I met here with a friend for lunch. We were seated right away. Tables are quite apart from each other, which I loved. Drinks arrived with chips and salsa, that was nice. I ordered street tacos and the steak was perfectly seasoned! It was well paired with Mexican rice. Everything was just delicious. I'm glad I chose Cantina Louie for lunch. I'm all set with never coming back to this location ever again. Our waitress came and got our drink order, came back with the drinks, and my wife asked for another minute as she was still deciding. The waitress wandered off and didn't come back until at least 10 minutes later. We ordered our daughter a kids cheese quesadilla with a side of beans instead of french fries. She sent it in as a cheese quesadilla WITH black beans on it, so we had to send it back when it came out. After everyones food finally came out, she came out to ask us if the food came out OK, and as soon as we said yes she started walking away. I had to call her back to ask for refills because everyones cups were empty and she didn't bother to offer a refill or anything. After she came back with our refills she never came back again. I made eye contact with her 4 times in a row where should would look back at me and then immediately turn to go ask another table how they were doing. I was getting so frustrated we were about to call the manager over and walk out before she finally came back to our table. When we asked for the bill she whipped out the little handheld card reader, read us back our order but didn't tell us the price or show us the actual bill at all. Just, "Tap here". We had to demand seeing the actual bill before we paid. I also witnessed multiple tables start to get up to leave and the busser would rush over and start clearing before everyone had gotten up from the table. The restaurant was at least half empty so there was no reason at all to not give people another 30 seconds to leave the table. The sad part is the food was actually good. The kitchen staff was busting their butts only to have the front of the house tank our experience. The food is the only reason I went as high as 2 stars. read more

Came here on a whim on a school night to check out their taco Tuesday specials. When we arrived we were promptly greeted, and then shown to a table. We looked at the special's board and noticed that all tacos were $2.99 AND speciality margaritas were $5.99. I wasn't going to have a drink on a school night, but I like their skinny margarita....so they twisted my arm. Our server grabbed us some chips and salsa and took our drink orders. Our chips came out piping hot and the drinks came out quickly. I will say if you like your skinny margarita a bit less sweet, order a side of club soda, that way you can add what you want to even the flavor out. When it came time to order our tacos, I ordered two tacos, a chimi chimi bang bang and an Americana hangover style (your taco comes in a hard taco, then the hard taco shell is wrapped up on queso and a soft taco shell). I'm a stickler for good service and cantina never disappoints, they are always very accommodating and their service it's top notch. The food is fantastic, I love taco Tuesdays, any taco for 2.99. Tacos can be ordered in corn tortillas, lettuce wrap or as salad for an additional 99 cents. I also love their salads, they are enormous. They also have amazing margaritas! Great variety and flavors. First time here, it is 5 de Mayo, so we figured to try it, the place is awesome, festive, fun, decorated with a Mexican theme. The service is great, the food is very good, I discovered that "carnitas" means pork . I got a mojito soooo very well done, with coconut taste, a recommendation of our waitress Theresa. She was funny too, I appreciate people with good humor. My husband got shrimp siracha, I did Carnitas, my daughter ordered the chicken fajita and the size can feed an army. The manager Zack introduced himself to us, that is a touch of class to me, it makes you feel special no matter what. Kudos to that Zack! Came here for a quick bite to eat at the bar. This place was fairly busy but the bartender tended to me right away. Ordered the top shelf margarita since they have an $8.99 special every Saturday and Sunday. That drink was STRONG! Then ordered the loaded nachos with grilled chicken. At the first the presentation was underwhelming. I've seen bigger and better looking nachos in my life. Pair it up with the house made habanero sauce and it is definitely on the higher end of nachos I've had in a while. The ingredients were fresh and delicious. We came in on Tuesday 6/13 for taco tuesdat all tacos were $2.99 (AMAZINGGG) let me tell you why. The tortillas are big and the tacos are stuffed! So you really get a Bang for your Buck! We also ordered a Queso that was interesting super melted cheese provolone ? Maybe since it was white. It was good. All margaritas were also $5.99 . On a previous visit, I ordered the steak burrito and it was very good, on this trip I ordered the burrito supreme, and shared it with my spouse. This is off the beaten path in a tiny strip about 4 miles from my house in the imaginary