Such a shame they should probably just change the name, it seems it's no longer much of a grocery store, new owners decide to go with more of a casinos/liquor store kind of place by adding more gaming & booze and limited " groceries" and deli. The beer is really pricey even when they are promoting "Beer Blow Out Sale" Cashier's service wasn't much help when asked what was actually on sale then when questioned on the sign out front just said it ended last week and they are gonna be taken down (but its still up even months after the fact) Bottom line if your looking for beer liquor and gambling this is your place if you're looking for groceries go somewhere else read more

Ordered 1 lb of American cheese from the deli. When I got home I realized the employee legit opened a prepackaged bag of processed cheese, weighed it, then put it in a deli bag to appear it was sliced fresh. I also bought a bag of pasta to find out it expired almost a year ago. This store has no business selling food or groceries. read more

I ran in to get cheese for a meal I was making. They had one brand of cheese, 4 types/flavors. All (maybe six) of the packs of pre-shredded cheese were expired, the block cheese had a week left on the date. I did get the block, I planned to use it all, and some chips. Then I waited at the register for several minutes for someone to arrive. A woman working at the deli made eye contact, but did nothing to alert anyone that I was there. I live within walking distance, this used to be a convenient place to get a few things like general produce, basic groceries. I was excited when the renovation started, hoping the produce & grocery would expand. Instead they only added the slots and liquor. Our of curiosity, I browsed the wines and the variety was not extensive (although it LOOKED like it was, and the prices were average to high. I won't go back. read more

I ordered catering through Angelo's foods for my daughter in law's baby shower this past weekend and was delighted with the outcome! I invited 55 ladies and I believe each and every one of the ladies commented how they were crazy about the chicken salad-it was the best I myself have ever had-absolutely delicious! I also ordered Italian and American subs and the ladies said those were delicious as well. The lunch meat and Italian bread was so fresh and flavorful. My friends in the neighborhood said they will be stopping by for the chicken salad as they loved it so very much!!! Angelo's Foods is so clean and confirmed my order and are so pleasant to work with. I walked in for the 1st time since the remodel. It's cleanliness sticks out. The original cook is back and as you know fantastic. The deli is fantastic as before. I basically have no complaints about this market. I love that I can come here to get items to make a home cooked meal, and also get an order of something that is already cooked if I am feeling lazy. The employees are also generally attentive and nice. You can find produce items such as: onions, tomatoes, jalapeños, apples, some basic herbs, lemons, broccoli, etc. However,this is not an ideal market to come if you are looking for speciality produce. The prices on produce are almost always lower or the same as most grocery stores in the area. The meat selection typically includes chicken, italian sausage, and a few other types of meats. The market also stocks items such as alcohol and frozen items. Examples of items this market has pre - prepared are: lasagna, chicken (fried and baked), meatballs, and salads. My personal favorites are their lasagna and eggplant parm. read more

New owners as of roughly two months ago. They advertise their Slots games all over their window. Not one add for the meats and cheeses the previous owners were known stock for reasonable prices. Walked in the store for the first time in 4 months. at least two to three full of everyday candy you can get anywhere The meat and poultry case no longer exists. What used to be the back room where the butcher probably worked is now an open cooler room for beer, the refrigerator wall where they had some frozen food goods is all beer now one entire aisle where canned and dry package foods used to be is all wine. The meat section is a 1/4 of what it used to be with very few selections likewise the fresh produce. The deli is nothing to speak of either. I suspect the new owners are new to this kind of a venture and have no idea what they got . Likes like an oversized quick mart instead of Angelos Food Store. Sorry but i don't see this store making it. Very sad read more

Pass this place every day on my way to work and figured Id start supporting local instead of my usual stop. The yogurt was 30% more than at Jewel(which is already a pricey place). The older female didnt greet me at all when I entered, the said its a $5 minimum for visa so I had to get something else. Some frozen corn, more than double what jewel,target etc sell it for. I go to get rung up, she takes my card and then spends a minute arguing with a delivery guy about prices instead of ringing me up. I would love to support Mom and Pop places but this is one of the biggest issues with them. No sense of urgency whatsoever, no grasp of customer service, and terrible pricing. read more

I went shopping for groceries at Angelo's today. I was very upset that all the ppl working there had mask & gloves on except the owner who was working the deli counter. She did NOT wear a mask or gloves to cut the meats? I've been to other stores in the area and it seemed everybody had gloves and masks. I am very unhappy with Angelo's right now. I frequent the store to buy my meats and deli. I think it is ridiculous to make your workers wear the appropriate garb during this time of virus, but than the owner with no mask or gloves cuts the meats breathes on them and touches them and is oblivious to how dangerous and disgusting that is. As a matter of fact in normal times I've seen her workers wearing gloves at the deli. I am very disappointment and I will not be going back to Angelo's read more

