SCAM! I entrusted my cat to them back in June. I have called and left messages, I've had my best friend call and leave messages too. No calls back, no answers. I didn't want to think the worst, but based on the other reviews and the recent CBS8 news story... the worst has happened. 13 years of love with my little man, only to end up as disrespected in the end by this horrible "service" My cat deserved better. I don't know how the owners of this place sleep at night, or live with themselves after doing something like this. This is a horrendous feeling I wouldn't wish on anyone. Just an update of my review. My personal experience at the time of my dog's passing was still excellent. The recent news stories seem to be pretty damning and I was quite surprised to see them. If all this bad stuff is proven true, well, I guess I don't even know for sure if I got my own pet's ashes or just something scooped up from the bottom of a fireplace. My little dog, Max was euthanized at the animal specialty hospital in San Marcos, California and they recommended angel paws Pet Mortuary they even gave me the directions. took the remains of my beloved to this guy, and I should've walked out as soon as I went into his business. It wasn't very organized. It was very small. He had old couch that was leather. It was so nice so that's why I left my beloved Max with him and he said he would take extra care when he was cremated and he would give his ashes in this little brown box that I picked out. I noticed he me back and it was like two months and when I left a never called me back six months. He left a voicemail saying I could pick up his ashes, but then by that time he was permanently closed due to fraud So I brought my little to his place of business June 2, 2025 so I'm pretty sure my little Max is in one of those white non-commercial freezers and he's probably at the bottom thank God there are people that are helping us owners that never received our pets ashes, and this guy needs to go to prison and needs to be in a courthouse where owners can be there. I just can't imagine all the people that never their pets ashes and they're probably deteriorated stacked on top of each other with no separation so there's no way I'm gonna go in there and look for my little Max. On YouTube, there's a news channel that was videotaping a woman that was trying to get into the building, and the owner just sat at his desk, didn't even open the door. She had to call the sheriff, and she went in there looking for her dog and she had to go through six non-commercial freezers and she found him. She said the smell was horrific, and there was a the floor because all the freezers packed with dead animals. The owners in the process of his gas was turned why he was unable to cremate animals thank God the building owner turn off the to all those freezers. And all these Pet owners paid him upfront so I paid over $225 which I probably won't ever get back and I wanted a cute little brown wooden box with a cute little dog face on the front and the owner said he would make sure I get the one I picked out. I wish I would never have gone inside that place and if I did, I should've just walked out. I had to constantly call and get updates from Chris and those were a hit and miss. He said he would personally bring my dog's remains back to me on specific date then it turned into oh can I bring them the next day. Then that turned into a different day. Eventually he brought me my dog's remains. I found out about Angel Paws closing from scrolling Facebook yesterday 10/08/2025 and saw the Channel 8 news feed. I now wonder if I even have the correct remains. I wish and pray I do. But now seeing this did I just bitch enough and Chris just gave me remains or did I actually get my dog's remains. Well, we entrusted our kitty to them three weeks ago. They said it would take about two weeks and that they would call us. Here we are three weeks in, and no calls, no emails. We called and left messages, and we sent emails. No response. It is what one might call, hmmmmmm, I guess the word is "traumatic." Update 4/8/25: The business's voicemail is full, so I cannot leave a message. There has been no email reply. It is quite possible that they went out of business. The next step is to stop by the address and double-check. Update 4/11/25: Left yet another VM. Sent another email. Nothing. I am convinced that they are out of business. EPILOGUE 4/18/25: We went to the business. It was open. We asked about the delay and got some story about emergency surgery, no phone access, etc. However, someone was checking the phone because one day, the VM would be full, and the next day, it was taking messages. They offered to deliver our cat's ashes to our home the next day. They did. However, some questions linger. First, would they have called us or emailed us if we had not gone to the business? Second, what is that smell at the business? Well, they deal in pets who have died, so I'll let you, dear reader, connect the dots and figure out the smell. Lastly, are those, in fact, my cat's ashes or just some random pile from some crematory? The question