I was looking forward to going to Andale since my husband told me it was one of his favorite Mexican places to eat. However, we were really disappointed by our experience today. My husband, I and my newborn baby walked into the restaurant to eat in the back patio area since that's what my husband had done for many years, and considering our newborn baby could get fussy anytime, we wanted to be outside so as to not potentially interrupt other guests' meals. According to my husband who has been going there for more than twenty years, he used to place his order at the front counter inside and then bring the food to either the patio out back or his seat inside. So, we went directly to a back patio table and then returned up front to check in with a waiter as to how to order. When we asked the waiter (host?) about placing an order, he was extremely rude to my husband. The waiter told us that we ignored him on our way in, and that we cannot eat in the back patio. My husband apologized many times and explained that we were not aware that there was now a host or that we now needed to be seated by this host. . Honestly, I did not see any host welcoming us when we entered. We immediately left the restaurant right after that very unpleasant interaction. I have to say how the food tastes is one thing, but how long-time customers are treated is another. My husband was visibly shaken from how he was addressed. October 21, 2025. My wife and I had lunch at Andale on October 15, 2025. The bill came to $60.09. Recognizing that the food and service were both below average, we added an $8.50 tip. However, when the charge appeared on my account, it was for $76.58, which is 27.3% higher than the original bill amount. I contacted the restaurant today to express my concern about this significant overcharge. Unfortunately, the manager responded in a very aggressive manner, accusing me of fabricating the situation and falsely claiming that I had intentionally added such a large tip. This is unacceptable, and I demand a sincere apology from the restaurant management for their unprofessional and accusatory behavior. Furthermore, I request the immediate reimbursement of the incorrect total of $76.58 that was charged to my account. Flavorful food! The meat is charred just right, still juicy and flavorful. The nachos with beef is a huge portion. Shrimp and steak tacos had large size shrimps and the spinach salad came with a very tasty dressing, it was a light dressing but super tasty with a light hint of zest. The carnitas plate was amazing as well. Sangria was $10 for a huge glass. Overall fantastic spot right in the heart of downtown Los Gatos right next to the Apple Store. read more

Was walking around late one Saturday evening on Santa Cruz Ave enjoying the weather and people watching. Decided to get a bite and stopped by Andale which I had surprisingly not been to before. They have a full bar and I got a margarita which was good. I got the Tijuana style short rib tacos and guac which were both OK. Also got to taste the carnitas plate which was middle of the road. Overall, it was a satisfactory meal, nothing amazing. The wait staff were nice and friendly. I was surprised to read on a poster that they have 16k employees across 7 countries. In the past, I used to eat at the Palo Alto Andale at least once a week. I loved it and was excited to try the Andale in Los Gatos. Unfortunately, I had a very different experience at the Los Gatos location. In Los Gatos, we walked up to the front podium and was met with a very rushed Miguel who took our name and then ran away. We then walked outside and asked if we could sit at an open table. Once seated, we ordered and then asked for a side of Pico de Gallo and was told that a very small portion would be $1.50! The food was good, though the rice was cold and the portions smaller than I remembered. The real issue was when Miguel asked us to leave (we had just paid about ten minutes before) since he "needed the table." I was shocked! Even though this place is a chain, a definite yes if you're looking for Mexican dining in Los Gatos for your first time. Andale has been around Los Gatos for quite a while now. There are two spots but I'm referring to the location with the backyard seating area. They used to have a gigantic menu but it felt like the menu has shrank due to COVID times but maybe that's me when they didn't have the giant menu behind the cashier to look at. They serve your typical burritos, nachos, and plates but each category has many choices & meats to choose from. From street tacos to even chimichangas & super quesadillas, you'll find something more than what you'd typically see at other Mexican chains. We ordered the Mexican Tortilla soup, the three Mexican tacos, the carnitas plate, the chipotle burrito, and super nachos to share. Trying a bit of everything, I noticed that everything was a little on the less salty side--which is actually fine with me since I'm trying to control my salt intake. It wasn't bland but it wasn't noticeably salty