I've been to Andice General Store many times over the last few years, and I've never been disappointed by either the quality of their food, or the genuine friendliness of the people who work there. If you're going there for the first time, I would highly recommend one of their burgers. My favorite is the green chile cheeseburger. It's definitely on the spicy side, but so damn tasty. Another one of my favorite items (a guilty pleasure item that I have once or twice a year) is their chicken fried steak sandwich. Someone recently mentioned to me about a place in Florence, TX that has a really good burger. I'm like - "WTF is Florence??". So we looked them up on Yelp and sure enough, it's the Andice General Store, about 36 miles northwest from Austin. That's a little out of my way for my commute back home to Austin, but on this day I was feeling a little adventurous and had some time to kill, so I decided to go on a treasure hunt. My friend also said the story goes that this place has been around since the late 1800's and used to be called "Beer And Ice", but they lost the "beer" sign over time and never replaced it - - that's how it became "Andice" - - cool beans. Enough of the nostalgia and history lesson, how's the burger and experience? Real small town friendly feel here, like I'm hanging w/ The Walton's going to the local country store. Everyone is friendly and everything here is neatly organized and very clean. The chalkboard menu has a lot of enticing items on it, but I'm here for a reason, so we put in an order for a cheeseburger w/ all the fixings, fries, and side of onion rings. Food came out in a timely manner, and it looked so great that I spent about 10 minutes taking pics and setting up the food. The old timers just stared at me and thought I was nuts as they kept telling me to hurry up and eat it before it gets cold! The cheeseburger was large-marge, he said it's a half-pound of beef. I take a bite and it's really damn good - - the ingredients are extremely fresh, not greasy at all, and I can only eat half since the portions are fit for a king. I really liked the crinkle-cut fries, they were fresh and hot, and the onion rings were good too. It's definitely one of the best burgers I've had, and they best way I can describe the taste for you is to compare it to a familiar vendor - Sonic. Now, Sonic's burgers are so-so (IMO), I'm not a big fan, and they (like all burgers) have a specific taste at which I'd rate a "3" on scale of 1 to 5. Andice's burger is a perfect "5" on that scale, and it's the quality and freshness of the ingredients and lack of greasiness that puts it in a category by itself. I bet this guy would be mad if he knew I was comparing his burger to Sonic - - LOL! Customer service was excellent, the gentleman said his son owns the place and he helps manage it. You could literally hang out here for hours on a nice Texas afternoon talking about anything and everything. The bathrooms were way out back - - in out-house fashion - - and they were very clean. They also sell a lot of unique items, some of which are imported from Mexico - like the vanilla, habanero hot sauces - where I learned my lesson the hard way in performing a taste test. Habanero means HOT (you dumbas--). I got the Smoked Brisket Sandwich to go and had it for lunch, it was very good and I would recommend. But it's the cheeseburger that was tops for me at Andice - - a place that's well worth the travel and time spent. read more

Out an about around lunchtime so we decided to go way out to Andice to check out the highly raved over burger at the General Store. This little place isn't much. Tiny little building in the middle of no where, with quite a few people stopping in to eat. Pricey, yes. A cheeseburger with everything and fries alone with no drink will run you just under $12 without tip. Food is hot, and fresh. Hubby and I decided to split a meal since I only wanted a taste, and they were kind enough to bring it out to us in two baskets, already split. Very, very tasty for sure. Plenty of clean tables to sit at and very friendly service. Little store is nothing more than a few shelves full of various items like charcoal, condiments, bread, candy, sodas, etc. Don't expect much. It's kind of the place you want to go to when you are in a pinch for sugar or bread and don't want to drive into Leander to get it. read more

