AKB is just what it says--a store with kitchen goodies and bath design. I was skeptical about how a tiny storefront in Andersonville, only blocks from my home and next to a storefront I spent a lot of time in when it was a knitting ship could have vanity stuff like I was looking for, but Yelp said they did so I suspended my disbelief. It all made sense when I found that they have a design area upstairs. Downstairs they have various kitchen items and gadgets. An appointment is required to talk about cabinetry and get some estimates. I met with Marnie, and she was fantastic. I had Opinions on what I did and did not want and she seemed pleased with that and that I had actually done the research on the cabinetry options she'd sent, so I came in knowing precisely which ones I wanted. It definitely made the appointment go more quickly since I already knew which door styles and colors I was interested in. She talked with me about some of the technical aspects (e.g., framed vs. frameless vanities, top mount vs. under mount sinks, etc.) and they had various examples on display. They also had most of the door styles to have a better idea of what they'd look like. For the bathroom in which the vanity would be installed, the options here were more than we wanted to spend. I'd like to consider an update for the main bathroom, though, and would look to AKB for that job. The companies they work with have really beautiful products. Honestly, it makes me want to do more remodeling (main bathroom! Kitchen!) because wandering around the showroom made me want everything! When I discovered a loose joint this month and contacted them, they responded immediately, looked at the issue, and had it fixed promptly. The AKB team is just top-notch. In late 2020, they redesigned two bathrooms and a kitchen for me. The end results were incredible! They were fun to work with, supportive along the entire process from design, manufacturing, and installation. And when there were elements involved that they did not sell (fixtures, appliances, etc.) they helped with referrals to others in the area that they had great working relationships with. I sold the condo they helped me re-design earlier this year, and I miss it everyday! I look forward to the day we renovate our house, just to work with the AKB team again. read more

I emailed them about a bath remodel and they responded by writing, "Unfortunately, this is not something we do as we do not sell floor or wall tiles and plumbing fixtures." I found this to be odd and told them I was also going to need a company to do a kitchen reno later this year and asked if they can't handle floor, wall tiles and plumbing, then how can they be a kitchen & bath company. They quickly responded with a detailed email about their process, which was great; however, it dawned on me why they didn't want to do my bath project. It was too small and they couldn't make enough money (or so they thought). That's fine, but they should've said that. In fact, they only responded with a detailed email because I told them about my kitchen project. They changed their tune once they learned I needed a kitchen reno. Now, I realize I'm going to need a full master bath reno and not a remodel as originally planned. And my kitchen project is still a go. I probably won't contact them again for either project because of their initial response. Another company responded by saying the bath remodel was too small of a project; however, they offered design services for the bath remodel and to put me in touch with their contractor. I won't go that route now because the project is greater than I originally thought, but their response made more sense to me. To say you don't sell tile, plumbing, etc., doesn't make sense for a kitchen and bath company. #smh read more

I can't say enough great things about Monica, Michelle and Ogi and the service we got at AKB! We did a total gut job kitchen reno tearing down two walls and completely relocating all our appliances, and I knew from beginning to end I was in good hands. I talked with a lot of companies and contractors about cabinets and their services, and AKB was so thoughtful, thorough, high quality, patient, I knew they were a fit. Other places were either selling me used car style, couldn't be bothered to talk through their process with me or were really unprofessional. Making such a big investment and doing my first reno I knew picking the right people and products were important and AKB delivered in all aspects. Michelle was incredibly helpful thinking through every inch of cabinet placement (which is monotonous!!) but she was so kind and went through SO many options with me. Monica is a terrific project manager and any little bump in the road with timing or questions on logistics of fitting sinks to countertops - she totally had me covered. From beginning to end everything went as well as possible, even with hiccups of delayed countertops, etc. I love the Merillac cabinets they steered me to and I ended up buying a lot of other items through them because I knew I could trust the quality (versus online or big box stores where it seemed like a crapshoot). I'm sure I paid a premium on some things, but overall the prices of cabinet pulls, counters, etc we're pretty competitive, but mostly I wanted the reliability and service of working with a small business that REALLY CARES and had my back 100%. And they referred me to my contractor Bill who was an absolute dream contractor (I talked to 5 - and he was a clear winner!). I can't say enough good things about him and the work he did, he made having my house torn a part as pleasant and organized and simple as possible. I was remodeling my kitchen and have a somewhat tricky layout to get right - a lot of space but strange layout. Decided to use AKB for the layout and design work to save money off a pay by the hour interior designer, but to get expert advice on layout that you don't get from a place that designs for free. I am so happy with my choice. I feel like the value of the work far exceeds what I paid. They have been very communicative and did a really great job with the design. I did consult with an interior designer for thoughts on light fixtures and backsplash, but that's an hour and a half of work vs 100 hours of work. So I get the interior designer tweaks to make it look beyond unique while having a very functional, high quality, and well designed layout for the kitchen. Highly recommend. read more

