Worst customer service! The employees stand behind the register and when someone walks in the store, nobody greets you. They just continue their conversation. Nobody's walks around asking if you have questions. I walked up to the counter and the employees were too busy talking to acknowledge me. They had my dog for a week their employee offered to do some training. I picked up my dog 4/28/2024 and my dog was emaciated, dehydrated. The business had him in the back and in a dog crate . He beat his head on the crate , and now his whole face is nothing but scabs. Pictures below. Take my word for it, he looked like a stray that had been wandering the streets. I cried all the way home. We would leave this "shelter" a ZERO if this site would allow it. We got our little guy for FAR too expensive and had to PAY MORE IN VET BILLS THAN THE PET ITSELF! The poor fella had WORMS from all of their filth. And that's just the pet itself. The employees are terribly disrespectful to everyone who walks in. I ask questions about particular animals, and the employee screams that "my amount of questions on their care were inappropriate" - loud enough for everyone in the place to notice. On top of that, these people poorly treat these animals - having them fight for their food & water; they do not neuter nor will they help, unlike COUNTLESS shelters around; and the employees are incompetent, disrespectful excuses for "help". Really not even a one star place.. I found the staff to be rude as they acted like they knew everything and were upset when asked to open the cages so you can see one of the puppies... not to mention the incredibly high pricing of these puppies and honestly even the birds and fish are over priced. I find this place to be very insulting to the animal world considering I have seen the puppies they sell end up in a shelter a month later because they only refund you $50 dollars if that. I have been shopping at Animal City for years now and they have the best prices in town and they have the cutest and healthy animals. To be honest the owners are so incredible and so are the staff. You can tell they care and love the animals and are very passionate about what they do. I always feel extremely confident when I purchase any animals from them. We just purchased a Conure from these fine folks. We had to wait 4 weeks as he was too young to take when we initially purchased. During the time we waited, we visited multiple times. Everytime we visited the staff was very engaged and helpful no matter how busy they were at the time. When we were able to bring our bird home, they made sure we had the knowledge needed to be successful with our new bird. I found the facility to be clean and well kept as did all the animals. My roomate got a kitten from this place, 11 days after the adoption the kitten died. DO NOT ADOPT FROM THIS PLACE. She was lied to about the age of the kitten, and the condition of the kitten, the poor cat was sold to us with worms and because the kitten was so young, it was being given the wrong diet from this place, it was given hard and wet food at 4 WEEKS OLD?!! and this caused her to have major digestive issues leading up to the death of this kitten. I'm saddened to share that my kitten that i had only had for 1 week has died because of this place. Keep in mind that this is my first kitten ever. I came in on a thursday to get my sweet Luna and was told that she was born 11 weeks ago. She was weighing at 1.1 pounds which at the time i didn't know was worrisome. During the adoption process I was rushed because they were closing in a hour. I ended up taking her home that same day, once we got home I immediately noticed that she had intense diarrhea. I waited a few days hoping it would get better before taking her in to animal city. She didn't get better.When taking her in, the 3 girls working in the basement told me to not worry about it because that's normal for kittens. Obviously this isn't normal. I took it upon myself to take her to the vet. The vet told me that there is no way she is 11 weeks old, she must only be 5-6, meaning she was taken from her mother way to soon!!!! The vet also stated that many animals from animal city have died on their watch. I went to animal city to have them refund me for my kitten and pay for vet bills. this is where i was BULLIED by Amanda the manager. She insisted that i give her medical documents showing an illness. She was almost begging me to take back Luna. There was no way I would ever give her back to this hell hole. She tried gaslighting me into thinking I was the reason she was sick. Amanda has no remorse for peoples feelings or emotions. All she cares about is money!!! My sweet luna crossed the rainbow bridge on sunday in her sleep. When i called to tell them she passed all they said was "oh okay, thanks for telling us" Please NEVER purchase from this god awful place. I hope no one has to go through what I did. Actual selection of fish is pretty poor (meaning that's Petsmart has both larger fish and more of a selection). The freshwater fish that they do have are incredibly small, making it hard for someone with an established aquarium and some full grown fish to find anything to add. They did have a blue Acara that sold right before I could ask someone about it, and I was told that they get 1 about once a month. Probably won't be returning as it's not really conducive or beneficial to either maintaining or growing an aquarium. read more

Such a nice store and staff! Everyone is happier holding or playing with a puppy! Nice variety of food for dogs, cats, fish, birds, mice and bunnies. There is an upstairs and downstairs so don't forget to go downstairs where the kittens and cats are. They also keep the bunnies and mice downstairs. Overall a very nice experience visiting this place and after a long day at work it was nice to relax with little fur babies. read more

