Food is always top tier, got the boil for two and had leftovers, service is lacking but it's more so cuz this place gets busy. Maybe an extra server or two would get it up to five star. The music here is always on point, as well as the bar area and nautical theme. It's pricey but it's more of a date night/family dinner place anyway. read more

In town for business, looking for a place I could walk to from my hotel. The Angry Crab is located next to the Shilo Inn. It's a big restaurant. In COVID times, masks are required to enter. All the servers & bartenders are wearing masks & gloves. They are distancing seating patrons and the bar only has 8 seats spaced out 6ft apart. Service was quick and efficient. I enjoyed a margarita while waiting on my jalapeño hush puppies(so good) and the grilled shrimp bowl. The shrimp were good and the veggies were tasty. Overall it was ok. First time visiting, for our family's New Year celebratory lunch. This restaurant is housed within the Shilo Inn. I believe it just opened a few months ago, probably late summer. The place is really nice! On to our orders-- 1) hubby opted for the New Year's Eve special (he asked for it since the sign hadn't been taken down, and he got it). It had a combination of shrimp, lobster tail and crab legs, two potatoes and half of a corn on the cob--in some type of sauce. Hubby loved it. He suggested that this special set should become part of the menu, in order to entice others to give it a try. I, for one, am new to the concept of eating out of a plastic bag, using disposable gloves, and a plastic bib. Let me tell you--you will be very Messy while digging into that seafood in all its glorious sloppy sauce. 2) son ordered a pound of crawfish in a "my lips feel numb" level of spicy sauce. Obviously, from the audible slurping and sucking of the juices off the heads of the crawfish, I could tell he enjoyed it despite the Mess (and oh, what mess he can create all by himself). 3) our family friend went without the Mess--and ordered the gumbo soup (very spicy!), a piece of corn bread, and Cesar Salad. For being a seafood restaurant, we kinda wished they had added a bit of anchovy into the salad dressing. The way we have always enjoyed eating a Cesar salad elsewhere. 4) yours truly ordered the fried oysters--it was ok, it not amazing. I might try the grilled oysters next time. I also had the clam chowder--to me, at least, it could have endured a few more clams to make it stand out. I found myself wondering why both the gumbo and the chowder soups came to our table served in a plastic container (reminiscent of the same, exact containers you will use if you're getting soups from the grocery store. No joke. 5) they don't have a dessert menu, but we had to ask. Our sweet server, Sierra, mentioned that they had cheesecake, key lime pie, and a brownie--none of which was made in-house. We chose to share a couple slices of key lime pies. For what it's worth, they weren't half as bad. I personally feel that after all that rich seafood-y dining fun, you will find it necessary to cleanse your palate by eating a dessert. Which you can also get at Kneaders, just a block down from the restaurant. I will say this--Angry Crab Shack gives us an option of a seafood restaurant (there's the Red Lobster within the mall área, not that far from the Shack, too). You will miss the cheddar biscuits if you go with the Angry Crab. Although they do have the crusty bread bathed generously in olive oil, garlic and some herbs (for an extra cost). Red Lobster has the better clam chowder, no doubt. I didn't get the messy style of eating but I imagine it would make for a highly sensual dining experience (probably not on a first date, though LoL). read more

Went here as a family of 4 with a baby. Was disappointed that they do not have crawfish during crawfish season! Person who greeted us at the door said Phoenix gets crawfish, but Yuma doesn't?!?!? It's the only seafood place in town but there are no crawfish during crawfish season???? Appetizers and a drink from the bar were both sent out wrong. Feels like the staff is on auto-pilot because if you change anything from the menu (didn't want seasoning on edamame, ordered a whiskey), they messed it up Quality of food was equivalent to any other seafood place (think Joe's Crab Shack). so this is one of those order seafood by the pound and they double bag it and then steam it with whatever sauce and spices you want with it. You can also add corn and sausage to it for kind of a super Louisiana Crawfish boil. That's if you want crawfish. Shrimp in several different types of crab and all sorts of other stuff. We did clams which were pretty good in garlic butter. We did Cajun Crawfish with potatoes and corn on the cob and sausage which is kind of a traditional way to get it and they were okay. We also did some Cajun shrimp and they were pretty good. Everything is all a cart so we ordered two sides of the garlic bread and which are mini loaves and three squares of cornbread. The bread is so much fun to dip in some of the crazy sauces. Pro tip: take the scissors and cut 3/4 or 4/5 of the top of the bag off so it's a little more manageable to reach in and get stuff without getting your hands covered in butter or Cajun sauce or whatever you got going on in your bag. read more