Don't visit Andersonville Kitchen & Bath if you expect attentive employees. The two employees in the second-floor​ showroom stayed glued to their computers and summarily ignored us as we perused the marble samples. I guess it wasn't important to them to see if we had any questions or if we could use any guidance. As we left, we told them to have a nice day -- partly to show them the politeness they neglected us, and partly to make sure we weren't invisible -- and we vowed never to return. read more

Wandered in here last weekend while on the hunt for a couple new bathroom vanities. Once inside we were half-heartedly greeted by two teenage girls sitting behind a table, faces planted in their phones/laptops (most-likely on facebook). They were dressed like a couple of sorority girls who had just rolled out of bed. I get it, it is Saturday but at least sit up straight in your chair when customers come in. i digress... When we told them that we were looking for bathroom vanities they said, "all of our bathroom stuff is in that room over there." And with a wave of her hand, she gestured in the general direction of a small corner room. It appears as though AKB only sell custom cabinet configurations, but I may be wrong because the two girls NEVER got up to see how we were doing and never once said the obligatory "let me know if you have any questions." I am not sure if these girls were the owner's nieces trying to make a few bucks on a Saturday, but they really need to step up their professionalism. read more

Although most reviews seem centered on their custom design services, Mom and I had fun browsing their well-edited cookware and accessories--a little pricey, maybe, but more unique than anything at a big box store. While they don't carry a large selection, we found bold, bright colors and clean, contemporary designs where form follows function. If you're cuckoo for cooking shops or a euro-influenced aesthetic, I'd recommend stopping by while you're in the area! read more

