I love this grocery store. Similar to Whole Foods that they sell healthier options. A must try is their honey roasted peanut butter. You use a machine to grind peanuts while you are there. Moved here recently and started shopping here regularly because of the location. I went in to buy meat and the butcher was beyond rude to me that I left the items on the counter and walked out. After reading other reviews this seems to be a trend with rude workers. I really hope the store manager reads this. The male butcher with false eyelashes was arguing with me about what I ordered to the point where I left the store purchasing nothing. You should really reevaluate who you employ, it's obviously costing you business. read more

Running early for an appointment at route 34 motor sports, I decided to pop into Fresh Thyme Market to grab a gluten-free cheesecake, chocolate, and some fruit. Ambitious? Successful, thanks to help from the staff. David asked for help and we followed someone across the store to a freezer case marked "gluten free." We were about to change the plan completely when suddenly a man appeared --huffing and puffing and bearing gluten-free cheesecake! He had sprinted to a far corner of the store, grabbed the only known gluten-free cheesecake in the store, and sprinted to catch us. Yay! Thank you so much for that extra care. Here's what I LOVE about Fresh Thyme: 1. Not too big, not too small. I hate ginormous super centers (Sorry Target, you're online only for me) But big enough to have departments that have the right amount of stuff each. 2. Merchandising and display. They build displays around meals (i.e. chili night, pizza night). We love the seasonal updates to the big wall of La Croix! 3. They do seasonal very very well. In the fall the front is overflowing with pumpkins, mums. The bakery always has holiday themed treats, etc. 4. The staff is great! So friendly with kids and adults. 5. They don't to try to be bursting at the seams with every category, but what they do have is good quality. Kinda like Whole Foods meets Aldi. 6. The tiny carts for kids! read more

I'm a HUGE fan of the Fresh Thyme Market in Downers Grove! I recently shopped there for the first time, and I was extremely pleased with the produce, meat, and overall selection. In fact, there were many items that I purchased at Fresh Thyme that I could not find at other local grocery stores that I typically shop at. And of course, I appreciate the wide variety of organic items. The only drawback about this store, however, is the cost. When shopping here, you'll be paying prices close to Whole Foods' prices. Once again, I figured being a "boutique" grocery store that the costs would be a bit higher, but I thought for the amount of items I purchased that the cost was much higher than if I were to shop at somewhere such as Jewel-Osco. This store reminded me of sprouts. The prices were a little high and the selection of produce items were slim. I was not offered help while I was looking around, which may be cause I was the only African American in the store possibly? The location of the place was nice and it was easy access to the building from the street to parking lot to store. Great store. Lots of free samples. However I feel I was discriminated against in the self-checkout line. I'm ringing up my items and this worker comes and micromanages my entire checkout process and stands over me as I pay. I had very few items and she felt the need to "help me". There were elderly people nearby who could've used the help, I did not ask her for help. And in doing so she was very passive aggressive, stepping in front of me and waiting to watch me pay. Small grocery--it looks much larger than it is. They have a nice bakery with some great looking breads. Amongst them were olive bread, sourdough, marble rye, asiago, and more. The olive and rye were pretty tempting, but I ultimately went with regular old sourdough. Their deli sells Boar's Head meats, which seems increasingly difficult to find in the city anymore. (At least, the three or four regular places I would purchase it don't sell it any longer.) They had a new flavor of turkey that I tasted a bit of and ended up picking up a bit. Most of their items seem to be organic / private label / small batch items here. Prices are slightly higher here, I'd expect it's partly as a result of this. You won't find many, if any, mainstream brands here like Pepsi, Lays, and so on. When I was here, there was a food truck in the parking lot selling duck burgers. Don't know how often something like that happens, but if you don't want to go shopping on an empty stomach, you just might get lucky. read more

