Everything is so small...yet so expensive... They don't use organic milk so a bit disappointed for the price. This is probably the most expensive matcha (price per gram) you'll ever pay for. I think I prefer the cheesecake over the matcha latte. But the cheesecake is also so small. Like really small. Good ambiance. I've also added a picture of the cheesecake and my cat keys to scale

If one is looking to escape the hustle & bustle of busy Honolulu, swing by Ando in Kailua! It's surrounded by plants and much good energy. The drinks are varied coffee, matcha latte, houjicha and Japanese black tea!

I stumbled upon this place by accident as I was solo traveling around town. I immediately was attracted to the interior and ambiance of the shop. I immediately was greeted by two kind workers. Kevin in particular helped me pick out what matcha I might prefer. He was very knowledgeable and patient with me. He gave a very homecoming feeling to the place and I truly enjoyed the ceremonial matcha that was made. It definitely is a taste of what it's like in Japan. When I visit the islands again, this is a for sure the spot to visit.

Ando is a lovely lil cafe dedicated to tea and coffee in Kailua Town, right along Hekili Street. Parking is generally available on the street, otherwise you can park in the various lots located around the downtown area. The entrance of the shop is framed by plants and cozy patio seating, and when you enter the cafe itself, it has a minimalist, modern wood interior. There are some chairs/benches inside the shop for seating, and you can also enjoy your drink outside, which is a little oasis in itself with music playing in the background to create a peaceful atmosphere. The staff members are all very helpful and polite, and happy to explain if you have any questions about the menu! In terms of the menu selection, I haven't quite found my favorite drink yet. I've ordered the matcha latte, cloud spice matcha, the raspberry/matcha croissant, and basque cheesecake slices, all of which were okay. The prices are a bit on the steeper side for the portion size, and I personally prefer the matcha I've found at other cafes (e.g. Ohana Hui, Daily Whisk), but I could be mistaken as I haven't tried their ceremonial grade matcha. I also haven't tried the pourover coffee, which is another key feature of their menu. In general, I love coming here whenever I want to relax and settle down to enjoy a book with a drink in hand. I'd recommend stopping by if you haven't tried Ando before!

If you ever need an escape from the hustle bustle of the city, Ando in Kailua is the place to be. It kind of feels like you're being transported to a rural area in Japan because it's so peaceful and calming. They have drink specials as well as authentic ceremonial matcha and you can either dine inside or outside where they have a cute patio area for you to relax. It's definitely not the type of cafe to study unless you hotspot from your phone because they don't offer WiFi. One of our favorites is the Hojicha Latte -- light and creamy! I love to come back again to try their other drinks. Parking isn't the greatest but doable; you can either try for street parking or park at Target and walk over

The path to the cafe is nicely decorated with plants and is a great spot to hang out. I enjoyed the matcha latte which was simple and straightforward, although giving a somewhat pretentious vibe. I liked that you can taste the matcha and that it isn't overpowered but other flavors and toppings that many other places do.

~ Beautiful place, Decent matcha ~ The service was so nice and fast! There's indoor seating as well as a patio area outside. The matcha latte was okay for me. It tasted a little grainy and thick for my liking. But cold foam made the drink taste a bit better.

Very cute and cozy matcha spot. The reviews do it justice! The space is nicely decorated with lots of seating to sit in or easy to take out as well. If I lived nearby I'd probably be here a lot! I got the matcha latte - they do offer ceremonial matcha as an upgrade but I opted for the original one. I love that they have Japanese soymilk as a milk option - a unique addition to their menu that no other cafe does on island. My friend got an iced hojicha tea. They make the tea by order which I appreciate - you can tell they are using quality ingredients. The matcha latte was good - not too watery and a good ratio of matcha to milk. I will say though my friends hojicha tea was exceptional. I was surprised at how flavorful it was and I would come again for that! It was super refreshing and the hojicha taste was really strong.

