Small and family run Thai restaurant. Wanted to find something close to home that was fairly priced. Appears to be family centric, so a few people working but food came out relatively fast. Walked in on a Sunday at 12pm with no wait. Food wise, we ordered the cashew beef, chicken pad se yew, and the beef noodle soup. All were great. Cashew beef was tender, plenty of vegetables, and sauce is savory/tart that works great with the white rice. Pad se yew, noodles were cooked well with some bite and sauce matches what you expect for a pad se yew. Beef noodle soup was the surprise for me. Was balanced, subtle spicy without being too much, and hit a spot I needed a day after going out with friends. Parking can be difficult as it's in a popular shppping mall. We paid roughly $50 for 3 items and tip. Portions are big enough to take food home. Will add this to our list of places to rotate. read more

This review is specifically about the front-of-house service, not the kitchen. When I ordered a dish without fish sauce, I had to repeat the request, and the server reacted with visible irritation instead of simply confirming it. The bigger issue was with my friend's beef dish. It didn't arrive even after every other dish at the table had been served. When we asked about it, we were told repeatedly that it was "coming," with no explanation and no apology for the wait. At one point, the server asked if we wanted to cancel it instead of addressing the delay. When it finally arrived, it was chicken, not beef. When my friend pointed out the mistake, she insisted that's what we'd ordered, which we firmly disputed. Rather than resolving it, she seemed more interested in getting us to leave than fixing the order. We ended up canceling the dish and left. Good food can only carry a restaurant so far. Customer service is a core part of the dining experience, and what we encountered was dismissive, unprofessional, and completely lacking in accountability. A simple apology or effort to correct the mistake would have gone a long way, but instead we were met with irritation and pushback. Absolutely TERRIBLE SERVICE AND abusive environment!! Do not go to or support this restaurant!! We came in last month in July and came in at 8:25pm. As soon as we walked in the server said, "we are close at 9pm!" We were SHOCKED by her rude behavior!! we proceeded to sit down and as soon as she dropped the menu's she said, "are you ready to order?" Of course we're not ready. She came back about two minutes later and said "are you ready?" We proceeded to order Tom Kha Soup with prawns. She abruptly brought us the soup with CHICKEN. I had to flag her down to tell her that she brought us the wrong food. She looked angry and put it back in me saying, "oh now you want prawns??" Yes, lady, we ordered prawns. She aggressively toll my bowl of soup out of my hands and took my guests bowl, too! Again, I was shocked and I told this angry server that she needs to calm down and STOP being so aggressive! She argued back saying she is just trying to get the prawns. What a joke!! She finally brought the prawns with the soup along with to-go containers! Then, as I was trying to secure the lid on my soup that was in the to-go container, it spilled all over me because the lid didn't fit, both her and the other served just ignored me as I was covered in soup!! What a nightmare!!! Now that my soup is all over the ground they didn't even offer to make another one so we could take it to go!! Review is based on take out. I was craving beef pad kee mao so I decided to give this spot a try since it's close to my work. About a 10 minute wait which isn't bad at all. The lady in the front was super sweet and friendly with me. Parking can be tough during lunch hours. Couple patrons dining in while I waited. I have to rate the dish 3/5. Most drunken noodles I've had was more on a the redder side and a bit sweet. Along with red bell peppers so this was a big switch up. Beef was tender but the pepper flakes and seeds were offsetting. I like the beef to noodle ratio. It just didn't have the flavor of pad kee mao that Id hope for. I would like to come back and maybe try their other dishes. read more

I am beyond upset writing this. I've been coming to this restaurant for years, but tonight's experience completely ruined my appetite and honestly makes me never want to come back. We walked through the door at exactly 8:30 PM. Mind you, they don't close until 9:00PM. Yet, the absolute second my sister stepped inside, they literally flipped the sign to "We're Closed" right in our faces. How incredibly rude and inconsiderate can you be? It didn't stop there. The moment we were seated, they immediately started pressuring and rushing us to order. We hadn't even had a chance to breathe, let alone look at the menu! It's wild to me that after years of supporting this business, the customer service is still this abysmal. Look, the food here is great, and I truly wanted to keep supporting them. But the toxic, unwelcoming attitude we just received was the final straw. If you hate your customers that much an hour before closing, please get some help or retrain your staff. can never go wrong with Thai food for dinner ! this place was very comfortable and homey inside. we went about 2 hours before closing time and were immediately seated and served, so service was on par. we got the pineapple fried rice, basil chili catfish, and pad kee mow, and I would have to say the pineapple fried rice was my favorite ! they were all super delicious and kept me satisfied. tip: raisins are one of the toppings added into the fried rice, which threw me off a bit since that's the first time I've ever seen something like that so if you don't like raisins in your rice, they will happily leave it out for you if you ask. we wouldn't have noticed if we didn't read carefully what's in it in the menu. read more

Wow, if you want to feel unwelcomed, Thai Basil Express is the place to go! I've been here several times over the years (pre-Covid) and was looking forward to picking up takeout from an old favorite. After ordering, they asked me to leave - seriously. It was cold outside, and there was only one chair (literally ONE) for waiting, which was occupied, so I left like they said. Thankfully the restaurant is in Ulferts Center, so there were a bunch of stores to walk around in. When I returned to Thai Basil, I was mindful to step out of the way of service people and stood in the corner because I could see that they were busy. The restaurant was disorganized and unclean because it was small and packed to the brim (ie, like water pitchers were situated on top of the beverage refrigerator). No one smiled. The workers seemed annoyed and unhappy I came back to check on my food because, by standing in the corner, I was still blocking them from something. I found myself apologizing a lot because of how they talked to me to get out of their way. Once my takeout was ready, I couldn't run out of the restaurant fast enough. And I have never felt like that ever! Also, the food was lacking flavor and portion was small for the price. With so many Asian restaurants in Dublin, I will be taking my business to one where I get warmer service and more flavorful food. read more

