I raised a family in San Ramon and we had a favorite Thai restaurant which was next to Safeway but they are gone. So....i had the Thai Fried rice and Pad Thai with chicken. WOW!!! Had a good meal at Andaman Thai. Tried the Tom Kha chicken soup, which had great flavor, though the chicken pieces were quite large for a soup and a bit awkward to eat. The curry puff was okay, but could've used a bit more depth in flavor. That said, the soft shell crab was really good and so was the cashew nut chicken--both well-cooked and flavorful. Finally got a chance to go!! Waiter recommended Tofu Madness since we liked spicy stuff and were eating vegetarian. Just from the look I could tell that this was unlike any other tofu I've ever eaten (I've had ALOT of Thai food). The tofu resembled paneer and tasted very nice and juicy and you could not tell that it was tofu and not paneer. And this was one of the rare dishes where black pepper didn't overpower the dish and you could still taste other flavors within. Also got Tofu Drunken Noodle with this and they were very nice as well. I got and LOVED the Lychee Iced Tea and sipped it every time I felt the tofu spice hitting for the nice cooling effect. Tried three different dishes. Everything on the menu looked good. Prices were reasonable, service was pleasant and very attentive. All the dishes were flavorful and there is a hot sauce caddy if you want to add some heat or some sour to your dish. The place is small, but tables turned over regularly and there was a decent flow. The food came out really fast. They were also doing a lot of togo orders. Overall it was a nice meal, good size portions for a fair price. If you want something totally innovative and new, this might not be the place, but if you are craving Thai food and are in the area, this will probably do the trick. read more

Andaman is one of our local Thai places. They are family owned and on the San Ramon Marketplace. Today we had iced chai coffee which we like better than chai tea. We order items with minimal heat when possible. The Papaya salad had a nice flavor without being too spicy. The lemongrass chicken, nicely prepared, had the standard Thai spices we like. Servers are also friendly and helpful. Inside the restaurant is nicely laid out and pleasant. Today at noon the restaurant was packed and some were using the outside tables. Came here on a packed Friday night at the San Ramon location. Parking can be tough but we found it was easier to find a spot on the Trader Joe's side of the lot. We had a group of 3 and ordered a bunch of food to share. Even though it was busy, our server was very attentive and took the time to explain the menu to us. The portions are no joke, we were barely able to finish everything. Here is what we got: Pineapple Fried Rice: Definitely try this if you come here. It comes served in a real pineapple which is a nice touch and tastes amazing. Yellow Chicken Curry: This was so so good. They use dark meat chicken so it was super juicy and tender, not dry at all. Drunken Noodle with Beef: Solid flavor and good amount of beef. Fried Calamari: Crispy and a good starter. Best Thai place I've had in the tri valley area! We ordered so much stuff and yet finished it all. Soft shell crab, satay chicken, Tom kha, green curry, and goong krieter. It was all super good. The tom kha could have used more veggies perhaps. The green curry was my favorite and I think the green curry is the best way to measure a Thai restaurant's level. Service was great as well. Hidden gem! Tucked away in the busy parking lot of TJ's there's an amazing spot for incredible Thai food! Andaman is the place to go! To be honest, we're Thai rookies and played it safe and everything we ordered was a 10/10! The only downside is it's a small place and with the lunch crowd it was VERY loud inside. But still worth it! We ordered meat crispy rolls and Satay Chicken for starters and strongly recommend both! Main course were the Pad Thai with chicken and pumpkin curry. I highly recommend this location as there is no parking fee. Plenty of parking at the back right outside of the entrance. Also walkable to TJ in just a minute. Went an hour before closing on a Friday night, and the place was busssy, however we only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table. The restaurant is very clean and has plenty of inside and outdoor seating. The menu is easy to go through and we ended up ordering Roti and curry Papaya salad Pad see eew with chicken Grilled whole fish Mango sticky rice The food was delicious and nicely presented definitely coming back here again to try more of their food. Service was good too! I ordered a sprite at the beginning of my meal but I never ended up getting it but I wasn't bummed out about it cause I'm not even supposed to be drinking sugar so I took it as a sign lol, but it was nothing to fret over, and they didn't charge me for it either. I tried Andaman for the first time yesterday for lunch and overall enjoyed the meal. I came with 3 other friends and we all ordered separate dishes. The restaurant is not too big and could seat maybe 6-8 tables. The decor is nice and clean and the ambiance was casual. The service was a bit slow and they kept forgetting items that we asked for so we did need to remind them several times before getting all the items we needed. We came during lunch and it was semi busy with 70% of the tables full. I ordered a tofu pad thai and my friend ordered the thai basil and Yen Ta Fo noodle soup. I enjoyed the pad thai but it was a bit sweet for my palate. The serving size was quite large and can probably be shared between two people with smaller appetites. My friend enjoyed her noodle soup and said it had good flavor but the calamari rings were overcooked and rubbery. The serving size was large and could be shared between two. For desert we got the mango sticky rice and fried bananas with ice cream. Both were delicious and amazing. I loved the mango sticky rice. The sticky rice was very well made and had perfect texture and creamy sweetness for the coconut milk. Overall decent Thai place and would probably be back again sometime. read more

