Tried this spot for the first time last Friday and was so impressed with the service and food. It was so delicious, we ordered the branzino and the lamb and it was so delicious. Service was great and even though it was a very busy evening we were still well looked after. Even seeing the owner waiting and cleaning tables made us love this place even more. Make sure you book, it fills up and gets busy there were a few people waiting to get in as they have a timeframe for how long you can have the table for to make more space for people to eat. Our party of 4 had a fantastic meal here. It is definitely worth doing the Supper Club for $60/pp just based on the pricing of each of the dishes, but it does end up being a lot of food. The only portions that were really large were the mains but all of us were feeling pretty full already after the medium dishes came out. We ordered the 5 dips (which is unlimited with the supper club - least favorite was the spinach feta and best were the muhammara and date labneh), corn ribs, layered potatoes, peaches & burrata, beef tagine croquettes, fried chicken, lamb shank, honey and feta cheesecake, and sticky toffee pudding. Honestly, there wasn't one bad outlier and all of us enjoyed everything we ordered. Service was attentive and efficient. I loved the food and casual atmosphere and will definitely return to try other menu items. We were seated upstairs and noticed that when we went downstairs to leave after finishing up dinner it was much cooler downstairs, which probably would have made for a more comfortable dining experience with the recent heatwave. This was the perfect place for our girl dinner! Mayfield whips up the most inventive, delicious, and beautiful looking plates! Their food is rooted in Levantine cuisine which comes from the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East. Everything was too too good! We got the Baba Ganoush with Bread, Batata Harra Thousand Layered Potatoes, and Grilled Cabbage. The Baba Ganoush is a an eggplant puree with crushed pistachios. Such a gorgeous savory dip. Their house-made bread is a must-get to pair! Super fluffy and toasted to perfection. The Batata Harra Thousand Layered Potatoes were my personal favorite. The potatoes were sooo crispy and the sauce (made of labneh yogurt, chili, and lemon) that it came with had me licking up very last bit. Lastly, don't sleep on their Grilled Cabbage! Been coming here for almost 4 years now, it is an awesome modern take on some middle eastern food but also a fusion of other Europeanand Mediterranean food. Service is always great, cocktails are on point (especially the espresso martinis), and food is top notch and bonus points for a lot of it being plamt based while also having great protein options. It is one of the few places where I feel like I am healthy after leaving and having a ton of food. I like staying in the beautiful patio but the maon room is fine too. The overall set up and layout of these place is really nice. You get a great view of the area so we enjoyed a nice view while we were there. Service was a tad slow, it took us awhile to have our orders taken but the server was really nice. Ordered the cardamom and rose latte, the chicken skewers and the lamb wrap. The food was just ok. The skewer plate really needed some sauce because there was a light coating of sauce that the chicken sat on, and then you get a salad that didn't haven't any kind of dressing making the plate overall taste really dry. What an adorable place! From the decor you would never be able to tell this is spectacular Mediterranean food. It's pink. It's vibey and they have great cocktails. Get the white melon Negroni and thank me later. For starters, we got all the dips and GIANT chunks of challah bread. The red pepper walnut dip was my favorite. Then we got the borekh (a sort of filo dough samosa) and the fried eggplant. You want this. The green zhoug sauce is amazing. We also got the zatar spiced fried chicken and the lamb shank. We were a group of 4 so for $60 a person we could enjoy the Supper Club meal where we get all the starting dips, and 2 of each of all the meal sizes. It was plenty of food for the 4 of us. We even had some leftovers to take home. The cocktails were all very delicious. I had a dessert wine because I wanted something sweet to drink. My family enjoyed the cocktails because they preferred how they weren't as sweet as other cocktails. I liked all the dips and the challah was absolutely amazing. My favorite dip was the hummus. I really liked the snap peas (which is saying something because normally I can't stand the taste of them) but they were seasoned very well. The fried eggplant was definitely my favorite veggie dish of the night. I highly recommend that dish. Some other memorable dishes we had were the lamb meatballs (the sauce it came with was delicious) and the steak. For dessert, I recommend the sticky bread pudding. Honestly just order more challah. -Twice Cooked Sweet Potatoes: who knew that sweet potatoes could be this creamy and still look like sweet potato strips? I was not expecting how delicious these would be. Definitely on the sweet side (like a sweet potato casserole without the brown sugar and walnut topping) -Cauliflower Shawarma: expect a whole cauliflower with tasty sauce drizzled all over! Tried the shakshuka yesterday and it was AMAZING! The sauce was soooo delicious...I'm still dreaming about it :) The poached eggs were a bit overcooked but overall, this dish was so well done. The muhammara was also really yummy. However, both of us found the challah bread to be an odd accompaniment. I think they used to serve the dips with fresh pita, which was a much better fit imo for the dips. All in all, we really enjoyed our meal and I can't wait to come back again for brunch. read more

Mayfield was a lot of fun. We came in on a Sunday afternoon, just before the full kitchen closed for afternoon snacks. The place wasn't too packed, and we had the most awesome server, a young fella (can't remember his name because.... I'll get to that later) that supposedly has a strong squat game in the gym. Great server, great energy, and gave us some fantastic cocktail suggestions. Shout out to the Baba Ghanoush and avo toast. I don't know what was in the "noush", but it was probably one of the best I had. But that avo toast..... uniquely crunchy with all the right veggie fixins, this was the first time I felt like my avo toast had some actual substance. If you can only get one thing, get the avo toast.... but only if you have broad palate. Boring traditionalists may not get it...... but hey, stay boring. This style is clearly for the elevated with personalities far above a bumper sticker. Now.... the cocktails. Oh the cocktails! (and the reason I can't remember our server's name.... not because I drank a lot, but because i don't actually drink a lot). First, after a long drive, I had to start with the espresso martini. Great espresso base, so this one went down fast and easy, like my first college freshman hookup (Ivy was her name.... wow... that was 20 years ago, and I still remember!). The second was strictly recommended by our squat commando server: the Aztec Old Fashioned. You've GOTTA see the picture I included. It was like playing with a lightsaber... if it was a cocktail. Fun to look at, fun to sip, this one is for the bold and brave. If you wear socks to bed, drink this, and you'll man up and kick that practice. Absolutely loved it. Huge shout to the Turkish Delight cocktail. I generally don't like gin, but good lord, when the wife ordered this, I was actually jelly.... FANTASTIC cocktail. Mayfield is a beautiful restaurant in San Juan Capistrano, by the Los Rios historical district. We came for brunch and were seated at one of the open windows overlooking the street. Our server was fantastic and I loved that she took our orders from outside the restaurant, on the other side of our open window. They specialize in Mediterranean food. My husband has been looking for a good shakshuka and their version of the eggs in a fiery tomato stew ($19) was exactly what he wanted! I chose the Big Sabich Sando ($19), with falafel and grilled eggplant, which was good. It's a little on the pricey side, but the setting is quite lovely. I came here with my friend and husband for a holiday dinner. My husband and I have been to Mayfield before and really wanted our friend to experience it as well. The service was great! He took time to explain the menu and the Supper Club option to us, which we decided to do so we could try a variety of dishes. With the Supper Club, you receive all of the dips with veggies and challah bread, plus your selections of two small plates, one medium plate, two large plates, and a dessert. All of the dips were great and the challah was absolutely delicious and the veggies were so fresh. The date labneh was especially unique and paired beautifully with the challah, and both the baba ganoush and hummus also stood out as favorites. For the small plates, we chose the Moroccan carrots and the snap peas. Both were good, but the snap peas really surprised us. It was such a fresh, bright, and flavorful dish. For the medium plate, we ordered the mussels. They were good, but we felt the quality of the mussels could have been better. One of the bread slices served with them was also a little too charred with about half of it being burnt to the point of being inedible. For the large plates, we had the za'atar fried chicken and the hanger steak. Unfortunately, we were all disappointed with the quality of the meats, especially the steak. The pieces were mostly end