After hearing a lot of great reviews about Andrew Bellucci's pizza, I had to stop by to grab myself a slice and was pretty excited to give the Vodka Roni slice a go from this location! Overall, I'm not sure if it was the pepperoni's or the sauce or what exactly went wrong, but it was a pretty salty slice. Slightly almost to the point it wasn't worth finishing, but I wasn't going to let it go to waste. I've had Andrew Bellucci's other location and even ordered a whole pie of the same pizza and it was great. Hoping this was just a one off, but it kind of put a damper on the excitement to go to this spot. I finally made the drive to Andrew Bellucci's Pizzeria after leaving the DMV yesterday. This pizzeria was on my hit list of pizzerias that I had not yet gone to. Right on 30th Avenue, it was a welcome sight with the red awning with Andrew's name on it. Place is nice and cozy. The late Andrew Bellucci is honored well at the pizzeria which bears his name with his work shirt in a display on the wall. Also, the pizzeria is open for slices and walk ins from 12-5 and after 5, you must have a reservation. Back to my order, I ordered a white magic slice along with a mushroom and onion slice to try. Both were fantastic and due to the three day fermentation of the dough, the slices were light and not heavy on the stomach. This is pizza elevated to the next level. Andrew Bellucci was known for this ethic and it shows. Matthew and his crew really honor the memory and legacy of Andrew Bellucci, the original pizza nerd and a pizza maker's pizza maker. There was a gentle crispness to the crust that I really enjoyed and the dough wasn't too heavy - it felt light on the stomach. The tomato was nice and savory/sweet as well and this definitely holds its own in the competitive scene of NYC pizza slices. I would definitely come back here, and I'm convinced this is perhaps one of Astoria's best slices. I ordered a square mozzarella pie ($22) for pick-up Friday night because they did not deliver to Astoria Park. I'm assuming that is because Bellucci's hires their own drivers, but luckily the online ordering process was very straightforward. They even called to let me know when my pizza was ready for pickup. I will say it was a little smaller than I expected, but the individual slices are much larger. The dough was by far the best component of the slice. It was crispy all the way through and had a beautiful browned bottom. It was not pillowy or doughy in the center the way many Sicilian slices tend to be, but instead reminded me of a Detroit slice-- substantial and well-baked. At this point it's my fault for ordering again and again from this place. Every time i have ordered from this place it has been a disappointment in terms of food and service. Such a sweet little place to grab a slice or a pie! The woman who greeted and helped us was an angel--so filled with light and kindness!! We ordered a salad--they are HUGE and if you're also getting pizza, definitely share. The dressing was sweet, tangy, and bright, and the vegetables were generous. The star of the show, of course, was the pizza. We tried the vodkaroni and the four corners sausage and onions. Awful experience with Belucci's staff. I placed a delivery order and waited three hours only to be told they weren't going to deliver it at all. After about two hours of waiting, we called periodically to check on the status. Each time, the woman on the phone told us the order was "on the way," which clearly wasn't true since the update never changed. At around 10pm, realizing they were closing, I called one last time and was told the order had been canceled. They offered to remake it, but then said they didn't have the gluten free pizza, which was the main reason I ordered in the first place. If they didn't have the item available to begin with, I don't understand why they wasted three hours of my time with false updates. By the time I found out the order was canceled, it was too late to order from anywhere else and I went the whole night without dinner. Really disappointing since I was excited to try this place as it's hard to find gluten free options in Queens. But now I will not be ordering from this place again. The pizza here is pricier than other comparable options in the area, but I do think the crust and sauce here are just a little superior than other options.