Pricey thai food, but the food was quality and had tremendous flavor! Some of the best pad sew ew we've had recently and I really enjoyed their pumpkin curry, which was served in a hallowed out japanese squash. I asked them to pack up the squash in addition to our leftovers and roasted it when I got home to add to the curry, thought there was waaay more pumpkin than curry by the time all was said and done. We also tried their pla rad prik which was decent enough, but we're particular about this dish and would be a skip for us in the future. We'd come back though if we're in the area. I ordered the yellow curry. It was good. The curry was flavorful and creamy. The chicken was moist and tender. They were generous with the amount of chicken given; which was nice. The cucumber salad was good. A few things I noticed, but nothing too bad: My table wasn't completely clean before they sat me down, but that's okay. My food came out quickly, which was nice considering they weren't busy. The whole time I was eating my meal, no one ever asked if everything was okay, although I heard them ask other tables. They did come by once to refill my water without me needing to ask. They cleared the dishes from my table, but didn't ask if I wanted to order dessert or anything else. Every part of this place- minus the understandable wait for a table and food- was Heaven! There are a plethora of vegetarian friendly dishes here that I honestly liked just as much as non-veggie dishes. The tofu surprised everyone at my table with how well marinated and crispy it was. Didn't even taste like tofu if I'm being honest! For meat dishes, we ordered the spicy pork belly and a drunken noodle with chicken. The pork belly is now a must order every time I return: it was so crispy and flavorful. I also need to note that the spice level, while spicy, is very flavorful spice, and not punchy painful spice. The menus are all these little books with thick pages that make it feel expensive and upscale despite reasonable ($18ish per plate) prices. My only comment on ambiance was that the night we went, the lights were SO bright that we actively noticed it during our meal. This might be a one off based on whoever controls the lights though. It was too small & noisy at San Ramon location but they do have outside tables; just too chilly for me to eat outside. We started with some fresh spring rolls w/shrimp; good appetizer. And we shared pumpkin curry w/tofu, drunken noodles w/shrimp and Khua King Kai. I liked the pumpkin curry the best over my rice. Met a friend for dinner and we were so busy catching up forgot to take pics of food, but the flavors were so good that I still needed to leave a review. They have a few locations but this one was in the Market Place in San Ramon. Plenty of parking. And attentive service without being pushy. Place was small and intimate but clean and modern. My friend had one of the noodle soups that was spicy but not overwhelmingly so. She said it was warm and comforting. I had on of the pan friend noodles with a sweeter sauce and veggies and beef and it was such a great combo of flavors and textures. We also had shrimp rolls with peanut sauce which was fresh and yummy. We ran around $60 so manageable. I absolutely love Thai food and Andaman to no surprise, killed it! Everything from the papaya salad which was very crunchy, appetizing and fresh, to what I got, which was the Pad Prik King with chicken. It's so hard to not like Thai food when Thai cuisine combines almost literally all tastes of the palate ranging from sweet, to sour, to spicy, to savory flavors all in one dish. The sauce was absolutely delicious and the meat was cut thin so it wasn't too tough. The peppers and all the veggies worked so well with the dish and each mouthful encompassed a spoonful of rice as well. The rice was texture was exactly like how I like it as well. Came on a Sunday night with a group of 4 and no reservations. We were offered a table that was tucked in the back and near the bathrooms. Despite this, service was good and we were checked on often. We ordered: - Pra Ram with shrimp. Shrimp is an additional $6 charge which isn't anywhere on the menu. This dish a must if you love peanut sauce like I do. Not sure the shrimp was worth such a high extra charge since I got like 5 shrimps but it was tasty. This does NOT come with a side of rice. - basil eggplant. This was good and flavorful. It's a small place and kind of tucked away in the Market Place but we were still able to be seated immediately on a Saturday afternoon. We ended up ordering the cashew nut chicken and the garlic chicken. Note that the dishes do not come with rice, you need to order that separately. We really enjoyed the cashew nut chicken, a bit of a crunch outside but still soft inside and full of flavor! The garlic chicken was okay, the meat was flavorful but a bit dry. Discovered this gem on Yelp. Andaman Thai becomes my 2nd favorite restaurant in the Bay. For Appetizers, we ordered Mango Salad, Curry Puffs and Fried crab. The latter two items were awesome, however Mango Salad was nice but too much onions overpowered the taste. Please take this as a constructive feedback AT folks. For Mains we got the Khua King Kai a curry dish made with minced chicken, Gang Som Sai Bua a yellow curry made with lotus stem, bamboo shoots and shrimp. Both these items are available on Secret Menu. The Gang Som Sai Bua is a super spicy dish and I wouldn't recommend this for folks with lower spice tolerance. Both these dishes were BOMB!! For the dessert, we got the Fried Icecream which were tasty and didn't feel heavy due to the batter not being extra thick. The Lychee Tea was amazing too. I loved the concept used by this restaurant where the quantities are moderate and you get to try so many things due to this. Overall this was a sumptuous meal with a homely ambiance. Love the menu layout as well, they have a simple menu with images of some of their dishes. I got myself the Khua King Kai and Thai ice tea. If you like spicy, the khua king kai is delicious, has a nice flavor profile with tons of heat. Not sure if it was the spiciness but the coconut rice to me tasted fairly mild and wished there was more coconut punch to it. I started with the curry puff, fried calamari, and satay chicken -- all three appetizers were flavorful and well-prepared.