remains unanswered, but I have no confidence that they are my cat. I did not want her last memory and the last chapter of her life to be this, but once she left this house, we had to rely on other people to take care of her, and it went poorly. It has gotten to the point where I am going to report the full transaction that I have paid as fraud. The professionalism and sensitivity from the staff was incredible. I have recommended Angel Paws to many people, and they feel the same as I do. On June 21 2025 Our beloved 16 year old Bichon had a seizure and a stroke and we were horrified to have to uthenize her. Our entire family was devastated by her sudden death and we were all heartbroken to loose our sweet girl. I held her in my arms as she passed on June 21, and the vet recommended this place for her cremation. We chose to have her cremated alone with no other pets in the chamber and were promised to have her brought home in two weeks . It's now been well over a month since that day and they had not returned our calls or texts regarding her. Yesterday we finally got them on the phone and they promised to have her home to us first thing this morning. All the incredible sadness came pouring out once again as we anticipated her arrival today. The morning came and went and she wasn't delivered. I texted them. Then they called back and said they were running late but she was on her way. It's now 6:00 pm. and she's not here. After Two more phone calls they said she will definitely be home by the end of the day. I'm so upset and angry with these people and their lack of empathy. She wasn't just a dog, she was a family member and friend. I am now wondering if our girls ashes will even be in the urn. After over a month I doubt very much they would know where our girls ashes are and wonder what we will be receiving. This entire situation has been a nightmare and it certainly isn't the treatment we anticipated. At this time I would like the $250.00 dollar payment we made and we will honor Bijous memory in a more dignified way. We came in to pick up our beloved Dante's ashes. Rob helped us with getting the box with his name engraved on it, his paw print, hair lock, engraved heart and death certificate. It was a hot day and there was a heavy scent to rotting flesh which I kind of expected. They look very busy and try to keep up with demands. Prior to coming in, I had spoken with Alex who told me that Dante was in good hands and would be ready for pick up on Friday. Losing a family member is always difficult. Well. This review is very much long over due and I still don't know where to begin. My baby, Edward, crossed over the rainbow bridge 14 months ago and till this day, it never gets easier. I can just tell that Angel Paws put so much love into cremating my boy and putting his keepsakes together for my husband and me. When I picked him up from the vet's office, the bag itself, was just so beautiful. The custom tag with his name on it said a lot. We got some of his fur in a little jar, and a clay paw print which really meant so much to us, and of course, the urn he came in was beautiful as well, with a little gold plate. This place is not worth the money. The people seemed nice when we were paying and dropping off my dead dog. However, they are very unprofessional and inconsistent. They told us that she would be ready for pick up in one week, and that they would call us. It took them three weeks, and not an apology or anything. Maybe it's because we got the cheapest package, since my wife and I don't have any money. Either way, I would NEVER go to this place again. I highly recommend that others find a different place. We had our Nikki for only 7 years, she left us too soon. She passed away on her birthday at the age of 13. We watched her go from a weary, scared little corgi to a full tilt diva. Her attitude was "the whole world belongs to me." She went down hill fast and we lost her 2 weeks into her getting sick. It was too soon to say goodbye. She was adored by everyone. When I went to pick her up and take her home, I opened the bag expecting just the cedar box, but the tears started as I saw the little bag that had a locket of her fur and her paw print. so sad I took my sweet Oreo (Black female Cocker Spaniel) to Angel Paws to get cremated on june 8th at 3:45 pm Oreo sadly passed away on a weekend and there wasn't a cremation place open down here in San Ysidro so i drove 55 minutes to San Marcos thinking it was a beautiful welcoming trust worthy place to get her cremated since i talked to the owner over the phone and he seemed very kind and welcoming, once i arrived I filled out a form and some other small papers he had i payed 250$ for the cremation and two additional necklaces that were going to have some of her ashes in there as well , I was so devastated that day didn't even realize he didn't give me a receipt once i arrived back home i called to ask him about the receipt he told me he would email it since there printer wasn't working atm he also said she would be ready for pick up on june 21st i kept calling and calling but only got an answer once and it was after june 21st he said she would be ready in about 2 more weeks, after that i called and called nonstop so did my husband and we got no answers after that i finally had enough and drove back up to Angel paws about 2 weeks ago and the place was closed my husband and i waited there 5 almost 6 hours and no one showed up, 2 women arrived in a white car turns out they work at a near by veterinary hospital and they've been working with Angel paws for over 10 years they are also having the same problem they took over 15 dogs to Angel paws to get cremated on the morning of june 8th and haven't gotten an answer back from the owner or any updates, this place is disgusting i am beyond devastated i just want my sweet Oreo back read more