My girlfriend lives a vegan lifestyle and she isn't familiar with Illinois grocery stores that cater to her specifications and needs. This was the first place I reccomend her to go. Though I haven't been to this location personally, this location is outstanding and definitely gave us more than what we were looking for. Staff is friendly, respectful people, great prices too! This brand-new store was hopping on a week-end, and it's not hard to see why. It combines all the best aspects of a gourmet grocery with reasonable prices. The store seems spacious, but a lot of that is due to lower shelves; the actual floor space was quite crowded, especially on the week-end. And I will tell you right now that parking really sucks. Despite these flaws, Fresh Thyme has a lot going for it. It does have a nice atmosphere (when I asked the friend who came with me what he liked about it, he said succinctly, "It smells good." Apparently the notes he discerned were "bread, chicken, cinnamon and soap.") They do carry these products, and more. There is a large area of ready-to-go food (salad, sandwiches, sushi), as well as a made-to-order pizza counter, and salad and big antipasti bars. (Olive lovers, take note.) The deli stocks Boars Head products. I particularly loved the presence of the large and broad-ranging bulk section! From granola to nuts to candies to coffee, there are tons of options and iterations. There are also tanks of oils so you can choose the amount you want (maple syrup can be tapped here too!) There's a modest but well curated grocery area whit many specialty items. Meat section was nice looking and affordable (and check out the tons of sausage varieties!) There are lots of choices of wine but not too much beer. I was surprised that for a place with the subtitle "Farmers Market" the produce section wasn't more diverse. What was there was nice, though. Service at checkout was very polite. You can also get the option of paper bags. Overall, you likely can't do all your shopping here (like most "gourmet"-leaning grocery stores, the selection of more practical household items is lean), but if you're looking for a "nicer" grocery store this is a good choice. Smaller than Marianos, less niche than Whole Foods, but more affordable than Fresh Market or Standard Market. It's about time we got a place like this! read more

They have a ready-to-eat section, a fruit section, a dairy section, a meats section, and others. You can literally find anything you need here and all the things you are using daily. This place is very organized, clean, neat, and well-maintained. All of the items are perfectly aligned and stocked. You can easily find all the things you are looking for. Their staff is very nice, friendly, helpful, and very attentive. You can freely ask them anytime if you are looking for something. They will guide you and help you to find the things you need. Very accommodating staff. They are knowledgeable and well-trained. No wonder why a lot of their customers either old or new, they keep visiting and shopping at this place. I love this fresh thyme location. They have a good variety, everyone is very friendly- people at the deli counter, the meat counter, and check out. They always accommodate when I use my own bags and ask for no plastic. And sometimes even load my cart up for me! Their meat and produce is some of the cheapest around. Other products like boxed food, and cleaning/household supplies, I do purchase elsewhere because that stuff is pricier. But it's mostly organic and high quality. read more

All high quality products. The parking lot is crazily packed on day 1. Staff seems friendly in their mist of heavy traffic. Many organic choices!!! The vitamin, supplements and alternative skin care section is just fabulous. Price is on the very high end compared to other local grocery or even trader joe's. Mehhh. Fresh Thyme is okay. The Downers Grove/Westmont area is getting WAY saturated with grocery stores. Fresh Thyme has some cool dry products i.e. bulk grains & spices, and good refrigerated packaged foods i.e. yogurt and milk. However, the produce is extremely disappointing. Every time, I struggle to find fresh berries. I got grape tomatoes here this week and they turned to gross mush in just a couple days. The green stuff like lettuce and brussel sprouts can be browning and wilting. Sad. Isn't it in the name "Fresh". Come on!!! I would imagine this place to be like a farmer's market-hippie mix with fresh fruits and veggies, humus, and hemp soap by the name and the store front. But no. One thing I will say, is that they have good and reasonably priced meats and deli foods. I got two stuffed pork chops the other week for $3 each, and they were a delight. It's one of those places that has good stuff, but you will have to make multiple grocery trips to get everything you need. To me, that's annoying, and not very competitive to the local Jewel. A great grocery store when you don't know what to buy. Let the Good deals and special prices guide you. The produce selection is fairly basic, but something is always on sale. They have a great fish selection, and we especially like their swordfish! They carry boars head deli meat. If you like to make your own trail mix, or you're serious about making things from scratch, they have a huge selection of spices and singular ingredients. The only knock I will give this place is their bread selection. Though it was initially very tasty, We have had focacctia bread mold after 2 days. Maybe that is why it was on sale. Overall the prices are probably a little higher, but I can't stress enough that the sale prices are worth scooping up. I feel like this smaller store adds to a more pleasant shopping experience. Side note: Their rotisserie chicken is $7 per bird, and nothing special. read more

