I have had many CTs for different problems in the past and asked if the neck CT was necessary since I don't have any current neck complaint. The receptionist wouldn't even ask the dentist to consider my history of exposure. Given a history of CTs in the past, it's important to evaluate each patient individually and decide if CT is absolutely necessary, per every primary medical source I checked. This office policy is not balanced or, in my opinion, safe.

In 2010, a Seattle prosthodontist installed implants for two teeth in my upper jaw. My regular dentist attached the crowns. When the crowns for both teeth cracked in 2024, each dental practice had been closed for more than seven years. I had no record of my implants' size, manufacturer, and platform. It was important to know my implants' platform because some crowns screw in and others are cemented on. I spoke with a couple of oral surgeons who had no idea how to obtain this information. The implants embedded in my jaw were still healthy, but only a fragment of each crown remained. I needed to find a prosthodontist who could: 1) Remove the crown on each implant to learn how it mated with the implant. 2) Use this information to identify the "make and model" of my implants. 3) Order replacement parts. 4) Make impressions of the implants, register my bite, and cast new crowns which fit together exactly with the teeth in my lower jaw when I bite down. 5) Send me home with new crowns and a record of my implants' size, manufacturer, and platform. The original crowns were glued in, but Dr. Jere designed my new crowns so that they could be easily detached (unscrewed) if there is a problem to address in the future. My implants are not commonly used in this part of the United States. I was very fortunate to find Dr. Jere. I would characterize the work she did as part "implant detective and part engineer". She also worked with a veteran lab technician to create custom-made crowns which match my tooth color and tooth transparency.

The dentist, Dr. Bello, was professional, but my experience with the hygienist, Kelly, was extremely negative. At that time, I had just moved to the United States, did not speak English well, and naturally relied on my husband to communicate. Instead of showing understanding, Kelly made remarks suggesting that I was like a child depending on my husband. I found this deeply mocking and humiliating. During the cleaning, she smiled while inflicting pain on me, and it felt cruel and deliberate. As an Asian immigrant who couldn't speak English then, I felt that she treated me differently in a way she would not have treated other patients. That made the experience even more painful and isolating. I cannot confirm whether Kelly is still working there, but that experience left me with lasting trauma and a deep mistrust toward dental hygienists in America. In my opinion, no patient should ever be made to feel ridiculed or discriminated against because of language or cultural background.

I stopped coming last year after the practice dropped my Delta Dental insurance. I recently decided to give them another try because I now have dental insurance through Cigna. Before my most recent appointment, I sent my insurance information in advance by email and also confirmed it by phone. The office booked the appointment with no mention of any issues. I drove there, took time out of my day, and once I was already sitting in the chair, I was told that the practice had dropped all insurance and asked if I wanted to proceed, pay out of pocket, and then personally deal with whatever reimbursement my insurance might or might not provide later. This conversation happened with a dental hygienist, not an office administrator, despite the practice having administrative staff, and it was extremely uncomfortable. It felt inappropriate for a clinical provider to be put in the position of handling a billing and insurance issue. I declined and left, having wasted time commuting and attending an appointment that should never have been booked under these circumstances. This same situation has happened to me before and is exactly why I stopped going previously. What is most concerning is that all responsibility is placed on the patient. You are expected to manage insurance reimbursement yourself, the practice takes no accountability, and they reserve the right to charge whatever they choose, often well above standard ADA fee guidelines. There was also no follow-up of any kind from the office after the visit. No courtesy call, no acknowledgment, and no attempt to address the situation, which further reinforced the lack of professionalism. The office is beautiful and the staff is welcoming, but the lack of upfront communication, pricing transparency, and professional handling of insurance matters feels misleading. I am sharing this so others are aware and can ask very direct questions before booking, especially if insurance coverage matters to you.
