My oldest child is 16 and I dragged her to every portrait studio under the sun and was always disappointed with the photos: they looked like school pictures each and every time. Then we met Marla through one of her children. We met her at a park for photos of our three children and I have never witnessed someone so at ease with her clients, surroundings, and camera. When we met her in her studio to review the photos she had taken, we had such a hard time choosing which pictures to order: they were all beautiful and captured our children's personalities perfectly. We ordered more photos than we expected going in, but it was just so difficult to decide. She is always so gracious with sending us a few extra prints too, which says something about her customer service. I get the feeling that she looks at all of her clients as family members and gives her best every time. We had her take photos of the entire family a few years later and she continues to capture our children perfectly in photos. She is very flexible and accomodating with her time and camera. I have photos from both sessions hanging in a few rooms in our home and countless friends and acquaintances have remarked on the beautiful photos on our walls. These are all the work of Marla. When we were reviewing our photos before ordering we noticed there was a lot of editing done. There were touch ups that weren't needed and touch ups that were needed and were not applied. We used Katie as our wedding photographer. The referral path to get to her will bore you and won't…read moreadd much to this review, but let it be known that we are forever grateful! Katie was beyond our expectations! We were told that she is starting her photography career, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. We saw some of her work with family photography and immediately saw the potential. She arrived the day before the wedding and what a breath of fresh air. There was no pretentiousness, no "Well, I wouldn't do it that way" attitude. Instead, she listened to what we were looking for in a photographer, asked some questions to dig deeper in some areas (i.e. important family / friend photos, dancing photos, etc.), and then got a feel for the flow of the event (as it was really an all-day affair). The next day, she showed up early and was ready to rock. She did a phenomenal job of meandering throughout the crowd to get shots that we'll cherish for a lifetime. The wedding was at a lake-side resort in Northern Michigan (Chimney Corners, Frankfort) and Katie used her expertise to incorporate the lake and rustic surroundings. One minute she'd be taking a photo of our family, the next she'd be laying flat on the ground to get the perfect shot of our friends. At one point, she was laying in the middle of M-22 (a lovely road that winds through Northwest Michigan) to get a priceless shot of us walking down the road. We escaped the party and did a more private photo shoot with the bride/groom, leveraging the rustic exploits of the resort. She was never pushy. She knew where the good shots would be. She was always asking us for any feedback. It was reassuring to know we had a budding photography wizard at the helm. Wedding photography really comes down to one thing - the end product! It was delivered to us in LESS THAN THREE WEEKS! We plugged the thumb drive into our computer upon receipt and were immediately whisked back to our wedding day. The quality was immaculate. The photos looked like they were ready to be printed. She already touched them up, picked out the best photos, and provided them to us for immediate use. She even gave us good advice on what companies to use for printing photos for us and our families. If you are planning on having a wedding in Northern Michigan, or any other event where a professional photographer is needed, do yourself a favor and contact Katie Wind Photography.