Purchased the Gold package. The packaging was very nice, and the keepsakes were so special- but, the customer service is why it's not a 5/5. Their website says it takes 10 days for cremains to be returned, and on the phone they said 10-14, however, it took double that time. We had to call 4 different times- each time we were given a date that our pet would be ready, and each time that day would go by without any update from them. This happened 4x. Finally they told us he would be delivered on Wednesday. Wednesday comes and we hear nothing, so we call again that afternoon. They tell us their driver called out so they'd drop off our pet tomorrow. We called out of work so we would be home to receive our pet because they told us Wednesday... but they were just never going to bring him, and didn't think to reach out?! They would've dropped him off Thursday instead with no one home... just cremains sitting outside? We would have even picked him up if we were told that was an option for Wednesday (since their driver called out) BUT THEY NEVER UPDATED US! Their plan was to just not tell us they changed the delivery date and then what? leave my dog's cremains sitting outside my house for hours??? read more

This is an update to my recent one star review. This place is even worse than I thought. I just got off the phone with Julia, a manager at Veterinary Specialty Hospital (VSH) in San Marcos where Wally passed away on 5/30/25. She had left me a couple voicemails previously which I hadn't noticed. So I got in touch with her this morning. VSH had completed an audit and discovered that Wally was in fact still at their facility, intact. This means that Chris, the owner of Angel Paws, had never picked him up as he told me he had. After I paid Angel Paws $245.00 5/30/25 for Wally's cremation (gold package) I never heard from them again. They never returned calls or communicated with me in any way, as I stated in my recent review. On 7/2/25, after not hearing from Angel Paws for over a month, I was very concerned and drove to their facility. Please read my recent review for all the details, but suffice to say that when I showed up it took some time to locate Wally's paperwork. They told me they don't use a computer and everything is on paper. They eventually found his paperwork in a pile and began putting everything together for me on the spot... Wally's ashes, engraved name plate on the box, fur in the vial, paw print, etc. My gut instinct told me this place was a scam and so I asked for a refund because I didn't trust that it would actually be Wally's ashes in that box. Glad I went with my instinct since I just found out Angel Paws never picked up Wally in the first place and God only knows what they were going to put in that box in place of Wally's ashes. Read if getting YOUR OWN PET'S ASHES is important to you. If anything changes, I will update this. When my 17+ year old cat (5.4 lbs) with kidney disease left me suddenly, I picked this place based on the yelp rating. The owner's kind voice/words on the phone helped too. But when I actually read the reviews after the cremation, i realized that almost all 5 star reviews were based on the return packaging presentation (they indeed do a great job with that.) But for me, the only thing important was that I got only my pet's ashes as I want his ashes to go with me when my time is up. I chose a private cremation and dropped off my cat's remains personally to ensure no mix up with someone else's baby.) A couple of days later on Sunday, I went back to see the remains of my little guy being placed in the cremation chamber. It was before 9am. The chamber was huge. They told me to go some where and wait for their call. Told me they had many other animals to cremate that day. They closed at 4pm (Sunday.) They assured me again that my cat was getting a private cremation and the chamber would be used for the rest of animals after mine was complete. While parked in my car near their office waiting for their call, I googled about pet cremation and got scared. Unless this business had multiple cremation chambers (later found out they had only one chamber), what they told me didn't make sense. If it takes 4 hours to process one tiny cat, the most they could process in a day would be 2-3 small animals. So how does a business make money? I went back to them (around 11am?) and they assured me that my cat was the only one in