I loved visiting this cafe! The coffee and matcha drinks are both high quality. They had some sample cuppings of the single origin coffee offerings. My favorite was the Gesha and my least favorite was the anaerobic honey lol. They are priced a bit higher ($12-$18) for a cup of coffee, but these are really high quality beans and each drink is pourover made with care. I tried the yo-in ceremonial matcha latte iced -- it's also offered as a thick usucha or hot latte. You can select whole milk, Japanese soy milk, or oat milk. The matcha used is 2g per drink, which is a good amount of caffeine for me. Everyone working there is friendly and has recommendations to help you personalize your drink, which is very nice. I asked questions and didn't feel like I was holding up the line. There is one large communal table inside, a bathroom further out in the plaza, and outdoor seating (a little wet from the recent rain). The vibes inside are the best cafe vibes - would have been a favorite working cafe if there was more seating, but this is more of a community third space than a read/ write/ work cafe. This was my favorite matcha place in Hawai'i. It wasn't too busy at 9:30 in the morning on a Sunday, which is more than you can say for the most popular matcha places in Seattle (Phe and Taz, and you can't personalize your drinks much there). Rikka Fika in San Diego is probably still my favorite matcha in the US, but Rikka Fika has more cafe space and isn't in a tropical climate. I'll be back to try the espress-based drinks and a hot matcha latte sometime!

It's a very small or cute spot for coffee lovers.I got coffee that the employees recommended and my wife got the matcha. My wife also ordered the matcha basque. There's also a sitting area outside which my kids loved. My wife brought out the drinks and the dessert. I couldn't wait to drink my coffee which was my first one of the day. It's pretty small for the price,so I was expecting to be super good.Sadly, it was pretty basic. My wife's matcha was the same.Nothing special. The best part was the dessert. It was spectacular.Like,WOW,that's was good.So if you're in Hawaii and you're in that area.Get the Matcha Basque and also try their drinks as well.

Matcha Latte in Kailua, O'ahu, Hawai'i... I had Ando on my radar because I saw this business on the list of Hot New Places on my Yelp app. I dragged my dentist with me - she was looking forward to this adventure because she hadn't been to the Windward side of the island on a while. We parked behind the building for free and walked over to the spot where Empty Elle Bagels was. There's still outdoor dining and a nice interior. We opted to dine in because it's warm outside in the August humidity. The air-conditioning is much appreciated! Our drinks were served in tall glasses for a more stunning appearance! Service was very attentive, polite, and patient. The staff were courteous and knowledgeable! The Coffee sample display was interesting - we were encouraged to experience each fragrance! I got the Matcha Latte and upgraded to ceremonial matcha: wakaba - which was a smooth version - and sweetened with monk fruit! It was great! My dentist got the Hojicha Latte and liked it a lot! Thanks for the calm, simple environment! We enjoyed catching up and chatting!

    Colombia El Silencio Geisha Washed
    Gabe L.

I had the most delicious Colombia El Silencio Geisha iced pourover with lychee and yuzu notes roasted by oubaitouri in Tokyo here. The baristas were very friendly and helpful in the description. I have to admit, the Tokyo butter cake (original and blueberry lemon) which was akin to an English scone was a tad dry in the middle. The mascarpone cream helped a little though! I would love to return for a matcha drink as they are clearly passionate about their craft drinks here! The space is so calming and relaxing, and they had both of Craig Mod's fine art edition books Kissa by Kissa and Things Become Other Things for reading.

Also, did I really want a Sonic burger? The answer was an easy no. Did a quick search and found this place which I had no idea existed but now I know they exist in an excellent way. People come here to drink, I'm not a drinker but there was plentynof alcoholic beverages on the back wall for your choice that it could be overwhelming. This is a bar with indoor seating and a World Cup game was on. I think there was outdoor seating but it looked like a different restaurant to me. We ordered dirty fries, a sweet tea, the simple smash, village smash, and sweet tea. I have to admit, I'm overly harsh on burgers but from the first bite, this hit right to me. The dirty fries were good also. We washed down that salt with their mildly sweet sweet tea. That's the only miss for me as I like deep sweet tea thanks to some time spent in Mississippi earlier in life. Their food put themselves on my radar so we will definitely be back as we didn't even scratch the other meats they had on menu.

