Animal Foundation My husband and I were looking for a Syrian hamster and they didn't have any. We got to say hi to dwarf hamsters and bunnies. There were only a few cats which was incredible, because so often they are full. The dogs, though, broke my heart. Their cages are clean and the animals were all healthy, just sad and lonely. We went to kennel after kennel and it was just heartbreaking to see so many sweet, beautiful, adorable, and needy dogs. It makes me want to beg all of Las Vegas to please go and adopt a sweet new dog, but I know that not everyone wants a dog or can have them for whatever reason. We don't even have dogs, but we do both love them. I just hope that the people who can adopt dogs will go to the animal foundation and help give an animal a forever home. read more

I hate this place so much. They euthanize animals... period. Also, getting a long term foster is such a difficult thing. I've tried numerous times to inquire about a posted pet and by the time I get a response- either it was adopted or an organization came and took the pet. It would be nice to know before I go all the way to north Las Vegas what the availability is. I would hate to go there and it pet is adopted. I've also dropped off strays I've found here like 3x. It's such a loooooonnnggg tedious process! Like they make you wait so long for thier intake. I had at one point had to get staff to help us asap when 2 of the dogs didn't want to go in! It took forever! I'm just disappointed in this place. They are suppose to help these pets but they are so disorganized and they have become one of the biggest high kill organizations here in Vegas. My cat got out and we couldn't find him. Animal Control stopped by our house to let us know that our cat was hit by a car and didn't make it. The officer told us that the Animal Foundation would call to arrange cremation. With little notice they were able to arrange a wake so we could pay our respects to Joey. The room was tastefully decorated and beautiful music was playing. They washed Joey and wrapped him in a towel. The service exceeded our expectations. Everyone we spoke to showed us so much kindness and compassion in our time of grief. We miss him so much. We have his ashes. read more

I've never had a good experience here. My cat had an AirTag on and it said he was here. 4 people told me he wasn't. I sent 3 emails and never got contacted back. Went in showed them my air tag was going off. Then they tell me my cat got put down , hit by a car. I already reached out to the animal control that works in my area and they told me he wasn't fine when they got him but had an injured leg. Showed me photos of him alive. Looked it up and said they had him euthanized but had no idea why. My kids were hurt so I thought I'd lighten the blow with a new kitten. I came to see 4 different ones. 10-14 weeks. I'm not allowed to see any of the kittens I came for. "They are too young" I'd have to do a blind adoption. So I walk the cages . There's 8 week old kittens .... There is no signs anywhere that say not to touch the cats . A lady comes in snapping my head off that they are too young to be touched .. I apologize and say there should be a sign . She claims there is one on the door (there isn't.) I talk to someone online who is fostering a kitten , she gives me his id number and tells me to go sign papers. No one knows what to do. One girl said she's going to email foster and then disappeared and never came back. I just wanted to adopt a kitten and they basically made it impossible and were rude. read more

We took my oldest girl to The Animal Foundation today for her routine shots and overall it was a really good experience. Check in was super easy and the front desk staff were friendly and organized, which I always appreciate especially if you have pets that are a little anxious walking in which you see a little of from other dog parents. Our baby hasn't ever had a bad vet visit so she is happy walking in, even sits on the chair like she is waiting patiently for her turn. We did wait a little past our scheduled appointment time, but it honestly wasn't a big deal. Once we got called back, the doctor and nurse were both very kind and easy to talk to. They didn't rush us and actually listened to my questions. I asked about a small bump she has, and they gave helpful advice and explained what to look out for, which gave me peace of mind. They also complimented my baby girl for being so healthy and well behaved, which made this proud dog mama happy. Overall, the staff was caring, informative, and professional. We'll definitely continue bringing our pets here for routine vaccination care. read more

