have really enjoyed Andale since the early 80's. However, it seems it's changing. Great fresh food, hot and miss I got a half bowl of warm tortilla chips and no pico de gallo, unlike other reviews I've read. We ordered things from the menu and some things not, they made it easily accessible from vegetarians to vegan. The peanut sauce was heavenly, sadly he busser took it before I was finished. Grab a corona, a watermelon drink or just cold ice water. Everything brought out looked absolutely delicious and presented beautifully (I totally checked out what every other table were eating) They loose one point for the lack of courteousness from the girls bringing food and bussing the tables. I've been here a few times and find it OK, but nothing to write home about. Oh and the bathroom was totally gross, my son had to go, and it was so bad we had to go next door to the coffee shop. So good. I think my only complaint about this place is the fact that they don't give you more... and they give you a pretty decent amount...so that's saying something. I'm doing that stupid low-carb diet, you know the one where you can't eat anything actually good. So, I ordered the Carnitas and tearfully gave my rice and beans to my kid. Carnitas were fantastic. I loved that I could load up the salsa bar they make it seem like I'm actually eating more than just meat. I loved the slaw and ate like every salsa out there. However what I loved most about this place was the service. Seriously the workers here were the sweetest people ever. They waved and played with my kid (13 months old) and he ate them up...not literally, he was full on rice and beans. The one I ordered comes with sauce over it which I like. I ordered it and when I got home there was 1/4 the sauce in a tiny cup and L OTS of beans so I had to throw it away.
