The doctor is very knowledgeable and kind. The office is clean and cute. I didn't have to wait very long.

I don't normally take the time to write a review, but due to the huge variance in costs between this clinic and my own, I thought it was worth it to share my experience. We have three big dogs, and two cats. Our Maine Coon cat had an ulcer on her left eye, which was resolved by our local vet, but it continued to be inflamed, so we were referred to the Animal Eye Specialists. The first visit costs $437, which included a $220 "examination" fee, plus other fees for some meds. They asked us to come back in two weeks for a recheck, where we were charged another $206, including $150 for the "examination", which was less than 10 minutes. In contrast, my local vet only charges $68 for an "examination", spends a lot more time with the pet, and doesn't charge a re-examination fee for a follow-up. Here on this blog, I read about others who had been nickle and dimed by Animal Eye Specialists, so when I got the surgery estimate from them for a minor surgery (Entropion, which is the rolling up of the eyelid causing irritation), which was $2,100, and I read all the things I would be charged for, I decided to do a little more research. Turns out my local vet is very capable to perform this surgery and has done so many times before successfully. Her estimate, including a spay, is $728, a third of the cost of Animal Eye Specialists. More specifically, Animal Eye Specialist charge $675 for the surgery, $225 for anesthesia monitoring whereas my local vet only charges $200 and $70 respectively. And my local vet clinic has a very nice, new facility, with three highly qualified doctors working there. I don't have any complaints about Animal Eye Specialists facility or staff. Frankly, it is a beautiful office, resembling a nice home with a big living room with fireplace for the waiting area, and the staff was very friendly, with short wait times. And from what little time I had with the Doctor, she seemed knowledgeable and capable, and I have no doubt she has handled some very challenging ophthalmologist cases successfully. And granted, customers should expect to pay more for a specialist, who has gone through additional training and a residency for their specialized practice. But to charge three times more.... actually more than 3 time more, because my vet estimate includes the $110 spay, so my Maine Coon only has to wear the "cone of shame" and recover from surgery once. My dad and uncle were both Veterinarians, and my daughter is currently one. She had done this Entropion surgery many time successfully, and she is a general veterinarian. She has run into this challenge many times with patients: Either refer the patient to a specialist that costs three times more, or "trust" her to perform the surgery. Often times the customer doesn't have the money to pay a specialist, so they were have her perform the surgery. My advice is to do your own research, determine the level of difficulty and whether your local vet has the training and expertise, then decide if you are willing to pay the "premium" for a specialist. Finally, back to our dogs. Our 100 pound lab blew out his ACL (it has a different name in dogs, but to keep it simple, it is the ligaments in the knee of the hind leg). We were referred to a orthopedic specialist up on Texarkana (Dr. Old). It was an extensive surgery, that required a large titanium plate, and 9 screws. He charged a flat rate of $3500. It entailed an intense 8 week recovery (kenneled for 8 weeks, had to be taking out on a leash to go potty), and no playing, running, or jumping, including isolation from the other two dogs. He recovered fully, but Dr. Old did say that 10% of the time, the body would "reject" the metal in his leg, and that it might have to be removed. Lucky us, we were part of the 10% after 6 months. Apparently in some cases, it can occur 5 years later. Regardless, we had to go through a similar recovery for him, but he is now back to 100%, running and playing with the other dogs. In this case, it was worth it to pay a specialist, but one in a more remote area that doesn't charge exorbitant fees. The cost to remove the hardware was only $650. Hopefully this post helps some when faced with a challenge with our furry friends! read more

We are very thankful for Dr. Beaumont healing our dog's eye! Our dog had persistent eye irritation for several months- redness, discharge, cloudiness, and squinting. After 2 visits with our regular vet and 2 types of medications, no progress had been made and we decided it was time to visit an Opthalmologist. Dr. Beaumont and her team were very detailed upon examining his eye and suggested a reasonable treatment plan to get him back on track. Luckily, no surgery was required or recommended and our pup is back to being healthy and happy! Their office is new, nice, and comfortable. Be warned... First red flag was when I called on a Monday and the said they had an opening on Wednesday that must have been a cancellation. The rest of the appointments were two weeks out. They didn't specify the date and I stupidly assumed Wednesday of that week because she didn't give us a date, and because she said it was a cancellation and acted so surprised it was available. So we show up, and they turn us away and say "Oh, no its next Wednesday". What they should have done, if they were professionals, is get my phone/email and send an appointment