I had a check engine light on my dash. I went to Andy's automotive and they charged me $180.00 to check what that ment. They said my truck needed a Valve body that attached to the transmission. They Quoted me around $2,564.00 to fix it. They quoted me $1,600.00 for the valve body and 2 hours labor. I called Reno Dodge, Dolan Auto Group, and they said they had one in stock for $350.00 to $400.00. That's a lot less than $1,600.00 for the part. $180.00 to check the check engine light. The last owner never held me up like that. I couldn't go lower than one star. read more

Ive been going to Andys for years and will not be returning or recommending to anyone. Under Andy I had nothing but good experiences, in depth explanations of issues and more than understandable costs but since the change in ownership the quality in service has severely dropped while the costs have seriously spiked. I have given them multiple chances because I wanted to believe things would get better, but every visit has been more disappointing. My most recent visit was to get general 120k service done and check an engine clicking noise. They changed the oils/fluids but barely acknowledged the clicking noise which was the main issue. After I picked it up, I had to bring two mechanics with me just to show them the noise was still there, and they acknowledged it but still didnt fix anything. The worst of my experiences was that they also rotated my tires but didnt set the pressure correctly, my brakes were very stiff and grinding for a while afterward and a lug nut fell off my front right tire after a few days. Luckily i noticed it before driving and sheer chance it didnt happen on the freeway or somewhere worse. They also charged me $180 to "diagnose" a check engine light that i had already told them the code/issue for. Then their recommended fixes seemed more like guesses than genuine diagnostics that would follow an in depth review of a problem. Their solution was essentially, "Lets replace this part, and if that doesnt fix it, well replace something else and maybe thatll work". Between the unresolved engine issue(s), poor workmanship, drastic increase in costs, and genuine dangerous after-work issues (grinding brakes and lug nut falling off), I have lost all confidence in this business. read more

We started a job when Andy still owned it. It was an engine swap that cost me 10k. There were issues from the beginning but the new owner absolutely abandoned me, never fixed the issues and I am currently in litigation. Don't. Just don't use this place. If you've been going there for years like we had it's not the same place trust me. Mr. Graves, the new owner was arrogant, unhelpful and basically told me if I didn't like it I would be stuck suing the LLC Andy's Automotive. So that's what I did. I came to Andy's automotive for an oil change and inspection on a vehicle I had owner for ~5,000 miles. they informed me that oil lines were leaking, but due to having no oil loss in the last 5k I scheduled the service for the following week and drove the vehicle. 80 miles later The truck was out of oil. Andy's stated this was my fault due to diving with an oil leak. (I do not believe that there was an oil leak due to the 5k trouble free preceding miles.) After having the oil lines replaced I again ran out of oil, and discovered that the lines were improperly installed, as verified by two independent mechanics. Other minor items appeared to be incomplete as well, indicating that the job was simply not done right. Customer service after both incidents was defensive and rude. I suggest that you proceed with extreme caution. If you do not have the expertise to double check all of their work, I advise you go elsewhere. read more

We have been doing business with Andy's for over 15 years, with good service and quality of work. In May, 2025 I took my car in because it was running rough. After dropping off my car, Sean from Andy's called me to tell me my battery was bad and replacing the battery would fix the problem. I approved the $350 battery replacement (that was a "good deal rate" because of my employer, which I never asked for told him where I work, except for caller ID). Picked up my car that afternoon drove it home, nothing had changed. It was still running rough. I chose not to take it back. My husband, still wanting to have faith in this company, called the following week to get a quote on having rear struts put on 2019 SUV. He was quoted $1,000. After dropping off my car, Sean called again. Stating they quoted a 2006 SUV not 2019 so the cost is approx. $400 more. I agreed to this rate increase reluctantly, again getting the "good deal price" due to my employer. My husband researched the cost of struts that were installed and it appears they have a 100% markup on parts, and that was the "good deal price!" I drove the car home, my husband inspected it and they installed one of struts incorrectly, electrical wiring was routed improperly underneath the strut that is moving up on down on the wire. I take the car back the next morning, they "zip tied" the wire to the frame of the vehicle, stating the clips to hold the wire were never installed by the manufacturer. My husband inspected the original struts before we had it serviced; the clips were installed correctly prior to Andy's working on the car. This vehicle is now at the dealership having work done on the Parking brake due to a malfunction. read more

