Found this place on a short trip and saw they had AYCE blue crab (hard shell) with fires and hush puppies. So my husband and I happily decided to try! Upon arrival we were cordially seated and staff was very nice and helpful! First we ordered an appetizer of the crab pretzel, which was DELICIOUS!!! I then ordered the blue crab and my husband ordered the ribeye/crab cake dinner. My crab was plentiful and refills were promptly delivered. Sadly my husbands steak wasn't really to his liking. He stated seasoning was a bit off and the crab cake was also a little dry. When he spoke to the server he was offered a new dish and discount which was quite nice! He opted for the discount (which we stated wasn't necessary but definitely appreciated!) I just kept eating my crab!! We also loved the background music (80-90's country with some classic mixed in) it wasn't overly loud and quite enjoyable! The place was clean and roomy we didn't feel crammed into a small space!! I overall recommend this place but it is not a "high-end" fine dining place but thinking of WHAT I was eating and how messy that is? I have no issue with that!! Got a reservation for 6:00. Ate the buffet with crab legs. Crab legs were amazing. The mussels were very good as well. I did not try the fish. The hush puppies were good. We found this gem on Facebook and it's become one of our favorite restaurants! We've gone to the seafood buffet and twice for the auce crabs. Both are excellent! Service was phenomenal. They checked on me often and kept the drinks coming. They checked on our satisfaction often. The manager came by twice and ensured we were happy. We got the crab dip as an appetizer and it was fantastic. It was so filling we barely had room for the meal we got. Ordered tge special that night which was prime rib, a baked potato, shrimp and a crab cake. The shrimp was a tad over cooked but not bad. The portions were massive especially the steak. They goofed up and gave me someone else's well done steak. The manager came over and advised it was a mistake and insisted they switch it to the correct cook which was med rare. It was so juicy and tender we only paid $35 and I got 3 meals out of it haha. Then they had a drink special which was a caramel spiked apple cider. Very yummy. Even better price. Very happy will come back. The ambiance was kind of casual and a little classy but not high brow. Deffinately somewhere I would go for a date. What a disappointment on AYCE wing and pizza. Nothing was fresh, few dried up old pieces of pizza on a cookie tray, not even anything to choose from. Wish I took a picture, you have to go to believe it. I asked if we can order a fresh pizza, I was told not it's what up on the buffet. Someone dropped the lid to the chicken on the dirty floor, it was picked up and placed back over the chicken. You have to scoop your sauce into your chicken pieces. There was a man who stuck his finger in one of the sauces, licked his finger the proceeded to get more sauce. The salad toppings were not fresh. One of our forks was super dirty. It really is what it looks like from outside. Ran down hotel, high priced for frozen food. The burgers were thick frozen patties. The fries were fresh cut and good. The waiter was great this is the only positive comment. The FB posts look and sound great, just don't want anyone to get as disappointed as I did as soon as I stepped foot into the door. And trust me. Two stars is generous. Located beside the Hotel 620 you can see what you hope is an amazing Sunday Buffet brunch but you would be extremely disappointed. I will say the service was excellent and she was very attentive, checking on us often and keeping our glasses full. We didn't have to ask for anything. Now for the buffet itself. When I think of the word brunch, I think of having a choice of breakfast, lunch, or a combination of the two but most everything on it was breakfast oriented. The scrambled eggs were hard and lacked any moisture. French toast, biscuits and gravy, and then an assortment of meat. No other lunch foods but for a salad bar. I guess they think of the salad bar as the lunch option. This is their second chance so not likely I'll go back. First time around the food was so over salted as to be inedible. Our first time here for Sunday brunch. I'm writing this realizing this place recently open so I'm trying to write a useful review for Zach. The idea is sound and I was looking forward to a nice Sunday brunch setting. Don't come here expecting a Dutch's Daughter quality brunch but for $21 it's not a bad value. