I was in Venice beach with my wife and we came across this antique shop. We were greeted right off the bat by an employee that made our visit extremely enjoyable by her charm and great personality. I was looking for an old belt buckle to go with an old belt I bought a while back. she pointed me to there buckles and what they had. Moments later, A nice gentlemen came out, greeted us. I saw behind the register on a shelf an old buckle that looked like a hammer from a distance but was an old tobacco pipe belt buckle he found from the 60s or early 70s that was a one of a kind piece and still actually worked and made of Solid brass. We talked and they didn't have what I was actually looking for but he didn't hesitate to open up a box of old items they had just sitting behind the counter and offer me a look. I happened to see one I could use and inquired on the price, he said it was on the house! I couldn't believe it, I insisted to pay and asked again, what would you take for this? He said again, it's on the house, just enjoy it! I had to come on here and rate his store a 10/10 for my experience. You just don't run into people that are kind hearted and want to make someone's day. Now, every time I wear this buckle I'll think of this store, the kind owner and his friendly employee. When I'm Venice, I'll always stop and give my business to Animal House Antiques and Consignment . Maybe I'll be lucky enough to bless someone else like he did. read more

I liked that their were both new and recycled items - there is something for everyone, and nothing is too overpriced. I purchased a vintage style tshirt for my girlfriend, and a sustainably made black zip up (which everyone needs!) The whole place had a great ambiance, and the original owner works the register. The first time I came here I was intrigued by the badass collection they have. However, I was SUPER disappointed by the nerve they have selling a Guns N' Roses T-shirt for like $90. Like does it have Slash's sweat still on it? Insane! No way am I paying that. I said I was never coming back.... Until I did....thanks to the long wait at Eggslut... and I found the coolest Alice In Chains t shirt for $10!!! What a steal! I found so many other t shirts reasonably priced this day and the girl at the register informed me that Tuesday's and Thursday's are the best days to come for new vintage. Conclusion: I think the prices very and the you really can find some amazing items if you just keep checking in. I'll be back and I highly recommend. read more

This is a fun little gem of a store. Came in looking for blundstone's and came across many other sweet finds. Lots of cool pants, corduroy, levis, cool vintage tops and great jewelry. The staff was warmp, welcoming and so helpful. Needless to say I got the Blundstone's and a couple other unique finds. Hit this place up if your'e into cool threads and things you won't find at the mall. read more

Strolling around in Venice we stumbled upon Animal House and decide to go in. There was a good mix of vintage and name brand new clothes. Lots of hats for guys, tons of flip flops and good deals on the sales racks. I love LA Made and Splendid brand clothing and this place had a huge selection and for pretty reasonable prices. A few bucks cheaper than Macy's or Nordstrom at least. But what I could not stop staring at were the Mukluks. They are tall, multicolored sweater like slipper socks with suede bottoms. They were only $10 bucks so i said what the hey it's pay day and I scooped me up a pair. Staff working was friendly. Will be returning! Mukluks for all this Christmas! read more

Animal House has always been my go to place before I shop anywhere else. I work in a clothes store in Sunset Park and when people are looking for that specific vintage, cool as hell item of clothes that you have to have I send them to Animal House. They have great new clothes as well. It all started for me on 2006 when I was looking for a pair of used Frye engineer boots and and something sexy to wear with them. I was on a mission and wondered into Animal House. There was my wish list! Always find what I am looking for or something better. Let me start by saying, I LOVE Animal House. It is one of my favorite shops in Venice. Everytime I go there I leave with something whether it be vintage or new. I usually shop in the sale section b/c the new stuff seems a bit spendy for what it is. Whoever is buying there does a great job. I've found some great vintage Pringle sweaters there. They also have a great collection of vintage Pucci. Sometimes they are a little bit cheaper then department stores sometimes a little more expensive but only by a couple of bucks. Overall I think their competitive. Definitely worth it to shop here and get some unique pieces for your wardrobe. read more

I passed by the store walking toward the boardwalk and was actually very interested. Made my way back to the store after walking around for a bit because I saw a bunch of brands I was genuinely interested in. It was about 5 mins after being in their I was kicked out by the guy who runs that place because I took a picture of myself in the mirror. I hardly ever dress cute and was really feeling the way I looked. I already had stuff I wanted to purchase and he said I had to take pictures of his products in order for it to be okay. It was a really weird experience and all I could think of what made him that angry to lash out on me like that. There's a great combination of vintage and new clothing with a small selection of Vans and books in the back as well. Where's all the vintage? Gorgeous and cozy layout. Fun and great conditioned clothes... but not so much vintage. It's mostly new things with a few pieces here and there. I took a walk on my lunch to see what people were talking about. I loved many of the dresses I saw there. I wished they were smaller. I wished they were priced a bit lower. However despite many of the items being very cute here, they were far more expensive and not anything super "I'll never find this anywhere else." Most everything in that store was on the pricier ($20+) left of center. There are new books and shoes in the back. There's some great hats on the top of the front spindles. It's a touch too posh for where it's located to me personally. It's a shop that comes off like it should be in Santa Monica.. not Venice. I just didn't feel the heart I am used to feeling in a real thrift store. *shrug* read more

Animal House has always been one of favorite stores in Venice. They have great items even if they do have tourist prices I don't begrudge then because their staff is so friendly and amazing. I bought my favorite jeans there and just bought a plaid shirt lined in fleece that is so warm! I get candles and other items there as gifts and people love them. It was my second time here & I was disappointed they still didn't have many xs or s sizes. Also, the prices are higher then other shops. Probably because of the tourists. But the store is cute & has quite a selection of larger sizes. They shouldn't fill the racks so full though because it makes it hard to look through. This is one of the best vintage places in all of LA! Trust me, I've done a lot of thrifting throughout CA, Midwest and a few countries in EU. It's a beloved hobby of mine! I've been going here for over 4 years and I feel so bad for not reviewing sooner! This place is my secret treasure! I always pick up the best Asian vintage pieces, from short authentic kimonos to Chinese weaved dress shirts. The store is neatly laid out and all of their vintage selection is properly cleaned. The store doesn't have the funky stale smell you get when walking in the thrift store. The prices are also very affordable for Venice! I will continue to always shop here when I need a to restock my closet with timeless treasures! They restock their inventory very Tuesday and Thursday! read more
