Baja Fish Taco
Eric H.

A decent Mexican place in Los Gatos that I usually make online orders for. I usually get the El Presidente Burrito and 2 Baja Fish Taco. The burrito on the outside is a bit messy, as it is covered with guac and shrimp. I usually just start eating the burrito without it and spread the guac and a piece of shrimp inside between bites. Their guac is really good! The fish tacos are also pretty good. Crispy and crunchy. I do wish they gave a second tortilla on the bottom, otherwise if I leave the taco alone too long it might start getting soggy and rip more easily.

Put avocado on wrong order. Didn't want to make good on it, charged me $3 anyway. Whatever happened to customer service? This place used to be good, but has gone downhill

Nice restaurant on the main Santa Cruz strip. It has a cozy backyard patio, and a smaller pet friendly patio area out front. It has been a long time staple in the area for many decades. Stopped by for dinner again recently and ordered... * Chips & guac -- Nice fresh tortilla chips. Guac was fresh but could have used more spice and tang. Congress with 3 different salsas... salsa fresca, green salsa and red salsa. * Enchiladas Verde -- Comes with 2 enchiladas stuffed with chicken, and a side of Spanish rice. Chicken was a little on the bland side. * Salmon Salad -- Grilled salmon was decent. Salad has a good variety of organic greens, cucumber, tomato, and bits of goat cheese and avocado with a light vinaigrette. Service was friendly enough. Food is decent, but nothing particularly crave worthy.

This place is why I wish Yelp offered half stars and it should have received a 2 1/2 from me. Now this place isn't bad but it's just very average. My burrito and bottled soda was $16. The burrito was also small. I have gotten way better, bigger and tastier burritos at my local Mexican market. The chicken tinga was good but just not great. I'm also not a fan of restaurants that only offwr cans or bottles and not a soda machine. Kinda cheap to me. Also no chips. If you're looking for good Mexican food you probably shouldn't come here. You can get so much better for cheaper elsewhere.

Welcoming Kind service team, beautiful interior and exterior, easy to follow menu, food brought out relatively quickly. Even the grilled chicken in the salad was perfectly made. There is something for everyone!

IMHO OMG, today I ate the best enchiladas evah!!! My friend and I both ordered the Andale Enchiladas with our choice of proteins. Our platters came out quickly and beautifully presented. The enchilada sauce was intriguing at first sight. It looked more watery and lighter in color, than I'm used to. However, this house-made ranchera sauce totally made the dish. It was wonderfully tasty and flavorful! I loved it!!! Alexander was our genuinely friendly and efficient server! We dined in the open-aired and covered back patio. I look forward to returning again very soon! However, I wish we were given a complimentary basket of chips and salsa, as most Mexican restaurants do...

First of all let me start this off stating that the servers and staff are friendly and excellent. I am sure the cooks are too, however we did not meet them. This place was given to me as a recommendation m y a friend of mine. This friend had gone there years ago and thought it was excellent. Something unfortunately has changed, at least when we went there the other night. All 3 of us buds went into downtown Los Gatos to eat here, as one was staying in Los Gatos and we wanted to make it more convenient for him. WE sat in the back patio. So it was ok, but there were a ton of flies lingering around and flying, that was not the greatest, but there is not much you can do. Only one server for about 10-12 tables, and that was terrible. She was overworked and stressed. She smiled even though she was overworked in this. She seemed a bit scattered. Perhaps they should have 2-3 servers out there. So lets get to the food and drinks. Um well, not really great. Sadly my friends Ice Tea he complained tasted like soap :( So perhaps the glasses were not complete in rinsing. Lets now move on to my food that I ordered shall we. I ordered the carnitas, when they got to the table with the corn tortillas they were stale, the tortillas. The girl was nice enough to replace them with flour..which were great. The Carnitas were a bit tough and the portion was not very much, at least on my plate. My friend ordered the same thing and his was much more. Perhaps they figured since I was a huskier guy I needed the diet portion :) Nonetheless, it just was not the best. Sad to say, since we were expecting more. I am speechless. Seems everywhere you go now, either people and the venues either have lower quality due to all the covid stuff or not training staff well. Not sure what it is. Also could have been they were all overworked. I always try to give a fair review. However seems more and more reviews are lacking being stellar in presentations and food and service. I would recommend staffing more with servers. Having your assistants that bring out the food be quicker and more aware of issues before presenting. I cannot comment on the cooks, since I am sure they are doing the very best they can with the situations. Would I go back? Probably not given the whole evening and situation. One of us out of 3 enjoyed their meal.

