We had the crabball appetizer, which was outstanding, two dinner entrées, the 17 pc shrimp dinner included your choice of hush puppies, garlic toast, or a roll and then you still got two sides, sides were also excellent, a large portion size Philly cheesesteak dinner with a side, two mixed drinks from the bar, and phenomenal dessert. If I could make this zero stars I would. I'm a local and I'm telling you ... don't bother. These new owners know nothing about the restaurant business. They only care about making physical improvements and selling (obviously because they're for sale). The way they treat their staff is horrible! The pricing has doubled and the quality is a joke (want southern Cole slaw, good luck ... and pay $1.50 for the substitute). Don't waste your time. It's not often that I come to Welaka, the last time I was here I noticed this place and although time didn't allow me to stop in I figured at some point the opportunity would present itself again. Well today was the day, we walked in a little past noon to find the restaurant about half filled, we grabbed a seat at table 13 and we were immediately greeted by several members of the staff, everyone one was friendly and inviting and Sue was our server, a wonderful person, and so neighborly. The menu board was populated with specials, a list of sides and a few soups, the beverage service includes Coca-Cola products, sweet tea, lemonade, beer and wine and more. I debated on having a cup of the Shrimp & Corn Chowder but I knew my lunch entrée probably wouldn't allow it or one of the delicious desserts in the display case. I ordered the 17 Shrimp Special fried Florida style with two sides (Lima Beans and Coleslaw) $13.95 and we also ordered the Fried Catfish Basket with Slaw and Fried Okra for a modest $10.95. The food was delicious and the atmosphere at this cozy little restaurant exemplified excellence - the interior was very clean and free of clutter, the exterior is perhaps somewhat mis-leading it's definitely old Florida charm but may not project that allure that's pleasing to all but believe me it's a genie in a bottle and that delicious meal you're wishing for is waiting inside... read more

Arrived after dinner hour on a Saturday night, and the music was hoppin', as was the vivacious bartender. I was served a generous Gin and Tonic with lime...Oh was it EVER generous. When done, I felt as if I'd had two large drinks. Half way through the drink, my cowardice began to wane, and I ordered the "gator tail" not knowing what to expect. First time trying it and I have to say it was pretty tasty....Like a cross between shrimp and chicken breast somehow. It was deep fried, with batter, like popcorn chicken. Shrimp R US and More has been a fixture In Welaka for years. They are a full restaurant and Tiki Bar right on route 309 and has plenty of parking. I don't party anymore but the bar side seems busy after night! The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers seafood and southern cooking. Service is always cheerful and excellent . We have eaten here for years and with a few exceptions we would judge the food above average. The fish sandwich is huge and always good. We loved the 17 shrimp French baked. Now, even though it's still on the menu, they have taken it off the POS. So, now you can't get it. We are very disappointed as this was our favorite dish. We came specifically for this dish. We're much less likely to come back. Also, their hostess is also severely lacking. We stood there for 5 minutes waiting. Only to find out she was in the office right next to us the whole time. We were talking, so it seems unlikely that she didn't know we were there. Then she comes out and doesn't want to seat us at one of the ten available tables that we could see. She wanted us wait for one of the tables in the front room. Made no sense. We complained until she finally sat us in the new section. There were three waitresses working there and several tables. So, it was definitely not closed. read more

Finally got around to trying out Shrimps R Us in Welaka and to see how the new owners are doing: D- The building itself is beautiful. New siding outside, new flooring inside. They opened up the area past the restrooms and it looked great, although we weren't offered to sit there. Which would have been nice because it was much cooler back there. They also installed a full bar inside and it looks amazing, top of the line. New decor and a couple of large flat screen tvs to round the new look out. It's unfortunate the food is so bad. The real reason for going to a restaurant, after all. Ordered the "special", a country fried steak with mashed potatoes and fried okra. Along with a burger and...chips. $25 All frozen US Foods Inc garbage. The country fried steak was a small, thin and tasteless frozen product. The fried okra was the same but under cooked. And the mashed potatoes were freeze dried, reconstituted and bland. I also experienced a small bout of intestinal distress almost immediately due to the potatoes or gravy I'd guess. mishandled, probably left over from the day (week) before and temperature not properly maintained. I will say that, at least, the deep fry oil was fresh as there was no strange taste to the fried okra or "country fried steak". The burger, while made from beef, and not soy or something, was very bland. Not a hint of seasoning, fortunately a bit of table salt helped. Even the drinks were bad. Not brewed tea but rather a powder or mix from a machine at the bar and a coke from the bar's soda gun. If you've never worked in a bar or restaurant, you may not know that the syrup to CO2 mix at the bar is not the same as a fountain drink machine. That's because typically a bar's soda is mixed with alcohol and they turn up the CO2 so you can taste the alcohol better. (Makes you think the drink is stiffer). Very common practice, what's not so common is serving that soda from the bar to regular diners. I didn't drink either and had a bit of difficulty getting it removed from my check. In all a very bad experience with a hefty price tag for the frozen slop that was served. Hard Pass. Do people seriously not eat their own food they sell at restaurants? If it's not fresh, it's not for me. I can reheat frozen food at home and expect better than that at a restaurant that charges $13 for a lunch special. read more

I gotta say I like this place a lot. Seafood meets country cooking and it is a good combo. The place is absolutely huge when you take in the inside and outside areas. Service was a bit slow and we had a wait for our food, but it all worked out just fine. I got one of the specials, 17 shrimp and 2 sides. The sides are all deep south country cooking, I got mashed potatoes and lima beans, but the real star side was the fried okra which I pilfered off a few friends plates. The shrimp were great fried just how I like them with cocktail sauce. The prices are so low as to defy comprehension in this day and age. Overall a great meal and an amazing value. Country food that is light on your pockets. Welaka! Getting ready for a day out on the boat in the country starts with a breakfast here. Walking in I was feeling a little iffy since the first open table big enough to fit our party was besides a UM mural on the wall. I knew I was in gator land but didn't think I would be double teamed. But I was properly supported with a Seminole on my back so we slide into our seats and greeted by a new server. Although new, she was extremely helpful when taking our orders and filling us in about their specials. I fueled up with their Corned Beef Hash breakfast special. It included scrambled eggs, toast, and bacon. By the time everyone's food came out (which was no time at all) we had a feast of eggs, grits, hashbrowns, biscuits, gravy, omelets, corn beef hash, sausage, bacon, etc. They have everything! Breakfast was so yummy! At one point I just had to stare around and make life decisions on how I was gonna get up. When I finally get enough energy to go to the register my meal is under $4! Thankfully I have cash because you need to spend at lease $10 to use a credit/debit card. Nothing like a great, country, stress-free meal. read more