Definitely would get it again __________________________________________________ Double stack Daddy: 9/10 Double patty done right. Very flavorful, but not as juicy as I would like it. Bun was crisp, bacon added an extra touch to the burger making it more than average, delicious! __________________________________________________ Captain Messy Hands, Keeper of the Drip: 7/10 stepping into the smash burger arena for the very first time. Ordered the Village Smash Burger Double Angus patties, cracked pepper crust, mustard, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onions, American cheese, and their signature Village sauce. This thing came out looking clean, sharp, and locked in. First bite? I finally understood the smash burger hype. The patties were thin, crispy around the edges, and perfectly executed the way a smash burger should be. That cracked pepper crust gave every bite a nice little punch, and the sear on the beef carried the whole experience. No sloppy grill work here! This burger knew exactly what it wanted to be. Now let's address The drip. Or in this case... the lack of it. This burger leaned more dry than messy. Not Sahara desert dry and not dry in a bad way, just controlled. Precise. Balanced. The bun actually deserves respect here because it stayed soft, moist, and held together from first bite to last bite without collapsing under pressure. Structurally elite. But CMH lives for chaos. I like burgers that need a stack of napkins nearby. Burgers where sauce hits the wrist. Burgers that fight back. This wasn't that type of burger. And honestly? I still respect it. Final Verdict...A clean, well executed smash burger with serious crust game. Not a drippy monster, but a strong introduction to the smash burger world. __________________________________________________ The Premium Purists: 9.5/10 The Village Smash Burger is a trendy modern burger that still hits with nostalgic deluxe flavors. I was very impressed by this burger. To me it was luxury in every bite! The balance of flavors from the beef, seasoning, sauce and LTO was on point. Buns stayed solid throughout the entire experience. It's a smash so the patties were a little drier but to me the flavors made up for the lack of juice.

Both experiences were absolute culinary delights. It has been a long time since we've discovered another true destination restaurant in Hawaii, one that stands alongside favorites like Fête and a very select few others on the islands. In fact, Faria would fit seamlessly into the dining scenes of our favorite places--Greenpoint, Williamsburg, Tribeca, Soho, Paris--or even right at home. What sets Faria apart and places it in such elite company comes down to several things, all equally important. From the moment you walk in until the moment you leave, the genuine aloha spirit defines the experience. The floor staff move with an effortless grace, almost like a choreographed dance, and their knowledge of each dish feels as though they've cooked them themselves. The ambiance transports you directly to a charming Portuguese fishing village--warm, immaculate, and inviting. The owners, too, embody genuine hospitality: present but never overbearing, driven simply by their love for what they do. While we are not experts on Portuguese cuisine, we were instantly captivated by the depth and complexity of flavors layered throughout each dish. As wine educators and consultants, we especially appreciated the thoughtful wine selections, each pairing beautifully with the food. Our experience concluded perfectly with a memorable taste of a stunning Port wine. Over the course of our two visits, we enjoyed: * Bolinhos de Bacalhau // Cod + Potato Croquettes with lemon and herb mayo * Linguiça Assada // House linguica, served sizzling over a flame * Portuguese Bean Soup // A hearty blend of cabbage, sausage, smoked ham, and white beans * Granny Pereira's Piripiri Chicken // Whole roasted chicken leg with piripiri spice rub, lemon potatoes, and braised cabbage * Vinha D'alhos (Garlic Pork) // Braised pork with garlic, white wine, braised cabbage, and pão da lareira Each dish was prepared with obvious passion, precision, and respect for tradition, while still feeling vibrant and fresh. Nope not possible as this is how the dishes are prepared & each dish tells a story. Ok, I should have asked to hear the story. But we know anything is possible and my request was not ridiculous.... I do enjoy spicy but honestly the peri peri sauce overpowers the excellently cooked shrimp & couscous. Unfortunately I could not finish it. Since it was my birthday I should have something I'm throughly enjoying. It was taken back and replaced with the peri peri chicken. Now the funniest thing is I am familiar with peri peri sauce. Expected more from this chicken dish but it really was too mild. I didn't mind that it wasn't super succulent but it lacked in flavor. However the cabbage and potatoes that accompanied it were lovely. I still like this restaurant overall in spite of a mildly disappointing experience. I also would have appreciated if they did not charge me $34 for the dish I could not finish on my bd. Honestly, Goen would never do that. It's very rare every dish in a restaurant is excellent. Looking at the menu, we were disappointed to see that many of our favorites were gone--the small burger sliders, charcuterie board, and truffle fries were all missing. We ordered the ahi dynamite, but it tasted different from what we remembered--almost like it wasn't fresh. The presentation was still great, but the flavor was off. The wine, however, was just as good as always. For a $100+ bill, the food did not live up to expectations.