town of St Johns. About 20 met for the retirement of one of our coworkers. I had chicken tamales which I loved since living in Austin and LA. Wrapped in corn husks they were fabulous and I had another for breakfast. Take a son paddling or fishing over by Micklers or the GTM NERR or a fishing hole in Ponte Vedra or Nocatee, then when the afternoon thunderstorms threaten, stop by here on the way home. Surprising there aren't better choices closer to the beach. I really like the ala carte taco options. Shrimp, mahi, grouper. They have lettuce wrap options now, too. Ceviche for me. Taquitos for the young'n. I'm probably never here during prime lunch rush. So maybe not a fair comparison. But I enjoy this spot more than the St. Augustine location. My party arrived around 5:30pm on a Friday, it place was already packed, my wait was just under 20 minutes and they texted me when the table is ready, convenient! My favorite items are from the mexican street foods menu. I really like that we could order them singularly, so I could try all different ones. This place was hopping on a Friday night 90 minutes before closing at 10:00. They definitely have a sweet location between St. Johns and Nocatee well surrounded by suburbia. Bright decor with decorative hanging light fixtures throughout and "Dia de los Muertos" themed painted walls. Everything, for the most part, was delicious. I had the TacoTijuana and grouper and it they both were delicious but the Taco Tijuana was may fav of the two. My husband got the shrimp sriracha and surfer girl chick. The shrimp taco was really good. I didn't try the surfer chick taco but my husband said it was good. For drinks, I got the mango patron margarita and it was good. Sweet but good. Could have been a little less sweet but had good flavor in general. We finished the night off with the churros which were cooked perfect, fresh and filled with wonderful goodness. The only thin I didn't like were the table chips. They weren't salted well and the chip was pretty thick and almost stale tasting. Not that they were stale but maybe overcooked and too thick. Overall we will be back. 5 stars for service and ambiance... 3 stars for food. Came in on a Saturday afternoon, looking for a quick bite to eat. We wanted a casual place, with a fun atmosphere and that offered some light bites, to not spoil our appetite for our dinner plans. As is usual when traveling, we used our Yelp app and found Cantina Louie. We both love Mexican food, and a cold margarita did not sound bad at all in the hot Florida weather. I spotted the place before we entered the parking lot. Typical sugar skull, in purple, advertised the location. I was liking it so far. Inside was very colorful, with more sugar skull painting on the wall, including some faces like John Lennon. They also liked the star lights making the place look like a "dia de los muertos" festival. There were some tables open but seeing there were a couple of spots at the bar we opted for that. It's usually quicker service, plus NBA playoffs had just started and they have TVs to watch it. Taking advantage of their Happy Hour, which runs every day from 2pm - 6pm, we ordered the house margarita for $3.99. They also offer $4.99 well drinks, $2.99 beers and wine, and some other daily specials. Drinks were brought out fast and our bartender allowed us some time to decide on food. While we did that, we got complementary chips and salsa. The chips were crispy and salty, just as they should be but the salsa, even though it had a nice kick to it, it tasted a bit too much like ketchup. To eat we ordered: Taco fries - this is like nachos but instead of tortilla chips, they put fries on the bottom. This was good and filling, and, I think the best thing we had. Taco Ranchero - I really appreciated the size of this taco. Some places give you like a sample size, this one was big and filled to the top with rice, refried beans, carnitas and pico de gallo. Also, liked that the tortilla tasted fresh. Only problem is the meat was dry. Street Corn, which they only do on the weekends, looked better than what it really was. While we ate, the bartender came over several times to check on us, offer us more drinks, and clean our area as soon as he saw we were done with some dishes. Even though food was just ok, I really liked the atmosphere here and service, and would recommend it as a good option when in the area. read more

We went on a Tuesday evening and was seated right away. Our server, Kelly was very professional and quick to check on us. The kids got a beef soft taco and a cheese quesadilla. My husband got the West Coast Burrito with a side of Habanero Salsa & I got the two specialty tacos. While our server was on point, my daughters taco came out as chicken instead of beef at first. In fairness she didn't bring our food, a food runner did...so I'm not sure where the miscommunication came from. I also got my husbands habanero salsa on my plate and took a big ole bite thinking it was tomatillo salsa. I ordered a 1862 margarita with the guava on the side. To my surprise, they served some liquid flavoring that doesn't even come close to guava.