WOW, Do I miss Caputos, Downers Grove. Returning from vacation I needed a few replenishment staples. Heard how 'terrific' this place was. First walked in, nice layout, impressed, even greeted by an employee as he walked by. Took a cart started to go up and down the aisles. Another employee asked if I needed help, I told her no, and she said welcome to the market. O.k., so now going up and down each aisle, looking for what I need. Ginger ale, jello and these items can't be found. A lot of weird stuff and gluten free items. Looking at the prices and my gosh, extremely high! Over to dairy area. You need a personal loan to buy milk products! Holy crap, the prices were extremely high. Milk is the dame people, comes out of a cow. Helloooo! No need to pay an arm and leg for milk. Hurry back Caputos. I can buy milk at Walgreens, Aldi and EVEN Jewel a lot less. Well since I use to ennoyCaputos produce, I thought I would peruse this produce section Again a bit high in price, but the quality, well let's just say I wouldn't like to have the ingredients in my body. Now I understand why there were not many shoppers in here on a Wednesday afternoon. I left without purchasing anything. My recommendations. unless you are willing to take put a personal loan or mortgage to shop here for non-brand food and awful looking produce, stay away. Not worth your time or money. There are other reasonably priced grocers around with higher quality merchandise than Fresh Thyme. Why, even a ma and pa grocer is less expensive to shop at! Love Fresh Thyme. This is the place to get conventional and organic produce. Great value - it tastes like the produce should and it's a much cheaper option then Whole Foods. I'm a huge fan of their seafood. Wild caught shrimp on sale is a fantastic bargain. I purchase a few pounds when it is - fresher then what you get at a traditional supermarket, I use these in everything - quinoa, skewers - and I make a mean Pad Thai with them. They're excellent. Their tuna and swordfish are wonderful as well - when they run a sale, it's great to have the option of eating good quality seafood on a budget. I'm a fan of their sausage - and when you're looking for buffalo, they offer good value on frozen. Prices on organic chicken are a bit better then WF - but packaged as smaller portions. Feeding a crowd means you'll need to grab a few. Probably not the place if you're looking to buy bulk on meat. Fresh Thyme is designed for people who are being mindful about their eating habits. Cheese here is good - although Joes is a bit more expansive. Bought on sale I am a big fan of Tessemae's blue cheese dressing - and they have some good organic offerings at a decent pricing. They have a great vitamin and health section. Expansive, and less expensive then the competition. I am a fan of Fruitful Yield as well, and many of the selections you can get here for a fraction. During the winter months, they run a big sale for 33% off - this is generally a good time to stock up or try out things that you've been watching. I recommend that when shopping on a budget that you use their ads. Released on Tuesday - it's a great way to save some money planning around what is being featured. Wednesdays are double ad days - which means you get both the current weeks sale items plus those from the coming week as well. It's a good way to eat well for less. Just be sure to go as early as you can - because many people shop on Wednesday they do run out out. Which is a great way to maintain good rotation. I have recently visited their Forest Park location which is just as great as their Downer's Corporate. I have never had food spoil or go bad - always happy with my purchases. read more