confirmation the same day the appointment is made. This is standard practice at most all doctor's offices, and is done in order to avoid situations like this. So appointment time comes. Full disclosure, our vet flagged him as a "biter" but included that he's never bitten anyone at our vet clinic. He's also never bitten anyone in our family or friends circle; but he can act aggressive, and gnash his teeth and growl, and needs a muzzle for more invasive work, or if you mess with his paws. We had our $180 ready that they tell you is due the day of the appointment. This is so they can perform the initial examination. We don't make much as a single/low income family, but we scrounged the $180 together for our boy as best we could. Took our dog in, and the nurse works with us to get a muzzle on. She tries to give him some eye drops, again with our help (I don't mind helping but I am paying this place $180, and they are a SPECIALIST, and need my help for the examination?) The nurse is unable to give him the eye drops, so she leaves to get the doctor so she can help. The doctor comes in, and without even so much as asking a question about the dogs health, or eyes, and without even attempting to work with her staff to examine the dog, says we need to pay $130, on top of the $180, to sedate him so they can complete the initial examination. The nickel and diming begins, I thought. Places like this are notorious for charging additional fees wherever they can - so this was not a good look for them, although I am sure their intentions were fine. That said, they should be able to handle dogs like ours without the need for sedation. Especially just for the EXAMINATION phase of treatment. He has 2 teeth (genetics caused all of his others to have to be pulled), and he's all bark, no bite. With a muzzle they should have been able to do what they needed, but they didn't even try. Please note that our dog has been seen by multiple vets and nurses at our veterinarian clinic, and never ONCE, during ANY examination -- and we're talking multiple bloodwork, shots, nail clippings, ear cleaning -- did they require us to sedate. Muzzle at most. Why now? For eye drops? And you didn't even try to work with him? Where's the professional dog handling skill at this place? So, be warned, they might identify your dog as "high energy" and force you to pay more for sedation so they can diagnose. We declined, because we can't afford to pay $310 that day. Maybe allow us to pay in installments or invoice us? For the dog's sake? I have amazing credit. Nope, not an option. Last red flag was on our way out. We get to the check out counter and they require $45 just for showing up. We didn't even get to talk to the doctor about our dog, nor did the doctor spend any time with our dog. They did no consultation, no examination, we were seen for maybe 20 minutes total. We paid $45 to help the nurse put a muzzle on our dog and help her try to give him eye drops. I get that they are business, and need to make money for their time. I do. But $45 for 15-20 minutes? And never seeing a doctor? And with US assisting the nurse? With exam not even starting? The kind, common sense, compassionate, and smart business thing to do, would have been to build a rapport with us, let us go without any charges so we could then save additional money needed, and then urge us to return for sedation+examination. We gladly would have done this, but with the way this was handled, and now that they took $45 from me, it tells me everything I need to know about this place and what the future treatment could look like. And to make matters worse, we are now short $45, so we have to get that money somehow so we can go to another specialist. This has caused yet another delay in getting our poor boy looked at and who knows what further irreparable damage it has caused. read more

Awhile back, I called this office to see if they could get us in sooner than our regular ophthalmologist (they couldn't) and they told me that I could only get an appointment if I paid around $300 and subjected my dog to a standard blanket of tests, because according to them, every animal they see undergoes these tests and all ophthalmologists require them (not true, just call around and ask). Our dog had an ulcer in her eye, and I didn't think shoving strips of paper under her eyelids to check tear production was a good idea, nor was checking her eye pressure a priority at the time. I gave them a poor review based on this interaction. Yesterday, our vet called in sick and we saw a new vet for a different eye issue (one that those tests would have actually been beneficial in evaluating) and he referred us to this office. Their phone number wouldn't go through, so I emailed them asking for an appointment. I got a response, which I screenshotted and attached, basically stating that they refused to see us because I gave them a bad review. Apparently, you can't go to this office unless you blindly consent to forcing your dog to undergo scary, uncomfortable tests (even when unnecessary and/or potentially harmful) and then have the audacity to leave a less than stellar review. It seems to me that if they get butthurt over a review, they'll refuse to see you and leave your dog to suffer as punishment for not bending to their will and for warning other potential pet owners about their office. Not exactly someone I want taking care of my pets, so I'll consider that as a bullet dodged. Make sure you do some research before committing to this office, which seems to be more concerned with their ego than with a dog that needs their help. Free advice from someone who's worked in the medical field for over 15 years: Be very, very weary of a medical provider who doesn't tolerate you asking questions and interprets it as "questioning the way they practice medicine." *For those wondering, we are already scheduled with our regular ophthalmologist that we've used for years for our other two dogs.* read more

