The food is decent, my favorite dish being the portobello fries that are juicy and crispy. However, the service isn't great. Not even good, truthfully. It takes forever for them to seat a party of two when there's plenty of free tables, and they're severely understaffed. It takes about forty minutes to be seated if they say twenty minutes, and another thirty for the first plate of appetizers. While the food is great, the service is horrible. The woman who helped out the waiter with our food was rude and gave me an exasperated sigh when I told her the plate she was giving me wasn't mine but my fiancés. read more

Average food at an average WV restaurant / bar. The only standout thing was the rattlesnake bites. Limited tap selections left me with the go to of all time: Yuengling!Wife had NYStrip and I had the "homemade" crab cakes with fried green beans. The steak was cooked as ordered along with garlic green beans and baked potato. My crab cakes were ok but it truly doubt they were homemade and were eerily similar to store bought frozen knock offs. My fried green beans were mass produced dipped in some cheap batter mix and fried in the deep fryer. Some things we talked about as we waited forever for our food was: very dated appearance that was dark and dreary, our waitress was very friendly and attentive offering no less than 4 apologies as we waited for our supper. As a kind gesture complimentary fried cheesecake for the delay. Thankfully it was free because I would hate to think I paid for it. Having lived in the area all our lives we would find it to be average. Here is some advice headed south eat in Winchester or north Hagerstown east Kings in Hedgesville west D'Atri's in Cumberland. Went there on wing night, Tuesday, got Sriracha honey flavor, which was recommended by our amazing waitress Courtney, and they were mouth watering. Made the local craft beer ever more pleasing. Decided to take a weekend trip from Pittsburgh to Berkeley Springs and with it being a small town restaurant choices were slim. We did a Yelp search and decided to try this one and were sure glad we did. Tucked away on top of a hill next to a motel was this unassuming quaint eatery. I can't speak for the beer because I don't drink but the food was AWESOME!! I had a half rack of ribs and sweet potato fries and my friend had a burger and homemade pig skins plus we had the potato skins appetizer. OUTSTANDING!! The ribs were fall apart tender and the BBQ sauce was superb. The potato skins were pure heaven as were the homemade pork rinds. Out waiter was sweet and attentive. The atmosphere was good except for the screaming children across the restaurant. I would most definitely recommend this place to anyone. The menu has a little something for everyone and at prices that won't break the bank! read more

They don't seem to care what they put on the plate. Our salads were filled with rusty lettuce and grisly meat. Steak wasn't edible. The only thing good when they have it is the soup and salad bar. There was old trash at the entrance beside the peeled painted door. The dining room where we were led was dirty. Picnic style tables were uncomfortable. Old spare carpet laying around the cluttered room. Vinyl tablecloth was ripped. The windowsill next to our table was littered with dead flys. A full bar is "available" but they don't know what to do with it. There is no bartender and they can't make mixed drinks. I ordered a crab cake. It was edible. But there are many other places in Berkeley Springs with *much* better. I also had the loaded baked potato. I think it was left over from the night before. The beer was cold. We came to dinner here because we thought we'd have a good experience. They got our apps out to us quickly but then we had to wait 45 MINUTES for our entrees. Yes we had 7 people in our party (3 adults and 4 kids) but we came when they were not busy! Everyone around us got their food before us. We went during the off-peak hours and weren't really sure what to expect as it wasn't fancy on the outside or inside (but we were greeted by 1 of 4 kitty friends by the door!), however we were so pleasantly surprised! We heard of Angus and Ale from a local bed and breakfast place and decided to try it out.. it was Friday night and I had a cup of cream of crab soup, prime rib, steamed shrimp with baked potato. Everything was cooked just right and they had the au jus plus horseradish which I love with prime rib.. My wife had the chili and salad. She loved the chili. She said it had a kick to it and that it was chunky and not watery. If you are in the area you have to try this place out! I ordered the prime rib tonight with a salad and a loaded baked potato. The cut of meat was really good and tender but I feel that they ruined a good piece of meat with WAY too much seasoning. Please back it down to about 1/2 of what you put on it. The loaded potato is an up charge of $2.50 for a piece of bacon and a small ketchup cup of sour cream. Hidden gem is a perfect description. If it weren't for Yelp, a GPS and a keen eye, we never would have found it. Signage is a must!!! OK, this place is a little dusty around the edges, but not gross. The crab soup tastes like a restaurant soup base with nothing added - Blech... No crab was sighted. However, what makes this place I'll run back to was the service, the steak (omg so good for the price!), and the super good corn bread, veggies and baked potato! But that steak! Wonderful rub, cooked to tender perfection, not a hint of gristle, fat, or toughness. And the price was outstanding. Seriously, make that crab soup from scratch, add some actual crab, and charge a couple bucks more. You won't regret it! read more