Definitely a great place to be ripped off. These people ripped my 16 yr. old daughter off by falsely advertising a dog was a pure bred Australian Shepherd. The dog did not have any papers and they charged her $1,000. They explained you could get genetics test done to prove that she was pure bred. Fast forward a year later when we were thinking about breeding the dog, we got a genetics test done. Turns out the dog is only 12% Australian Shepherd. So congratulations Animal City on taking advantage and lying to a child. What a great business model you guys have going over there. Hopefully it will eventually catch up with you and they will shut your puppy mill down. read more

This place has dogs in fish tanks and a tortoise with one small heat light next to a freezing cold door. None of their animals are in properly sized cages. None of the animals that need heating have proper heating. They have a baby hedgehog by the open door when they need heat with NO heating anywhere in sight. It's 50 degrees outside today and raining. Please do not support this business they can't properly take care their animals. read more

Fantastic store. The puppies are well taken care of, and some are from the shelter. They insist you use germ x, but sometimes are too overwhelmed with customers that they can't catch everyone. I've only seen a sick dog there once, and a worker was with it the entire time and refused to let anyone touch it. They definitely care about their animals. They have a wide selection of fish, too. No one is wearing masks including the workers. The care for the animals is horrific. There is a 20 year old tortoise with only a bearded dragon heat lamp beside a cold glass door. A hedgehog with no heating pad or lamp next to the cold door. Dogs in very very small enclosures and much more. The ball pythons do not have adequate heating or humidity. I have been coming here for over a decade. Literally all of my pets have been purchased from here and I have several. Recently a large reptile I purchased several months back has been having trouble eating and is, IMO, discontented with his living situation and the cold weather. I called and asked what i could do and was told a few options and that that was all they could recommend. I stopped by to purchase some things as per their suggestion and actually spoke with the woman that took my call. Zero compassion on her voice and I was upset. She literally walked past me while I was speaking. I told a manager (most likely the owner) about her behavior at check out with tears in my eyes and she condescended me. She asked what I fed and I told her of the varied diet I gave him. She said "well I hope you can get your lizard to feeling better" out of the blue. I left the store bewildered. They change staff every couple weeks and after this I'm not surprised they can't keep staff. read more

This is the absolute worst pet store I have ever been into. To start the puppies are kept in glass tanks (like fish) with only shredded news paper not one toy or anything. As a proud bird owner I can tell you the birds were in awful shape. Their cages were coated in poo and one was very clearly sick. They had a very exotic animal in there..I did not stay long enough to catch what it was called but it was kept in a large cage and only had a bed..it was constantly being stared at and had nowhere to hide. I will never go back and for sure would not give them a dime of my money. read more

Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. Not only do they have a huuuuge variety of animals, they legitimately care about them. Evelyn should get an honorary degree in veterinarian. Lots of people come here with their sick pets that they didnt even buy from there and she will help however they can. Amanda hand feeds and raises the birds. The staff is always close by if you have a question and are very knowledgeable. Though the prices are a little higher, its understandable. It is a small family business plus they have to feed all the pets!! All of the products are high quality. Especially their selection of food, and if they dont have what you need, they will special order it for you. Customers there are extremely loyal. Loooove this place. read more

Hey I love all animals I don't know in depth about all animals except for rabbits hamsters rats guinea pigs dogs and cats I'm not one to say whether or not the fish or reptile care is good or even ok... the puppies are definitely no question at all from puppy mills they are and there's no way you can just buy a perfectly healthy well cared for puppy just by walking into a store and handing them money. the rabbits are in tiny cages they need enough room to run around and jump a full grown rabbit can't even turn around in the cages there being kept in. the mice and hamsters are also in the smallest possible cages they can "fit" in. the birds are also in too small of cages (but I don't know much about them). the rabbits that are being sold are probably not old enough to be separated from there mother and are definitely not spayed or neutered and I am 100% sure they don't tell you too take them to a vet at all they are also not being given any hay (hay is exposed to be 75-90% of there diet)or veggies at all the cage isn't big enough to but a litter box a bowl or anything they actually need. if you want to actually learn about rabbits go to house rabbit society dont please please don't listen to a pet store employee they don't have clue about animals!!!!! read more