Andale... to the bathroom. I rarely give restaurants two stars, and I feel bad because the service, atmosphere, and location are all great. But, I wouldn't eat there again. We didn't want to pay for chips and salsa so we got the nachos. Who has the best in Los Gatos? They're NOTchos. These were fine, though the cheese wasn't melted. The cheese for the fundido was not melted either: you have to andale before it coagulates. Maybe these guys didn't pay their gas bill. They might want to up the wattage of the hair dryer they're using. The not-so-fundido came with soyriso, corn tortillas, and bread that were dry. The potatoes were dry, too. Like maybe they don't even use oil? But super dry and completely dependent on the two small sauces: one, unpleasantly smoky, the other completely void of flavor. We didn't even finish them they were so dry. We took a bag of them home. Not to eat, but to stick in our iPhones in them if we accidentally drop them in water. Sucks that there are no soda refills given how dry and flavorless the food. I had to rely on my tiny $13 margarita. My mediocre El Presidente Burrito should have built that wall. To keep me from eating there. As I ate the seemingly undercooked, flavorless shrimp I told my wife to tell the doctor that's what got me. I started imagining Bubba from Forrest Gump. You can have shrimp salmonella, shrimp giardia, shrimp listeria, shrimp botulism, shrimp e. Coli... just kidding, just kidding. To be clear, the restaurant has passed all health regulations, and I'm just joking. (But make sure this wasn't my last review, just in case)

On my most recent trip, our reservation unexpectedly grew by a few people, and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. We really appreciated how hard they worked to make it happen! The cocktails are next level creative, delicious, and unlike anything you'll find at your average bar. My absolute favorite is the Bidi Bidi Bom Bom shot! And of course, we always order the caviar because... why not? The vibe here is everything. Whether it's girls' night, date night, or a celebration, there's always an amazing crowd. The DJ knows exactly how to read the room and keeps everyone singing along/ dancing with banger after banger. One night there was even a live saxophonist who absolutely stole the show, it made the whole experience feel so special! I also love the Renaissance inspired artwork by the entrance featuring icons like Drake, 2Pac, Sade, and more. It's such a cool touch and adds to the atmosphere. Second Story never misses, and I already can't wait for my next night out here!

No big deal, as I wanted the bar anyway, but something others should keep in mind. The cocktail list is plentiful and intriguing. I tend to avoid tequila, so that eliminated a good chunk of the options. I went with Rose Colored Lenses, which was fantastic, and decently sized. Presentation was beautiful. My friend had All a Dream, also very good. The wine offerings are minimal, this is very much a cocktail or champagne type of place, with caviar being the primary food service. Speaking of service, the bartender was excellent, both in his mixology and demeanor. It took awhile to get the drinks, but I assume that was due to the complexity of the cocktails, paired with having just opened the doors a few min earlier. Two notes: 1. The barstools were a little too low, imo. I don't normally pay much attention to that detail, but these were uncomfortably low for me, even with my long torso, I was hyper aware of my posture. So maybe that's actually a good thing 2. Other patrons were rolling in shortly behind me, so there is probably an early crowd when they first open, then a late night group that appreciates the 2am closing time. Interior is beautiful, and you can use the steps up to the 2nd floor either from N Santa Cruz or the rear parking lot off W Main. More substantial food options are a mere few steps across the hall at Heritage.

While seating is limited, you can sit at the bar, a booth, a table, or the patio, which allows pretty views of people returning their safeway carts and middle schoolers. That's a dangling participle: They don't return their middle schoolers, but they probably wish they could. Anyway, the Americanized-Mexican menu is heavy on burgers and bar appetizers, which were hit and miss. The French fries were unusually hard and crisp. The smashburgers looked better than they tasted, but that's not too insulting: they look outstanding. On two separate burgers the bland buns fell apart, so hopefully they'll get better options in future. If they won't toast the bun for me next time, I'll bring a lighter. The guac was good (my wife and I are picky) but the "queso" is queso-tionable. It's not the authentic, pale, chile-flecked queso you might expect from even Chipotle, but bright orange school snack bar nacho cheese. The elote salad was not very elotey and it was flavorless (my wife asked for lime, which helped juice it up). The beer list is impressive. They offer rotating slush drinks. I loved the strawberry margarita ($11 or $8 happy hour) but returned the mojito. It tasted like fake mint. It was a nojito.

During my time there, I observed a male manager or supervisor interacting with staff in a way that came across as rude, disrespectful, and belittling. Witnessing an employee being spoken to that way in front of guests created an uncomfortable atmosphere and reflected poorly on the overall experience. What made the situation even more disappointing was that after speaking to staff in this manner, the manager spent what appeared to be an extended period of time outside the front of the restaurant talking on his cellphone instead of being present on the floor. I believe employees deserve to be treated with respect, especially in front of guests. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as leadership sets the tone for both the workplace and the guest experience.
