Stopped in for an afternoon hojicha to cure my tea craving but protect me from being up too late with the caffeine in matcha! This certainly hit the spot. Highlight: how kind and generous the staff was to me! They were so open to customize the drink however I wanted, zero judgement. I have a HUGE obsession with sea salt foam and was so excited to add theirs to my drink but I was disappointed that it was too sweet for me with a little too much vanilla flavor. Next time, I'll keep it simple and just order the hojicha!

Mashio Project regularly pops up at Fishcake in Ward area. Be sure to follow their instagram account to check they're open! My boyfriend and I loved our berry matchas. For one, oatmilk is set as the default milk--which I love as someone who is lactose and doesn't want to pay extra for milk alternative. The matcha is strong, yet balanced. Not too sweet. The berry puree is delicious. The drinks were made by hand but made quickly. Prices fair, comparable to most other matcha spots. Staff friendly. You get a buzzer after you pay, which I found helpful. Limited parking but street parking is available!

They always do a great job! I tried the Matcha Crush upon recommendation and it was definitely not your typical matcha drink - very tropical-esque. Needless to say - I did feel like an island gurly pop as I drank this drink and it was very refreshing! I'm a matcha latte enthusiast but I think I'm drinking too much lately so this was a good switch-up. Definitely recommend if you want something with no milk. As always, Fishcake is a great spot to have their pop-up. So much space to sit down and lighting is darker so it definitely feels very relaxing. I spent some time here just sketching and taking everything in.

I found out about Mashio project through a pop up at Our Space Hawaii. The girl taking my order was super cool and she has her own tattoo business! The matcha was pretty okay, I think they were really packed but it was a bit too strong for me. The matcha tiramisu though was amazing! I think it's the best tiramisu that I've had and they made the matcha work well with the cake and cream.

Matcha Fest... Held at Fishcake was epic showcasing all things Matcha was a dream that I was delighted to see all the various drinks as each are unique in its own ways and it's no different here at Mashio Project with all lattes using oatmilk it's a matter of matcha or hojicha and that alone ends with the simplicity as it's the holiday so I was so happy to have seen something that I've yet to see in a matcha drink. Persimmon and goji berry...yes it's called "Sunset Matcha" or "Sunset Hojicha" as the persimmon gave it the gorgeous orange hue which then was topped with oatmilk then the dramatic matcha pour, it was a delicate and sweet sip that I really loved I also got the "Tropical Crush" a more refresher drink which has seltzer, pineapple, mint and yes matcha which was very light and refreshing but I'm so happy to have discovery them as insane the crowd was here the gentleman who was dearly backed up held it all so well. You can find them every Friday at Fishcake from 11am-3pm but do hope to see them at other locations as well. Thank you!

@fortunefoodfinds: This was CITRUS-ly MATCHA needed! A Mandarin Espresso Spritz n' a Matcha Einspanner from mashio project where you can find them poppin-up at fishcake every Friday & Saturday. The spritz was surprisingly so refreshing n' their matcha was worth getting! SERVICE: one-man show, was helpful n' informative INTERIOR: pop-up at fishcake, find at the front counter, shared space, some table seating throughout the store, artsy EXTERIOR: in Kaka'ako WAIT TIME: 10 mins PARKING: limited street OVERALL COMMENTS: came for the einspanner, but it wasn't available. Arrived less than an hour before closing so understandable that some drinks (ingredients) would be sold out. Was offered a different cream top or other options in drink mixes. Decided to go with the matcha einspanner, which gave the true flavor of matcha; earthy. The salted vanilla matcha cream top added just the right amount of sweetness without stealing the spotlight from the matcha. Be sure to mix well to have all the layers combined evenly to get the perfect sip. Great tasting n' satisfying. I got my hubz the mandarin espresso spritz. Not gonna lie was hesitant at first of how it would turn out, bubbly espresso with freshly squeezed citrus. Surprisingly, it was really good. Different, unique, n' highly refreshing. Now I want to try out more of the menu!

The Lava Mocha is hands down my favorite mocha I've ever had. Rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced. It was the reason I came back and waited! Mauna Kea Iced Coffee is my FAVORITE coffee of all time. I will be drooling over this coffee until I return. It has coffee, sea salt caramel, a scoop of ice cream, and black sea salt. Already it sounds delicious and it was. I finished my drink within 5 minutes. I didn't order any food this time, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. The menu is extensive with plenty of options, making it a great place for brunch whether you're craving something sweet or savory. The café also has a small section selling Island Vintage merchandise, which is fun to browse while you're waiting. If you choose to sit outside, don't be surprised if a few birds decide to join you for breakfast and they're regulars too.. Overall, despite the longer wait for drinks, the quality of the coffee, inviting atmosphere, and tempting menu make this a spot I'd happily visit again.

Sadly, it seemed more folks were there for the pastries though. First off, I'm surprised I found such a fabulous cup of coffee in what feels like the epicenter of tourist life on this island. While visiting another island nearly establishment had signage stating they served Kona and/or Hawaiian coffee, but nearly every establishment's coffee was absolutely awful. Seeing the location I fully expected them to phone in the coffee, but it's clear that coffee comes first here, even if many of the guests are trying to get pastries! You'll be shocked by the line, but just know the staff is efficient and it moves fast. They offer a variety of their own locally roasted beans here, with options for batch brew, espresso drinks and even pour overs (impressive considering the volume of customers). The coffees are well described and the baristas have the additional knowledge you may be seeking when you order, and all in all this went as quickly as I could have expected. Truly, the coffee was delightful, and the fact I was drinking a hot drink on an extremely hot day didn't even phase me. I wanted so badly to bring home a bag of each one, but given that everything is more expensive in Hawaii, these were all 4x the price of the specialty coffee I buy on the mainland and I just couldn't make it happen. What will happen is me telling everyone to visit this shop when they're in Hawaii because it is 100% worth it. Won't you consider opening one in Reno NV?

The barista was a bit bemused when I ( humorously ) mentioned I swallowed some sediment from the straw...not being used to drinking yerba mate in this traditional way. Super late review -…read more I'm sad. I really wanted to love this place but I just couldn't. I don't want to be that person when this place has an overall rating of 4.5 but this is just my honest opinion. I got the blue dream and yes it was very ascetically pleasing, but it was just too icy. Before coming to this place i read a couple of reviews that also said the same thing and i didn't understand what that meant, but now I do. There are a lot of flavorless, just regular, small shards of ice in the bowl. On top of that, the moment I received my bowl, it was already borderline melted. So that got me thinking, how can it be melted and icy at the same time? The only explanation that I can think of is just ice additive/fillers. It's not pure cold acai or whatever is in the bowl you choose, but there's a mixture of ice in it too. Yes I understand, it's Waikiki, everything is more expensive, but the added topping prices on top of the already expensive bowl prices just don't make sense. You want a beautiful looking bowl with a lot of different toppings, yet some toppings can go up to 1 dollar PER topping. I don't know if I've just been spoiled by a couple places in SoCal, but at those places they have unlimited toppings and those bowls are the best that there is. I'm not bringing any bias from other locations, but this is just an honest review based on my experience today.