On the local morning news, there was a story that caught my attention, adoption fees would be waived, for the entire month of August. I don't know if this is still true so I looked it up of Fox 5 News Las Vegas, but I couldn't find the story. NEW RULES FOR CLARK COUNTY, as of August 2025 all dogs must be micro-chipped So I just took a look at the website to see which small dogs were available. Out of 33 small dogs, only 8 were fee-waived dogs. With the recent animal abuse cases, which resulted in death, (Reba's Law- reference) we humans have got to do better. It is so sad to see this. As an animal lover, and a petition signer for Animal Rights, it breaks my heart. We've adopted the last two female dogs from this organization, one of them is still with us, currently, she is 14 years old. I know that this organization has had some issues in the past. I paid $2500 for my cat she is extremely rare, once I found out she was here I called and the woman was extremely rude and said her adoption process of the family that owns her already started. They did not follow the law of 72 hours for her real family (us) to claim her, and when I got ther wouldn't take any form of proof I offered including having the breeder on the phone to provide DNA from parents. She was still at the facility at closing, went in next day at opening and she was gone to the supposed other family who would have had to falsify vet records and pictures to claim her. I lost my cat on Sunday, April 12, and I'm trying to be reunited with my cat. After my baby potato went missing, someone found my cat and brought my baby potato to the Animal Foundation. They told me they were unable to locate the owner, so instead of taking my baby in another family ended up taking my baby potato. I was later able to get in contact with the people who originally found her through the Ring app, and that's how I learned what happened. I'm incredibly heartbroken and just want my cat back. My baby potato is very loved and has a home with me. I'm respectfully asking for any information that could help me get in touch with the family who took my baby potato , or any guidance on how I can be reunited with my cat. I had an amazing time fostering the dog Holley today. I took her out for an hour and a half and we went to the park. We did a few laps. We went on the soccer court we played around. I got to cuddle and pet her, give her water, she didn't want any treats. She was just so energetic and hyper. Well what you can do is go take her out for an hour or two a day if you want to you can actually take any dog out that's here at the shelter and the process took about an hour long, but otherwise I will come back and I really enjoyed my time here. I really would like the whole staff of employees be on same page and not mislead people and telling them the dog or cat or whatever will be coming home with you tomorrow and then that day comes and all your doing is talking to a person and then they telling you that you can't have the new family member until 3-4 days later. I'm writing this with a heavy heart. I recently found a lost cat in my neighborhood who was clearly someone's pet so friendly , gentle, and desperate for help. She was outside in over 100° heat with no food or water, and I had been feeding and caring for her for about a week. She would let me pet her and pick her up she was not feral, just scared, hungry, and lost. When I first called The Animal Foundation, the person on the phone seemed very knowledgeable and reassured me that I could bring her in. However, when I arrived the next day, the information I was given completely changed. At intake, I was asked for my ID before they even checked for a microchip, which felt strange and unnecessary since I made it clear I was just trying to help this poor animal. They finally scanned her no microchip, which didn't surprise me because many pet owners don't have their cats chipped. The staff member told me I had two options: take her back with me or surrender her. If I surrendered her, she would be spayed, vaccinated, have her ear cut, and then be released back to the exact area where I found her. I was completely heartbroken. This cat is clearly not feral she was so skinny when we found her, became very affectionate, and had tried several times to come inside my house. I explained that I couldn't keep her because I own two exotic pets, and that my neighbor has openly threatened to exterminate the cats in our area. I begged them to understand that sending her back outside could be a death sentence.... Despite all of this, I was told that was their policy. I left devastated knowing that this sweet, trusting cat might not get the second chance she deserves. I'm writing this in hopes that someone at The Animal Foundation reconsiders what's being done to lost, not feral, and simply in need of compassion and a safe home. Please, give her a home she deserves it. My neighbor has made comments about unaliving the cats in the area or as he put it "exterminate" Please, I plead with you do not return this cat to the streets. My experience with The Animal Foundation was heartbreaking. My dog, Doughboy (who they listed as Thor), was my emotional support dog. After we moved to Las Vegas he accidentally slipped away, and I searched everywhere for him -- checking shelters constantly and calling around. Eventually I discovered he had been picked up and taken to The Animal Foundation, but when I called they told me he had already been adopted the day before. What was especially upsetting was the conflicting information about his microchip. The shelter listing showed no microchip, but when I called I was first told they had tried contacting me through the chip. Later I was told the chip actually had the previous owner's information, which is why I was never reached. I understand shelters have policies and I respect that he now has a new family. I am not trying to take him back. However, when I asked if they could simply forward