What a great find. Stumbled across this shop waiting for my knifes to be sharpened at the Farmers Market. I don't normally walk that far down, but had time to waste. The store associates were super friendly and helpful, and in no way intimidated by my bully breed (not they had any reason to be). Nowadays, as an animal empty nester, I spoil my grand-pet babies with special treats (carrot shaped toys for the rabbits, chews for the dog, cat toys for the kittens.) Andersen's offers a fantastic selection of every imaginable treat and grooming tool you could possibly need. The staff are so helpful and answer any questions you may have. I have been going to Andersen pet store for years. Just a good local small pet store. They seemed to give very good advice.

I have been very displeased with my recent experiences at Andersen's. I have been taking my dog for grooming and have never been charged a consistent fee FOR THE SAME SERVICE. I was first quoted $58, then was charged $60, next time was charged $65, then $68. I called and asked why. First he said they raised the fee since December. I asked... "they raise the fee a few dollars each month?" Then they said because my dog "bites" while they groom his rear area. I asked, "Did he bite anyone?" He said, "no." And I then wondered why this was not communicated to me beforehand. There is no transparency here, which makes me lose trust in them. I know what they mean about the "biting" because my dog does it to me too. He doesn't BITE. He just turned around and kind of bites the air but never my actual hands. It really doesn't make it much more challenging to brush him. After being a customer for 15+ years, I will not be returning. Toodle Loo Andersen's! read more

This is definitely a more "niche" pet store. It has been serving the area for decades and has a strong customer base. We were looking for two specialty pet foods. They did carry the cat food that we were looking for, but not the dog food. There are a lot of great specialty items for pets available at Andersen's! read more

We (my pooch and I) just had the best experience at Anderson's pet store. I've been here in the past a few times for nail trims but today we did the whole sha-bang!! A full grooming session. My baby is a toothless 16 year old chihuahua who can be quite a handful for some people. Right from the hand off I could tell Casey/Kasey was a total pro. Now I'll admit I'm a bit of a helicopter parent. I didn't want my Lucy to see me so I spied on the grooming session. I got emotional seeing how much attention and love Casey was giving my baby. So gentle and kind. The service here is truly next level. She didn't bark or snap because she was always reassured. Exceptional service, I also picked up some bone broth for Lucy (they have all the best food brands) A very sweet old school pet shop walking distance from my house. Great place to take your dog for a bath or grooming. Tucker has been there about three or four times for a bath and he always looks and smells so good when I pick him up. He is a medium size dog and they charge me $40 to wash him, trim his nails, clean his ears and express the you know what. I just hate that word, so I'm not saying it or writing it. Tips: - Take your pet for a nice little stroll up or down Honolulu first so he or she can mark their territory etc. - I like to tip the groomers at least 20%. - At pick up time it is helpful to bring help, so one person can run your dog out the front door so they can go relieve their bladder and not do it in the store. The other person can go to the register to pay. They take charge cards, so that's nice. - Call to make an appointment, but I have called at the last minute too. read more

For animals, I definitely recommend adopting from this pet shop! I have gotten hamsters and now pet rats from them. They are sold at decent prices and each time I have gotten animals from them they are so tame, docile, and so friendly! Even during the bonding process. They never bite or are nasty. Unlike when you go to petsmart/pet co. Etc. You can't really trust that the employees from these other companies are not abusing the animals therefore making them so tense and on the defense. I have dealt with hamsters for years and I would buy from them again from here when I am ready to jump back into that. It's nice to have a designated place to go to that you trust is worth your money and know is worth the investment as far as the animal. Prices could be better for equipment & toys. I think if they took a look on the internet and price match it would be more compelling to get my toys and pet decor from here. I go elsewhere for that stuff where its more reasonable. I grew up taking all of our dogs here to Anderson's, for grooming and their needs, so let's just say YEARS and years of experiences at the store, never quite like the one I experienced today! Do not take your dog here for any grooming service, if you love you dog like I love and over protect mine, I'm just warning anyone reading this . The 3 employees that were there working (actually they were all eating using grooming tables to eat off of...yuck) when I arrived for my dog's nail clipping were completely unprofessional. Communication was impossible as they spoke very little English. A woman snatched my little 8 pound dog out of my arms so fast it literally scared the poop out of her, right onto the floor! Not one of those "groomers" helped me find paper towels or anything...I grabbed a napkin there in sight...cleaned up the floor and was instructed by this woman to leave the room. Wait, what? I've never been booted out of the room there before...very rude! My dog was super scared, and for good reason! The woman held her while some large man who didn't look at all like he knew what he was doing, started clipping her nails. At one point they held a bag up seeming as if they were going to put it on her head! I watched through the glass door as my dog yelped a cry and saw they had cut her. Bleeding, ...omg..he put alum or something on it. When door opened and woman handed me my dog she said NOTHING about the blood on her paw. I was furious. I'll never go back. And if you care about your doggies you won't go there either! read more