We were referred to Animal Eye Specialists and Dr. Beaumont by our primary care veterinarian. Our pup had slowly been losing some vision and her eyes had that blue cast to it. We went to Animal Eye Specialists about two years ago and we started checking more often her vision with Dr. Beaumont. It became time to have the cataract surgery done on our pup. After seeing Dr. Beaumont for a few visits, we felt comfortable and confident in her abilities to restore our girl's vision. She is an extremely healthy 13 and she passed the medical tests, we were very hopeful for a good outcome so she could enjoy her life with us. Needless to say, I was, was a bit nervous but our pup came through the surgery just fine. At the two weeks mark we went in for a checkup and she had developed an issue and Dr. Beaumont was quick to resolve that issue and even came in the day after Thanksgiving to make sure that our baby was doing great for the long holiday weekend. Above and beyond, and so appreciated. We just had our two-month post-surgery checkup and I swear Dr. Beaumont used the word perfect 20 times to describe our baby's eyes. She even said she looked younger! We are so grateful to each and every person at Animal Eye Specialists, especially Dr. Beaumont. Her manner bedside manner with the pups is fantastic but even better with the overprotective parents. The staff made everything extremely easy to get through that first week with all the medications and drops - it made it a lot less overwhelming! Words cannot begin to describe how grateful I am. After a horrible experience with our vet at Banfield, we found ourselves having to look for a specialist. I was given a list of 5 Ophthalmology clinics and was calling around to see the soonest I could get Chance in. After calling all 5 to get a feel for the clinics, we chose Animal Eye Specialist! Whoever I talked to that day was the sweetest and was the main reason why I picked Animal Eye Specialist over the other 4 places. Dr. Beaumont was a godsend. She is compassionate and comforting. When I first learned of Chance's diagnosis it was difficult for me and she gave me all of my options and her priority was to get Chance better. She was calm and understanding and I knew Chance was going to be in good hands. After Chance's surgery he started getting some pep back in his step and his incision looked amazing! It has been 2 weeks post surgery and Chance looks great and we got our stitches out today! If your baby is needing surgery Dr. BEAUMONT IS THE BEST. My pup and I came back for a visit after Dr Beaumont recommended we try a steroid treatment instead of a biopsy or surgery right away. The mass on her eye shrunk drastically and changed color after more than a week of treatment. The mass was in a strange spot and not something common seeing as how our regular vet had never seen something similar either. A week ago My 12 week old lab puppy got bit in the eye. The staff at the ER were very concerned about the eye. The front desk staff were amazing and able to get me an appointment that very morning. They worked hard to calm a 12 week old puppy without further traumatizing him. Subsequently, Dr. Beaumont was able to do a good eye exam and prescribe meds. She had excellent communication skills and took the time to chat with us. A week later the eye looks fantastic and my pup has a bright future. If only I could give more than 5 stars! I am in the people healthcare profession and have never encountered an office like this whether it be people or animals. I was initially recommended to another eye specialist nearer where I live but could not get in for 2 wks. They got us in in two days which if I had waited, come to find out that our kitty may have lost her vision permanently if had not been treated sooner! Dr. Beaumont is the consummate professional with a calm demeanor. She thoughtfully relays information and showed me some tips in medicating that was a break through whereas I had never been able to before. She treated us holistically and addressed other issues to consider in the care of our aging kitty. Dr. Beaumont advised a $2,200 corneal flap surgery for my 12-year-old dog. I emphasized that my main objective was to help my dog become comfortable and ease her pain. That was not well received, as the doctor replied, "That's what I would do for my dog." When she had the lights off in the room during her exam, she tried to talk to me several times even though I told her that I am not comfortable having a conversation in the dark. The doctor described several medicines, and I told her that I was not familiar with these words. She continued to call them by their generic drug names even though I told her that calling them by name did not help. She got up and left the exam room as I was talking. We brought "Milton Nacho" to Dr. Beaumont and her team at Animal Eye Specialists in despair because he was having problems with his right eye. It turns