a message to the adopter so I could ask for the chance to see him one last time and say goodbye, they refused. This place is great. They have many dogs and cats in the shelter. More medium-large dogs. If they are over 1 year old, the dog is free of all charges. Walked out with my dog after just signing a few things. They supply you with dog food and you get a free visit with their vet. They give you lots of information on the animals. My only complaint is the wait times. We came around 4pm and were put on the meet and greet list, but at 6:45 they stopped all the meet and greets and we did not get a chance with her. We were not made aware they were cutting it off until we were at the #1 spot then removed. :( We had to return the next day. It's understandable, they're probably short-staffed and it's a long process. She was spayed for free which definitely is an extra plus. Healthy dog. Staff is kind. you're better off adopting from a different facility or shelter. The meet & greet-to-adoption process is janky and workers will leave you looking silly and left in the dark majority of the time. I joined queue around 5pm, sat at #1 in meet & greet queue for nearly 30mins with no help from workers. It wasn't until past 7pm that I finally saw a worker return to the adoption desk, asked them about the queue and my position, and was told to "come earlier" because queue rush happens at 6pm. I informed them that I had been in queue prior to 6pm, to which she replied "just gonna have to come earlier than that". They then proceeded to remove me from queue. I had to tell all of the others waiting in the lobby that meet & greets were closed because there were many people still sitting around waiting for their turns. I'm not even a worker nor volunteer and yet I, ME, had to be the one to tell other waiters that it was closed. Complete waste of time. It didn't used to be this horribly unorganized and tedious when I adopted my first cat. Do not recommend with the way they run things now. Rude and inconsiderate workers that hide until closing time. Look, I'm all for nonprofits but being a patron of this one was a NIGHTMARE. We were picking up a friends cats who were surrendered there and transporting them back to Arizona for the friend who was unable to get them himself. We show up the day of - the friend has already filled out all the paperwork - only to wait 2 HOURS to tell us that we couldn't get the cats that night. They knew our situation and could have easily told us this 30m into our visit when we spoke to someone. We were told they could be picked up the next day if they were both neutered (which they were) by 12. One cat was available one was not. So we waited. Until 4:30 when we were told we could go. Then we proceed to wait another 40m only to be told the cats were in a different building. Easily the most frustrating experience and could have easily been avoided and managed better. 0/10 recommend. read more

Due to the severe overcrowding of pets in this busines, euthanation seems to occur daily, pets are contained in their crates, developing increased anxiety and stress, little people interaction except for field day outings. This county needs better facilities for stray, and animals surrendered from their owners. We adopted a 3 yr old named summer and she is the sweetest, she has not barked and was house trained and is very leash trained. Cost us only 10 bucks instead of thousands for a puppy at a store. I adopted two kittens from here and they are so brave and sweet! They bonded with our other two kittens immediately and my boyfriend and I the next day. All four of them were in a purring cuddle pile napping on my lap today and I just couldn't stop happy crying. The staff here were all great and all the animals seemed well cared for. Twi years ago I write a review how that place was run by teens. At the time we were looking for a dog for our dog. The line was long and 3 1/2 hrs we get to the front and teens were running it. I asked about a dog and they said he was gone. They said I would have to get back in the line after that many hours standing. I brought a friend to get loaner traps for TNR to the clinic side. The lady at the front desk had colorful hair and a bright smile! She was kind and trying to multi task with a busy lobby. They do vaccines there. But no longer spay n neuter, which would be great if they did. My review is based on that lady's customer service and her positive attitude. The borrowed traps also mean you can take then to a local spay n neuter clinic to get community cats fixed. It's a wonderful resource to stop the growing cat population. This place is always busy. Which I'm happy for. Unfortunately they are very understaffed which is really hard for them to do their job at 100%. However, all the kennels with the dogs had piss and poop all in them and they were just stepping in it. It's smart that they have a system for a Queue because it's extremely busy, which is great because that means animals are getting adopted! However, because the line is so long and the staff is so short they have meet and greet rooms that are all empty so if you go deciding to adopt, make sure you have the entire day to dedicate to this because it takes a long time. I would also recommend looking around the facility at the cats and dogs before while you