My group of four had lunch here. Everyone said their food was "okay" but nothing great. I agreed, except for the chili...that was very good. Two of us ordered sandwiches/burgers and the server said that they came with our choice of side. We opted for chili and clam chowder. When the bill came (which we'd previously asked to be split), it was all together. The server went back to the register (she seemed a bit miffed) and returned with separate bills. Once I reviewed the bill I noticed we'd been charged $3.50 each for the soup/clam chowder. I brought this to her attention; she was flustered, mumbled something about the register and the manager, and left with our incorrect bills. She returned later with new bills, stating we each got $3 taken off our bills and that $6 had been deducted. My bill only showed a $2.51 deduction. So, I questioned this, as well as the fact that the total due for reimbursement should have been $7.00 ($3.50 each). After so much back and forth, the time it took, and the aggravation it caused, we gave up, paid the bills and left. So...word of caution...apparently there are issues with actual costs and charges for menu items. read more

This was a HORRIBLE experience for me. I have never eaten in a place like this. Husband and I walked in and there was a strange musty smell. We arrived thinking we would have a beer and a burger. We were told by our waitress, who coughed on us first, that they were ALL OUT OF DRAFT BEER - What place called Angus & ALE has NO ALE! Then we ordered burgers, my husband ordered the land and sea burger and he was served the burger, but not with the old bay mayonnaise that was promised in the menu, but APPLE BUTTER, yes you read correctly apple butter. When we had had enough of my soggy cold fries, the waitress brought out the desert tray (so old fashioned) with the fake deserts - we did NOT get desert. We will NOT be going back. read more

We stopped at the gas station and asked if there was anywhere to go for dinner, and the employees suggested Angus & Ale. It's located in the parking lot of a hotel, and the parking lot lighting is poor, so you have to be looking for the place in order to find it. Nice atmosphere, service was good, food was good. We were there on a Friday night and they were busy with lots of locals. No complaints, but nothing that really struck us as outstanding either. This is my favorite place to go when in Berkeley Springs. The place is a little hard to find but when you do you will want to come back often. They have nightly specials Friday and Saturday being prime rib. They have the usual fare burgers and wings. The food is wonderful and the service is terrific. Our waitress Karen was fast friendly and attentive. Plenty of parking in the lot. Bill for 2 with soft drinks came to about 25.00. I definitely will be coming back next time I read more

Don't waste your time or your appetite. Overpriced, cold food sat too long under the heat lamp chicken Alfredo was dried up gunk, prime rib rare, so so with way too salty spinach dish an cold fries. Service was ok but s l o w. Waited 30 minutes or more for a table and the were many empty tables. Host, who was bussing tables said it's going to be awhile, we gotta get caught up. There's a DQ and a McDonald's nearby, they would be a better choice than this dump. One star is generous. read more

Glad we tried it! We were planning a day at Berkeley Springs and wanted to find a decent place for lunch. Based on reviews from another site we decided to try this place, though some trepidation may have been in play. I'm happy to report that things worked out very well. This story starts with the wife and I heading south from Berkeley Springs on 522 knowing that Angus and Ale was near the Best Western. Well....we blew right past it. I read reviews that said the place was tricky to find. I looked up the address on Google Earth. I read the Mapquest directions. I scrutinized the latest in high resolution satellite imagery in the visual, infrared, and ultraviolet spectrums.....yet still I managed to ride right past he place. And once I realized that I must have gone too far and I turned around to start he search in the opposite direction, I almost went past it again. I saw nothing on 522 that said "Angus and Ale, turn here" or anything to that effect. If they had a sign at the main road perhaps they would get more business. If you see a couple small signs for "Best Western" turn there, follow the road to the hotel, and "Angus and Ale" shares the same parking lot. Even the sign above the entrance is small. When we arrived, the restaurant parking lot was completely empty. At this point I wasn't optimistic yet we pressed forward. We walked in and saw a family at a booth. So, something of a good sign. Immediately a girl saw us at the entrance, introduced herself, and let us have the pick of the available tables. She showed us the menus, told us the daily specials, and took our drink orders. From that point on her service was exceptional. I wish I could remember her name because she did a fantastic job with the whole dining experience. My wife and I both got the soup and sald bar. While the lettuce was probably bagged the other items were fresh, including the shredded bacon. I also had two cups of Chili that was pretty decent. It may not have been completely from scratch, but it had good elements to it including what I believe was fresh ground beef. I would eat it again. Better half went with the Crab dip as an entree and I had the 1/2 rack of ribs with steamed shrimp. Crab dip size was comparable to the price and while lacking in any actuall chunks of crab meat it was ok. Ribs and Shrimp was about the same. It was easily a 1/2 lb of steamed shrimp. And the chef did it well. They had good old bay flavor and the shells peeled right off with no trouble. The ribs were tender and definitely "falling off the bone". While the sauce they were served with was very good it was apparent that they were not acually smoked. Though when I was done there was nothing on the place but a few bare bones. While not the best ribs I have had I'll say this.....they were better than quite a few places I have eaten at that claim to have great ribs.. They need some road side signage to help people find them. I'd eat there again...... :) read more

Loved the Clam Strips, Portobello Fries and Texas Chicken Soup. My husband's steak was cooked correctly and it was very juicy and not dry at all. My crab cakes were not the best that I have had from here. This was my third visit and third time getting the crab cakes and there was not one piece of lump crab meat like what was in them in the past. They were very dry and the minute you cut into one, it crumbled. I would go back again because the atmosphere is great and the service is great and all and all the food is very good but I would never get their crab cakes again. read more
