    Salami sandwich
    Stephanie A.

Super disappointed in this spot! Popped in on a Saturday night for some takeout and got a sandwich and two slices of pizza. The person working was unprofessional and awkward and had questionable food safety practices. The food itself was fine but based on these reviews I expected so much more. The pizza dough was flat and flavorless and the toppings were sparse. The sandwich was decently sized (should be for $18!) but it was just okay and it just didn't pop. Add some lemon (or salt?) to the ricotta or a sauce or something? I could have made it better at home. Maybe it's cuter when it's nice out and you can sit outside but I was also unimpressed by the interior. If you want a good focaccia sandwich go to Montelupo in Sellwood. Best in the city.

This place is a hidden gem, and I'm so happy I got a chance to go before it blows up! The pizza was delicious and very authentic. My family called the business earlier in the day because we had a bigger party and they were super accommodating, and took our order ahead so they could have our pizzas ready when we got there. They offered recommendations and were overall incredible from the phone call to the moment we left. The ambiance was lovely and we didn't feel rushed at all. We will 100% be back! I can't say enough great things about this business!

I would give it 3.5 Environment: very small so not for large parties but you can always order take outs! There's also parking (free) which was very nice and convenient. Staff: took our order and made the pizzas for us from scratch. Food: I would say yes, it's home made and made for us on the spot but this is a fairly pricey place for pizza. Maybe I haven't been to a lot of restaurant pizza places so for me it was a reward-pizza day but other than that: 1. I forgot the name but it was all cheese. The cheese flavors were nice and not too heavy for me. This either had some white sauce or it was just completely cheese. 2. I also forgot this name but it had zucchini and meat. This one had red sauce and overall this was more flavorful than the other. I loved the texture of the focaccia-based pizza. It had a lot of holes so it was airy and crispy when we got them piping hot. I would come once in awhile as a special treat. Nothing was outstanding but all pizzas are good if they're made fresh, right? :)

I rarely write Yelp reviews, but Angola gets an enthusiastic one. It checked all the boxes--good location and food, charming and well decorated, Italian/Portland hip, clean, very reasonable priced, what's not to like? And the food, y'all! That's where Angola hit it out of the ballpark! I tried a slice of pizza and one of the "Bites," think a mini pizza in a muffin tin. Both were excellent. The dough was the real star of the show, light, airy, tasty, filling. Before leaving, I stopped by the restroom in the back. On the way out, I walked by a rack with 4 or 5 fresh focaccias still in their molds. Pasquale, the owner (I think), saw me and came over. Our conversation ended with me taking a focaccia to go. Tonight it was as incredible as the pizza. I'll be going back and taking friends.

Caprese salad (very fresh and tasty)

What an awesome place. Very reasonable prices, clean and comfortable environment and delectable food! I went with a friend and we shared a calzocino, a salami tortano, a slice of margherita pizza, and a caprese salad. Everything was scrumptious and had plenty to take home. I liked the calzocino best - love me some ricotta. But that being said, it was all quite good! Staff members were very pleasant and helpful.

Hidden gem in NW. The pizza slices, focaccia, and tortano (like a delicious savory muffin) are all excellent. They are friendly and bring the food to your table. The owners are Italian and they have indoor and outdoor seating.

The pizza is really good, the crust has the perfect chew and texture. I especially love that you can stop in for a slice, which is exactly what I did after running errands on NW 23rd. They had four different pies available, I chose the Luca which had ricotta and mozzarella. It reminded me of the pizza you get in Rome that is cut into squares and has a crisp crust. They also make sandwiches on their homemade focaccia. Next time I'll get the prosciutto, provolone and arugula sandwich which is large enough to share or for two meals. It's challenging to find a calzone in Portland, especially one stuffed with ricotta. At Angolo's, they have four types of mini calzones. The ham, mozzarella and ricotta is another on my must try list! They also make muffins with their pizza dough, incorporating add ons like olives and cheese into the dough and cooking in a muffin tin. Carb Heaven! Service is super friendly. There is a counter along the back wall with chairs so you can people watch, and two tables inside, perfect in todays scorching heat. Plus two tables out front. They also have their own parking lot making it super convenient to stop in for pizza or to grab a whole pie to go.

Cute little pizza shop on 23rd. I loved the by the slice options. Size-wise, they don't look big/ thick but they are actually very substantial - I think due to their fermentation process which is similar to sourdough but it's just not sour. Personally I really enjoyed the texture which is a little more chewy. The shop owners are very friendly. I recommend giving this place a try!

Great pizza, Great people! Love this cute little corner spot, you've got a nice open window for those lovely Portland days to pull up with a friend. The pizza sauce is so simple yet flavorful, they use the biga process for the dough, making a lovely crunch and soft interior. The Luca is one of the best pizzas I've had, didn't realize cheese pizza could be upgraded You can tell the owners have put a lot of time, consideration and love into everything from the location to the sauce!

Super cute little spot -- really does feel like you're in Italy. We visited Italy last summer and could not eat enough focaccia and it's amazing to find a place downtown the street serving fresh focaccia every day. Skip the grocery store and get your breads here! Everything they serve is so tasty and the staff are great

My partner and I stopped in and he got the Bosco- while I got the Margherita pizza. It was deliciously crispy and had the perfect bite. At first I was pleasantly deceived thinking that it was a thin crust but the middle was actually thick. The pizza had perfect air pockets making the pizza light and super enjoyable! Our order was taken quickly and the pizza was reheated and brought over to our table straight from the oven. The store doesn't have any available parking so it's neighborhood street only, but the walk is great especially for a late pizza date night. They have a handful of tables inside to be seated and enjoy your slice of pizza.

Picked up pizzas for dinner tonight. I can't remember the name, but the one with zucchini and ham is so amazing. My husband really enjoyed it. Got two pepperoni for the kids. The focaccia crust is very different than the thin crust pizza which is popular around town. And different than wood fired. The pizza all around feels very light and airy. The tomato sauce is a showstopper. I could just eat it by the spoonful. It's so light and delicious and fresh. Super nice service and quick service. Limited seats. Would be great to eat outdoors.

A slice of pizza, Lucca style.
    C M.

Angolo is the real deal. It's tucked away in the corner of a small outdoor plaza at the corner of NW Kearney and NW 23rd. Authentic Italian. Simple, fresh and cooked to perfection. I just tried their Lucca slice (pic). It was excellent. The price was reasonable ($6.00/slice) and the service was great. Everyone in the neighborhood should know a piece of Italy is around the corner! I'll be going back, guaranteed.

Dearest gentle readers,…read more A most scandalous correction must be issued how careless of me. The establishment in question is none other than the divine Grassa, a name that now rolls off the tongue with the same richness as its most indulgent fare. And oh, what fare it is. Here, along the lively stretch of Portland, one may witness noodles brought to life before their very eyes fresh, authentic, and handled with a confidence that borders on audacity. These delicate strands are then enrobed in a mac and cheese so decadently composed, so brazenly elevated, that it dares to redefine comfort itself. And just when one believes it cannot be improved enter the pig belly. Crisp, tender, and unapologetically rich... a finishing touch that transforms the dish into something whispered about in only the most exclusive of circles. Yes, dear reader, this is the sort of indulgence that lingers long after the final bite... the kind that ruins lesser versions without remorse. And so, with that final truth properly set, I take my leave once more. The tales of this fair city draw to a close, but not without leaving behind a most delicious legacy. Until our next adventure ever eastward. Yours most faithfully,