If these guys don't make the best burger in the world, I don't know who does. For the initiated, a few tips. 1. The burgers are huge. One can feed two people. 2. The fries are generous. One order can feed four. 3. The bottled soft drink selection is amazing. There are close to a dozen different root beer flavors alone. Talk about blast from the past. We drove up after an afternoon at the range and I was instantly brought back to early western times. We rolled into the parking lot and there were chickens running around and as if on queue, tumble weed rolled by. Washed our hands in the outback looking shack they called bathrooms (you have to get a code from the cashier, or it will be on the bottom of your receipt) and it was surprisingly clean. The guy inside taking our order was super nice, too. What we swallowed: CHICKEN FRIED STEAK SANDWICH: The steak wasn't too thick but the sandwich itself was super huge, me and my dad ended up splitting one. The chicken fried steak had a good flavor to it, crisp and moist. HAMBURGER WITH BACON: Talk about HUGE BURGERS! And they are well cooked, juicy, and have a really nice smokey flavor to them. Very tasty. CRINKLE CUT FRIES: Five people in our crew and we split 3 orders. It was definitely enough but these fries were perfect: moist centers and crispy edges. Very addicting! The joint is just an all around cute place. I asked my nephew how they found the place and he said "We just saw a billboard on the way to the shooting range one day..." True blue country store that makes a fairly good burger. The staff was helpful and friendly and the food was pretty darn good. The fries were really good, fresh, hot and perfectly cooked. Andice General Store Bacon Cheeseburger Score: 8 out of 10. Is it the "World's Best" as they claim? Well, no. But it's a damn good burger! AGS is also the only place I know of in a 150 mile radius that carries Sioux City brand sodas: Sarsaparilla, Birch Beer, Root Beer, Cream Soda, and more! The prices of their groceries are really high, and that's probably why there's about a half inch of dust on most of them. I can't imagine anyone going here to do any serious grocery shopping, though. read more

I biked here to meet my lover where we would then bike some more before satisfying my huge appetite. I have been wanting to try this place for years simply to see if it is the world's best hamburger as their roadside sign says. I can confirm that it is not but that it is good and filled me up. I just had a regular hamburger and a porter while the lover had a pulled pork sandwich and one of the many sodas they sell. This place is worth checking out. Drive there was a nice drive, burgers, fries and onion rings were awesome. Restaurant was completely packed so we had to eat outside under the pergola that provides no shade. Also there are no fans. Eating anything under the direct Texas Sun will turn a great meal into a it's alright meal. Took the hour drive road trip after seeing them featured on the Day Tripper. Ah, yes Andice is a quaint little town laden with bails of hay, pickup trucks and huge Trump flags. Ariving at the "General Store" we noticed the prices were almost double than the menu we had seen previously online. We ordered three burgers with bacon, cheese and all the fixin's (- that's how you begin to speak when you're in small, country Texas towns). We picked drinks from the fridge (lemonade, grape and a Mex. Coke). Burgers and fries arrived hot and all were good. I had to take my burger back because it did not have bacon on it but it was quickly fixed. Overall, it was a good burger. Could have been bigger for the price though. For lmost $10 a burger and half a tank of gas, I don't think it was worth the hype. read more

This is a real burger spot. I got a bacon cheeseburger and everything was fresh. Juicy tomatoes, crisp onions, great lettuce, and thick bacon. The patty is nice and thick like a rapper's side chick. Found myself near Florence for work and checked Yelp for a recommendation for lunch. I'm glad to have found this place in Andice. I got a regular cheeseburger and it was very good. After seeing the jalapeño burgers and the green chili burgers though, I'm trying them next time. They looked great and from the reviews they taste great too. The order of fries was cooked well and tasted great. It was also large enough for two people. The staff was friendly and the place was very clean. It has a nice Western feel to it. The seating consists of picnic tables. There is outside seating for those pretty days too. They have some general store type items for sale, but I think the reataurant is why everyone comes. We went there on Monday around noon. Andice is a town with a population of 25 and the general store is the only business there. I agree with others that the place is worth the trip. The burgers are huge and well prepared. You order at a counter and find a seat with some of the nice local folks. The only thing that I wonder about is the apparent owner who doesn't talk to you but watches the other guy waiting on you. I got the feeling that if you are someone who can't help but point out to businessmen ways that they could improve their operation be repared to hear "NO BURGERS FOR YOU; GET OUT" Oh yes, bring cash. read more
