    Menu (Breakfast)

They have menudo on the menu! I need to come back to try it! The chips and salsa are delicious! The salsa has a nice mild spice to it that is very pleasant and really kickstarts the palate for the rest of the meal. I ordered a fish taco and shrimp taco. The fish was fresh, flaky, and had a nice grilled flavor to it. The batter wasn't overpowering. The taco was very well balanced with the amount of pico and cabbage to fish. The shrimp was snappy and tasted fresh. Same fillings as the fish taco. Overall enjoyable. Of the two I preferred the fish taco and would come back for more!

Super wet burrito with red and green sauce

Tried this spot for lunch and had a great burrito! Food: 5/5 I got a super carne asada burrito wet with red and green sauce. The burrito was large, had a good amount of meat and I enjoyed the green and red sauce. Customer Service: 5/5 I ordered it take out, so there is not much to report on the customer service. However, the staff were very nice and they did offer to add extra salsa cups. Price: 3/5 The price was a little high in my opinion. I paid almost $19 for the burrito and there were no chips with the order. Ambiance: 3/5 [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is clean and well kept. It's great for a quick lunch or dinner. You order at the counter and seat yourself.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, a good experience ordering takeout from this restaurant. I'd come back.

Two item combo - chicken enchilada and chicken hard shell taco. Delicious!

Great food at a decent price with good service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Tucked in the back of a strip mall this has been a good place for a while.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Location on Bascom is good as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Chile Verde plate is a banger too.

Beef flautas with black beans, enchiladas suizas (1 chicken 1 beef) very delicious!

Everything was absolutely delicious and the service was outstanding. The chips and salsa are $2.95 but they are homemade and the salsa was fantastic. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Little ambiance to speak of but they do have booths.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had the house margaritas which were very big but needed more tequila and fresh lime juice. At about $15 each that is important! Very happy we stopped in for dinner!

This place was amazing. Food was hot , plenty of cheese in our burrito , everything was fresh [[HIGHLIGHT]]floor were clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's funny having service dog you start to notice how dirty some floors are just because you look down more often and [[HIGHLIGHT]]he got to lay on a nice clean cool floor being as it was a warm day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Friendly service and great portion size I got to take half my burrito home for tomorrow lunch I big plus for me .

These guys do a great job. Food is always yummy. The salsa is really good. The chili verde is the best.

As a regular I love their tacos and salsa. Food is great never oily but the service has gone down. I used to go regularly at least twice a week. Until an incident a few weeks ago. When I visited for dinner the server forgot to close my check. The next time I visited the manager belligerently accused me of not paying my bill. She yelled at me refused to serve me until I pulled up my bank statement and showed her that I did pay on the prior date. After realizing her mistake she served me with my food and gave me a complimentary coke but it didn't make up for the emotional distress of the confrontation so I don't see myself returning to this location. I rate this location two stars because of the tacos but the treatment was unacceptable.

    Carne asada burrito (grande $10.95)
    Jennifer H.

Mm... Carne asada burritos! It's been tough finding great Mexican food at affordable prices in the Bay Area. Pre and post inflation scaries. Dona Maria was a great find. The food is good - prices vary but for the burritos they are on par with most other places. For a $10.95 grande burrito you get a good sized tortilla stuffed full of rice, beans, meat, cheese, avocado, onions, and cilantro. I personally couldn't really taste the cheese though, so not sure if they skimped a bit there. The avocado was buried in the middle of the burrito but still present. There was a good amount of meat - maybe a 1:1:1 ratio of rice:beans:meat. For the area, this is a solid place to grab a burrito that will mostly fill you up. If you're really hungry, might be good to grab some sides too. I would come back again.

DISAPPOINTED! Grilled chicken deluxe, but there was VERY LITTLE to no chicken.
    Heidi F.

DISAPPOINTED! ordered the deluxe version of their grilled chicken burrito but very little to almost NO chicken , Loaded up with the cheaper fillings. If I wanted a rice and bean burrito I would have ordered one. The food is seasoned good, it's authentic, atmosphere: counter service with tables to eat inside or out, and it is clean. Average mom and pop Mexican walk in.

    Potato Taco Combination Plate (~$17).
    Greg W.

Rounding my stars up since I'd give Dona Maria a 4.5 star rating overall. Got the potato tacos combination plate (~$17) which comes with three potato tacos, Mexican rice, and beans. The potato tacos were fantastic. The shells were deep fried and crispy. The potatoes were both soft and had a nice mouthfeel. The fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese on top put the icing on the cake. The Mexican rice and beans could've been better. They weren't quite as flavorful as some of the other rice and beans I've had elsewhere. They weren't bad though. I wish the prices were cheaper. I do miss paying $2 for potato tacos, but with inflation it is what it is. I also wish they still provided free chips and salsa, but I get it too that nowadays certain luxuries are no more :-( Anyway, for the Bay Area, Dona Maria is pretty good quality Mexican food. It can be difficult finding a solid Mexican food joint, so I'm glad to have found this place. Eating out in general has gotten expensive so I can't fault them for being a bit more expensive than I'd prefer - at least not too much. I'll be back to try other options.

Service was bad, food was bad. Andales and taco rancho nuevo are way way better. Even taco bravo is better. No bueno.

We've tried their fish, carnitas, and birria tacos - all of which were amazing, though the birria and fish tacos were the clear standouts. The mango paired with the crispy fish is a true winner & you can't beat the ultimate comfort food of the birria taco. The presentation of the food is also stunning, with dishes served beautifully on black slate plates and mini cast-iron pans. I have to give a special shout-out to the chef: this is officially the only restaurant where I have actually finished the accompanying sides of refried beans and rice. They were absolutely outstanding! If you haven't been to Hercules yet, it is a must-visit. Don't miss out on their great drinks either--the hibiscus margarita is highly recommended!

Enjoyed the large tables, lights and ambiance. Would be a fun place for a group to get together. Now for the food - we were very happy with everything we ordered. We started with the queso fundido which was smaller than I expected but very good! For entrees we tried the quesabirria and fish tacos. The birria taco may have been my favorite bite! Delicious!! The enchiladas trio was also well executed. Tried the TJ Caesar Salad, the tamales and the chips and guac. The guac was another star, but the tamales were probably my next favorite bite. I would recommend trying 1 of each of the flavors. All were good and the sweet corn tamale was a surprise hit!! Would definitely come back here again!

The interior has a beautiful Tulum-inspired vibe that's modern, bright, and perfect for a date night or catching up with friends. The service was also excellent--everyone was welcoming and attentive throughout our visit. The food was fresh and the drinks were good, but nothing really stood out or made me want to come back for a full meal. It was also a bit pricey for what you get, especially considering the quality. With so many amazing and more authentic Mexican restaurants around the San Jose area, this one just didn't leave a lasting impression. That said, I'd definitely come back for appetizers and cocktails with a group of girlfriends. The ambiance and drinks make it a fun spot to hang out, even if I wouldn't choose it as my go-to for Mexican food.