if you know what I mean. The Mexican tacos consisted of carne asada, carnitas, and Chile verde and all of them were excellent with the side of salsa to pour on top. The chipotle burrito had this interesting chipotle sauce that I couldn't decipher what it was but wow I wanted more of that sauce to bring home if I could. The tortilla soup was great with some avocado and mozzarella cheese inside alongside chicken and strips of tortilla. Service here was great and quick, and definitely felt comfortable during my visit. The inside of the restaurant is open and limited capacity nowadays but if you can choose to eat in the backyard, please eat out there as it's really nice to sit out and enjoy your meal next to their nice plant decor. Price wise is a bit on the pricier side for Mexican food but quality is improved (and maybe slightly healthier?) than traditional taquerias. I've been to Andale most likely 5 times already over the several years and it has always been met my expectation for great Mexican food. It's definitely better than your Chipotle but of course won't be as amazing as your typical food truck or traditional taqueria but if you're in the downtown Los Gatos, Andale is worth a stop to try. My recommendation for this place will be a yes for those who are craving some great quality Mexican food while exploring Los Gatos. read more

This place used to be good value and quality but it is going downhill fast...I understand the inflation pressure probably caused the pricing to go up, which is OK with me, but at the same time one by one this happened: -They stopped their frequent buyer program, where you used to earn pts to get stuff. -They now add a 99-cent online processing fee. -The Burrito is smaller for sure than in the past (while raising pricing mind you) -They stopped serving a small green side salad with their burrito as an option, now only chips -They now limit you to one tiny serving of salsa per burrito and charge like $1 for more. I went to the Andale take out today. Katie took my order absolutely no customer service at all. I wish I didn't leave her a tip. I ordered two orders of chips and SALSA. I asked her for containers to put my salsa in and she gave me three. I asked her if I could have more because I ordered and paid for two orders of chips and salsa. Note this establishment has drastically changed its business model. Before you'd seat yourself & stand in line, but now you need to wait to be seated. The menu is dramatically different too. No more salsa bar. I was also super bummed they no longer offer their vegetarian burrito, even though it is still on their online menu on their website. Anyhow, the kitchen got our order wrong. My son specifically asked for the Tinga Vegan burrito but they gave him a bean burrito loaded with cheese which is worrisome because not only is he vegan, but dairy upsets his stomach. Really great brunch items now on the menu. It's hard to find sit down brunch places in downtown Los Gatos. The omelette and the scramble were both delicious. The scramble comes with choice of meat, potatoes, roasted veggies, creamy refried beans, roasted poblano pepper and avocado. Ask for the extra salsas. The coffee was out of this world. My favorite Mexican restaurant and has been for years. I typically go to the one across the street as I usually take it to go, but I have been to this one many times as well. The food is just as good when you take it to go as when you eat it there, and it is even fresh tasting the next day. Everything I've had here has been fresh, flavorful, and a nice healthier option for Mexican food. The food is never greasy and it doesn't leave you feeling bad like a lot of heavier foods can. If you find yourself in downtown Los Gatos, for the day and your hungry for not just some good Mexican food but some outstanding authentic Mexican food then Andale, is your next "must have". I don't toss out a 5 review lightly the primary reason Andale gets this is their Beans which they cook in Chicken broth and garlic. When I say I do not like Mexican beans I mean I don't like them period refried or otherwise. It's a texture thing for me. Until.......I tried these beans they were firm not mushy and were delicious you can taste the chicken broth and the garlic. Presentation your plate will not be overwhelmed with rice and beans. Delicious, unique Mexicali food. My favorite part of this restaurant is the jackfruit meat substitute they use. It is marinated and slightly sweet, with a nice texture. To me, it tastes almost like very well prepared shrimp, which is perfect for Mexicali food. I tried it on the tostaditos and they were delicious. The papas bravas were also good, with excellent sauces. I haven't had those flavors anywhere else, so I was happy. We tried the beef tacos, which were also lovely. The beef was very tender and nicely seasoned. The tortillas were delicious. Otherwise, the tacos were simple, as they should be. Selection was lacking on drinks, soft and hard. The interior was also quite loud, despite being mostly empty, so we sat outside. Otherwise, there were no problems. We would definitely return. read more