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is what you expect from a restaurant attached to a hotel. (not necessarily a bad thing) That said, there are some execution faults and some quality issues that could be addressed to make this a much more pleasurable experience you want to return to: The salad bar had iceberg with brown edges. Toss it (no pun intended) and don't serve to customers. The coffee was weak as shown in the picture, this can be a standard issue or just the person making it. My wife says I didn't emphasize this enough in my review so adding for her. The ice water had no ice, I'm not European so room temp water doesn't appeal to me. The fried fish in the steamer trays was getting rubbery. I would do smaller batches and keep it fresh for guests. The sausage gravy lacked sausage and was runny. Sausage gravy should stick to your ribs not run into your other food. Get rid of the hotel waffles , it would be easy to have the kitchen make fresh with the omelette. I may sound harsh and over critical but these are my observations and are things with some fínese and a little quality control can be overcome easily. What was good: The Parmesan chicken was good and tender. The shrimp and grits were excellent. There is a nice selection on the buffet and salad bar. Although I would have someone checking the cleanliness of the buffet line and utensils more often. This isn't Golden Corrall. I'd love to try this place again in a few weeks after they get their momentum in play. I welcome a solid higher scale Sunday brunch to the area. read more

First let me say that if it was possible to give this place negative stars... I definitely would. We have been wanting to try out Fireside for quite a while now. We are on their Facebook page and see all the posts they make, and see all the "specials". I guess come to think of it, no one comments on their posts... this should have been an indicator. Well, today is Tuesday June 27, 2023 and the big special today is the Italian Night Buffet. $ 14.99 per person. So we made reservations and went. We entered and was very very slowly seated by a friendly older gentleman. While standing there for at least 10 minutes, I myself was having doubts after seeing the setup for the buffet, but my husband told me to give it a chance. We were seated in front of the big front window, which was nice. Our server Kristen was very friendly and took our drink order. She asked if we wanted the maid to order pasta dish from the kitchen. It was a seafood pasta that was to include shrimp, scallops, mussels, and crabmeat deglazed with white wine sauce. We absolutely wanted that! While we were waiting on that from the kitchen, we hit up the salad bar. The salad greens and toppings were all full and looked fresh. There was an assortment of dressings as well. So far so good. Except there were no crackers or bread for our salads. So hubby asked and they said they would bring out new garlic bread shortly. So we went back to our table to eat. Our garlic bread didn't come out till after we were done with our salads. At least we got some I guess. Then our pasta dish from the kitchen come out. I was excited and was so sad when I seen it. It was a small dish of linguine with 3 mussels, 4 shrimp, NO scallops, and a teaspoon of crabmeat on top. Mine was nearly dry, while my husband's was swimming in sauce. He had 6 shrimp in his. My 3 mussels turned out to be 1 single mussel. The other two shells were empty. So... the taste. It didn't really have much flavor except garlic with a old crabmeat taste. Old crabmeat is fishy. Believe me I have had enough crabmeat to know it was not fresh!!! This dish done me in. It turned my stomach and even know I tried I just couldn't eat it. So... after that epic disappointment we thought we would try the actual buffet items. One by one we opened the chafing dish lids looking for something yummy. Baked ziti looked dry, pass. Ravioli was up next, looked ok other than a little dry. Nothing major. Next eggplant parmigiana.. that actually looked good. Next was dry linguine with either Alfredo sauce or red marinara sauce. Next dish I opened was meatballs in marinara sauce, then shrimp scampi in the next. Lastly was a baked chicken Alfredo that was you guessed it linguine. *They had to gotten linguine on sale, cause that's the only pasta they had besides ziti noodles and ravioli* So after making our selections we headed off to the table. The red sauce is straight from a can with no seasonings. So that was used on most items. The eggplant was the only edible thing I had on my plate! The shrimp scampi would have been good except the shrimp was overcooked and very tough. I swear they were so rubbery you could've used them as bouncy balls. Seriously. I NEVER waste food. I HATE when food gets thrown away. This time I felt HORRIBLE because my plate was still full and I know it was all waste. So after that disappointment we thought at least something sweet would help save the day. Went to the bar to find dessert... looked around... and we found applesauce, canned vanilla pudding, and freshly thawed out fruit. REALLY?!! Italian night and no desserts... you know how many Italian desserts are available and they give you applesauce. Really. *Real good way to piss of a woman*. So, you know where I am headed with this review, right? We 100% DON'T recommend Fireside! The employees was friendly, it's definitely not the waitress fault management can't find either a better chef or better food items. I mean apparently they can cook linguine and work a can opener for the red marinara sauce. $39.18 plus tip for my now stomach issues. I honestly think the crabmeat was bad! read more