First timer here for crabs or any crustacean. Angry Crab has the seafood boil which is your choice of 1lb of seafood with your choice of sauce and spice level. They also offer half pound add ins of shrimp etc. You can also add things like sausage, fingerling potatoes, corn and more. The seafood boil come together with everything in the bag including the seasoning. The also offer a few non-crustacean meals but I don't think they are as popular. As a first timer it's an interesting experience. You have to work for your food aka cracking, pulling and cutting through shells to get to the good stuff. You get a bib and gloves although the gloves are a bit pointless. The gloves tear pretty easily and you'll get through the pretty quickly. From what I saw it's better to get the bigger crabs, lobsters etc because they have more meat and it's easier to eat. The sauce was pretty good but a little bit salty. Thankfully I don't have any blood pressure issues The flavor was all pretty good and overall it wasn't bad experience. I don't like having to work to eat dinner but with good company it's a good times. The drinks are weak, just a heads up in case you thought they made them strong. The waiter was alright, we came in toward the end of the shift so I think maybe the wait staff was ready to go home. The price is expensive IMO but maybe it's fair for splitting a bag. Everyone at the table got their own boil. I'd go back with a group but I don't think the crab life is meant for me. read more

The two of us were quickly seated in a sports bar environment with 80's tunes humming lightly in the background. The walls were lined with panels where people scribbled notes and comments, setting a comfortable and relaxed ambience. We ordered two lobster rolls that came with fries as well as two appetizers: calamari and lobster crostini's and one drink. The total was $53.93 for everything. We were told that food would come out as it was ready to prevent it from getting cold and a different runner might bring it. The friendly staff delivered the crostini's first that had generous and large chunks of lobster. The lobster was juicy and packed with flavor and offset by crunches from cucumbers and onions. The mix of texture and flavors from spices like paprika made the five Slightly larger then Amuse Bouchée portions made for food that was eaten quickly. The highlight was the divine spears of calamari. The crunchy outside with a hint of seasoning and perfectly cooked squid is among the best I have ever had. It was like slices of squid steak that were tender and scrumptious. Everything was excellent. Consensus: For the price, we had great food for a good price with great service. I've had Angry Crab in Mesa before and I thought it would be the same. Very disappointing. We got shrimp, clams and scallops in the trifecta. It was so oily. I've been to other places and it never is soaked in oil and garlic paste like this! Would never come back here. We had to keep walking up to a waiter to get what we need. Not attentive at all. Great location, ambiance, and service, but food needs better seasoning. I've tried many places in California where I live and this is nowhere close to what I've had. I ordered 1lb of headless shrimp cajun style level 3 spicy. The shrimp had way too much garlic and not enough of everything else. Couldn't make it for dine in for Valentine's Day with my boyfriend so decided on take out, offered to pay extra for limes, salt and pepper that usually comes with every order, price wasn't an issue but they want to tell me they don't do that when I have this for take out on a weekly basis. Went there on a Friday night. Not crowded, seated immediately. We have never been there before but our friends had and they raved about it. Our waitress was pleasant and explain the menu to us. We decided on the dinner for two which had two lobster tails snow crab king crab and shrimp along with the potato and corn. We were extremely disappointed. For $125 we got one tiny lobster tail each I would guess no more than 4 oz. Several shrimp possibly a dozen at the most. Nothing had flavor, just spicy. Lobster so over cooked it was difficult to get out of the shell. A very overcooked potato and very overcooked corn. We got one snow crab cluster and three king crab clusters about 8 long each. And we asked for the garlic seasoning. As we had never tried it before we asked for mild. It was definitely not mild. And tongue was burning several minutes after eating. We were given no utensils to eat with or the requisite plastic bibs. When we asked for utensils and plates we were given one plate for four people and Three forks. When we asked for crab crackers the waitress needed to check to see if any were clean. It's very frustrating when a waiter tells you "they will be right with you" and decide to help a table that literally got seated right after us. How does that even work???? The Gumbo was served in plastic ware with a stainless steel spoon, which appeared odd at first but the Gumbo was so good, that it didn't really matter. - we also ordered the crispy shrimp basket which was pretty good, as well. But let me tell you about their by the pound dish that me and my husband had: We asked for a pound of the EZ to peel shrimp with the trifecta sauce (Cajun, garlic, lemon and pepper), with potatoes and sausage. We squeezed the lemons that they bring into the bag, mixed it up and it was the bomb. Me and my husband really enjoyed every bit of it, definitely going back. My only 'complain' is the excessive use of plastics and paper, but other than that it is a great place to have good food with a nice view in a centric location. Service was very good, Sierra and the other personnel that served our table were very nice and attentive. Place is huge, music was very cool because they have 80's and 90's playing while we're there. (Twice we had to get our tire replaced within one week.) I'm really glad that we went anyways. We ordered two appetizers and split a Catfish hoagy, or whatever it was called. The appetizers were calamari and hush puppies. All of it was excellent. The main complaint in the Yelp reviews were about the service. We had excellent service! About halfway through our meal, we asked the waitress why they had so many bad reviews, and she said that the restaurant had just opened a couple of months ago, and they made some mistakes.
