I went to the Jewels on Ogden in Naperville. Went to the meat department to purchase catfish filets. The sales clerk attitude was dry as a cactus! I will be returning to Whole Foods to purchase my filets. I don't care about the attitudes. I care about where I spend my money. read more

I would say I am a frequent shopper at Jewel in Downers Grove. This is a beautiful jewel outside and has many food options that other jewels don't offer. BUT The bathrooms are disgusting !!! These are grown adults and WORKERS using the women's bathroom and I can't believe the MESS that they make. It makes the bathrooms almost inoperable. I at least come here 3 to 4 times a week and I have not ONCE seen workers or management clean the bathrooms, sanitize the bathrooms, or let alone, mop the bathrooms !!! All they do is refill toilet paper and paper towels. I understand that cleaning bathrooms is an undesirable task but when you are running a busy store ( and in a Pandemic) YOU HAVE TO CLEAN THE BATHROOMS!!! If they so badly don't want to do it the RIGHT way, then hire a cleaning crew. Management should be embarrassed of these photos !!! I wish I could say that is all but it's not, I have been in the woman's bathroom and not only heard, but SEEN, workers NOT wash their hands !!! You are touching produce, restocking shelves, handling seafood and meat !!!!!!! It makes me sick !!! It's so unsanitary and management needs to do training for those employees that seem to not understand hygiene or cleanliness. I stopped by this jewels on Wednesday 12/21/2022. To say that I was upset would be an understatement. Someone should be checking the fruit to make sure it isn't expired. I payed almost 13 for pomegranate seeds that were on sale. It's my fault for not paying attention to the fact that they were expired. As soon as I peeled back the plastic to open them up I smelled a sour scent letting me know they were bad. Take them off the shelf if they are old. A remarkable level of incompetence consistently achieved. This Jewel is famous for marking items on "sale" on the shelves and not following through at the register. When I asked the store "manager" to refund the difference at the service desk, I was challenged if the item was actually on sale. Even after walking over to the item, taking a picture of the sale label, and showing her, she still wasn't sure if it was on sale. THIS JEWEL IS GREAT AT FALSE ADVERTISING AND RIPPING PEOPLE OFF! This store so discourages the use of their own reusable bags that I now have been accused of stealing bags I brought from home 3 times.

I figure that I've left some other low starred reviews that I could forgo a poor rating for my local jewel but I stopped short of the 5 stars I gave to caputos... You must make sure to ask what fish was frozen and what was not. I went in a couple times and didn't realize almost all the salmon was already frozen arrrggghhhh Some of their prices are kind of high... Some R kind of low. It's jewel. You have to go in and really look with no coupons. However generally they're plenty to be found in the paper. Sometimes the folks at night are kind of quiet and standoffish by simply starring at u and not saying anything... I've cooked the salmon lobster shrimp and they've never disappointed me. read more

This Jewel-Osco on Ogden in Downers Grove is so close to home. We have lived here for more than 25 years. I love the staff I know there . Although I no longer do all of my shopping here, I run in about once a week. Tonight after work I stopped and this sweet young guy went above and beyond customer service. I have been so disappointed every trip to Jewel. This most recent... my husband got raspberries. He inspected the container. It looked ok. I have been going here for 15 years and yesterday was the last time. I now shop at Aldi. The cashier combined 2 customers bills together then tried using a calculator to figure out each bill. The manager got involved and wanted the cashier to rering up both customers. I waited 15 minutes with a full cart on the conveyor. The cashier then told me to go to another line. I told her I am not loading all my stuff in the cart again. The manager should have opened another register and taken care of the customers there. The level of incompetence in this place is amazing. We have shopped at this Jewel (Ogden & Saratoga) in Downers Grove since we moved here about 18 mo.ago. Since Covaid-19 and the Illinois requirement for face coverings in grocery stores, we have shopped there several times without incident. Unfortuamtely this morning, my husband encountered two women who were shopping without face coverings. When he asked her to put on a mask, she was belligerent. He reported the situation to an employee who did nothing. Since this store clearly isn't concerned about the health & well being of their customers or Illinois State requirements, we will never shop there again. read more

As far as Jewel-Oscos go, and along this strip of Ogden Avenue, it seems they're extremely plentiful, this one is far superior to the others. Or, perhaps, this one is just closest to my house and I can zip in and out quickly for last minute things. Truth is, I'm not much of a Jewel shopper. Their prices are on the high side, so I tend to do my real grocery shopping elsewhere. But to grab a few things, or to throw together a last minute dinner I will often stop here. The highlight is always the chicken. They really do know fried chicken at Jewel. And they offer it here later than some locations, which I appreciate because my wife and I tend to eat later on weekends. Service is always friendly. Shelves are stocked. Good selection. It's enough to make me happy. If they'd lower their prices to be more competitive, I'd certainly shop here more based on location alone. read more

