Running early for an appointment at route 34 motor sports, I decided to pop into Fresh Thyme Market to grab a gluten-free cheesecake, chocolate, and some fruit. Ambitious? Successful, thanks to help from the staff. David asked for help and we followed someone across the store to a freezer case marked "gluten free." We were about to change the plan completely when suddenly a man appeared --huffing and puffing and bearing gluten-free cheesecake! He had sprinted to a far corner of the store, grabbed the only known gluten-free cheesecake in the store, and sprinted to catch us. Yay! Thank you so much for that extra care. I could shop happily at just at this grocery store for the rest of my life

I'm a HUGE fan of the Fresh Thyme Market in Downers Grove! I recently shopped there for the first time, and I was extremely pleased with the produce, meat, and overall selection. In fact, there were many items that I purchased at Fresh Thyme that I could not find at other local grocery stores that I typically shop at. And of course, I appreciate the wide variety of organic items. The only drawback about this store, however, is the cost. When shopping here, you'll be paying prices close to Whole Foods' prices. Once again, I figured being a "boutique" grocery store that the costs would be a bit higher, but I thought for the amount of items I purchased that the cost was much higher than if I were to shop at somewhere such as Jewel-Osco. Nevertheless, I am a happy customer and will be shopping here again - great products and customer service!

This brand-new store was hopping on a week-end, and it's not hard to see why. It combines all the best aspects of a gourmet grocery with reasonable prices. The store seems spacious, but a lot of that is due to lower shelves; the actual floor space was quite crowded, especially on the week-end. And I will tell you right now that parking really sucks. Despite these flaws, Fresh Thyme has a lot going for it. It does have a nice atmosphere (when I asked the friend who came with me what he liked about it, he said succinctly, "It smells good." Apparently the notes he discerned were "bread, chicken, cinnamon and soap.") They do carry these products, and more. There is a large area of ready-to-go food (salad, sandwiches, sushi), as well as a made-to-order pizza counter, and salad and big antipasti bars. (Olive lovers, take note.) The deli stocks Boars Head products. I particularly loved the presence of the large and broad-ranging bulk section! From granola to nuts to candies to coffee, there are tons of options and iterations. There are also tanks of oils so you can choose the amount you want (maple syrup can be tapped here too!) There's a modest but well curated grocery area whit many specialty items. Meat section was nice looking and affordable (and check out the tons of sausage varieties!) There are lots of choices of wine but not too much beer. I was surprised that for a place with the subtitle "Farmers Market" the produce section wasn't more diverse. What was there was nice, though. Service at checkout was very polite. You can also get the option of paper bags. Overall, you likely can't do all your shopping here (like most "gourmet"-leaning grocery stores, the selection of more practical household items is lean), but if you're looking for a "nicer" grocery store this is a good choice. Smaller than Marianos, less niche than Whole Foods, but more affordable than Fresh Market or Standard Market. It's about time we got a place like this!

Love this grocery store...but they are the only one in the area that does not bag your groceries when you provide your own reusable bags. :(

If you can't find a reason to visit this market, make on up. Whether you're in need of produce, flowers, food, meal prep, gifts or just a reason to get out of the house. I was most surprised by the amount of quality textiles, jewelry and clothing. There were a lot of oohh's and ahhh's while walking these booths. You have your typical farmer's market vendors but then so much more. I have to give honorable mention to Eternal Buzz Coffee. The wife and husband duo, Rachel and Vito, run this amazing nonprofit. This booth was too hopping not to notice! They were not only whipping out amazing authentic British scones and real Italian roast coffee drinks, but they were passionate and so very genuinely kind. I got a whole run down about the market from Vito and some great recommendations to try.

Every year there also seems to be more vendors added. Prices are pretty high but that's to be expected at markets. There's plenty of free street parking and a parking garage nearby. There were three vendors selling coffee, multiple bread/pastry vendors, fresh produce, empanadas, toasts, two flower vendors, multiple jewelry vendors, clothes, frozen fish, crepes, lemonade, cheese, sooo much to find. If you go later in the day, most vendors will probably mostly be sold out. At 1pm there was still a lot left though. Today I got a vanilla cold brew from Activitea ($7), a cherry croissant from a French bakery I forgot the name of ($4), and sourdough loaf from Momma Bear's Bakehouse ($11).

On the plus side: local farmers, local businesses, live band, kids' activities, on the premises of The Promenade Bolingbrook mall - so plenty of parking plus if you need to shop at the mall you can do both. Lots of people, which is great! On the not negative side: in our eyes, a farmers' market should promote local, family-owned, small businesses, not huge corporate chains. We were disappointed to see there were a lot of chain restaurants in their own booths, promoting/serving their food. Yes, there should be hot food served at the farmers' market, but it should come from local restaurants. We probably won't come back. We decided to stop in and check it out mostly because we saw the signs coming out of IKEA. Overall, not a bad experience, but not fabulous either.

I have gone here for over 20 years, and during most visits I have not been treated well. The ladies have been unhelpful, or closed-mouthed when answering my questions, and just simply unfriendly. Perhaps they are just over-worked or tired. At least that's how I justified their off-handed treatment of me, and my continued patronage over the years. So I put up with a fleeting moment of mistreatment. But today, that same old bad attitude appeared after I asked a simple question during my visit, that could've been answered more directly & easily. I questioned myself why do I even bother, especially when their produce isn't superior to other places I can go, to get farm fresh produce. There are more farmer's markets around, such as McDonald's Farm at Knoch Knolls Park in Naperville. Maybe my visits were wrapped in (wannabe) nostalgia, or due to convenience of location. Whatever, today I hit the top of my tolerance for their rude-ish treatment. This decision should have been made after an earlier visit this summer when a cashier looked at me crazy because I did not leave an electronically-produced request for a tip. For what?? Standing there just doing your job ringing up an order??? And lastly, their produce isn't the tastiest, and is really overpriced in comparison to other places around. I guess I kind of felt sorry & wanted to support the place. But no more. I am finally done. Fed up and moving on. Mayneland Farm is no longer an option for me.
