I actually came to like this theater after paying for a monthly pass. It's small and quaint. Reminds me of the 1980s where going to theaters was all the rage. I think of my time spent working in the forest around the area and it was nice being able to visit the theater once in awhile. I was often alone in the theater and that was just fine with me. Pulled up expecting a little Disney magic. Got a museum exhibit from 1999. But the staff? Absolute angels. The VR is honestly the main problem. The graphics are not "retro charming." They're "did this render on a calculator." It's giving PS1. It's giving early Tomb Raider triangles. Pointy mountains. Flat water. Characters moving like they're buffering. I kept waiting for it to level up and it never did. It felt less like immersive VR and more like I paid to watch someone's unfinished game demo in a headset. And that's what makes it frustrating. The seats and the setup scream "this is about to be Soarin'." Like Disney California Adventure. Wind. Depth. Realism. That feeling where your stomach drops and you forget you're in a room. Instead I got "high tech seats" attached to low-tech visuals. Like putting a spoiler on a Prius and calling it a race car. The experience is clunky too. The motion doesn't match the visuals well enough to sell the illusion. So you're not transported. You're just... aware. Aware of the headset. Aware of the chair. Aware you spent real money to time travel backwards in graphics history. This should be breathtaking. It's barely "interesting." It's the kind of VR where you start roasting it mid-ride. Quietly. To yourself. Like, "oh wow, look at that polygon. She's thriving." If there was a "skip cutscene" button, I would've pressed it with my soul. Now here's the twist. The staff is the best part of the entire place. Super helpful. Genuinely kind. Patient. They felt bad that the VR wasn't hitting and you could tell they were trying to make it right with hospitality alone. That's rare. They're the reason I'm not giving this place a full villain edit. Restrooms were decently cleaned. Not sparkling, but respectable. Minus a couple moments that made me wash my hands like I was prepping for surgery. Bottom line. Come with zero expectations for the VR. Like subterranean expectations. If they ever upgrade the content, this could be amazing. Right now it's a tech tease with bargain-bin visuals. Staff deserves a raise for carrying the whole thing on their backs. It's giving... Avatar prices with Minecraft graphics. It's giving... Soarin' from Temu. read more

Movie Theater was clean and snack reasonable, my reason for the low stars. Is the crazy policy of having to buy a day pass to in order to buy movie tickets. This day pass is $18 and you have to buy it to buy tickets. Wife and I wanted to watch a matinee movie for $7, but cost $25 because of the day pass. read more

Hometown cinema were you are always welcomed. I am so grateful that we have the Yosemite Cinema to see movies. With the membership I can see one or more shows. They show the newest shows. They have all the favorite snacks. You can have a soda, water, wine. When I buy my popcorn they give me a free glass of water with ice. read more

Go for the movies but avoid the VR My family and I took a drive up to bass lake this weekend and saw all the people on the road advertising for VR Halloween experience. On our way home we decided to give it a try. For $32 per person, we were expecting a mind blowing experience. Unfortunately it was the exact opposite of that. The Halloween VR was super cheesy and all three experiences were poorly made. It looked like it was created by high school students. When it was finished, my son looked at me super disappointed and said, "my oculus is 10x better than that." This is NOT worth the $128 that our family had to fork out, especially with all the inflation. This was a gamble for us and we seriously lost. read more

My wife and I visited recently visited the Yosemite Cinema for the first time, to view Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One. The Theatre itself was exquisite. The patrons, however were not. As we entered Theatre 5, we took our seats. No sooner had we relaxed, when a snot-nosed twerp walked down the aisle and screamed "Max!" at the top of his lungs. His mother scolded him but the damage had already been done. The lights dimmed and we prepared to enjoy the cinema. The darkness was shattered with an eye-piercing light - not from the screen, but from the isle. I looked in horror as an elderly, dementia ridden couple struggled to find their seats while simultaneously managing to blind everyone in their sights with the LED light emitting from their cellphone. Once the movie began, things quieted down for a bit. However, stomachs soon got empty and bladders got full. One woman in front of us left and returned an innumerable amount of times. It is unknown whether she exited her seat to relieve herself, or to stock up on more artery-clogging snacks to satiate her never ending appetite. The experience in its entirety was a mixed bag. On one hand, the facilitates were well-equipped and comfortable. On the other hand, the seats were filled with uninformed, uneducated, fat, retarded, demented mountain hicks, who ruined the atmosphere. I couldn't determine if I was in a movie theatre or the livestock section of the Fresno Fair. read more