I have been using Andy's Automotive for 20+ years & let me tell you, I will never go anywhere else!!! My front axle broke in my 2017 Toyota Tundra. I purchased this truck in Elko, Nevada & went thru the warranty company to have the axle replaced. Because it was under warranty, I had to go thru Dolan Toyota (what a joke!!) Here we are 4 months later (STILL waiting on axle from Dolan Toyota!) Went to pick it up from Dolan on Monday because I was so pissed I had been waiting for 4 months!! Took it to Andy same day. He had it ordered & installed (an even better axle!) 2 days later!!! I should have just taken it to Andy in the first place. Ever since Andy's went under new ownership that place has become trash! The guy at the front desk, Sean, was extremely rude to me because I didn't know the name of the part I needed! very unprofessional in my opinion. This review is about Andy's Automotive -- just keep on reading. So, I called Greg's Garage the beginning of Thanksgiving week to see if they could help me to determine why the heat in my daughter's 2005 Mitsubishi Montero was not working. Long story short, they kept her car way longer than expected, were unprofessional in follow-up calls and gave me an estimate of $2,700 to fix her heater core -- the technician went so far to add colorful detail about chocolate milk being spilled on in. And then he said there was much additional work that needed to be done. $2,700 -- we decided to wait on that! After all, we're saving for my teen's first year of college. In a last-ditch attempt to fix my teenager's car, I took it, upon fortuitous recommendation, to Andy's Automotive. Andy's is actually the third auto shop I went to in search of honesty and reliability. Check this out -- at the first shop I went to in Reno, I received a quote of $600 to fix her heat, but then the owner disappeared for an elk hunting trip and never returned my calls. So back to my service at Andy's -- I dropped my daughter's vehicle off on Jan. 2 in the early morning and actually found Andy walking in to work through the front door. Since it was not quite opening time, he amicably offered me the drop-off envelope to put my key in. I liked the experience from the start! The day after New Year's, he was not only up, but he was early to work! By 10:30 that same day, Andy had called me and said he was able to flush the heater core and the heat was working just fine. Unbelievable. Better yet: the charge was only $166. Moral of this story: Call Andy at Andy's Automotive. I drove my 1957 Oldsmobile from San Mateo, Ca to Reno/Sparks for Hot August Nights and developed major suspension issues on the trip. Andy's was recommended by another shop and am I glad they did. Andy has restored my faith in the mechanics in the Reno area! I needed a knock sensor for my car and had gotten price quotes that were all over the map. Some shops even changed the quote every time I called them! I finally tried one guy who had the lowest quote and ended up getting ripped off because of the shoddy work he did AND the problem came right back. Of course, that guy offered to fix the issue if I brought the car back and paid more money.... Yeah, right. Enter Andy! I was referred to him by a church member I trusted so I gave him a call. I got a good feeling about him from the moment I spoke with him on the phone. He told me exactly what to expect, detailed my Issue and the resolution with the worst-case scenario and worked back from there. I know a bit about cars so I understand what is involved in most repairs. Andy gave me a quote that was not only fair and realistic, he took the time to explain what specifics went into the cost. After getting my car and beginning the repair, the problem decided to be stubborn. Granted, my car has over 250,000 miles on it so I'm sure it was due for some other things to go wrong. All in all, Andy fixed only what was necessary to get me running and passing emissions. He even took the time to go through Toyota's ridiculous process for setting the different codes to make sure the problem would not resurface as soon as I drove away. I have a'92 Ford Ranger with 263K miles on the clock. I noticed that I had a small brake fluid leak coming from the frame of the truck. I called Gabe at Andy's and told him of the problem. He told me to bring the truck in ASAP because you either have brakes or you don't! I bring the Ranger in and Andy takes a look and determines that I had a defective proportioning valve [the valve controls fluid to the front and rear brakes]. Problem: Ford stopped making this valve in the 90's. Gabe does an exhaustive search on the interweb but an OEM valve was non-existent. Andy steps in and gets a hold of a contact he knew in Oregon, and the contact has a like new valve! His contact overnights the valve to Andy. Andy installs the valve and my Ranger was ready to roll. Any other garage would have probably said, "the valve is no longer available, get rid of the truck." Although my Ranger has some high mileage, it still runs great. Thanks to Andy and Gabe, I can hopefully keep it on the road for another 20-30K. These guys will bust their butts for their customers! I'm a customer of Andy's for life. Highly recommend this place. These guys are awesome and will take care of you. At most places, the labor hours seem excessive, or they add additional fees just to run up your bill. These guys are the opposite. I honestly felt like they were trying to find ways to save me money. His business is the most honest and excellent I have experienced in my lengthy life and after our first work by him, we have used no other. He goes out of his way to accommodate your schedule to the point that our out-of-state extended family uses his business exclusively. Their UNR kids drop off their autos on their way home on scheduled appointments during breaks or their parents schedule an appointment with him when they drive here for home games. Having only been in Reno for a few years I really missed having a mechanic I could trust to give me honest assessments and quality work. When my vehicle needed some service I asked around- who did people trust to work on their cars? My neighbors told me about Andys and how they had been servicing their whole family's cars for years and how they trusted him implicitly, so I decided to give them a try. I have not been disappointed. Andy has a trait that many mechanics lack: honesty. He'd rather be up front with you and earn your trust (and your repeat business) then cut corners or overcharge you. He will tell you what your vehicle needs and what it doesn't. Many times he has saved me money when I suggested a certain service and he said that he could do it but it wasn't really necessary. One time I had a few issues with warning lights- he figured them out and didn't charge me for the frustration and time I know he went through- just charged for an oil change that I had told him "BTW, do an oil change while you are looking for the probs." Don't get me wrong, he'll charge you a fair price when you need something done, and it is probably similar to other shops, but it is nice to know that you are getting charged for things your actually need done. He has kept our three vehicles (2 '98s & a '04) safe & on the road now for 4 years and it is nice to know they are well-maintained. Every month they keep going saves us a new car payment or two and he has them in fine shape. He can't always get you in right away- he is busy with repeat customers, but a couple of times when things have suddenly come up, he has squeezed us in. It is nice to have someone in town you can trust, and trust the work in the cars that your spouse or child drives. Old school values and work. That is Andy & his staff. read more

