3 stars ONLY for the food. I have NEVER EVER had bad food from Angels. But. We always order ahead and go in to pick up when it's ready. Always a good experience. The ONE time I tried to go in to sit down and eat, I took a group of friends that were new to the town. Thought i could show them who had the yummiest burgers in town. Sadly, we were treated like a hassle. I guess 6 guests is too many at once for them and they didn't know if the kitchen could handle the order? I really don't know. I just know there was a lot of attitude and it was so unpleasant that I don't even feel comfortable stepping foot into their establishment again. I have been driving my car and riding my motorcycle past this diner for the last twenty years, and not once have I ever stopped in. I finally decided that this had to be fixed, so for lunch I finally stopped and got some food. Walking in, this diner has definitely been here as long as the sign says. The architecture is old, the roof is sagging, and there is a solid feeling of age about the place. However, this is not bad. Everything was clean and tidy, the aromas of food were good, and the wait staff was friendly. I initially sat at the counter, but a table opened up and I was able to move there instead. I ordered a cheeseburger with some fries and a coke, which is just the sort of thing that you should have at a diner. The coke was there for me from the start, and I did eventually get a refill. The burger and fries were excellent. No pretentious buns, or a burger that stands too tall that you cannot eat it without disassembling it to fit in your mouth. This was just a solid burger that I really enjoyed, and the fries that came with it were good to the end. I am somewhat sad that I waited this long to go here... the place is quite good, and certainly worth the stop! read more

Fun old time meal in a historic setting. The shakes are wonderful. Service was fantastic. The fresh onion rings were amazing. The burger was good. I tried to go here after Sunday service with my family. The wait staff didn't respond to us. I had to go back to the car to get something for my daughter to play with. In the parking lot, I saw the same people from the kitchen in the back parking lot smoking marijuana in a big SUV. Smoke was everywhere. I immediately had to take my family elsewhere because this place doesn't care for common human decency. Never coming back. I thought this was supposed to be a Palatka landmark. read more

The service is matched by the quality of the food. I had a mushroom Swiss burger with the trimmings. The slaw relish is quite exceptional as it elevates the burger. No other place around has this available. The onion rings are freshly cut and battered, and you get two complimentary ones with your combo. A Fun Throwback Angel's is the very model of an old dining car. The menu is true drive-in, even though I couldn't see any drive-in service. This dining cars flies of the track here and there, but generally delivers...to your table instead of your car. Inside was a great, long counter and a few tables, but the AC was cranked so high that we opted for outside under cover. The wife had a nice salad with grilled chicken and I had the 1/4# hamburger platter. The fries and onion rings were good and the burger was delicious. We shared a chocolate shake to go. The place fails a bit when it comes to service and appearance. Two servers were kept very busy, even having to make the milkshakes themselves. And a little more time and attention could be given to overall cleanliness and repair. To really be and old dining car, everything should gleam and be in good repair. This is a twice a year stop for my fishing crew. Its usually breakfast which is always solid. On my last stop I tried the French Toast and it was very good, done but still moist and not too dry. My son who is not a breakfast eater wanted a burger and so they made him a burger. Service is always good even though at times there is only one person waiting tables and the counter. read more

Awesome diner has one of the freshest burgers you will have. Not some preformed frozen beef patty. The burgers come with amazing onion rings on the platter. Since this was Thanksgiving day they had a special turkey dinner for $12.99 and since we were camping we thought we would take a couple of turkey dinners to go. I suggest being there when they open, if you want a table. Counter space is cool, though... you may get a stool that lists to one side, working your core muscles to keep from falling off. Throwback diner from the old days. A roadside attraction for those who want to experience what is left of the old days. Service is average as expected. No problem there. Food is of general diner food quality and the coffee is diner quality too, so there is no problem there. All of that is to be expected. Prices are average too. A good place to make a pit stop, especially if you are doing road travel. Though, depending on which time you come, you might have to wait. That is to be expected too. Angel's Dining Car brags to be the oldest diner in Florida and we were happy to grab seats at the counter for lunch. John and I were hangry after our morning hike and refused to wait over an hour for a table at another local hot spot restaurant. Once we were inside we quickly found the cheeseburger combo that came with fries, onion rings and a soda all for under $9!!! Yes please. I piled on the toppings (except onion) and John just went with meat and cheese. We both added bacon for $2 and waited for our meals while listening to good music. They were packed inside and out and have drive up & park- window service. We blinked and our food was out and we dug in. The onion rings were hand cut and battered- sweet onions perfectly cooked. Fries were delicious and the burgers were spot on. Service was quick and efficient. The servers seemed to work together to make sure everyone was covered. Sitting at the counter you tend to just watch everyone work around you. They were busy for good reason! I'm happy we opted for burgers! Next time- we'll have to get milkshakes! read more