Misleading. The webpage says $5.50 for matinee... But in reality you have to have a membership of $16 just for a "day pass" for the first person and $5.50 for the second person. DO NOT PAY FOR THE VR EXPERIENCE! This was the biggest waste of money ever. The Yosemite one was super fake, horrible 3D graphics. The Halloween one was just corny and lackluster. The theater itself is membership based which is a weird concept in a tourist community. The sound in the theater isn't great and I could hear the movie next door playing throughout the film which was annoying. We took our kids to a movie here today and it was a wonderful experience. The staff was so friendly and the whole process very simple. If you like avoiding crazy crowds, loud music, flashy lights and tons of distracting video games, this is your place. Plus, the matinee was SO affordable! I vacation in the area often and would love to visit here often, and would be a consistent patron, but I just am not desperate enough to support their whack pricing system. PLEASE change your pricing model to something simple, drop the "day pass" thing. By adjusting prices to a normal structure and making sure prices fit the quality of the facility I think they'd do better financially and customer satisfaction would be improved. read more

Holy crap! This theater is still around? I was curiously thinking about this theater the other day and my search online turned back a hit! I visited this theater way back in 2002 when I was on a camping trip near Bass Lake. I remember this theater because of its distinct size and layout. For some reason that's always stuck with me. I even remember the movies that were screening: Signs, Blood Work, Blue Crush, and Spy Kids 2. Wow, I'm peculiar. We saw Signs, my second viewing of it. Still a great movie. I'm sure this place has changed a tad since then but clearly it left a lasting impact on me. Great to see it's still in business! read more

The Met have done a fantastic job upgrading and improving a very old and aging theater! New seats, concessions, and projection has gone along way to improve the look and feel of this theater. I love the old town feel, and ambience. I love the intimacy of the theater experience, and will continue to enjoy this place for many years. If you go expecting a Edwards or large cookie cutter chain experience you will be pleasantly surprised at at how different seeing a movie at the Met is. read more

Not only has this theater gone from being a once total dive uncomfortable, unclean and bad soundproof auditoriums, to now spectacularly clean, the friendliest staff you could ever hope for and even reclining seats with good picture and sound quality, it is literally a one of a kind theater experience with the VR options. If you haven't you must try their VR. I have never seen it in any other theater. It's the coolest thing ever. You can watch a short film in Yosemite or Mount Everest and it's the coolest experience ever. Stacey the owner of this theater has worked so hard restoring it. At one point this place was in poor shape but Stacey was true to her word and fixed it up. What was once my least favorite theater is probably now my favorite theater in the entire world. Rather you want to catch the latest blockbuster or if nothing interesting is playing this place has something fun to offer anyone. It's unbelievable how hard Stacey's hard work has paid off. I am not from here but visit family in the area about once a year and once a year I literally cannot wait to go to this place. Even though I have my own movie theater this one is a special experience to be cherished. Whether you're a local or visiting this is seriously the coolest theater. Not only is Stacey wonderful and kindhearted as she is her son Chase who is a cashier/usher is one of the nicest people I have also ever met. I have said more than enough. I am hugely disappointed in this place. It's dirty, overpriced and the staff needs better training. I would recommend you train your staff to follow "your policies" for ALL customers. I was asked by staff to look in my purse. I obliged and I had candy inside, just like most people do. Maybe if a candy bar didn't cost $4.75 I wouldn't mind buying it at your theater. I was purchasing movie tickets, popcorn, and drinks, which added up to about $80. After I was told to take my snacks to my car, more customers came in, their bags weren't checked. I stood and watched them let women with purses, pay and walk in. Why? Shouldn't that be a policy for any customer with a bag or purse? I felt singled out and it didn't sit right with me. Staff also let a couple come in with 2 dogs that did not have service jackets on them. They asked absolutely no questions. I definitely will not return to this theater. That was my first and last time going to this theater. Do yourself a favor and take a drive to Fresno, it'll be a much better experience. *I have no problem with your policy, but do it across the board, don't discriminate. read more

For you to state that you "strive for great customer service and provide a safe and clean space for your visitors"... allow me to say again... "Customer service" we received: No one even looked at us, there was no hi, no welcome, no thank you, no nothing but uncomfortable rudeness. "A safe and clean space": Did you not read that part that said we almost left because we felt so weird and uncomfortable after having a stranger stick her hands in my Wife's purse and not explaining why? We've been to the movies before (other theaters) and NEVER have been asked to look into our bag. If the reason was to see if we had outside food or drink (because we still don't know the reason) ...my Wife was holding a bottle of water that she brought in with her. Nothing was said about the bottle of water. The whole situation was awkward and if this was the reason why you chose to check my Wife's bag, then your employees are not even doing their job. The environment was not good, we did not feel safe, we (once again) discussed skipping the movie and leaving your theater. Clean??? Did you read the part of the soda stained movie screen? "Enjoy films": I swear I don't think you read my review at all... awful seats, we heard the movie next door better than the one we were in. Your comment to my review is sadly laughable. People write reviews in the hopes that someone will listen and make things better, or to warn others from spending their hard earned money on something that is just not worth it. I'm sorry to say that your theater is just not worth it. But it has potential and if you choose to actually read the reviews that you receive (instead of providing each review with a generic response) and address the issues brought before you, you could turn it around. You're going to need better staff that are trained in customer service skills and better management that will implement new positive changes. This theater as-is, is sad. The strangest movie theater I've ever been to, by far. Met Cinema is a "member's only" theater, which means you have to buy a membership in order to see a movie. That membership costs $16, which is /far/ too much to pay in order to see a movie. However, if you come with a guest, the guest of a member is only $5.50, so the price oddly evens out, as long as you aren't alone. The cool feature is that a month-long membership costs around $20, which is pretty worthwhile if you live in the area and plan on seeing movies frequently. The theater itself seems to be a little older. There are two parts to it, requiring you to walk outside and around the corner to get to the theaters from a concession and ticket area. The inside of our theater was rather full, and the seats were fixed in place and the armrests didn't move. Oddly enough, the cupholders were on the backs of the seats in front of you. The stadium seating effect was too slight - if somebody had been sitting directly in front of me, I wouldn't have been able to see the screen as well. The worst feature was probably the sound quality - everything sounded a bit muted. Overall, the theater is a decent location, especially for being in Oakhurst, but would be a better deal for those who live nearby and are content with older theaters that have fewer features. read more

