Since it was hot out we decided to get lunch and go to the movies. We were visiting from Sonora since our theater closed. While the Angel Theatre had plenty of charm, the place was disgusting! The lobby had no trash cans and there was miscellaneous stuff scattered everywhere. The bathrooms looked like they had not been cleaned that day. The theater seats were covered in who knows what, tables and cup holders were disgusting. Not sure how this happens but even the movie screen was filthy! You could see the dirt and water marks running down the screen. To top it off the staff looked like they hated their job. The place got busy and there was only 1 person helping. This theater has so much potential but seriously lacks management or owner direction! This place looks like it hasn't had a thorough cleaning in a long time! I felt so gross and grungy afterwards I couldn't wait to take a shower. read more

Ordered tickets online to an R rated movie for me and my 16 year old sister, they wouldn't let us in since I'm not her (parent/guardian) and when giving us a refund they skimped us 4 dollars. So don't recommend if you are 18 with younger friends or siblings and live far away... waste of gas money and 4 dollars. read more

We used to absolutely love our lovely Angels Camp Theater...until the management changed. Our family would go with our children to see movies for over a decade. Now, all of our kids are adults and in their mid 20s. We have gone to the theater multiple times since the ownership change and have been extremely disappointed. The manager there is downright rude and the theater isn't clean. We have been treated as if we were an inconvenience rather than a paying customer. Two of our boys who are in their mid 20s went to go see a movie this afternoon and were turned away because one of them did not have an ID. They had seen a movie a week ago. It was obvious to any seeing person that he is not under 17 years old. Many of our friends refuse to go there any longer because the manager has been rude to them as well. Cute theater. My kids, myself and my son's girlfriend had a great time. However, we had to wait for our hotdogs and the staff delivered them to us inside the theater minus the chili we requested on top of them. The popcorn was good. We will go again. I understand the staff running the theater were young and I applaud them for doing their best. read more

I went to see a movie today and our movie was supposed to start at 4 pm. At 4:25 pm they turned on the sound NOT the screen. Finally at 4:30 they turned on the screen. Horrible experience. read more

Went today to see a movie and was disappointed with quite a few things. The theater was so dark when trying to find seats and when leaving once the movie was over. People were reaching for their phones to light their way up and down the steps. There were a few elderly folks who seemed very unsure of their footing trying to navigate. I also noticed none of their emergency exits signs above the doors were lit. This seems like an OSHA violation? The movie itself seemed dark as well. The lobby was is dire need of some attention. Information signs posted were ripped, displays were randomly placed here and there, and it just appeared to not be clean. This is all such a shame because this use to be a great place to go. read more

Small town movie theatre with historic gold country murals in the large theatre. Reclining seats, and you can buy beer.

Tonight we took in a movie of Puss 'n Boots in theater #5. This only seated 17 people but the chairs were comfortable and reclined electronically along with a footrest. It seems like they were possibly recent upgrades. They were the nicest seats in a movie setting I've experienced. The seats also had swivel desktops that reminded me of something we had at school in junior and high school years. One minor drawback is when seated one sunk in lower in the chair than was ideal. They also had admission and popcorn prices were seriously so reasonable compared with theaters in metropolitan areas. You would of thought they were throw back prices of a bygone era. A welcome choice to visit. read more

Probably one of the worst experiences I have had at a movie theater! They had been having issues playing the film Wicked all day and knew that it would cut out early. Everything needs improvement. 1. Website has different times. 2. Kids at front counter would rather play than help customers. Phones are more important. 3. Stale popcorn and flat. 4. AC was out--- super hot our legs were sweating & sticking to the chairs. Popcorn was stale. They made another batch but it was the worst popcorn i have ever had. The movie stopped and the screen turned black with only like 10 minutes of the movie left. We all had to walk out and ask what was going on. Soda machine was broken. No soda available. They were Out of all the "combos" and out of large popcorn bags. Absolutely horrible! read more

