These were estate pieces with precious stones and they simply valued each piece by the scrap weight of the gold content. After my last review the owner of the company Andrew contacted me to solve the problem related to delay of sale. It took few days to sign the record of purchase and transfer the money to my account. As an apology for my time and efforts spent trying to reach them by email and phone, Andrew also agreed to cover the wire transfer as I live in another country. Unfortunately, the ring wasn't sold for the price that I was offered in the office (Andrew said that they could not find a buyer), but we agreed on the amount that I was offered while I was trying to sell the ring myself. I really appreciated Andrew's way to handle the situation, he took responsibility for the mistake of his staff, was very polite and tried to fix the problem as fast as it was possible. I put 3 stars due to the stress I had during the entire month in efforts to reach them, not receiving any information earlier and for not getting the amount that I was expected to get (we signed an agreement form for the price higher than what I received in the end). read more

This was one of a number of establishments I visited in the course of selling estate jewelry. I was drawn to them based upon their reputation, Yelp reviews, and nice offices. I expected a knowledgeable appraisal, a competitive offer, and the ability to trust that any ignorance on my part wouldn't be taken advantage of. My verdict is mixed. Nobody in the Diamond District makes a living paying "fair value" for someone's old jewelry. And some of the shops on 47th Street make you want to reach over and strangle the guy trying to haggle with you. Fabrikant was an easy and comfortable place to do business. But I received higher offers elsewhere on the majority of pieces I showed. I have other complaints, but they apply to the majority of Diamond District buyers, so I won't single out Fabrikant. Suffice to say, I'd steer my friends and family elsewhere. read more

DO NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE!!! If I could give this business 10 stars I would. After a month of pain and suffering going to different diamond and estate jewelry dealers, I almost gave up. I was so relieved to have met Andrew. Not only does he know the industry to the T, but he did what no other dealer did, he treated me like a person rather than a stone. The man is a true gem (sorry had to throw that in there ;) He is humble, intelligent, and has tons of empathy. He has heard his fair share of divorce stories. I walked in feeling down in the dumps like everyone going through a divorce and left happy (and not because I just had a check in my hand). Andrew had me laughing and feeling better about my life which is priceless. Now listen up and read here. He took my diamond and brought in 3 other diamonds that were GIA to compare them to, but he had me tell him the difference between the two. He explained everything from girdle, depth, width, clarity, weight you name it. He also had the computer program Sarin which is a visual diamond measuring system. It will tell you EVERYTHING about your diamond. Anyone worth their snuff in the industry uses this. He then did more measuring looked at charts did calculations. Basically he took his time. This isn't a rushed process at all. Listen, everyone wants what their gem or ring is worth (if not more), but as you know you will not get back the exact amount you paid for it or what it was valued at 10 years ago... anywhere you go. Went in to sell some jewelry. One of their reps tried to low-ball me - they offered me a price, telling me it was the best I could get. I declined and within five minutes they had doubled the offer making it clear that if I wanted that price, I needed to act right away. The experience was not unlike buying a used car. Andrew and I just completed a low-five figure transaction, and my experience was the opposite of a neophyte's nightmare about wading into the New York jewelry world with someone who knows the business much better than you do. He was recommended to me by a client of mine, and shared a beginner's cheat sheet on pricing and then found a buyer for my piece. My rings are absolutely gorgeous and they created exactly what my husband had envisioned. They are very trust worthy and honest people. I needed to get my grandma's wedding band made larger for my finger, because I wear it everyday since she passed away. I left it with them and not only did they make it larger, but they polished it and made it look as beautiful as the day she received it from my grandfather!