From the moment my wife and I walked into Andersonville Kitchen & Bath, we knew we were in the right place. We had explored a few other showrooms in the city that either featured questionable taste, questionable customer service, or a combination of both. We were instantly impressed with the clean, modern aesthetic of the AKB showroom and the friendly, knowledgeable service we received from Ogi and Michelle. While our kitchen remodel required a lot more decision-making than either of us realized, we were happy to have such trustworthy professionals helping us throughout the entire process. Trust me, I have done a kitchen remodel twice in 2 different homes in 3 years (it wasn't my original plan, I promise we're not that crazy) and ended up using AKB both times! We loved both our kitchens and loved working with this team! We researched, met with, and received quotes from all the reputable places in the Chicago-land area, AKB was the best service, the most knowledgeable people, the most cabinet options, and the most competitive prices far above and beyond the competition! I promise, you won't regret it, they rock the house!!! If you're interested, here are the nitty gritty details. Michelle and Ogi are a great tag team. They compliment each other well and are definitely the experts. It should be noted that we went in for our first appointment with nothing more than a very moderate budget and a rough sketch of the area of our new home that we were remodeling that would soon be (but was not yet) the kitchen, and said "what do you think we can do with this space?" From that initial meeting Michelle and Ogi measured, designed, gave us options, and measured again :). Michelle told me to start a Houzz account and share it with her so she could start seeing what we liked and give us options accordingly. Soon after we developed a wish list of things we would want in our dream kitchen. At the end of the month long process of meetings and designs, we had a final 3 options to choose from. 1 slightly above budget but with everything we could ever want in our dream kitchen (and this was a pretty low budget, Michelle was a miracle worker to get it as close as she did), 1 with some of the elements we wanted cut but in our budget, and 1 with less of our dream elements but still beautiful and under budget. They also have this amazing program that does like a digital image of what your kitchen will look like. It looks like a real photo! It's awesome during the decision process. All we had to do in the end was choose. Soon after, the cabinets were delivered, installed, and viola, we have our dream kitchen! Thank you Michelle and Ogi! Buyers Beware First let me say that I've never posted to yelp before, but I am an avid reader of the reviews, which is how I came across Andersonville Kitchen and Bath (AKB). As you will see the reviews paint a very positive rosy experience with AKB, but I will tell you that my experience was sub-par. From day one when I walked into their showroom, I felt that they did not take me or my project seriously. At that point, I should have walked out then, but being my first renovation/construction project, I was naive and too excited about getting my project off the ground and completed. My project was a desk in a small one bedroom Chicago condo. I work from home, so the purpose of this project was to provide more work/life balance regarding functionality of my space. I wanted it to be tasteful to go with my current kitchen cabinets and to be as functional as possible in my small dining room space. Anyone who lives in a small Chicago home knows that every inch of real estate counts. My expectations were clear and this was shared with AKB from day one. Warning: Don't just go on their design recommendations. Make sure you question everything - even the depths of the drawers and the size of the cabinets. Don't just go on the "flat" pictures that they show you. Make sure you ask to see the full function of the drawer or cabinet. I went to them because they were "design experts" and I'm not sure who would recommend a drawer for a desk that was only 1 inch deep, let alone 2 drawers that are the same. Or a cabinet designed for a printer to be placed in a sliding drawer that does not fit in the drawer, but this is what I received. Make sure you inspect everything; I would recommend rechecking their measurements at your home against their layouts. Speaking of the cabinets. What a mistake. I have Merillat in my kitchen, which is another reason that I sought out AKB since they offer this product in their showroom. However, when I went in to meet with them, they pitched me on a "high quality" and "custom" cabinets called Dura Supreme. What I should have heard was more money for less value because that's what I received. Don't let them up-sell you on Dura Supreme. For custom cabinets, they are a joke. They have many imperfections and even when you get replacement pieces (because you will), they will also have imperfections. At one point, the owner told me that my expectations were too high and I needed to reevaluate them, (which is only one of the comments that he made to me). That's the type of customer service that they provide. I have never been treated in such a disrespectful and condescending manner by a vendor in my personally or professionally. Until now I have never been threatened by a vendor (or owner of a company) that they would hang up on me, the paying customer, as I am trying to get my plight heard. Also I've never heard of a project where you pay for all the cabinets up front. Most places require half down and the remaining balance when they are installed, but AKB required that I pay for the cabinets in full or they would not order them. Again, being my first construction project, I agreed to pay in full. Keep in mind when you do this, you have no repercussion if needed. To look at my experience with a positive view, I would like to thank AKB for teaching me a lot of lessons on what NOT to do and what a POOR project partner looks like, which will help me to make better choices on my next project. Also while we are looking at positives, I was very nervous about hiring a contractor-- probably more so than working with AKB (little did I know that was the least of my concern). They recommended Nermin & Sons. Nermin has been wonderful to work with and has diligently and skillfully to resolve the issues that AKB created. My review pretty much echoes the previous two. I found Michelle and Augie to be exceptionally professional and helpful. (Such a remarkable change from the half-dead brainless zombies who pull a paycheck at the big-box retailers.) My life is hectic enough and both of them made my life so much easier when it came to finalizing the remodeling of my master bath. I very much appreciate their attention to detail and high levels of service. I could relax knowing that when it came to the tedious details they were on the case and ready to handle the minor inconveniences that always pop up on any job. When I decided to gut my bathroom, I stopped in at AKB with the hope of talking with someone about how and where to start. Despite my telling Michelle and Monica that I was not ready yet to pull the trigger, the spent considerable time with me, explaining the process. After that meeting, I didnt speak with any other designers! They were incredibly helpful in taking me through the planning process, so I knew what to expect. Michelle clearly heard my design imperatives and suggested the most beautiful tile. Having never undertaken a renovation project, they recommended a contractor, as well. Though we live nearby, we had never ventured into AKB's second floor showroom right on Clark Street. At AKB we found not only their stunning showroom, but also two of the best design and construction professionals we have ever met or had the privilege of working with. Ogi & Michelle were more than happy to facilitate our design vision, understand our needs and work with our budget. Before finding AKB, we had already sourced our cabinetry elsewhere, but Michelle and Ogi introduced us to an amazing contractor for the installation and finish work we needed. Ogi & Michelle stayed actively involved in every step of our cabinetry install, as well as the Cambria quartz countertop consultation, measurement and install. Talented designers with a network of incredible contractors, Ogi & Michelle were a godsend after what had started off being a difficult and disappointing renovation project before finding AKB. They helped us to the finish line, with Michelle finding and securing a rare marble for our backsplash, ultimately making our kitchen's design rival the many home interior magazine clippings we had accumulated over the years. Our vision has come to life, and AKB made it easy getting there. AKB will be designing and constructing our bathrooms when we're ready for our next phase of renovation. I recently worked with AKB to reface the cabinets and drawers in my kitchen. The experience was highly satisfactory. Everyone with whom I spoke was professional, knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. They discussed various options with me, they had full-size examples of most of the work on site so that I could see it and touch it and they sent me home with samples to compare finishes and colors. This made finding the correct choice very easy. We did run into a snag with the fabrication of the doors. There was a miscommunication or misunderstanding regarding the product and all of the doors came with lot-number markings that were very unattractive and the would be visible when the doors were open. AKB immediately acknowledged that this was a problem and was extremely helpful in getting the doors remade as quickly as possible, with no additional cost to me and without me needing to manage or motivate the progress. In an ideal situation, nothing would go wrong during a remodel but that is unlikely and so not a feasible requirement. But it is a reasonable expectation that vendors will take responsibility for and ownership of a problem and will fix it without hassle or argument. This isn't always the case but AKB proved themselves to be capable and reliable in these circumstances and I both respect and appreciate that. I would definitely do business with AKB in the future and would recommend them without any reservations. read more