What a great little find in Downer's Grove. Angelo's Foods reminds me of your typical neighborhood corner store for picking up those little extras you need for any meal or just because. They don't have a massive selection of goods - but definitely carry any essential you could want. Not to mention, they have a good size deli and carry some amazing Italian treats. The prices are low and fair and the service has always been friendly. The deli carries a variety of quality meats and salads - which I love. The produce is always fresh and reasonably priced. I ran into one issue once. I got a wrath of 'tude when trying to use a credit card with a purchase less than $10. The woman at the register threw a fit and swore up and down she couldn't accept it and that it was against policy. Luckily I had a few bucks in my wallet, but be warned - bring you dollar bills if you're making a small purchase. Overall though, with a focus on low prices, Italian foods, and fresh produce, what's not to love?! read more

I was impressed with my first shopping experience here. Angelo's, I'm hoping, will end my quest for the best fresh market I can find. What's great about this place is that it's small -- it's easy to find everything, you're not running a marathon if you need to pick up soda and produce (looking at you, Meijer!), and it just has that cozy neighborhood feel, from the old parking lot everyone complains about to the old-fashioned cash register. The produce is great! Why? Because they don't buy pallets of food at a time that sits out rotting for weeks! The small produce department is fresh because they only stock a few bunches of each item at a time. Best of all, I can get all of my fruits and vegetables without walking more than three steps from my cart! The meat is just awesome. You can tell everything is fresh. Don't see what you want sitting out? Have it cut fresh! You can tell they take care in their products. Even the center store items are fair priced, which is unusual for fresh markets. A few items are marked up, but what a great bargain all-around. The deli, likewise, is a bargain. You HAVE to get some Italian beef here. I can't wait to come back to try some of their other kitchen creations (they do catering too!). I wasn't hassled by salesmen, I wasn't grossed out by the quality, and when I went there (Saturday morning), it was properly staffed for the amount of people shopping. My company holds a yearly event every year for about 300 people. This year 72 hours before the event we decided we were going to switch things up and have it catered. I started calling catering companies and even places like Pete's fresh market. My mom actually reminded me about Angelo's. I called and was super impressed by their knowledge of how many people I could serve per catering tray,how to meet my budget guidelines better and their great prices. They even offered to deliver all the food for free! We saved at least $400 total by choosing them and again the event was just 72 hours away when I called them! We ordered 500 pieces of chicken, massive amounts of mostaccoli I cannot even remember maybe like 30lbs-40lbs of it? Garden salad, fresh cut up fruit, cole slaw, sub sandwiches, and everything was presented beautifully. The food trays were filled to capacity. The food was fresh &cooked well for example the chicken was juicy and crispy. The fruit was ripe fresh sliced fruit like strawberries, melons,grapes nothing from a can or jar. The garden salad was fresh and crunchy. Everything was wonderful! Our guests really enjoyed the meal and many people asked where the food was from which is always a good sign. Because they offered to deliver it to us our cold food arrived icy cold and the warm items were piping hot. We will absolutely be using Angelo's for our next event this coming Winter. They were wonderful to work with from start to finish! read more

What a great little grocery store, with a little extra, too. I've driven by this place probably 100 times in my life, and never bothered stopping in. Last Friday I decided to finally satisfy my curiosity, and I'm glad I did! $1.99 pepper and egg sandwiches for Lent on Friday? Yes, please! The store is definitely small, but it's a cool little neighborhood place that has everything you'd need to cook a few nice meals at home. They have a really nice selection of produce, all high quality and very reasonably priced. Being an Italian grocery store, they also have a huge freezer section full of high quality frozen pastas (think butternut squash ravioli, gnocchi, etc). Meat selection was good, and the deli was really the star of the show. I ended up getting a few pounds of italian sausage and some deli meats for sandwiches later. In addition to the pepper and egg sandwiches, they had italian subs, italian beef, and sausage sandwiches. It's a great spot to grab lunch on the go, or to take to work to enjoy as there weren't tables anywhere to eat at. Definitely a cool place- I'm looking forward to coming here again. read more

Great small local grocery store. The produce and meat are the main reasons we go to Angelos. Not only is the quality good, but the pricing is even better. I can't beleive the amount of food we get for the price. If you're the type that buys lots of premade things and does little actual cooking, head down the road to Jewel, but if you like cooking from real meats and vegetables Angelos is the place for you. The only cons are sometimes they don't have certain things or that you may not like their small selection on some items. For me this is a trade off I am completely ok with due to everything else being so great. Their sausage is some of the best sausage around by the way! Yum! We started shopping there 6 months ago and I doubt we'll be going anywhere else for our groceries from now on unless we have to. read more

The plusses: - Their Italian Beef is awesome! We've used it a few times for family parties, and it never disappoints. - The cannoli from the deli is great, too. Especially the chocolate ones. - Speaking of the deli - you can get damn good deli meat for half the cost of Jewel / Dominicks. The minuses: - $10 minimum on credit cards. C'mon. Really? You technically can't even do that per Visa, but I like everything else about your store, so I'll let it slide. - The parking not - I'm not sure if this is a minus as much as it is an adventure. read more