there. About 4 hours later (almost 1pm), I was given some ashes that seemed way too much for my cat's 5.4 lbs body weight (almost twice what it should have been, not an acceptable variance.) Also, their explanation of a tiny remains taking 3 hours to burn ("because there is so much empty space/air inside the chamber") didn't make sense. One additional hour to make up the total of 4 hours was probably to heat up the chamber and to cool down the ashes etc. I then checked with other cremation services around the country and was told that it would take more likely 0.5 to 1.5 hour for a cat, depending on the size/equipment used. Sounded like it should have been less than an hour, not 3 hours, for my little one. I fear that I failed my cat at the very last step of taking care of him. No words can describe my pain. The owner didn't respond to my requests to speak with him like he did before "money was handed over". I tracked him down later but the slightly different version that he gave me still didn't add up. Right now, I think they all lied to me from the beginning. Numbers don't add up. Angel paws, help me. Please email and point out where I am off. What happened to my little one? read more

It's already a really tough time losing a beloved pet(family member) then having the stress of not sure I actually got "her" back? I'm not sure why it would take so long ?? I was really disappointed in my experience with this company. I called the evening prior to my dog being put down and was told they're 24/7, so to call after the fact for pick up and they'd be there. My dog was put down as planned and I called and no one answered so I left a message. Then another message, then several calls, and no response. Finally I got a call at 10pm, (my dog was gone as of 6:30pm) and the man said he was not in the office and going to Riverside and would call when he returned, and asked me to text him my address. As of writing this review, still no phone call. I truly hope nothing happened to the guy, and if all is ok, this is definitely not the way to win business. I went to another local company and they have been outstanding! So while it worked out for us that we found a professional and attentive company, we sure went through a hassle in waiting and the runaround. On April 7th, my beloved Spider Monkey (Hamster) passed away. She was the 1st pet that my wife and I had owned so it defitnetly hurt us starting off our day like this. We live in an apartment so we couldn't bury her so we considered having her cremated. After searching and calling a few places, we came across Angel Paws. They were extremely helpful, informative and their prices beat everyone else's hands down and were realistic! The downside was we had to drive from Chula Vista but the drive was WORTH IT. They were incredibly compassionate when we first brought her in and just as compassionate when we picked her up today. The turn around time was also amazing! They handed her to us in a cute wooden box with her name on a placard, a little wooden heart with her name engraved into it and a flower on the inside next to a pet tag. Unfortunately, we had a pet pass away a few months ago. Fortunately, Angel Paws was there for us. This was the first time that we had considered having a pet cremated, so we had no idea what to do or where to go. After a little research online and on Yelp, we decided to give Angel Paws a try. Glad we did! We gave them a call to ask a few questions and set up arrangements. The man had a very calming voice. No rushing, no judgement, didn't try to upsell or anything. The call was very informative, quick, and easy. We decided to make the payment over the phone, but we had the option to pay in person, as well. We had the choice to drop off our pet ourselves or to have them do a pick up. We chose to have our pet picked up. Within a few short hours, someone was at our house for pick up. We liked how the whole process was very inconspicuous. The car was not all stickered/ painted with their business on it. They didn't come out with a gurney. The man walked up to our door to introduce himself. He was very calm and pleasant. Had us confirm and sign off on the information they had collected from us earlier in the morning. We then pointed him in the direction of our pet. He very gently removed the collar and used a blanket to cover and pick up our pet to carry and place in the back of the car. And, they were off. We recieved a call once our pet was ready to go home. It took a little longer than expected, but it was OK as we were in no rush. We thought they were going to drop off once everything was completed, but that would have been an extra charge. So, we went ahead and stopped by to pick up. Once there, they presented us with the items that were part of our package and had us double check everything before leaving. Everything was completed and packaged up very nicely. We recommend checking out their website before giving them a call so you can see all of your options and be ready with your questions and decisions. We were able to take our little one directly from the vet to their office in San Marcos and leave him.