are in the meet and greet queue because if you see a pet that you want, you can automatically go back and adopt it in the system and you will get your paperwork done faster there. Unfortunately, they only have cardboard boxes to put cats, which they hate, so if you have a cat carrier, maybe bring it in the car to transfer the cat, or else it's gonna be a wild ride. There are times where because they're understaffed the animal that you want looks available, but then you find out hours later that it is adopted so I would just check with the people in the front desk before getting your hopes up. Lastly, I do recommend you do donations when you adopt they are in dire need right now for help so if you're looking to volunteer definitely now is the time! My friend adopted a cat and it was only $25. They gave her a shot and she's still going to get spayed. The dogs are a little more expensive range $200+. So be prepared. Some of the genders are undetermined, which means that they most likely haven't been looked at since they've been in the kennel because they've been too busy or animal won't let them touch them. On January 31 around noon, the employee with long reddish blonde hair who was working behind the double doors near the dog suites was extremely overwhelmed and unhelpful. She struggled with the computer system and could not clearly explain the process to potential adopters. She kept telling people to use the computer when she actually meant the app, which left multiple people confused. She was not tech savvy and could not handle even a small line. I ended up helping another adopter figure out what to do because they were left completely confused. To make things worse, someone who arrived after me was helped before I was. I understand that she was trying her best, but the situation was poorly handled. Employees need better training with computers, apps, and basic customer service so adopters are not left frustrated or ignored. I took in a mama cat and her 4 babies to foster. Everything went great, stayed with us for about 2 months. Now the problem was when I brought them back so they can get adopted. Sat in the waiting room for over 20 minutes with not one word said to me. I was the ONLY person in the waiting room to by the way. Someone finally comes out and takes mama. Leaves the babies with me. 30 minutes later she comes back and takes the babies. Mind you, this is only to drop them off, I was handing them back over so they can get adopted out. When she finally comes back to give me my carriers back, she said sorry for the wait and walks away. Total of an hour and 20 minutes with an appointment to just "drop off". Not a single thank you for taking care of these cats with providing a home, food, love and care that I gave them. Didn't even ask for their names we gave them, pictures we took, nothing. After this experience for fostering for the Animal Foundation, I will never do this again. I filled out an application to become a foster. I walked in and within 2030 minutes Taylor was such an amazing help. She told me everything I needed plus made I had all the information I needed to take care of the babies plus all of the supplies. She was very attentive to all of my questions which I had very few because she was so helpful. Please don't hesitate to go in and foster these babies. A year and a half after my previous experience was a huge surprise. I visited on a Saturday. The shelter procedures are much more organized. Upon entry, visitors can scan a code to fill out info and get a number in line to visit or adopt dogs. (You can walk thru the kennels and browse if you want first.) My phone does not scan, so I was able to check in at the front desk. (technically challenged) After getting the number, down the hall is a place to sit and wait. There is a TV with updates of various kinds. You can see your number come up. You also get messages on your phone for your update. Eventually, your name is called and a desk rep takes your info. You wait awhile outside and the dog you want to visit is brought to you. The place is very clean and with only a few people (like my visit) it is quiet. There were quite a few people looking at dogs. I did not adopt a dog. I went there to sign up to be a foster. That desk is also organized for foster, day trips, and more. Overall I was greatly impressed. -- However, I can never give 5 stars because I believe there are too many animals not given enough chance, some aren't even seen because they're not in the browsing area, and far too many are killed. I understand that different factors play into this, but I have noticed, via a rescue group I'm in, that some euthanasia is given too quickly, in my opinion. read more

I volunteer here and see it from another perspective where the organization is severely understaffed and the volume of terrible pet owners returning their pets and their litters is WAY TOO HIGH. TAF does the best they can with limited resources all while keeping a good pulse on every pet they have. Every pet I have taken out has been described perfectly to a T through their trainers. Even though this is considered a high kill shelter, it is solely due to the fact they will get overcrowded and have to make room for terrible pet owners bringing back their pets because they were too old, too young, not enough time.