This was a cute little restaurant with friendly service, nice decor, and reasonable prices. We came in for lunch and the place was full, with customers waiting outside for take out or a table. The space is small, so large parties wouldn't be too comfortable in here, and walking between the seats and tables aren't too easy as well. There were only 2 people working the front of house so it took a bit of time to get necessities and our orders. The meals were delicious, and had great portion sizes to share. I was a big fan of their green bean chicken dish, that had curry spice and a sweet coconut flavor to finish. I also ordered the seafood basil chili, which was plentiful with all kids of meat, but I was quite disappointed with them using imitation crab as well how oily it was. For as long as I can remember, Thai Basil Express occupied that small corner of Ulferts, establishing themselves as a Thai staple for Tri-Valley residents over the years. While I've created and shared many fond memories with this restaurant, even my affinity for its nostalgia could not save its recent degradation of quality. I came here to catch up with a friend today, and the experience was just underwhelming. The Thai iced tea was standard and probably the best part of the meal. My friend ordered the spicy Basil eggplant which was really mild at best (contrary to what she ordered) and lacked the pungency typical of basil. My papaya salad was just decent, but the shrimp that came atop was neither generous nor fresh. Though I'm all for a smelly fish sauce, I don't carry the same enthusiasm for smelly fish. And, in this case, the fish sauce could not mask the sharp odor nor taste from the shrimp. The other components of the salad were good, though. The service was also subpar. When our server walked away after taking our orders, my friend and I continued conversation. Then, I heard, "hello?? HELLO?? Mild or spicy?" as the waitress shouted across the room. This type of service is kinda typical for this restaurant, but I'd always excuse it since the food was pretty good. It's really a shame because the food tastes good, but how good can it be if there are bugs in it? My parents ate here last night and brought home their leftovers for me, I was really looking forward to the eggplant, as I am pregnant and that's the size of my baby currently. Well I went to take a bite and noticed something that looked off about the eggplant. Well it was a bug. All nestled into the meat of the eggplant. And the bug looked just like the cockroaches in a place I lived temporarily in Oakland. I work in the restaurant industry currently, and restaurant staff absolutely need to be looking for signs of infestations, this is a serious health concern. I found it on the yelp, and turns out it's located in an all Asian shopping center out here in suburban Dublin. It's like a little Chinatown in the suburnbs with out all the traffic and parking problems. Located on the first floor, it's easy to find. I kept it simple and ordered Pad Thai, I know so common. Also ordered the Thai chicken wings or Angel wings as some call it. Stuffed wings with the bones taken out. The service was express fast and the food was very tasty. I'd maybe go with less bean sprouts in the Pad Thai, but that's just me. The 2 wings were like $12 bucks, I guess that's the going rate these days. It's been 2 years since I last reviewed this restaurant, but I've been a frequent and consistent customer for sure because I think they cook possibly the best Thai food in the Bay Area, so please be sure to visit them if you're in the area. Try it for yourself. My favorite is absolutely the green bean with chicken (ask for spicy) and their pad see ew. The green bean chicken is absolutely full of flavor - the spicy curry sauce goes super well with rice. The pad see ew is totally unbearable if you try to compare with what you'd get from other Thai restaurants. It has the best noodles - super wide and thin and they absorb the sweet savory flavor from the sauce, it's truly amazing. I also like their curry with Panang Curry (with any type of meat) as our go to. The curry sauce is savory, slightly thick, and is completely loaded with ingredients. Any of their fried rice is bomb too - bursting with flavor: sweet and savory from the use of fish sauce. Super good. To top it all off, the staff here is extremely nice. We haven't been to the Thai Basil express in quite a while, so we decided to order take out. We were excited and couldn't get home fast enough to dig in. First off the portions were half the size they used to be and the price has increased... getting less and paying more for it. Second, all our dishes were not good. The orange chicken was over cooked and dry. The house special fish was less than flavorful and the Pad Thai was just awful and mushy. So upset that this place had gone so far from what it used to be. I have eaten here once couple months ago, and was surprised how terrible the service was. I let it slide coz I went there early when they first opened during the day, maybe their worker is not ready to work. I tried to given it another shot today and wanna order a takeout in case their service is bad again so I don't feel forced to tip them for their horrible customer services. The lady I believe was the owner (based on the appearance, outfit and age) who handle my order. I had a couple questions related to allergies so I wanna clarify it while taking orders. And believe me if i can find answers in their menu I would never ask stupid questions to annoy anyone. The cashier lady did a terrible job explaining and given me attitude. So I just left and rather dine in somewhere else, I really don't deserve any of this. I don't know if the cashier lady was really the owner, if she is, then they must improve their customer service if they want any return customer. The food I would rate it 3.5/5, but due to my past two terrible experiences with them on customer service. A one star is the best I would rate this restaurant. "If you can't come by 9pm, don't order". I didn't even finish my request on my order, but the lady hang up my phone. That's rude! When I arrived the restaurant it was 8:53pm. A lady was mopping by the floor that was not even closing time yet. That was her on the phone. The floor was wet and bleach smell all over in the restaurant. They should not use the bleach when it's still business hours! The strong bleach smell made me sick. I told her that she hang up my phone because I wanted more spicy on my food.