My family and I used to go to the Met frequently. We don't live in Oakhurst, but my parents do so we make monthly visits. Every month, we'd come up and if a good movie was playing for the kids, we'd all go. Sometimes my husband and I could have a date night and see a movie ourselves. The place was small and not exactly modern, but it was never crowded and it was convenient. However, times have changed. The cost of a membership doesn't make sense since we only see one movie a month (if that). Now, for us to go, one of us has to pay $16 for a "day pass" and then we get regular price tickets for everyone else. My date night with my husband is now $16 + $7= $23. A matinee with the the kids is $16+3($5.50)= $32.50. The website touts that this is cheaper than Edwards Cinema in Fresno but we're not from Fresno. We're from a regular town with a regular theater that is 20% cheaper yet is cleaner, has more films, more showtimes, more seats, stadium seating, and excellent service. We liked supporting the Oakhurst economy and it saddens us that the theater discriminates between locals that go to the movies all the time and those not from the area or ones that only see movies occasionally. For economic reasons, we now just see movies in our own hometown and just consider The Met closed to us. It's such a shame. read more

Fantastic! Amazing! The MET closed but was saved by the community and has been rebuilt, repainted and made DIGITAL. The have new state of the art digital projectors with HD and new 5.1 Dolby sound. The place is clean, the popcorn yummy, and there is a new coffee espresso shop in the Met Too; better but less expensive than Starbucks. The service is wonderful. They still have the classic style of seating that many love when going to a movie as the theater was built in the 1980's. The Met is a new membership theater. Members pay $19.95/mo or $34.95/mo for a couple. This allows you to swipe a "MET HERO" card and just walk in throughout the month with no cash and see ALL the new features (8-12/mo). The price translates to between $1.95 to $1.75 a movie! So, for a Netflix cost, you get to have the 30 foot wide screen with 5.1 Dolby surround sound. What a deal! You can still walk-in and get a day pass to see the movies. The person that gets the $10 one-day pass can then buy cheap tickets for all their group at $5.50 matinee, $6 evenings for Seniors, and $7 for regular evening admission. So for a group of 4, that translates to only around $8 per non member person for a matinee, still a great buy. All other reviews before this one do not apply, as the theater is refurbished and in completely new ownership as of 3/1/13. Go out there and see a movie at the new, magnificent MET in Oakhurst! read more

Really nice locally owned theater. Everything was well clean and that goes for the restrooms too. Being as this is locally owned, you need to have a membership which my cousin had and members are allowed to bring a guest that costs $5.50. We saw "The Lone Ranger" To me it seemed like "Pirates of the Caribbean" in the desert on horses with Depp doing his typical shtick. It was a fun romp but ran long. Don't be surprised if they franchise a few part 2 and 3. The best thing was the company of my cousin and plan on going again soon. read more

We are members of the Met Cinema. If you live within 30minutes I highly suggest you also become members. The theatre is an older movie house but shows all the new releases and often will bring back an oldie. They try to keep at least one kid movie playing each week. Most of the time you can find a cartoon (G movie) great for all ages, a PG rated movie still great for the family, and an R rated movie that you don't have to bring your kids too. We just went two nights ago to watch Independence Day. The popcorn was fresh. They allow you to purchase popcorn buckets made from thick plastic along with large plastic cups that you can bring back each trip and get a discounted rate on popcorn and drinks. We now own serveral buckets and several cups. We always order light ice because the drinks coming from the fountain are always very cool to start with - even in the hot summer months light ice is all we need. During our last trip I brought two buckets but really only needed one and planned to split. The staff will allow you to give them both buckets and they will fill each half way and add butter if you like - but, still charge you for one bucket. Yes, that makes sense but some places would never allow this. Being a member we pay a small monthly price and can see as many movies as we like all month long. It is perfect. read more