This was my second time to the Fireside for their seafood buffet and it definitely will be my last. The first time it was $50 and now it is $60. Which wouldn't be bad if it was worth it. But $60 for soggy shrimp and water logged crab legs was ridiculous. No flavor in the shrimp, the mussels were good but the variety for that price was lacking. The wait staff was very nice and accommodating but the set up is so very disorganized. Oh the hush puppies were good too. In addition for eating seafood,I don't know what the yellow stuff in litte cups was, but it wasn't butter. Also for seafood you need decent paper towels and the napkins they provided were like toilet paper. Next time I will go somewhere where I can have a great meal for half the money. I ordered cheesecake for dessert. It was tiny and there was no fruit syrup or any fruit on it at all. They charged $9.00 for this minuscule piece of cheesecake. I had a large piece of cheesecake (with whipped cream and fruit) that was flown in from Junior's in New York City, at The Main Cup in Middletown, MD recently. It was also $9.00, but worth the price. Outrageous that Fireside thinks it can charge $9.00 for a tiny speck of ordinary cheesecake! P. S. The BBQ bacon burger was delicious, as were the fries. Well needless to say it was late and the restaurant was closing and had everything shut down. Well Zack Timmons the chef and Barbara Harp were at the front and did accommodate us and took our order. Went on Thursday 6/23 for the AYCE crab and seafood. It was a zoo and seemed very unorganized. Greet Stand: Two people. One who knew what they were doing. One that didn't. They were both nice. Table: Sat us in the bar area. We had a small child with us. It was fine but they should have asked. For 5 people, they brought us 3 clips of silverware. Wait Staff: It took her almost 10 minutes to come to the table. She never told us her name. She seemed very frazzled. Ordered our non-alcoholic drinks. I asked for extra ice and sweet and low. I had to ask 4 times for those two items and 3 times for pepper. Eventually, another wait person realized ours was falling apart so she started helping everyone. If it wasn't for her, we might still be there. Food: Crab legs were fine. Especially since they were going through so many. Mac and cheese was good. The salad bar was very nice. Everything else was okay. The tables on the buffet were continuously empty. The salad bar needed refreshing - we waited 30 minutes for lettuce and then we asked them to restock it. There were so many people in line for crab legs you couldn't get to the salad bar. They need another system here. Price: $50 which is the going rate. $25 for children 6 and up, We had a 4-year-old with us and was free. Trust me, they didn't lose any money there - he ate 4 dinner rolls. Lunch today at Zach's Fireside was a true pleasure. Excellent food, service and ambiance! We had the mushroom swiss burgers cooked exactly as ordered. The fries were hand cut and perfectly cooked and seasoned. And the salad bar with soup, which was included with the meal, were very good with lots of variety! We'll definately be back! I ordered the ULTIMATE Philly Chesapeake sandwich. It was $21, so I expected it to be good. After a 45mun wait , I couldn't have been more wrong. It was horrible!!! The steak was burned to a cinder. The toast was so overcooked that it was brittle. The sandwich was dry and there didn't appear to have any detectable crabmeat. First time since it reopened, and it was like kids were running the restaurant. Nobody knew what they were doing. As soon as we sat down, I noticed ALL the glasses at our table were dirty. I told the waitress, and she picked them up and never said anything. The buffet was strange at best. People all over the food area waiting on crab legs, plates, and everyone asking when food and plates would arrive. It was the most disorganized restaurant I've ever seen. I asked the waitress what was wrong. She rolled her eyes and said the manager was learning on the go. The seafood buffet was mostly subpar snow crab legs and steamed (small) shrimp. There was no fish, broiled, boiled, fried or otherwise. There were fried clams but mostly inedible. There were no potatoes of any kind, and there were no vegetables - none. There was a sad salad bar with brown lettuce. No desserts either. No rolls or even bread. The crab soup was so salty and devoid of crab, it too was inedible. We really wanted to like the place, however, we were so underwhelmed, I doubt we'll go again. If we hear they make some improvements and actually learn how to run a restaurant, we might try it in - the (distant) future. For $50 per person, it was a real disappointment. read more