The only word to describe this pet store is sketchy. They look at you like you are wasting their "oh-so-precious" time when you are just asking a question. Don't even get me started on the conditions of the animals! It looks like someone delivered a bunch of animals and the staff just crammed all of them in certain parts of the store. the birds especially! they had baby cockatiels all in this one pen where any unsupervised 6-year-old could grab it out. I,ll summerize the rest because, honestly, I could write a book about how awful THE BIRD SECTION ALONE is. There was a 5 ft long snake that was just curled up in a container of water with nowhere else to go, and a turantula that was in a tiny critter carrier!! Downstairs was where my heart broke, where I saw over 20 adult dogs outside where it was 40 degrees and cloudy. Not to mention 3 huge adult rabbits in one tiny pen. In short... please don't come here if you are all about animals and want to buy one; just go rescue or something, it's better than supporting animal abuse. Or unless you want to get your heart ripped out and burst into tears then go ahead. (Just please don't spend your money here.) read more

I want to give a 5 star rating to Animal City in Murfreesboro. We purchased our daughters cockatiel from them, he was bred by them and hand raised. He's the calmest, tamest bird I've ever had. One of their bird experts, Amanda, spent a good amount of her time with us when we bought him, showing us how to handle him, tricks for training him, and she explained very throughly how to care for him. Yesterday he was bleeding so I called the store and spoke to Amanda again, and she told me to bring him in and she would take a look. She ended up keeping him over night, treated the little cut he had (he missed his perch and hit the bottom of the cage, I think that's how he ended up with it), and she even called with an update before bed last night. Thankfully he's just fine, and Amanda was so kind and caring when dealing with the bird- and us! I am so pleased with the experience, and I would recommend them to anyone! read more

Update: The puppy was taken to the hospital twice for health issues. It was not needless visits nor did the hospital believe so with him vomiting multiple times and gasping for air when held on his back. He also made the noise when picked up at times, and hadn't pooped. Does that sound like symptoms to ignore?? The puppy didn't get enough rest that night or us, but he probably still got more sleep than the puppies in your store (being constantly disturbed so people can hold the or look at them). The puppy food the breeder fed him and his mother you said was "crap" and full of dyes. So don't try to minimize that now. You put him in with his litter mates without quarantining possibly a sick dog as soon as we brought him in without being further examined, which shows negligence. You also don't know if your puppies go to good homes. No questions are asked other than method of payment and supplies needed. Shameful. No questions about work schedules, do you have a fence. A good breeder asks these questions and wants people to communicate with them directly. They don't drop off a litter of puppies at a pet store. Animal City chooses not to share this information on the breeder for a reason. We did call asking about him because we were concerned and did/do care about his welfare. We even thought about taking him back to follow up with additional vet care, but decided against it after doing research. I advise the public to do the research, look up what ASPCA and other reputable sites say about pet stores. After doing the research I would never advise anyone to buy a puppy from a pet store. read more

I have 4 dogs, 6 cats, a snake and an fish aquarium at home and just walking into this store I could tell the employees had way too much on their plates, I.E, way too many pets and not enough help for them. (Plus...the two employees on duty seemed arrogant) I went in to look for another fish to add to my aquarium, but the conditions of this place made me think twice. For starters, the birds sounded very stressed out, but I would be too if my cage was disgusting. Second, the dogs were very cute but some looked miserable, and some of them had so much poop in their enclosures they had nowhere else to step! Even the snakes and other reptiles were not even in the right cages; one of the ball pythons had stuck shed and I wasn't surprised given the heat lamp they didn't need and another ball python was in a freaking iguana enclosure???! The fish tanks irked me the most, however. I noticed some of the fish had ick and immediately walked out. I advise any animal lovers to avoid this location. read more

My heart leapt for joy finding a true Mom N Pop pet store with a fish room. Making my way back, pulse pounding, disappointment set in. The overwhelming odor of dead fish hit me in the face half way through the store. As a retired person who has been in the aquaculture business on both sides breeding, and retail, for a combined total of 30 years as a fish keeper, there is a minimum standard that a Mom N Pop should strive to attain. Healthier fish than Wal-mart / Pet Smart. That's why you go to a specialist. Because they are going to offer what the big guys don't, quality. While I can't speak to the rest of the store, as I frankly didn't care, this review is about the fish room only. They did have lots of healthy oscars and gouramis. Just about everything else was thin or sickly. I weep for those shubunkins. The one kid working the fish room looked like he was in his young teens. Watching him catch and bag a customers order was awkward, as he was so unskilled it was like asking someone from the toy department at Wal-mart to bag up some fish as he blundered through it. I so wanted this to be THE place closer to home than Nashville, but it wasn't. Even broken and disabled I could do a better job at running that fish room. Let me know if you improve. I'm waiting to catch Aquarium fever again. This place sure didn't do that for me on 3-28-2016. read more