This WAS my go to place,I buy deli meat and chicken here. The fried chicken is great,deli is good and half the price of jewel. I buy many items here. This week we used them to cater xmas eve, Meat balls are bad,lasagne went into the garbage-not one person wanted it !!! The chicken was good. I was over charged on some items,I called-now the price was changed,when i called it in i was quoted a price,the day of everything was more (the web site still shows old price). This is/was a good Italian deli with lots of specialties made in house: broasted chicken, lasagna, italian beef, deli salads, but has since been under new owners/management.q pros: the meatballs, tomato basil salad, and house made pasta salads are still up to par. I haven't seen the warm potatoes or cauliflower in a while, but they were good; I don't know if they stopped with those. :( Cons: This deli used to have great broasted chicken but it has suffered, and the last few times I bought some it has been dried out and had a hard crust, that was difficult to chew. This place is just awfull. I went to the deli and the deli meat was expired. Disgusting.......GROSS.....even worse the blue cheese had mold on it. They sold me expired deli meat, and moldy cheese. Had not been to this store in many years because I do not live in the area, its obvious they changed owners. Its no longer a Italian deli. The produce was bad, celery rubbery not crisp, meat looked horrible. Who is going to buy sausage that is dark and old looking? I did buy a small container of kolacky that said home made, what a joke! When I took the plastic wrap off of the container and opened it the smell was horrifying. They were old, the filling was hard jelly like and they were starting to mold which could not be seen from the outside. This store is a food poisoning paradise if the owners don't clean it up. Needless to say I will be going back to Caputos for all my Italian needs. read more

Ok, first things first: This is a smaller market, not Jewel or Super Target. They do take credit cards, but there is a $10 minimum, so watch out for that. Angelo's has been at this location for as long as I can remember, and currently advertise in the DG reporter newspaper. Watch out for the sales, they are killer, especially on deli meat. I like to integrate Angelo's into a many store shopping spree for my produce. They don't have everything, but the things they do have are excellent. A great example is their homemade Italian sausage, which is sold both in hot and mild flavors. It's dirt cheap at around $2 a pound, but tastes awesome. Also, their deli meats and cheeses are tasty, fresh, and, when on sale, way below the cost of a chain grocer like Jewel. We're talkin' $2.50 a pound for name brand turkey versus $5-$6 per pound at Jewel. What a deal. They also have a great selection of French and Italian breads that are brought in daily. You can also find a wide selection of marinara and red sauces, pasta, and other Italian antipasto and condiments like giardineira. Another thing of note is the awesome 80s music that is piped in during your shopping experience. It's possible this is satellite radio, since they have some obscure hits being played, and I've never heard a commercial. Anyways, to sum it up, I go to Angelo's for their fresh meats, cheeses, and breads. Go there if you want to make a nice Italian homemade meal for cheap! read more

Angelo's sits on the corner of Maple and Belmont with one of the absolute worst parking lots, but has a great deli and good meat. It's an old fashioned grocery store with a little bit of something--you can buy cleaning products, but I wouldn't recommend it(not much of a selection and much higher than the big box stores). The produce section is small, but decently stocked and they do carry beer and wine. They have an on-site butcher who will answer questions for you and prepare meat the way you request. He also has some specialties which I've tried and are pretty good. But I come here for the deli and ready to eat Italian dishes. I've found out the deli-type grocery stores in this area have phenomenal prices for lunch meat, cheese, etc.--at least 30 - 40 % cheaper than Jewel's or Dominick's! The selection is usually better, specially if you're looking for ethnic flair(only one type of potato salad, but olive salad, marinated artichokes, fresh mozzarella). Angelo's hits the mark in this area. The deli is usually busy(be prepared to wait if you are shopping on a Saturday morning), but the staff is quick and knowledgeable. Angelo's also offers different ready-made foods. They always have a sausage & peppers on french roll, Italian beef(better than many other places that are much more expensive--under $3), Italian roasted potatoes, fried chicken. That's the quick menu. They also offer lasagna, eggplant or chicken parmigiana, chicken Marcella, stuffed peppers, mosticolli with a red sauce(also meat balls if you want them)Out of the items I mentioned, the most expensive is the chicken Marcella and that is under $5 a POUND! I've picked it up on sale for under $4. Oh, and they carry the obligatory Italian butter cookies, homemade cannoli, both traditional, minis and dipped in chocolate and my favorite: Tiramisu($3 for a piece that is large enough to feed 3-4 people--or me if I'm depressed). I can actually feed a family of 4 a decent meal(salad, entree, dessert, and of course, bread--must have bread if we are dining Italian) for under $25-30! read more

I shop here as often as possible. Their deli counter is the best, and their Italian sausage rivals other popular Italian delis. I recently got take out for a family party and was very impressed. The eggplant parmigiana was wonderful, and they made up a fresh batch of fried chicken while we waited. The mini cannoli are just the right size and are not too sweet.