out he had a serious ulcer in his cornea which had become infected. We were afraid he would lose his sight. Dr. Beaumont and her team immediately displayed a high degree of professionalism and deep knowledge and quickly went into action. After several weeks of active and involved treatment, I am happy to report that Milton Nacho is back to his old self. His eye has healed, it is in working condition and his tail is wagging once again. It is not an exaggeration to say that Dr. Beaumont and her team saved Milton Nacho's sight. My 16-year old Papillon developed mineralization on the corneas of both eyes. The left eye was the worst and a piece broke off, scratched and punctured the cornea creating an ulcer. Our vet only saw the scratched cornea and prescribed medications for that but told us if our pup did not respond to treatment in a few days we should see an animal ophthalmologist. We are so thankful for Dr. Stephanie Beaumont and her team. They were able to get us in right away and surgery was scheduled within the week. We were terrified of sedation for 16-year old pup. Dr Beaumont explained how it would be administered and we had complete confidence in her. The surgery was performed. Our pup was up and around within a few hours and today he had his 2-week follow-up. He has completely healed!! He is his usual happy, frisky self and we are thrilled. This practice is first class. We were referred for a terribly sad reason but I knew our dog was in good hands. Dr. Beaumont is a certified veterinary opthamologist and surgeon. She was compassionate and candid with us. Our rescue pup had an eye infection that severely damaged his eye. The only path forward was surgery. She had a specific recommendation, which is rare. Too many vets have an "it's up to you" approach. She steered us away from trying to save his eye with a complicated surgery that would result in little or no vision and recommended we remove it. I was in shock. She explained both procedures thoroughly and calmly - which was a good thing because I was far from calm - and we followed her recommendation. I know this may not seem fair, but I called around to 3 different Vet's specializing in eye care, explained my story to them, asked for exam fee and what all it included, and Animal Eye Specialists are the only ones who refused to give me just a range for removal of the eye. The other 2 places gave me a range, which is all I was asking for. Their initial visit also doesn't include as much as the other 2 clinics (Animal Ophthalmology Clinic and Veterinary Eye Institute). I would not recommend this place. The staff was not friendly. Dr. Beaumont was not friendly either. She performed a surgery to save my dogs eye. She told us the surgery had a 95% success rate. The surgery failed and she never gave us a clear indication as to why. During follow ups , which she did not include in the estimated cost from the beginning .She said she didn't know why it was failing and always said let's give it more time. I paid her over $3000 . I feel robbed. 8 weeks after surgery I gave up on this Dr . I was tired of seeing my dog suffer and took my dog to my vet to remove her eye. I believe Dr Beaumont should have never done the surgery to begin with. I believe my dogs eye was to far gone. But when your in this situation , all you want is to help your dog. read more

The family began talking about putting her down - our little 16 year old maltipoo was miserable. That was before we started seeing Dr. Beaumont. We moved to Texas a few months prior and had seen three different vets over five appointments. No one was able to completely alleviate the redness, squinting, rubbing, crying, yelping, and obvious discomfort that had developed shortly after we moved. Although our dog always had gunky eyes, the discharge was the worst it had ever been. She was starting to snap at my hands when I attempted to clean her eyes so I knew she was really uncomfortable and in pain. I could no longer handle seeing her pacing around the house - yelping as she desperately pawed and scratched at her eyes. Thank goodness the last vet we saw immediately recommended that we see Dr. Beaumont. Fast forward six weeks from then to today, and our dog is now doing fantastic!!! Her eyes look clearer than ever and the discomfort is gone. The difference is truly amazing!!! Additionally and unexpectedly, I'm super surprised to see that now the hair around her eyes which have always been a bit gunky her whole life is suddenly clean and beautiful! I've felt guilty for 16 years as vets in three different states have said that "all I need to do" is to wipe her eyes every day to keep the gunk away. All my efforts and diligence (such as eye rinses, combs, warm wet towels, diet changes, allergy medications, hypoallergenic beddings, increased grooming etc.) have always seemed futile. But now, with Dr. Beaumont's diagnosis and treatment plan, my dog is more beautiful and (importantly) the most comfortable than she's been in 16 years. I was referred to Dr. Beaumont, DVM, at Animal Eye Care Specialists, when my Bichon developed a non-healing corneal ulcer. Dr. Beaumont confirmed the ulcer and perform several tests on both eyes to fully examine them and prescribed keratotomy surgery, which she fully explained the cause, costs, risks, and prognosis. Dr. Beaumont did a keratotomy on his left eye. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable in handling and treating the dogs, explaining the medications prescribed, and follow-up on post-surgery, and calls/messages as reminders for visits. I had my dog with Dr. Beaumont for 3 to 4 years. Very nice people and ok in the beginning. The last year my bostons eye got worse, after spending about $5,000 in 2020 over about 8 months I asked twice about removing the eye. Once in the mid point of treatment, I was told it was not needed at this time by Dr. Beaumont the eye could be saved. Toward the end when I asked again , I was told it would be $3,000 to remove the eye. At that point I had said to Gwen I felt it was all a play to keep me and my money coming back. When Dr. Beaumont called me back at my request her explanation was her judgement on removing the eye went by what she felt was what the owner wanted. If she felt that I did not want the eye removed she should have had the conversation. I felt I made my position known. Mind you I am not the doctor, my dog has been blind for several years and she does not have a lucrative modeling contract. Missing an eye would not hurt her but would hurt their bottom line. At some points we were at 16 to 24 drops in her eye per day, that did disrupt her life and mine. I have waited to write this review because I do blame myself for not stopping the madness sooner. I do feel like a fool. But bottom line they are the specialist and I trusted their judgement. Shame on me. read more

The only reason I am giving only 3 stars is because I found out today from my regular vet that they do an eye enumeration between $85-150 and I had my beloved dog's eye removed with Dr. Beaumont was $1,979.00. I feel totally price gouged, be aware. I already live paycheck to paycheck and am not wealthy or even close to it by any means. My dog was diagnosed with high blood pressure and every time I walked through the door just to check his blood pressure with Dr. Beaumont cost me around $140.00 just to check his blood pressure! Teaches me to go get a second opinion from my regular vet from now on before I agree to any other surgeries. My regular vet that my dogs have been going to ever since they were babies have always been awesome and very fair and do not price gouge! The only reason I went back to Dr. Beaumont this time is because she diagnosed my dogs blindness in January this year because my vet couldn't diagnose his condition and he ended up having SARDS but my dog adjusted to the blindness. I didn't have a problem with the staff's care of my baby and Amy and Michelle were awesome and very empathetic. read more

After two unsuccessful attempts by other vets to determine the cause of our pups eye problem, it was Dr. Beaumont who was able to determine what was bothering our sweet girl. What stood out was her competent staff who were loving and helpful, and then how she seemingly knew that there was something else wrong and bingo was able to pull out a piece of "plant" that was stuck under the third lid of our sweet dog's eye. My dog Ruby developed cataracts in both eyes from diabetes. Her vision was rapidly deteriorating each day and she was becoming sullen and depressed from the impending blindness. Dr. Beaumont successfully removed the cataracts without any complications and for about half the price I was originally quoted by my regular vet. Additionally, Dr. Beaumont informed me that Ruby had a significant and previously undiagnosed heart murmur that will need to be monitored for any future procedures. We're now eight weeks out from surgery and Ruby is back to her goofy self, chasing birds and teasing her older Pomeranian brother, Griffin. I highly recommend that you find another veterinarian opthamalagist. Dr. Beaumont is a scam artist and has made a stressful situation even more stressful. We have a dog that has suddenly developed cataracts in both eyes. We were referred to her by our veterinarian so we felt like we should be able to trust her. Not the case. We have been deceived and quite frankly feel taken advantage of. We asked to have a couple of questions answered 2 days prior to the pre-op exams, never called us back. We were asked to bring our dog between 8 am and 8:30 am. After paying a $500 deposit for pre-op exams, I asked for the Dr. to answer these questions and we're told that she wasn't in yet and would call. 10:30 I still haven't heard from her. I called and left a message. Finally 11:30 I received a call. I asked questions she answered all of them. I felt much better and everything was great. She told me that he would be ready by 1:00 pm. 12:45 I got a call saying that he was done but I can't get him until 2:15 meanwhile I'm right down the street. At this point I'm getting a bad feeling all over again. I went ahead and stopped by to pick him up figuring that we can discuss matters via telephone. No big deal right? After paying the remaining balance we were sat down in the exam room, she first tried to oddly talk us out of surgery after previously telling us that we needed to have it done as quickly as possible. At this point we are more than confused. Then she comes out and says I just don't feel comfortable working with you two so I'm not going to do the surgery. What???? She had absolutely no problem taking our $625! I have a feeling this isn't the first time she has pulled something like this. If you go into the office you will notice that she has 16 surveillancecameras watching the parking lot. Seems to me that she is watching over her shoulder for a reason. read more