The part my car needed for the repairs cost a bit more than I had expected, and rather than surprising me with the cost, they gave me a call, ran me through the reasons, and let me give the okay before doing any work. All I can say is wow!!!!! My Tahoe died while I was going to work this morning, and I called Andy's on a recommendation. I don't have AAA, I was slightly hysterical on the phone Gabriel answered, he calmed me down and helped to set up a tow truck. Fast forward a couple of hours I'm sitting in the customer lounge while they fix my Tahoe! They understood my concerns about not wanting to dump a lot of money into the Tahoe. One of our work trucks had a brake failure and Andy tackled the problem quickly, and at a price that was extremely reasonable, and well below their competition. In addition, they were professional enough to point out some additional problems with the truck but never pressured me to fix anything. We took my wife's car in with a problem. Long story short we went back a few days later to pick the car up. We payed Andy and were on our way home when all the symptoms came back. It drove ok when we left the shop but after heating up the problem surfaced again. We called Andy and he told us to bring it back. He test drove the car with my wife. They didn't even leave the parking lot when he said "turn it around". While my wife waited for me to come pick her up Andy refunded a little over $1,100 to my wife. The next morning his guys came in early and found/ repaired the original problem. The cost was a fraction of the amount we payed the day before. Two days after the repair my wife and two of my daughters drove the car to Los Angeles and back with no problems. I used to take my car to Tires Plus and after having been screwed (probably for being female) I took my car to Andy's and they took great care of me. I've had to take my car there twice to have brakes changed and then some work done and got new tires. My mom had a job done there that should have taken a week, took two days. The staff went above and beyond in helping me. I dropped my car off as a walk in for a possible full replacement of the steering column. They researched the issue and found there was a recall a few years back. They did all of the leg work, calling the dealership and I was covered.
