I was craving for some tacos and remembered a restaurant named Zona Rosa featured on KQED's Check Please and took my girlfriend here for date night Friday. We arrived late in the evening around 730-8pm and restaurant wasn't too crowded and perfect. The restaurant itself is pretty small and cozy but bright and vibrant. We came here some unique takes on tacos and I was also here for the drinks. Drinks were pretty well made and a tequila shot with my cocktail order definitely set my appetite just right. We ordered a bunch of tacos and the ones that stood out to me were the ceviche tostada - extremely refreshing and good - and the fish tacos with the batter and fish perfectly fried. Food is always 5/5. Came out hot, love the unique flavors. Waiter was very nice and cheery, however, for not being busy, water was not refilled and slow to get the check. New place for me - the description of the drinks was better than the taste - they didn't have the depth of variation that could bring the umpf out. All the sauces were quite unique - each has a strong flavor - if you liked Smokey, then you will enjoy the cashew salsa. This was my third time at this restaurant. The service was great and very friendly. Had the guac and chips. The chips were homemade and tasted great. We got the crunchy tacos. They were good but a bit too greasy for my taste. The carnitas tasted perfect with a nice flavor. We also had the Apollo enchiladas and the sauce was perfect. I will definitely come back again. Good apres bike riding spot for lunch. They offer indoor, sidewalk, and curbside seating. We elected to eat on the sidewalk to people watch and enjoy the day. Service is great and our food arrived exactly as ordered. They were very generous with the guacamole and chips! We came here on a Sunday evening to have dinner and a cocktail. It was absolutely lovely sitting outside. They have a covered area and a few uncovered tables. We were attended to immediately after sitting down. I ordered the Chimichurri hangar steak tacos. So good! I also had a vodka soda. They have so many varieties of tacos, can't wait to go back. Zona Rosa has gotten much better over the years bc I actually used to dislike it. I love their smoked cashew dip & shrimp tacos. Our waitress was really nice and the ambiance is great for going out with the girls. A great place for dinner & drinks. For those complaining about price for just "tacos" consider that this is an upscale Mexican spot and not a taco truck, it's nice to have upscale ethnic spots and Mexican food is not equivalent to cheap food. Service is mediocre for me because both waitress and waiter were very nice and informative. The waitress provided us with recommendations and gave us information about dishes. However, it took forever for all of the dishes to come out. . Didn't seem like the restaurant was particularly bustling so service was pretty slow for what it was. The dishes were pretty good but nothing that blew me out of the park. I feel like I've been to similar restaurants with better portions and same flavor for less. Disclaimed: The tacos came in two. Simply put...overpriced average food with tiny portions. Tacos are $7 dollars each with absolutely no side dish. Not even a few tortilla chips. God forbid if you ask for fish or shrimp tacos, then it's $5 more for a total of $12 each. You probably have to eat about 3-4 to get full.. My son wanted a brunch item and it was 2:09 pm. We asked the waiter (guy), he said they stop serving brunch at 2:00 pm and couldn't care less to make an exception. Same guy, in the midst of our meal, walks out the door as I presume his shift ended. Not a word that he is leaving and some other lady just shows up as if she has been serving us all along. Very weird vibe in this place. Zero stars is all this place deserves. I am baffled how this place stays in business. Definitely a hard pass. read more

