Hidden in that Old Town Plaza that a lot of us tend to forget about because it's not on Del Mar. first of all, when you walk in, you can see that the dining area is extremely clean. This always is a good sign that the kitchen is also hopefully similarly clean. The waiter surprised us with a bonus appetizer, and we ordered chicken kebabs and a side tabouli salad that was delicious. Hummus was great and everything was super fresh. read more

Fresh Mediterranean Moroccan food right in this restaurant and can't wait to come back for more! The Mezza Platter was excellent and good for two people or even three. It was substantial and very satisfying for lunch. I am livid that I took my family here and the owner personally served us food while knowing his restaurant is operating under unsanitary conditions. Do not go to this restaurant. This was our first time at Andalusia Kitchen and I was blown away by this amazing meal. We started with the free carrot dip and pita bread. I'd never had anything like that it was so good. We dined on Saturday and two of the specials, chicken and olives with rice, and braised beef. We're rice snobs and this rice did not disappoint, and the cous cous was also tasty. The restaurant appears to be a one man show, so if you aren't greeted the minute you walk in please wait. The building itself was the old sheriffs office in Old Town San Clemente. We tried out Andalusia tonight and were delighted to find it was as good as the pictures look. We were too busy enjoying every morsel to take pictures. Service was perfect. There was only one person that we saw but he took great care of us. As soon as we sat down, he brought water and menus, a few minutes later he brought out warm pita bread and an amazing carrot dip. Yummy!!! We followed up with Tabouli and grape leaves. The tabouli was so delicious, lemony and fresh !!! Our main course was two different chicken kabobs. Both were excellent. My wife and I almost didn't eat at this restaurant. When we got to the restaurant the door was locked (even though the website said it was open) and the door had a number of restaurant labels pasted on it so we weren't sure we were even at the right place. But I was really in the mood for Mediterranean/Lebanese food so I called the telephone number and the gentleman running the restaurant answered and came to the door and opened it for us. Inside, the restaurant is very nice --- a pleasant primarily wood decor with green accents. The menu looked great too but the Moroccan dishes that were on it are only offered on Fridays and Saturdays --- and we were there on a Monday. So we decided to order the Mezza platter which had hummus, falafel, baba ganouj, tabouleh, and kibbeh (with ground meat and onion inside). All the items were superb --- really first-rate Lebanese food. Fresh ingredients that were well prepared and very filling. The mezze platter left my wife and me full. The platter came with a couple of baskets of freshly baked pita bread and a ground red dip. I don't know the name but it was delicious. I'll definitely return but next time on a Friday or Saturday so that I can try their Moroccan dishes. read more

Wow, what a difference a day makes last night we had some of the worst Mediterranean food ever and today we had some of the best Andalusia is hidden gem in old town San Clemente run by genuine Moroccan, who cooks with passion this is a don't miss for any Mediterranean food lovers. Apparently, they've been here for four years, but they only did takeout and only recently have they added table service. It's a quaint old building that used to be the San Clemente Police Department in jail so there's a lot of history tied to it. read more

I have walked by Andalusia Kitchen hoping to try local Mediterranean food as posted on Yelp but alas, their door seemed to be closed.... Until last night. I couldn't help but step in and immediately felt as if I was transported to another time and place this is nostalgic, exudes history, culture, and magic. After meeting and speaking with the owner, Mark, I learned that the restaurant has recently opened for dine in and is truly one of a kind - offering Mediterranean cuisine with Moroccan expertise. Mark took care of us that night with warm and genuine hospitality. In addition, Dee, our server, is a super sweet soul and I enjoyed our conversations throughout the night. Mark served us his house made roasted carrot dip puréed with savory spices accompanied by pita bread - first time I've tried anything like this and it was delicious with a touch of heat! We ordered the Mezza Platter with hummus, falafel, grape leaves, tabouleh, and kibbeh. Everything was delightful, especially the crispy falafel and kibbeh! The Kofta Kabob plate came with our choice of fried and salad - super tasty. The Lamp Chop was great and served with rice pilaf, hummus, and salad. We ended the night with traditional and coconut Baklava - incredibly flaky and divine. Never knew this place was here and just tried it today. They opened for dine in a few months ago and I can't believe I haven't seen it before. This review is only about Delivery orders. In a word, don't! I love the food there. I've successfully ordered delivery twice and unsuccessfully 3 times. The last time, even though my order was canceled after I was notified that the food was on its way, I was still charged for food (the charge is being disputed). I even called the restaurant and they had no explanation why it was canceled because they said it was picked up by the delivery person. I'm not sure the cause of the problem but if I order there in the future, I'll be sure to pick it up myself. read more

For our family celebration for my husband's birthday, he requested Mediterranean food. The are a couple of choices in San Clemente and I decided on somewhere we hadn't tried tried, Andalusia Kitchen. The menu looked good and they had great reviews. I contacted the owner, Mark and told him I had 7 people and what we liked and he suggested the Mezza Platter, a mixed grill, pita and baklava. . I called him 1/2 hour before pick up to let him know I was coming. The food was ready when I got there and he helped load it into our car. My family raved about the food. Mezza platter was beautifully laid out. The falafel was very flavor and always my favorite. The kababs I chose were steak, chicken and shawarma which came on a bed of rice. There was also a salad with shredded cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers with a lemony dressing. The baklava was fresh and delicious. Very tender and moist. They were bite sized pieces which made it so easy to eat. Generous portion and I was able to send food home with my kids. Amazing. I can't wait to try Moroccan dishes. The Lemon Chicken and olives over couscous sounds delicious. Thanks Mark for helping make our family celebration a resounding success. Welp, no pictures because we kept diving into the exciting-looking food and clearing the plates before it would occur to me to point my phone at them. Highlights were the carrot dip, chicken shawarma (some of the best I've ever had, and I've had a lot!), feta cheese rolls, pastilla (chicken-filled meat pie), Turkish coffee, baklava, and the plate of cold salads and sides which came as part of the "six course" meal. If it's your first time, I definitely recommend having at least one person at the table order the six course so that everyone can have a bite or two of the different dishes and get an overview. We stood there for 5 minutes wandering around shouting HELLO to a half-darkened restaurant at 1:30 on a Tuesday before going next door for Peruvian which was delightful. Food was amazing!! We are from out of town and came here for our first time. We asked the owner for recommendations and got the lamb chop, and the beef and chicken kabob combo. They were all very delicious, freshly made, and well-portioned. He also let us try their pita + carrot dip (sorry I didn't catch the name). We found out piling a lot of the dip on the pita made it extra delicious. We also got to try the falafel and pickled turnips- highly recommend! I appreciated the very clean restaurant and bathrooms too. We ended our meal with Turkish coffee and baklava and it was the perfect end to a wonderful meal.