I'd give 3.5 stars to Fresh Thyme, rounded up. Fresh Thyme seems to aim for the same market segment as Whole Foods -- an upscale, healthy alternative to traditional grocery stores. I don't think it works quite as well as Whole Foods, as both the selection and amenities in-store are limited. However, what you will find inside is of good quality. I've tried a number of their prepared items, including hummus and salsa and they have been very tasty. I had a curried chicken salad a couple of times which was absolutely fantastic. The Christmas holiday brought me a couple of intriguing bars of scented Fresh Thyme soaps that I look forward to trying. I believe they don't actually smell of thyme, but I haven't scrubbed up yet. While I've not really "grocery shopped" at this store, I'm a huge fan of their bakery, particularly their cake slices. I went to school in the area and those cake slices were great comfort food during stressful times. Very fresh and delicious, just the right amount of sweetness - not too overbearing and not too little. One particular cake slice was the best, I'll be visiting again soon to find my favorite. Just visited this place for the second time this past Friday. The first time I came here was the second day they were open, and it was chaos...but I just could not wait to visit. I picked up a few things the first time, but needed to come back to really give this place a better look. I stopped in around 3:30 on a Friday, and it was a good time to do some shopping. Last time I was here I noticed some competition with Caputo's since I had just left there... Caputos had blueberries on sale for .88 and this place had them for .77, so competition like that - there is a sales flyer so be sure to check it out in advance. For stuff on sale here in terms of fresh and organic foods - they have some GREAT deals which definitely surpass "Deals" at Whole Foods, though things that aren't on sale, aren't really a deal at all - I found myself picking up some of these items though like Yogi Tea k-cups just because I have never seen them anywhere else, or Nuun tablets for water, just because I've never tried the grape flavor and they had it here. I agree that the parking isn't great, but both times I've been here I scored great parking, only good luck making a left back onto Ogden...the odds are low. To give you an idea of what shopping is like here... I'd get the small shopping cart at Whole Foods, leave with a brown paper bag full of items where my cart wasn't close to being full...and I'd leave easily with $50 or more in items. I had the same size cart literally filled to the max and layered with items and spent a tad under $100...I got some good quality stuff like boars head lunch meat, bison burgers, etc. so I didn't mind spending here, also because I got some pretty great deals in the process which would have cost more elsewhere. read more

I went a few days after opening it was jammed, prices great, I had purchased bakery, deli, chicken, fruits, veggies and some wine I was thrilled was only concerned about parking. Second trip I asked for boars head ham which I only get boars head asked for thin, gentleman showed me a slice I said perfect I get it home it's thick and fatty which boars head is not I swear they gave me a different brand and charge for boars head! Purchased the grass fed beef that on the package says previously frozen well how fresh is that??? Change your name to frozen thyme!! Yesterday was my fifth visit and probably my last. Went for the specials and was blown away that someone would cut NY strip steaks that crapy! I walked out went to Caputos! They are opening stores all over... Fresh Thyme Market is wonderful because they have the healthiest products compared to the other grocery stores around. The store is always clean, properly organized and fully stocked. A really big store has spacious aisles and it is always smooth even if there are many people inside. They have an amazing selection of produce as well as organic items and it was always fresh and fully stocked. The dry goods on the other hand here are great quality with fair reasonable prices. Even though I go here mainly for the fresh fruits and veggies, I am also able to have my overall groceries for my house. I also love their bakery with freshly baked goodies that are perfect for breakfast. Another thing is that they have friendly and helpful employees. There is a long line at the checkout sometimes but it was fast. I really enjoy buying groceries here. Highly recommended if you love healthy goodies! read more

How many grocery stores does Ogden Avenue in the west burbs need! We have the obligatory Jewel, Standard Market, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Caputo's and now Fresh Thyme. The store is nice, the employees are nice. If you are afraid of gluten because your best friend tells you it's scary and to avoid gluten like the plague then you will love this store. This place is crazy with non-gluten free stuff. They have cool, hippie soaps. They have a brand of frozen pizza straight from Italy that I adore. Cool store. The farm look is what brought me here. Produce prices are kind of high, a lot of cool selection of candy and coffee beans. I like the craft beer selection. Looking forward to see more of these stores pop up in the future. Employees are friendly and helpful. For the most part you can find everything you need with out having to ask.