This was one of my toughest reviews. This place is one of the coolest authentic diners and that says something. It was quite crowded with locals which is always a good sign. The menu had the classic griddle cooked burgers as well as some fried dinners. I was intrigued with the bone-in fried porkchop sandwich. Seriously bone-in? Maybe another day. The milkshakes are delicious and service is excellent. I wish to score it higher but it was just okay to me. Not to say though that you might like it. It's a true diner. Pulled up on a Sunday drive, and waited 45 minutes for 3 hotdogs kids meals and a "crab cake sandwich" which was literally dry white bread with a previously frozen mediocre crab cake on it. They call us "snow birds" old folks that travel to "God's waiting room during the winter. Angel's supposedly the oldest railroad car diner in Florida is located near the Palatka bridge which spans the St Johns River. This spot reminds me of a diner where I worked in upstate NY fifty years. I remember flipping burgers and pancakes and serving bacon and eggs with steaming mugs of coffee to men heading for work. The lunch and dinner crowd enjoyed meat loaf and fried chicken and of course good shakes. You can travel back in time and experience the same tastes and ambience right here in Florida. We have been wanting to eat here for years, but our trips through Palatka were always to events where food was involved, so we always said "Next time." Well, Saturday finally was "Next time" so we made a special side trip from our errands to eat here. We were NOT disappointed. It's been years since I've been in a true dining car and loved that you can still see it (many others have had so many additions, the car part is buried inside the building). Yes, it's old and worn, but it was clean. In fact, the bathrooms were cleaner than most even if they were super tiny. My husband and I each ordered the cheeseburger platter (platter comes with fries & onion rings). My daughter ordered a bowl of cheese grits and a short stack of pancakes. The onion rings were awesome, with a very light, crispy batter and the fries were just perfect. The burger was great. Cooked a smidge over medium, but still juicy and flavorful with just the right amount of condiments. (The mustard relish was an interesting touch.) The cheese grits were served in a soup bowl instead of the usual little bowl you get at most places. They were excellent. The pancakes were thick and yellow, fluffy and delicate, and melted in your mouth. Oh, and we ordered a basket of corn nuggets to start off with. Served just out of the fryer HOT and they were delicious. I had a very definite idea of what I wanted from Angel's Dining Car and I got it. A heap of nostalgia and good food and really good prices. If you are in the area, or just cruising through, I recommend you swing by. (Afterwards, take a look at the historic district right behind it, there are some lovely Victorian houses and a nice marina.) read more

I had the fried chicken special which was good along with the price. The only drawback was the service. Once I got my food no one came by to check how everything was or if I needed a refill. I had to flag a server down for a refill and it felt like I was bothering them. I didn't tip. Even single diners can tip pretty well when the service is on point. read more

Another Successful experience. Half of the enjoyment is that you are eating in an old school diner car. Friendly staff and good Southern hospitality. I recommend hitting this place up if you are driving thru Palatka. Burger was good, toppings fresh, onion rings a good extra. Must order the platter to get two onion rings. The server argued about how long it takes to cook a burger and then walked away as I was trying to explain that it doesn't. Own your mistakes, say it got sent to another table or the ticket was lost. This classic dining car boasts historic charm with lovely stained glass windows. Service and quality of food could improve. We sat at a booth by the window, and a waitress soon took our drink order. We weren't ready for a food order yet, so we said that we needed a minute. There are also picnic benches outside. A new waitress came and took our food order. I ordered the omelette patty with veggies and ham inside the patty. The patty was from frozen and was extremely salty. My dad's black bottom sandwich was the same. We didn't get silverware for the fried okra (which had good flavor). I had to get some from behind the counter. I took our ticket to the cash register and paid there. The restrooms are outside attached to the building and relatively clean. There's a key that's needed to access the restrooms, and their behind the counter with the waitresses. It was nice to see the original diner built in 1932, but I won't be returning. read more

Walking into this place we decided too sit outside, the tables were full of condiments left by previous customers and trash can was so full you couldn't put nothing in it, so too the customer service aspect was the worst ever wait 20 minutes for drinks after ordering waited 30 minutes for our food the food came out cold and there so called fresh cut frys were definitely not fresh cut , so too get drink refills and too pay I realized there was only 2 people sitting inside after I payed no one said thank you have a nice day or come back again , I'll be hitting McDonald's next time I want that kinda service I do not recommend this restaurant at all read more