cuts, which made it feel more like leftovers than a composed dish. The steak pieces were tough, gamey-smelling, and a couple were inedible. My friend had to spit out a piece of the steak because of how inedible it was. Overall, the large plates fell short for us this visit and we were beyond disappointed. For dessert, we had the bread pudding, which was delicious. It's made with their challah bread and the flavors of cardamom and orange blossom were wonderful. The only small downside was that the scoop of ice cream was placed on top of the hot ramekin, so it melted quite a bit before we started eating, but it still tasted great. Although this experience didn't quite live up to our previous visit, especially when it came to the chicken and steak, the service was excellent, some of the dishes were still enjoyable. We were disappointed in the large plates. I left feeling conflicted if I'm interested in returning based on the quality of the proteins we chose. read more

Mayfield is a gem in San Juan Capistrano. It is a small but beautifully set up restaurant with great lighting and cool, efficient weight staff. They have a medium size, seasonal menu with well sourced produce, and meats in the true Mediterranean style. Cocktails and drink options are excellent. It is not a big location so you have to plan to come to dinner. Prices are on the standard to slightly high side for the area, but appropriate. They have the menu divided into small, medium and large plates which is great because then you can try many things but beware of the prices because it'll catch up with you when the bill comes although we all had more than one drink and we ate very. We had such a great brunch at Mayfield in San Juan. We ordered the French Toast, the Morning Person, the Moroccan, the Baba Ganoush, and a couple of matcha lattes. Everything tasted fresh and full of flavor. The French Toast was crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, and not too sweet, which I really liked. The Morning Person plate felt super fresh and balanced, simple ingredients done really well. The Moroccan was cozy and packed with warm spices, really comforting. The Baba Ganoush was a surprise favorite. It was super creamy with a nice smoky flavor, and the carrots/sides it came with was perfect. The matcha lattes were great too, smooth and not overly sweet, which is hard to find. The space is bright and laid-back, and the staff were really friendly without being overbearing. Came to this restaurant to celebrate a birthday and it was a success! This restaurant is a twist on North African/ Mediterranean inspired dishes. Lots of unique flavors and great pairings. We started off with cocktails and really enjoyed the Turkish delight drink. Prices for bottle of wines were super reasonable, and you can also buy by the glass. Our server was super helpful, attentive and helped break down the menu. The 5 dips with focaccia was divine. Highly recommend trying all 5 vs buying each individually. I also had the pleasure of trying the pork belly dish and it was divine! It was paired with baked beans, and pork grinds with a nice spicy after taste. Birthday desserts are not provided but we still tried the stick toffee cake. It's made out of dates and served with vanilla ice cream. My first time coming here. It was a nice little spot in old mission of San Juan. The place was filled with people. We were first seated by the little bar table facing out to the street, but later moved as the sun got into our eyes. We still enjoyed our stay there for lunch. I tried some of her meat, and it was pretty tasty with fresh herbs of mint and it tasted like there was a hint of lime in there. It was seasoned well. A little pink on the inside of the meat. Not sure if that's how it's supposed to be cooked in a Mediterranean dish, but majority of the meat was cooked medium well. Her dish came with a side of the herb za'atar fries along with ketchup and their house ranch. All in all, it was still a 10/10 for the both of us. I had ordered the ZFC (Za'atar Fried Chicken Sandwich). The sandwich is a brioche bun, and in it was their house ranch, pickles, aleppo oil, middle eastern slaw and saw some herb of mint, served with a side of their herb za'atar fries. It was VERY delicious! Crispy and juicy was how the chicken was cooked, coated in their Mediterranean batter of za'atar spices. Together with how they dressed it up came together SO well. How I've waited to go here and so glad we came during our Christmas holiday party. We were 11 total so reservations made in advance for sure. For dinner they have what you call "supper club style" and for $60 a person you select various plates from small, medium to large. There was SO much food and every dish was just a wow factor with flavor and you could tell so much love was put into the food.