We have been going there for years. Great friendly staff. Great selection on everything for pets. We picked up a half gallon of goats milk for our dog. It's was frozen but damaged on the bottom & accidentally dripped out inside the refrigerator. I called them, and they said bring it in & we'll replace it. So I did. That is super service. Wow....way to go Anderson's! I thought I'd give them one more chance after a terrible experience a few months ago with their groomers...and SURPRISE...They are still a crappy place to do business with! I was taught the customer is number one when I a service type of business. Well, not at Anderson's it's not. In fact, owner has little to no desire for his customers to be satisfied with service. My 9 lb dog, needed her nails trimmed and as I explained to the groomer to be careful this time because he cut her and she bled a lot last time he trimmed the nails, he shook his head and refused to do the job. Shocked, I found old man Anderson and explained what had just happened. He proceeded to go speak with his employee, comes back and says "nope, they won't do it"... What? So, he has no authority here? Are the groomers in charge? Isn't he El Heffe? Guess not. He told me if they don't want to do it he can't make them. Omg ...I was trying to salvage this experience and remained completely optimistic but it was useless. NEVER, again I say NEVER will I patronize that store for ANYTHING! Sadly, my family has been using Anderson's forever...but those days are over. I see how customers are valued now....NOT! Guess what ANDERSONS.. You suck! And your non English speaking crew in the back can go eat dog poop! Overrated and overpriced!!!! STAY AWAY We decided to support the local pet store vs Petco, etc .... by paying $100 for a Guinea Pig (we bought two) yes, $100 per Guinea pig!!! Surprise Surprise, after one month one of them had 3 babies. After reaching out to the owner for a refund he laughed and told us congratulations and he'll be more than happy to take those babies off our hands (wonder why). Bottom line, stay away and high price does not equal customer service. Sad and Pathetic. read more

My family has been coming to Anderson's for as long as I can remember. They're super helpful and always willing to order the special chinchilla food we want. Their selection on some things is a little slim, like they don't have a wide range of cat litter, but realistically that's fine. I've gotten multiple cat trees here that are super sturdy, and have both lasted multiple years without much deterioration My cats love them and scratch them constantly but they're not going to fall apart, like some cat trees I've seen from other stores. read more

this rating is for the groomer only. He's really nice and my dog has been going here for 7 years. Depending on services added or not the price changes slightly also if she's super matted or not. So the flux is not that much. My dog is a cockapoo and she's not easy to groom. They do a good job and she looks "herself" after the groom. I've had other groomers shave her down and I don't recognize my own dog. They are good with fluffy dogs. read more

Made multiple attempts to call and even DM'ed their facebook account. No response back. Ruined my vacation. read more

I was walking around Montrose with my basset hound on his birthday when it occurred to me that there might be a cute pet store in the neighborhood. I could've consulted Yelp, but instead I found a woman on the sidewalk and asked if there was a pet store around, in part because I wanted to announce to her that it was Duke's birthday. When she wished him happy birthday and directed me to Andersen's just down the road, I had to follow through and go look for a present. The second I walked into Andersen's Pet Shop, I saw two goofy greeting cards featuring basset hounds on their covers. I picked them up and decided this place was just up my alley. It was a huge space (with a huge parking lot, incidentally), with pet supplies for every animal friend in the family, though maybe especially for dogs. The layout was pretty intuitive, and Duke and I had a great time browsing the treats and toys. What he really wanted, though, was a new comfy dog bed to replace the old one he'd ruined by unstuffing, one green fluffball at a time. The dog beds were at the back of the store, stacked high up, well out of reach of the floor. I got help from a friendly guy named Joe, who tossed down a few beds that looked right for my dog. I let Duke choose his favorite: he curled up in the same one over and over again. It was one of the biggest beds available, a huge circular dog mattress without a separate cushion. It was reasonably priced, as things go, and Joe helped me take it to my car. We've now had it for almost a month, and I'd say it's improved not only Duke's life, but mine, as it's big enough for us both. Sometimes I cuddle him on his new dog bed, and he escapes from my arms and roosts on the couch, leaving me alone, a human half asleep on a dog bed. I have Andersen's to thank for all the degradation and pleasure I've received. read more

Crazy busy on a Saturday, but waited in line to buy a bone and get my free bully stick for checking in. The shop has some really nice bird feeders, fun cat houses, birds and standard pet supplies. My dog hated the bone, but the service was great and conveniently located in downtown Montrose. read more

I like supporting small local businesses, but when the prices are skyrocket high in comparison to even OTHER small local businesses, then that poises a huge problem. I came here a few months ago to buy Orijen dry dog food (puppy & grain free) for my beloved Yorkie because I wanted to switch his diet from Wellness. I prefer switching brands from time to time so that his health is not dependent on just one company (rather not put my eggs into one basket). Since it was kind of an impulse decision, I had not researched prices before purchasing the large 26? pound of dog food for almost $90 after tax. I was pretty shocked but assumed it should be the same price in most stores, especially since Orijen dog food is hard to find in chain stores, being such a good/healthy brand. Now that my dogs have finished the bag, I looked into buying Acana dry dog food (sister brand), which has a bit less protein, better for smaller dogs. This time around I've learned my lesson and called a couple stores beforehand to compare prices. And WOW. I called a pet store located in Burbank, and was quoted about $65 for a 28 pound bag of Acana Regionals Grassland dry dog food. I called Anderson's Pet Shop, and can you guess the price for the same 28 lb dog food? About $80. Look at the ridiculous $15 difference! For what?? Just because its 15 minutes closer drive? No thank you, I would rather drive an extra 15 minutes and explore new small businesses that deserve my $$. Wayyy overpriced. I don't even know why I would come back. Store itself is not very big, aisles are rather close together. Customer service was average. read more

This is our local family-owned pet store. We usually stop in to buy a medium feeder mouse ($2 + tax) for our snake. Things are cheap, but the staff is knowledgable and friendly and you don't have to wait for a delivery. Pets are welcome in the store. Great place, highly recommended. read more

So we bought a bunny for easter... hoping it would lay chocolate eggs like the cadbury bunny, but no success yet... But her nails are super long, so I called in and they said that they would cut her nails for $10. I brought Miss Jenkins in and they cut her nails pretty quick. We picked her up and went home and her nails still feel kinda long. Not sure why if they were just cut. Andersons seems like a nice place to go for your pet needs. The staff is semi-sweet. There was a man behind the counter that looked like he hated his life... but the ladies behind the counter were really nice. I would come back here if I need anything for our pet. Just hope they dont look like they hate their lives next time... lol! read more