My experience at Zach Greenlee's Fireside on the evening of 12/14 was a horrible experience. It began with arriving at the restaurant promptly for my party's reserved dinner time of 6pm. When we arrived, we were told that our table was given to a group of 20 that said we were the party that reserved the 6pm time. This caused us to have to wait a few minutes while they setup a separate table for us which was not terrible, but it was just the tip of the iceberg. We were seated on the bar side and had to help move our own tables because the host was the only one attempting to move tables while others were no where to be seen. Our party was 9 people with two people ordering from the buffet and the other 7 ordering simple food from the kitchen. This included a chicken wrap, a cheeseburger, chicken wings, a salmon oscar, lasagna, a pasta dish, and a plate of shrimp. We placed our order and waited about an hour for our food to even begin to come to our table. We requested to speak to the manager onsite because it had been so long. We were never informed that there were two large parties also in the restaurant and that the kitchen was extremely overloaded with no help. The manager was no help and only stated that our food was minutes away (less than 5 at this point) and they would bring it out as it came up. The food that came to the table was cold or not appetizing. For example, the lasagna was ice cold and the other pasta dish had no flavor and was sitting for a while. The individuals that ordered that barely touched their food and considered it par for the course of the evening. We were rushed through the dining experience at this point since as soon as our plates were ready to be removed from the table, they took them. We realized that it was close to closing time and they were trying to rush to close. When we received our checks, we were all slapped with a 20% gratuity charge when we really received no real customer service at all from the entire evening. There were no concessions or efforts made on the part of the staff that evening and it seemed they were more interested in making the gratuity than the customer experience to maintain customers coming back to the establishment. This was my second and last visit to the restaurant. I really do not care whether someone contacts me from the restaurant as a followup since I consider the $100 I spent on a burger, fries, a chicken wrap, and two sodas to be enough emotional and financial damage to never eat at this or its sister restaurant again. read more

Their Sunday buffet is taking off, but they need a better execution. People get in line and they are standing over you while you eat. This place is amazing. We have been coming here since the end of Covid, and has continually improved each time. Crab cakes are very tasty. The Seafood buffet is very nice and affordable. Servers are all very friendly, older gentlemen know us by name and always seats us and my service dog in a safe table away from other patrons that may not pick up the crab shells and this could be fatal to my SA. This is one of the restaurants that don't fuss or discriminate because I have a SA. Establishment is always clean and atmosphere is calming and pleasant you can have a conversation without yelling and be able to carry on a conversation. This place is very underwhelming. Overpriced for below average food. Two of us ordered the buffet and two of us ordered of the menu. Both the menu meals were disappointing. The buffet has very flavorless, limited options that look as though they've been sitting out all day with the only appetizing looking thing being the crab legs unfortunately those were a miss too overcooked and very watery making them also flavorless. There is also supposed to be a senior discount for the buffet which they failed to give us. Believe the bad reviews and skip this place. Your money is better spent anywhere else. My group of four ate here because it was convenient as we were staying in the attached hotel. The restaurant was the best part of our stay. The staff were all very nice and the food was fantastic! I know it looks blah from the outside, at least in winter, but the food and fireplace make it worth it. My fiancé and I had the salmon Oscar, my sister had the cod and my niece had the spaghetti. The portions are huge and the flavors divine. The salmon, asparagus and crab were cooked perfectly. The sauce was absolutely luscious but not too rich. It complemented the salmon and crab very well. My niece and sister both said the spaghetti was delicious. My niece is a very picky eater. My sister's cod was thick and moist without being raw. Even the lemonade was perfect. They also offered to make Brussels sprouts without the bacon since I don't eat pork. Everything was wonderful and we would all eat there again. I was excited to go to the Tuesday Mexican Buffet that was promoted for their Anniversary. I made the reservation for 5pm. I arrived a few minutes before 5 and the Mexican buffet wasn't ready. No problem, I got a salad from that buffet and waited. At 5 the Mexican food was placed on the buffet. All in all it wasn't bad, although a few advertised items weren't put out yet and the tortillas weren't heated-A HUGE PET PEEVE-it was ok. I ate my 2 tacos and Black Beans and Cilantro Rice and waited for the rest of the buffet to be put out. I got back in line and there is where the big problem started. THE WHOLE BUFFET WAS EMPTY, except