Vinhos is a gem on Main Street! We happened upon this lovely place looking for a good meal and we're big fans of tapas. We stopped in just before 6:00 and we're greeted by a friendly woman getting the restaurant ready for opening. We later came to find out she was an owner. She was so sweet and offered to seat us before the servers actually showed up, as they had worked a local event that day. The waitress soon came and our wonderful experience began. They have a great wine list and wine cocktails. We ordered three dishes and were pleased with the presentation and flavors. Pica-Pau - a traditional Portuguese dish with beef and spices in a delicious broth. It's served with bread for soaking up the broth. I really enjoyed this dish, especially the broth. Crostini di Mare - shrimp on crostini's with a tangy garlicky sauce on top. This was my favorite and I wouldn't hesitate to order this again. Sea Legs - octopus over a sweet potato mash. This was tasty as well and the octopus was cooked perfectly. The sweet potato mash is divine!! We also had a Caprese salad, pretty average, but nice presentation. The outdoor seating area is comfortable and so nice to people watch on the main drag. We really enjoyed ourselves and plan to go back next time we visit. This place is always packed on Friday and Saturday nights! My mom and I came in on a Wednesday evening and it was a great vibe. Andre, the owner, showed us class and hospitality and was helpful and attentive. Michelle, the chef, was extremely classy and served us delicious food with finesse. There's a huge selection of international wines to choose from. My mom ordered the Moscatel dessert wine and I ordered the White Blend from Spain. I enjoyed my wine and if you're a sweet tooth, dessert wine is the way to go! We ordered the Spicy Moroccan Lamb Meatballs with some cornbread and really enjoyed it! I do think the dishes are slightly on the pricier side, but the quality and finesse of the dishes makes them definitely worth it. Our meatballs were so soft and tasty. And we couldn't help but finish all the leftover sauce it came with by dipping our bread in it! I enjoy the vibe of the inside. I love all the blue dim lighting and there's even a small stage for folks to perform on busier nights. The patio is in a prime spot if you wanna enjoy the sidewalk vibes, especially on a Friday/Saturday night or on Thursday's if downtown is hosting a street fair! Def coming back! read more

Not welcoming to us as big party coming in at 7, we walked in at 5:30. We left at 6:15 after three glasses of wine and two tapas social dishes. We sat at the bar and attempted to have a glass of wine, the waitress was so damn rude, it wasn't enjoyable! I don't reccomend this place.. seriously sad, because Merced could use a place as such. Well, first off the name is a little strange lol the place is very blue, blue walls, blue furniture, blue accent lighting, blue everything Lighting is a bit funky, there is just no place in Merced that can get the lighting right. Lighting can be so good if it's done right but the same boring bright overhead lighting you find in every spot in Main Street. Ordered the 3oz mini lamb slider for $17.... Not sure if this will fly with Merced peeps when they are already complaining about a $7 burger at five guys. Slider was tasty, it said it came with feta cheese crumbs, sun dried tomato and arugula. All I could find was about two pieces of arugula? No real sauce to bring the slider together. Also ordered one slider with an extra lamb patty and somehow I received two sliders and two patties and was charged $51... I had to have a chat with the waitress lol Didn't taste the wines but I saw they featured wines from Merced and local regions... not really wines you want to showcase or even serve in my opinion, the climate is just way too hot for good wine grapes. The music was like 70s jukebox music on two speakers at the front of the stage so no real feel of music filling the whole space. I'll try the other wine bar and see how they compare... read more

Looking for a place that offers chill vibes. This is the place. Located in downtown Merced, parking is limited but if you're lucky you'll get a front row spot. Heading on inside, you greeted with dim lights, comfortable seating, and a blue flame fireplace towards the back. Service is exceptional, and there is lots to choose from on the menu. The wine has a pleasant taste, personally I enjoy red blends, Cabernets, and desert wine. They also have the perfect pairing charcuteries to go with it. Vinhos has been a wonderful experience! I learned about Portuguese culture while sampling absolutely delicious plates of savory bliss. This is a great spot downtown near restaurants and the main movie theater. Plenty to walk to nearby or stay and catch a vintage movie on the huge screen above the