A friend and I went in last Friday around 7pm. They were not even remotely full but weren't seating people because the servers were telling the host not to. (Whaaat?) The host (who is very kind, extremely hard-working, and has amazing, big hair!) by the way, is the reason this place gets two stars - he actually gets 10 stars from me since he was the only person who really seemed to care that things were going well for the customers. All of the servers and staff otherwise ignored everyone 90% of the time. When we were seated, we asked for chips and salsa. He had to remind the server twice more to get the chips and salsa. She forgot 3 times and it was finally brought to us about 30 seconds before our entrees. Then they brought me the wrong entree. I politely mentioned that it was not the right food and she acknowledged and brought me what I asked for. The first drink (mezcal strawberry margarita) was delicious. The second tasted like they poured a bottle of mixer into a warm party cup and called it a day. I asked for them to please remove it from my tab because I couldn't drink it (the server seemed shocked that I would ask this, but she reluctantly agreed to take it off the tab). The prices here are not small (I paid $53 including tip (yes, I tipped her!) for a salad, chips and a drink), so I would really expect a lot more. My friend and I will never come here again, and will stick with the Andele Kitchen across the street. At least there you can get the right food without feeling like you're asking for too much. The crunchy tacos were great and the enchiladas were flavorful. I would recommend the chips and salsa appetizer as well. The only downfall was the service. We were seated outside and had to ask for the heaters to be turned on three times. The bus boy finally turned it on but it ran out of propane and shut off a couple minutes later. We also asked for more salsa to put on our food but the food server never returned and our food got cold while we waited. Overall the food was good and the prices weren't too expensive. Our server was kind and knowledgeable about the menu. The only so much frustrating point was we ordered something off of a daily menu that was with things we understood were appetisers, and the item we ordered apparently takes very long to cook and so came out after we had our meals. And also the wait time on our meals was a bit long so we were quite hungry by the time everything came out. I guess the moral of the story is ask your server how long the appetisers will take to be prepared. read more

Had dinner here 2 nights ago (Saturday) right before going to the St. Mary's county fair (carnival) around the corner. This used to be a favorite of mine that was always a place we could find something delicious. My 2 favorite dishes were always the Mesquite Chicken Salad and the Fish Tacos. No longer. Salsa and chips was 1/4 the size as before and the salsas just weren't that good. No heat. The mesquite chicken salad was greasy (and not due to the salad dressing). The chicken used to be mesquite grilled white breast meat -- my salad was all greasy rotisserie-style dark meat. It looked like they bought a Safeway chicken and just threw a few chunks on top of greasy greens. Maybe they ran out? But they should have let me know so that I could order something else. It also didn't seem fresh, but maybe that was because my greens were swimming in grease. The peanut "salsa" used to be amazing.....it was a greasy puree of peanut butter. Eeek. My husband had 2 chili rellenos with rice and beans. The rice was overcooked. The beans where white and mushy. Note: they weren't supposed to be mushy or refried. He ate one and packed the other to take home. Waitress forgot our side of potatoes with aioli and just didn't check back with us after our main dishes arrived to see if everything was OK. We weren't asked if we'd like dessert. We go home and then my husband woke up at 2:30AM running to the bathroom. I won't shock you with the gory details, but he was quite sick. We'd eaten the same things all day long until dinner, so it was clearly the meal. Probably the cheese or crema that was on his rellenos. We tossed the leftovers into the trash. We won't be returning. I've been coming to this place for over 5 years and recently ate there after covid to see how they are. Oh my god, it's sad to see this place now. The food prices are way up, there is no longer "self seating" and the great salsa bar is gone. Now I can understand the salsa bar with covid but now when you ask for extra salsa for your food, chips, etc.... they are charging for the salsa?? What? Yah, I was charged $3.50 for some Pico de Gallo for my chips, and another $1.00 for the green salsa. Plus if you order anything with beef is an extra $2.00 for that. So what used to be a decent price for lunch should now be rated as 3 $$$ signs, not 2 $$. First time trying this place and although the food was