Truly top of the line service! I came with my dog on a hot day for lunch and not only did I get patio seating and food quickly, but also felt like the servers really made sure we were comfortable, from getting water for my dog to offering to switch my table to get out of the sun. I really was a bother (asking about orange juice which wasn't on the menu, ordering and handing off takeout to a family member down the street before paying...long story) and they were beyond graceful and trusting about it. And of course the food was so comforting to suit the atmosphere. I ordered the Albondigas con Arroz which was like a warm hug - and it came so quick even though it was busy! The ambiance here is great- it's fun and lively and modern. The service was really good for how understaffed the restaurant was. There was only one server- with every table inside full and one outside- that's 11 tables. So we had to wait a good while to be greeted. But the server was hustling and he was on it after that. The food was good but nothing great. The enchiladas and fish taco were lacking in depth of flavor BUT the salsas from the tres salsa we ordered as an appetizer brought everything up a notch. Highly recommend getting the tres salsas as a starter to snack on and enhance your main course. We even mixed all three salsas together and it was really tasty. Had dinner here again recently with friends and the experience was better this time. We stayed away from the nachos and had the bean dip instead - and that was a great choice. Very tasty. We also had the Esquites (grilled and seasoned corn) and that was very good too. For dinner, the four of us shared an assortment of chimichurri tacos and salmon. At 530 pm there were several parties lined up to check in. The first party 4 young girls were sat down by hostess (Jaiden). We all waited for him to wash their table, making another trip to get napkins and tableware. Next was our turn, we had a reservation. The hostess acknowledged us and said he would set our table shortly. He proceeded to take care of 4 more tables setting them up and never coming back but made us wait 10 mins. I was so overwhelmed with his blatant rudeness. He was horrible! It ruined our dinner! I have lived in Los Gatos for many years. We have had Mindy wait on us many times. There are many young people that want to work. Jaiden doesn't deserve to work there. I will not go to Zona Rosa again if that horrible hostess is working there. We went to celebrate a birthday for lunch on a weekday. I made a reservation for 11:45, it was ok to have just walked in, no waiting. We ordered the dip trio starter, my favorite was the smoked cashew dip. It could use more chips. We had entrees, my favorite was the bass tacos , 2 per order, just the right amount. Gluten Free Warning. We went to the restaurant because the menu leads you to believe most of the dishes are gluten free. They mark the few items that contain gluten. Finally, we thought we found a Mexican restaurant that had a lot of gluten free dishes to offer, including chips and guacamole. Unfortunately, that was not the case. They don't have a dedicated fryer, so it turns the where we thought 70% of the menu was gluten free, it turns out it is actually only 10-20% of the menu due to cross contamination. However, the food is incredible. I am not GF, but my partner is. The guacamole with pistachio's was fantastic. The chips are thick and crispy and the pistachios add a nice crunch. The empanadas are on the small side, but they have good flavor and love the sauce for dipping. I had the Al pastor tacos which were also very good. While my partner's choices were limited, they thoroughly enjoyed the salmon tacos. I really wish Zona Rosa would get a dedicated fryer. read more

Came in for dinner with some friends on a Thursday night and this is a cute little place. Made a reservation at 6pm and was seated at the right time. Started off with some drinks and I ordered the Farmarita, which had fresh carrot and ginger juice, however I wish there was a little but more as I could hardly taste it, only the tequila, which for some people may not be a bad thing! We started the food portion with some chips and guac which was good and the trio of dipping sauces were good as well, different, but good. One was a cashew salsa and the other was a pumpkin one, super fun and never had that before. The Tito's salsa was good as well, but more traditional. For my main dish, I ordered the Pesca Del Dia which id didn't realize was a whole fish (didn't read fully the menu)! This thing was perfectly fried and super fun to break apart to make my own fish tacos. It was accompanied by rice and beans and 3 handmade corn tortillas. The sauce was good, but a little sweet, but the fish was excellent. My gf ordered the alambre tacos and there were a bit of a disappointment. The chorizo and bacon overpowered the hanger steak and it just was very good. Our other friends ordered the pollo enchilada which the mole was a tad different than i am used to and super watery tasting... not the greatest. To finish the story, as we were being seated, one of the chairs had a nail sticking out and it punctured a hole in my gf finger... they did get us a band aide, but surprised they didn't replace the chair... maybe they didn't have any as this place is super small. Service was fair to slow, they were busy, but server never came by to check on us during the meal. Overall, this place is good, but nothing to write home about. read more

Very enjoyable relaxed and delicious. I went on Sunday evening and sat inside on a cold night. I didn't get the Alamo. Tacos because everyone eats they're totally awesome and I knew I would get the last few bites of my daughter's order. Service was very friendly and attentive the feelz (ambiance, I suppose but I don't wanna seem like I'm in that crowd) were very comfortable and inviting. Chips came with some odd dill g sauces which were good aside from an odd pumpkin habenero which was strangely good but not something I'd ask for. My shrimp enchilada was perfect- sauce very slightly tangy but delicious. And, of course, the last bite of my daughter's salmon taco was divine.