So when I'm there with two kids I can tangle them and bag my own groceries bc the checker is just winging them down the line and then yelling at me for payment. read more

This Jewel is fine if you have a few things to pick up. I frequently stop here on my way home from the gym. I would not recommend this jewel if you have your weekly shopping trip to make. They don't carry a lot of items, or are out of stock on a lot items. They did not have the good Eggland's best eggs, the potatoes had mold or were growing new spuds, and I could only find one good crisp bunch of celery and all the others were flimsy. Also good to mention would be that the store is very disorganized. They rearranged all the items over a month ago, but they haven't moved the signs to match where the items are. Unless you know the store, you will be writing back-and-forth and probably spend twice as much time here as a place where they are actually have properly labeled groceries. I will not return to this store for my weekly grocery trip. I'm going to go to the jewel that's literally 2 miles down Ogden instead, where the selection is more robust and produce is fresher. read more

This is probably the Jewel where my classmates and I frequent the most for grocery, alcohol, I-Pass, etc... They have a big parking lot, friendly and helpful staff, and everything is fresh, stocked, and good price. I like that they always have sales on everything, if not one brand, then another. And it rotates every week. The location is near Starbucks, Chase, a gas station, and various restaurants so you can conveniently get a lot of errands done in one trip. They're currently doing a promotion where every $10 you spend, you get a sticker for this chart and once you get 160 stickers, you get free pots and pans. Nice little incentive for frequent, loyal customers. read more

Have lived in DG for many years prior to moving to CA, and love this place. It has been remodeled and advanced to a huge store over the years. They always have tons of food items to choose from, and love the makeup/beauty aisle. Love the cheese/meat area, such a selection. read more

This Jewel is OK, except for their produce, which is why I'm giving 2 stars. My husband and I recently moved to Downers, and this Jewel is close by. However, we've been noticing a serious lack of quality when it comes to this Jewel's produce. To the point where I basically have given up on it. Either they're being too rough handling their produce or they're not stocking well, but it's too expensive here to keep buying it. My last straw was buying strawberries and having to literally throw away half the container the very next day because they were mushy. When I was a commuter worker in the suburbs coming in from the city, this was my go-to for my lunchtime shopping. I would come here and stock up on whatever I needed during my lunch hour, and let the winter chill of mother nature keep everything refrigerated in the trunk of my own car. Great selection here, and really helpful staff. They got to know me a bit and were really good about making sure I could get checked out and on my way as quick as possible. Their produce section is pretty darn good. I remember stocking up on apples here more than once. Good location, fair prices, easy parking. Arrived at the pharmacy to get several prescriptions for my father. He has a lower respiratory infection and obviously needs some medicine. I showed up at 5:58 on 3/4/17 Saturday and the pharmacist refused to sell me the prescriptions. She stated that the computers were turned off. Terrible customer service. read more

I've been going to Jewel on Saturdays for the last 3 years just for the sale on their great salad bar. However, just in the last 10 months, I have seen the sale price rise from 2.99/lb to 3.99, and just yesterday to 5.99. What gives? I would also spend 50 to 100 dollars on additional items per visit. Now that I have no reason to go to Jewel anymore, I will just do my shopping at Walmart or Target where I can get the same name brands for a third less. read more

Go to the Ultra Foods on Roosevelt for much better prices. This place closes at midnight most days, and you have to use the exit doors to enter after 10pm. Kinda stupid, everything is usually pretty easy to find here, they carry most stuff I go shopping for. read more

Tonight at 630, I'm off from work. So I decided go to this jewel to buy something. When I went inside, I saw lots of beautiful roses and different colors. So I decided buy 2 dozen roses for my wife. After, I went to soda isle. Before I went there, I saw my 2 favorite person. They are Stephen and Nichole. Stephen saw me and say hello to me. Then I ask him what will you buy to ur girlfriend on valentine's day ? He said I may buy a box of chocolate, a beautiful valentine's day card and pink roses to her. After I said to Stephen. I said wow you are spoiled her and ur girlfriend will love it so much. He said hopefully she likes it. 10 more minutes, I saw Nichole come to Stephen. They hug each other. What a romantic couple. For the most part I like this store, but not the Deli dept. The deli people do NO like to help customers!! The other day I was standing and waiting to be helped. There were 3 people behind the counter doing cheese plates, making sandwiches and chicken. No one helped me!! This has happened many times to me and my husband.