We found Andersonville Kitchen and Bath (AKB) by driving through the neighborhood and what a lucky find! We now have a gorgeous, contemporary, loft-like kitchen with a unique recycled glass island counter, gorgeous quartz surround and sleek modern cabinets. The staff at AKB was extremely helpful when I was looking to do a master bath remodel. Michelle, Ogi, and Monica helped offer numerous suggestions of product selections from faucets to cabinets to mirrors, etc., and being able to come into the showroom to look at and touch samples made the selection process a lot easier. Also, being able to receive a rendering of what the bathroom would look like with a certain design and/or certain products was really helpful when finalizing some decisions. What a great resource to have in Andersonville. Lacking the time and energy to coordinate all of the details of our complete kitchen rehab, AKB plugged in right where we needed them. Working with our original design, they helped us make changes after an on-site visit and then saw the project through to completion. They ordered all of the materials, worked seamlessly with our contractors, coordinated delivery schedules, and went to bat for us when the counter install did not measure up to expectations. Andersonville Kitchen & Bath the Retail Storefront was supposed to be that neighborhood friendly low key mom and pop store in Andersonville. I went in there and bought the Flex Shower Caddy In Grey (I bought other things too but I went back to only return the shower caddy after my discovery). This particular grey shower caddy cost me $23.00 at (AKB) Andersonville Kitchen & Bath. Come to find out the same grey shower caddy sells online for $19.99 at Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Hayneedle. It even costs less at Wayfair.com. This shower caddy is also very slim and doesn't hold up your large shampoo bottles and is not safe around small children bec even if they can't reach, your stuff will gradually slide and fall off this flimsy shower caddy. I went back to the store today with my receipt and the lady at the register would not accept it back without it's original packaging. Let me explain, there was hardly any packaging. The packaging was a thin piece of cardboard label across that I discarded (ofcourse) upon hanging in the shower (but I still kept my receipt 5 days to be exact after I had purchased it). So, do not buy this product or any product from this store Andersonville Kitchen & Bath because they have a problem. The esthetics of their products are only "nice to look at." They are overpriced and their quality isn't great, hindsight. I felt like I was robbed. They got me with their "ORIGINAL PACKAGING REFUND SCHEME." They REFUSED TO ISSUE A FULL REFUND & REFUSED AN EXCHANGE of their own product. BUYERS BEWARE!! Just send it back in the trash. read more

We were shopping around for a new kitchen makeover and went to Home Depot, Lowes, & Ikea. Looked on the net and found Andersonville Kitchen & Bath close by our house. Made an appointment (although you don't really need one) and met Michelle & Augie. It was so great to have two people that really cared about what we were trying to do, instead of bored employees at mega stores. They took an interest in our concerns and bent over backwards to help us achieve our goal. They have great suggestions & are very knowledgeable at their craft. Even 3 to 4 phonecalls a day from us didn't deter them. Their products are top notch and the choices were unbelievable. Our kitchen is spectacular and we have Michelle & Augie to thank for that. My husband and I were looking to update our bathroom vanity, sink and faucet. Even though we did not have a huge budget, Ogi was amazing to work with. He gave us suggestions on the design but did not pressure us. He also recommended a great contractor (who did good work quickly and efficiently for a reasonable price), and put us in touch with the fixtures vendor (where we got a great looking, affordable faucet). Also, Ogi was so helpful in coordinating between us and the contractor, and he answered all of our emails within a span of a few hours (even the ones I sent after work hours). We replaced our kitchen and 2 bathroom counters with quartz countertops. Fabulous, I love them! First of all, Michelle, the manager was so helpful to us trying to pick them out. We got the exact color we wanted. We took our time and were never rushed. The installers (Select Surfaces) were the best crew you would ever want! 4 experienced young men came in and installed, we were worried about a seam and they did a fantastic job! We used Andersonville to remodel our 25-year old kitchen. The design process was seamless, as they worked with our ideas and our budget. They added value with their expertise. We went with their recommended tile company and contractor. As with any major remodel project there are going to be some bumps and you have to stay on top of the project and ask questions. The workers doing the construction were great, and Ogi was responsive to our needs. The project came in on time and within budget. We rehabbed our tiny (4x5) 20 year old townhouse kitchen and Michelle and Augie helped us with selecting our cabinetry. Michelle is very knowledgeable and was helpful in sticking to our budget. We had a little trouble with one cabinet not being the right size for our peninsula which caused some construction delays but AKB made it right and the kitchen looks great.