decent it is not authentic. Small portion size of rice and beans. I had a two entre platter of an enchilada and crispy chicken taco. Taste was very much in comparison to Pollo Loco. Every restaurant I've been to, where you sit down to eat, brings you chips and salsa. Nothing at this place. This has been a favorite spot of ours for years. Today we reserved a table on the patio for a work get together. We wanted to get a few apps and have everyone be able to pay for drinks on their own, which we have done multiple times in the past. The manager informed us that this could absolutely not be done. He said the bar does not have a cash register and that we could only split the bill a maximum of 2 ways...really ? He was probably the most unaccommodating manager and seemed not to really care about the business (he was eating his lunch so maybe he just didn't want to be bothered). The waiter said it would be fine but the manager insisted that it was out of his control and because the owners absolutely won't allow it...again really? Oh and we were the ON LY people in the restaurant at the time as it was 3PM. The waiter was awesome and we actually ended it up having a great get together despite the inflexibility of the management. But as I walked out I noticed a women buying a couple of drinks from the bar...which we were told we could not do! Sadly I think this will be our last time there. The reason for two stars is how we were charged: 1) Ordered a non-alcoholic Heineken off the menu $4 (charged $5) 2) Ordered a Cabernet $10 (charged $12) 3) Selected an 18% tip and (charged 25%) We brought #1 and #2 up with the waiter. He corrected #1 and as far as #2 said they no longer had the wine we ordered so they gave us the other $12 one they now carried. "Okay?" If it were me, I would have let the customer know that we no longer carry the wine you ordered, what we have is this, and we'll match the price of what you originally ordered... Server returns and said he spoke to the manager and corrected the Heineken charge, as well as took $2 off of the wine. When we get back to the car, and take a look at the actual receipt, that's when we discovered all the mischarges. Returned and let the manager know that what they did is dishonest. Sat outside, great ambiance and because we arrived a bit early services offered us chips and salsa prior to ordering and them opening. My partner ordered the shrimp tacos and, at the waitress' suggestion, I got the torta (with carnitas.) The shrimp tacos were great, but the torta was the star of the show--meat was tender and juicy, the sauces on the sandwich complemented it well, and the bread had a crispy exterior and soft interior. It's cozy with a slight adobe feel to it.The burritos are big and the quesadillas are good because the cheese is fresh and the grill is clean they cook them in! The old location outgrew itself about 12 years ago and expanded coupled with opening across the street! It's good for small groups and a loud date! Its really busy, packed and popular! Food was awful. Ordered their "Supremo" burrito. Not exaggerating...it just had rice, beans and tofu. No guac, no crema, no salsa, no cheese. At $14 a pop, either this place is a scam or the kitchen staff have a tough time understanding what the ingredients. Likewise, the nachos had no guac and the pico de gallo likely came out if a can Truly awful and disappointing. So much for trying to support a local restaurant. read more

As I always say, how can you tell if a place is good? When the Line stays consistently long. Stopped by my friends place (Redemption in L.G.) and asked him where's a good place to eat? His response was 2 doors down at Andale Mexican Restaurant. When wifey and I walked in I noted the loooooooong line, I almost turned around and left but something in my head told me wait it out. The inside of the restaurant is whimsical with funny and unusual murals on the wall and day of the dead heads here and there. They have plenty of seating both inside and out back. As I got in line I noted that they have a full bar, a fresh squeezed orange juice machine, beer, Mexican sodas and more. The menu is straight forward, everything is made fresh and they have locally sourced food and USDA choice meats. I ordered El Presidente (say that with me, El presidente) burrito and wifey got the fresh grilled fish burrito. After we placed our order I went to the Pico bar. I tried 3 different kinds, all 3 are excellent, super fresh with great flavor. My burrito was amazing from the first bite I could taste the grilled chicken then my mouth exploded with the taste of their homemade pico. It had fresh crisp flavors in every bite, don't even get me started on the shrimp, sooooo ggggoooood! To drink I had a horchata, honestly it was meh at best. The table service is great and they stay on top of cleaning the tables. As soon as a patron would leave the table was cleaned (hard to do considering how busy they are) Overall this is a great place and I definitely recommend giving them a try. read more