for some Black Beans!! The line kept getting longer and we kept waiting. After 45 minutes I just got the beans and went back to the table. If you have an AYCE Buffet, you should prepare back up pans of food in advance. It was not worth the time or the money. And I'm not even going to start on what they called Salsa and Chips that were strange and extremely greasy and already placed on every table when we first arrived. So..... I went today for lunch and what drew me in was the salad bar. I was a little concerned at the brown edges on lettuce but managed to find some that looked okay. All other items on the bar looked fresh and I had a great salad! My meal was the open faced roast beef and fries. Never have I been served ground hamburger with gravy and had it called roast beef. My family and I went for the BOGO 1/2 off pasta night a few weeks ago. The place was packed with people which was good to see as this used to be one of our favorite restaurants prior to the pandemic. We ordered lasagne, blackened chicken and shrimp Alfredo along with spaghetti and meatballs. The pasta was advertised as house made and at $21 a plate I had high hopes that this was going to be some of the best spaghetti and meatballs I had ever eaten. Sad to say I was deeply disappointed when the food arrived. The spaghetti and meatballs were extremely dry and rather bland with a somewhat chunky sauce. My take on this is that it was the first dish in the order that was made and sat under a warming light while the lasagne and Alfredo dishes were being prepared. We decided to give it one more try (again this used to be our favorite restaurant pre pandemic) and went for lunch- AYCE soup and salad bar for $14.99. Unfortunately the selection was mediocre at best and way overpriced as the original Fireside restaurant used to offer an AYCE soup, salad and hot bar for $11. Sad to say, what used to be a favorite spot to eat is no longer, as the food is bland, overcooked and way overpriced. My hope is that Zach reads reviews, takes notes and makes appropriate changes so the FIreside restaurant will be known again as one of the best places to eat in town. read more

My Husband, step son, and I went to their AYCE seafood buffet last night and from the minute we walked in the door it was bad! We made reservations at 6:45 and didn't get seated until well after 7, then we were put on the bar side all the way in the back corner where even getting acknowledged was a chore! I asked for lemons because I can't eat crab legs with butter because it makes me sick in the stomach and after asking 5 times he brings me a few slices and never brought me more after requesting them over a Dozen times so needless to say I only had a couple clusters Which they constantly ran out of and there really wasn't much else seafood wise that was ever stocked so you had to keep going back up to check. It was the same for the soup and salad bar. On top of that our shell bucket was over flowing countless time and our table was a mess and we had to go find him to ask him to empty the bucket Every time. We asked for refills which we never received! This is not our 1st time here either and I must say every time we have went it has been sub par But since it is the only place around that you can get AYCE crab legs you don't really have an option. When you are going out to enjoy family time and paying a decent price to eat you expect good service and that is something we really have never received. I wouldn't recommend going here especially if you have a big party because you will be very dissatisfied! read more

We started coming here for the lunch specials. Great price, good food includes soup and salad bar. (Cheaper than the s&s bar alone) We then came back for the A.Y.C.E. crab legs and sea food buffet. Well stocked, hot and very good. Next was the Sunday brunch(A.Y.C.E,) WOW.... The usual stuff plus parmesan encrusted chicken breast, cod stuffed flounder custom made omelets upon request. s&s bar, coffee, tea and juice.... We went back for the crab legs, and I ordered off the menu. The prices made me blink a few times but wound up ordering the Drunken mushroom filet hoping I would not regret my choice. My meal arrived it looked great, I cut into my filet, and it was prepared perfectly. So far so good. I took a bite and then I remembered what it was like to eat in a restaurant with a chef who cared about what they served. The meal was great, I can't even describe the sauce it was that good. I am 64 years old and remember when Hagerstown had real restaurants to eat at. When I think about what I paid then and this meal it's not bad. No regrets for my order and will be back to try other meals. Let us not forget the staff. they are friendly, attentive and accommodating. They know the menu and can tell you about your order. They check to see if you need or want anything. they greet you when you arrive and thank you and address you when you leave. I did have an experience on one visit when my burger was over cooked, it was taken care of. I'm tired of mediocre and half as#ed food and service. We be back.
