My review is based on takeout. This place came highly recommended from close friends who live locally and come here all the time. They rave about their food and pizza. This is a Mom and Pop style restaurant. It's very casual, nothing fancy with a full bar. I ordered a large Bacon and Black Olive Pizza and a large Vegetable Pizza with Peppers, Onions, Mushrooms, Broccoli, and Tomatoes. Both pizzas were excellent! They didn't skimp on toppings especially on the Veggie Pizza. The crust was cooked exactly how I like it, more well done and perfectly browned. The toppings were delicious and I enjoyed every bite. I was pleasantly surprised. Avellino's even offers an extra large size pizza that's 18 inches. They also have Sicilian style pizza. They have Gourmet Pizzas like Grandma Pizza with Vodka Sauce. Ordered takeout: Grilled turkey wrap, 14-inch pizza w/mushrooms, cheesecake, calzone, broccoli cheese bites, and pizza dough (we always order pizza dough from Avellino). Order arrived quick and food was hot. Pizza was well-done and thin crust made like a tradition Jersey pizza; balanced sauce with cheese. The food tasted good. We ordered chicken Caesar salads for delivery. The portion was generous, so you get a lot for your money. Dressing came on the side which was nice. The chicken was really good and cut appropriately for the salad. You can't pay with your card over the phone, but you can pay with your card when they come to the door. It was very easy. I've been coming here a couple times a year now with my fiancé. We always enjoyed our food it's not the best but has always been good and filling and never crowded, like a diner atmosphere for Italian and you can get a beer. This weekend was no difference. We enjoyed our Veal Parmesan and garlic bread, the sauce was better on the meat than the pasta. But the reason for the low stars was when they were bringing out the " silverware " from the back. The guy dropped the whole tray. They picked up every piece off the floor and didn't try to even pretend to bring in the back to rinse off...they just put it in the area to be dispensed to customers... ugh. That's not even a question of ...oh I prefer my fork clean ...or maybe a bit of floor might add a nuance of sidewalk to my meal. It's just not sanitary and I'm sure the board of health would agree. ..so no stars for that grossness. The food would have been a 4 . Avellinos is a local staple for all things Italian!!! There are great deals on weekly specials and both takeout and dining are always on par. I must've done takeout from there every week during quarantine and have been continuing to just make it a weekly thing. Plus the yummy garlic bread that comes with your order is bomb. One apparent regular customer came in behind me and she said to me "they have to be kidding". so for the other walkin reviews...hey if its a blizzard or a tsunami and you want to walk somewhere for pizza and a beer this is your call but there are so many fantastic places to eat in this small area where they are competent and greet the customer and make you feel welcome and pay attention to what you actually said. It didn't look like a very special place; the building and grounds are in fine condition but not very attractive, so I wasn't expecting a very special culinary experience. I thought it would just be "another pizza place," like so many in NJ are. I was very pleasantly surprised. I would describe their pizza as "well above average." Their "regular" pies such as plain or pepperoni were quite good. Not overly greasy in my opinion, and the crust was well crafted; soft at the edge and somewhat crispy underneath. Their "specialty" pies are even better. They make a great bruschetta pie, a nice savory white pie with ricotta, and a brilliant buffalo chicken pie with large chunks of perfectly cooked juicy crispy chicken and a mildly spicy but very flavorful buffalo sauce. I have had catered food from Avellino's at several family occasions and it was always great. So I decided to use them for my party thinking this is a no brainer. I called the day prior and placed my order. Unfortunately when we went to pick up our order they had no record of it. Say what? They did made the order while we waited (as it wasn't that huge of an order) but it would have been nice if they maybe compensated for their miss and for my inconvenience, but no dice. Great local place!! Back ten years ago my daughter worked for the owner, Mario, as a waitress. The sports bar was just an idea then, but successfully launched a few years ago now. I prefer the bat side, has an updated feel and is fun. Bartenders are always really nice. The food is good and hot when served, the sausage and peppers is great! Have it with the garlic bread and you're set! Pizza is good, but I recommend eat in. Delivery is fast,but I'd rather eat in as for some reeason they just don't hold up as well when you get them delivered. Also, they charge a delivery fee - which I understand but still balk about in town - we're one square mile! This place was a surprising find. Went tonight during football for pizza and beer. This was my first time there. I never realized there was a bar. The atmosphere was lively and the bartender, Michelle, was friendly and efficient. The pizza was really good. The crust holds up and the sauce and cheese have good flavor. If I could give this place zero stars I would, 15 minutes ago I witnessed a man being over served alcohol. As the joint closed they offered him more shots of tequila. The man was clearly too intoxicated to even walk and as the owner was locking up the doors, he watched this man stumble to his car and try to drive away. The man proceeded to try and drive as the owner just sat there and watched him. I am in complete disgust right now, with the ice cream place next door and kids running around, someone could've easily been injured or even killed. The only reason why the man didn't drive away is because someone had to stop him and call the cops!! This is ridiculous, as an establishment you shouldn't over serve and proceed to watch the man drive away. It's fucking disgusting. THEN the owner watched the man get arrested in his parking lot and just drove away like nothing happened.