Here we go again! I get there with 3 year old daughter to watch wicked at 5:45pm and they notify me when I walk in that something broke so they won't be showing the movie till an hour later at 6:45pm. I decided to wait with my daughter. We got some popcorn and candy and I saw the "Wicked" merchandise and asked if they would be available to buy AFTER the show. The girl at the concessions said "Absolutely". So we went on our way. After the movie I walked out and pointed to the merchandise and asked my daughter to pick which one she wanted, the young boy behind the cash register said that they can't sell that because they are technically already closed. Which means to me that they already closed out their register and just didn't want to open again and we're in a hurry to get home. I've worked in retail. I've worked as a receptionist. I get it, but when you have a three year-old standing there pointing to something that she wants and you don't have the heart enough to reopen your register, which would take maybe five extra more minutes it's absolutely ridiculous especially when you said they would be available for purchase AFTER the show. The young kid even claimed that he walked away to go ask his manager, and his manager also declined and said that the girl who said it would be for sale after the show was mistaken. I shook my head and walked out with my daughter. We will NEVER be returning. This is the second time I've been there had issues the first time tried to give it another chance. We recently hosted a private screening of our movie at Angel's Camp Theatre. Everyone had a wonderful time (fantastic seats!) and we couldn't have done it without the Cinema West team. Well....this was always are go to with the friends and family even though there seemed to always be some kind of issue with the screens, snack bar, etc.....but not anymore! We have heard from neighbors and read all the bad stuff/reviews online but we're ones who like to give the benefit of the doubt and make our own decisions. We purchased tickets online for an afternoon movie, got ready and drove almost an hour to this theater for a long overdue enjoyable day. We arrived only to be told that we had to be switched to another screening room due to the a/c going out....which sucked but we understand that things happen (we were under the impression that this just occured) apparently its been an issue yet there was nothing on the website about this to make us aware prior to buying tickets! Anyway, ok another movie room, whatever. Then we're looking at the seats left and ask the cashier, Jonathan (is the name he gave) young, skinny, I believe male...about the seats due to the only ones being available aren't together but all scattered throughout. Johnathan states...yeah well that's what we have so...or we can refund you! We were flabbergasted not only by this inconvenience and disappointment but more so by his awful, cocky and uncaring attitude. We explained to him how unacceptable that is for our party to all have to sit apart and asked why this isn't posted on the site warning patrons. He blamed the web team and shrugged. He just kept talking over us and offering refunds. That doesn't help that we all took the day off for this and drove pretty far. Then as if his cockiness wasn't enough he made getting a refund extremely difficult and continued to be confrontational by rolling his eyes, making comments about "well we didn't sabatoge our own ac, smirking at us, mocking us, etc. We brought up that we can see why there are so many unhappy reviews lately and he LAUGHED. You will definitely run it into the ground with a kid like this. Not a single apology, no shits given, no professionalism, no problem solving skills. Horrible. This is not the first time he's done this because we've seen issues posted on FB as well. As business owners ourselves, this is extremely unacceptable. You lost 12 of us as customers over this crap. I'm blown away this kid still has a job there with his mouth and attitude. Yikes. Even upon leaving there was a wonderful gentleman and his wife outside discussing the same issue and astonished that they witnessed the employee behave that way. Hello again to all my readers out there! Here I am once again posting another review. The time has come to review the movie theater in Angels Camp, California. My beautiful wife and I went on a double date with some friends of ours. I used their cinema west app to buy our movie tickets for the 18:10 showing of Twisters. We arrive 25 minutes before the showing and thats when everything went south. We all walked in and I was informed by one of the employees that the grand auditorium was closed because of no air conditioning and the projector broke. The lady informed us the next showing of Twisters was at 19:15 or I could get a refund. Did they try to contact me in anyway to let me know of this situation? NOPE! I been going to this theater since I was a kid and a guy named Jeff ran the place and not once did this happen. Anyway back to the review. Since there is only two tables in the lobby of the theater and both were occupied we all had to wait outside in the 100+ degree heat for over 90 minutes! After waiting in the heat the time came for the movie. We all decided to get some popcorn and drinks and they could have given this stuff to us for free after all the inconvenience but they did not! Out of common courtesy you think they would have! They crammed everyone into theater 5 which is tiny! The movie itself was good but the movie screen the projector projects on was extremely filthy and had a huge dirty spot on it that ruined the movie experience for all of us. Angels theater used to be a treat to go to in my younger days now whoever runs it doesn't care about the customers. They only care about the money. In my opinion is very sad indeed! The only positive about the whole experience was the chairs in the theater are recliner chairs and way better than the chairs at Regal Cinema in Sonora, California. Everyone can only hope they get everything figured out quickly because I would rather drive to Modesto and see movies in IMAX than to deal with that Bullsh*t again. 1/10. read more

*Update - Someone reached out to me and updated me that each theater has different seating, and also that some of the rooms are downstairs! Their recording when you call states the accessibility so you're good to go! Eh... Weird movie theater format! An outdated version of what we're used to in the Bay Area but in general, It was a pleasurable experience. We found out that the person who works there used to be a Bay Area local! The theater has all of your fare such as popcorn etc like a movie theater offers and also sells wine and beer! Has limited theater seating rooms. Also, word of warning - If you have trouble climbing stairs or if you are in a wheel chair, this theater may be a problem for you. I did not see any accommodations for the disabled in there. If I am wrong, please theater management, correct me or address my comments on this. This theater is a bit dated and has limited seating. Maybe 36 people max in each theater. But prices are great though and as said employees had a great attitude so it was nice to visit read more

Also the popcorn was great and prices for food was not as high as the big city theaters. No question the best part was the staff.... I am not one to write a negative review. But....What happened to this once wonderful little hometown theatre?! My out of town guests were excited to see a movie there tonight. It was a disaster. The theatre floors were dirty and riddled with popcorn. There was a tray of burnt popcorn sitting on top of a full garbage can. The woman's bathroom was filthy. The lobby was completely empty, except for two wooden pallets leaning against the wall. Not even a seat for my 91 year old father to sit and wait for the movie. On top of it all the theatre was freezing cold. We had to ask someone to turn off the lights after the movie started, and it took them 20+ minutes to figure out how to do it. They shut the movie off before the credits rolled. The staff barely acknowledged patrons. It looked like the set of From Dusk to Dawn. On a positive note... the seats are very comfortable. read more

Charming old school theater in Angels Camp. There is a small town feeling coming to this movie house where there are no long lines, but locals who make you feel welcomed to their theater. The popcorn tastes much better than a lot of big theater chains. I would definitely come back next time we are in town. For being such a small theater - not a bad seat in the house. We live in LA and sometimes pay for discounted shows with seats that don't even recline. I love this little theater and the owner, so personable and attentive. I am legally blind and they have audio description headphones and they make sure that I know how to use them and now hand them to me as I come in. They also work for people who are a bit hard of hearing. The owner once told me that he uses organic popcorn non-GMO don't know if they currently still do but taste awfully good. So happy to have a theater in our small town and oh my gosh now they have the super comfy recliner's as well old town charm with wonderful amenities. read more

Just watched Downton Abbey at the theater, small venue with an amazing experience. The manager is amazing, friendly and made you feel at home. Definitely taking care of patrons.