bar. My fiancé and I had stopped by when waiting down main st after watching a movie and we heard karaoke so we were very interested in checking out the place. As you walk in, you are obviously ID'd which is great and a responsible thing of the owners. The owners Michelle & Andre were absolutely amazing! They showed us such hospitality, Michelle even sang karaoke with us & they made everyone who's was there feel like a safe place where you can be yourself, have a good time & enjoy wine! The only little down fall is the waitress we had didn't really know much about wine but we learned together and she was so sweet. They lost a star from me. I only gave them two because the live music there was good. The food was barely greasy spoon quality at fine dining prices. The management is reportedly anti LGBTQIA+ and was vocally against flying the Pride flag in downtown Merced. Let's hope they're replaced soon. This gem of a wine bar serves fantastic Portuguese small plates in an atmosphere of a hip Lisbon night club. An excellent wine list serving local and international wines. Great service and friendly people. If you're a fan of Portuguese cuisine you will not be disappointed. If you've never had Portuguese cuisine you're in for a treat. Two of us ordered the six plate items on the menu and it was basically two full meals. They also offer mixed plates with olives and cheese as well as deserts. We sat in the back on their blue velvet couches (literally the best couches I've ever sat in) and lounged for a few hours. Their linguiça bites were to die for! What a wonderful hidden gem to add to Merced downtown. My husband and I were early for our movie and decided to venture downtown. We've heard a lot of great reviews about Vinhos and decided to stop in. Very impressed with the decor and how they fixed the place up from what it was previously! We were seated right way and the menu was reviewed with us. We are Portuguese and had to go with the Linguisa bites. They were absolutely delicious and mouth-watering! This place has a lot of potential, but also has some homework to do. You should follow their social media accounts to know when there might be live music as otherwise you could be surprised with a small popup card at the front desk indicating a $10 cover charge although you were just going for some wine and small bites. That is, however, just a minor inconvenience imo unless the band sucks. I am torn when it comes to the food... We shared the Windmill, the Crostini di Mare, the cream chicken, and the linguica bites and the passion delight. The crostini and the linguica were by far the standout items and did not disappoint. The Windmill seemed like it had finished a little while before the other dishes and they waited to bring it out, because the innards were not a dip.. it was a chunky spread at most and therefore a bit difficult to eat and not as enjoyable.The bread, however, was outstanding (#nosoggybottom) and another highlight of the evening. Steer clear of the chicken, as the best part were the few mushrooms that were served alongside the uncut chicken breast tenders. The passion fruit dessert was decent, though not wowing.. The wine was outstanding, and I will be back for more. The decor is cute, though a bit mix and match but to each their own. The decor and interior are cute, and quite the mix and match of different styles (dark blue, almost UV type of lighting, a faux fire place, a screen that plays old movie and cartoon clips and an American flag... yeah, there is a lot going on) which I don't mind at all - let that freak flag fly! One big downside though, if you offer food, it would be great to have slightly bigger tables. Working with the carts to serve food is okay but slightly bigger tables would be the easier fix and make the dining portion of the experience significantly better. Last but not least, the service.. The waiter was attentive and did her best to provide a great experience. However, I would have appreciated a bit more of an educated service in regard to possible wine pairing recommendations. I can read on the menu that it is recommended to choose a Chard ot Merlot with the Windmill, but if I ask you for a recommendation please give me a few specific wines from your menu you would recommend to go with the dish instead of just pointing out that the menu says that I should choose a Chard or Merlot.. It's kinda your job to suggest a few wines you have on your menu to allow the dish to shine and elevate the customer's experience.. For the dessert, I requested a Madeira, and the waiter tried to serve me a Moscato? I felt bad but I returned it to order what I wanted instead. Overall, not bad.This is a newly opened restaurant, so it is normal that a few kinks still need to be worked on. I will be back but do hope that a few things will improve over time. read more
