They're cheap, but.... they're cheap. You definitely get what you pay for here. I've been coming here with my cat and dogs for two years. I can now say that I've seen consistently dismissive/rude front desk staff. They aren't friendly, have attitude, and are usually just bare minimum when it comes to professionalism. I can't stand dealing with the front desk people, it's like you're inconveniencing them from something they'd rather be doing. The vet I see is older and experienced but rushed, which leaves me wondering a lot and I don't feel like I ask enough questions in time. And because I'm rushing I feel slightly anxious and forget what I was even going to ask. Some of the vet techs are nice and friendly, and maybe one office staff person that I've experienced. Most visits are as I described. And I get it, they're a lower-cost veterinary office than others and they take Care Credit but two years of consistently bad experiences brought me to this review and also quitting this vet. I prefer Loop 363, they are very professional and friendly and dr bodecker takes her time, she looks things up with me when she doesn't know the answer, she really seems to care when she's in the room. Night and day difference with Loop363 vs Animal Medical Care. AMC is constantly busy so they're running appointments in an out like cattle, it's just a terrible experience overall. read more

We had a heartbreaking emergency yesterday with our Sugarbear baby. She passed so suddenly and this Vet was open for us to rush to. The empathy, care, attention, kindness, understanding and respect that we received in the blink of an eye was incredible. We lost her yesterday and the transparency from the doctor was so important. We live in RR and I will absolutely drive the 45 minutes it takes to come here just because of the hearts that work here. Thank you for being there for strangers. You're so appreciated. read more

First of all, they Can't handle the volume of customers that come there. Any time you call, you're immediately placed on hold for, most times, lengthy periods. Today, I took my cat in to have his front claws trimmed. The young lady who took him to the back to trim his claws promptly returned and said they couldn't get him out of his carrier, and that he had hissed at her...... so they would not be able to trim his claws. I mean, come on........ surely him hissing isn't grounds to refuse service. The main part of their job is being able to "handle animals". I have been a customer for years and have never been so readily dismissed. There's a reason why people take their cats in for a trimming. It's because they are too difficult at home. We count on our vets to help us provide solutions to help care for our pets. I was somewhat taken aback when I was refused service. read more

I was hesitant to post a review and wanted to just let this go, but after reading other people's poor reviews, I feel obligated to warn others not to take their pet here. I adopted a wonderful kitten through pet connect rescue who had been recently neutered and seen by Animal Medical Care for his tests, vaccines, etc prior to the adoption. Thinking I should use the same vet he had seen before, I have now visited twice and can confidently say I will NEVER bring my pets here again. The long story: I changed my cats name when I adopted him as people commonly do. About a week after the adoption, we visited Animal Medical Care after his neuter by them had a complication. I shared my cats new name and presented the vet tech with the records they already should have had on file in his old name. Despite doing this, nobody thought to "connect the accounts." Unfortunately, that was just the start of my issues with them. Every time I call I am on hold over 15 minutes, which we all can agree is excessive. They give the same excuse each time of having emergencies to deal with and being short staffed. I get it, things come up, and I'm generally a pretty understanding person, but this is a repeat pattern of really just seeming to not have it all together. Can you not hire someone else to man the phones? Plenty of good people out there are looking for work... Even if you get past being on hold, you will be told they have no appointments available for weeks but that you can come in during their walk in hours. They tell you they can't guarantee you'll be seen, meaning you may wait who knows how long and they can still turn you away. If you're short staffed and demand is that high, why are you even accepting new patients, let alone walk ins? I was willing to look past this and just take my business elsewhere, but am now sitting here taking more time out of my day to write this because of how difficult it was this morning just to get my cats records. Lo and behold after three phone calls we were finally able to make that connection between my cats old and new accounts and I was emailed the correct records. I'm seeing these records for the first time, and its just awesome to see my cat is past due for two of his vaccines. Did you think to let me know that the last two times I visited? I find it to be a huge red flag that you do not have systems and procedures in place to track the due dates for things like vaccines or dental cleanings. Every other vet I have visited in my life has given me a heads up that this or that is coming due. If it's been 6 months to a year and they haven't seen me, I'm used to getting a call to remind me to schedule a wellness check or pick up more preventative meds. Is it Animal Medical Care's responsibility to ensure my cat is up to date on everything? No, I am partly to blame. But if that's the standard best practice around here, can I ask why you are not doing that? It comes across to me as if you don't care about my cat and nobody is keeping track of his health. I cannot trust that your clinic will be there to help my cat when the time comes for an inevitable injury or illness. And I cannot in good faith recommend others visit you because of this neglect of care. Our animals deserve the best. Do better. Tl;dr: they are an unreliable vet office that doesn't seem to really care about your pets and is also somehow slammed all the time. I highly recommend Belton Veterinary Clinic off loop 121 for alternate care. They got me in same day when my cat had an ear infection and provided great service in a timely manner. Prices were reasonable, the location was clean, and it felt far more orderly. I have nothing but positive things to say about the staff who saw my cat. I wish I remembered the name of the vet and vet tech because they were so kind and patient with my kitty. You can tell they truly care about their patients and that they take pride in their business, which makes all the difference. read more

I have been trying to find Vet for a new pet. The reviews for veterinarians in my are not great. I chose this place because it was the closest. I called to set up an appointment but was told they mostly did walk ins with no open appointments that week. I showed up at 1:30 pm and did not see Dr. Black until 4:00 pm. The office staff is nice, vets professional, pricing extremely reasonable compared to other vets in the area, and my animals seem to enjoy when they've been boarded there. These people are wonderful and Dr Black is awesome! They went above and beyond to make sure my furbaby, who wasn't even a client of theirs, got top notch care. 3 weeks ago I called my vet (since 2014), Belton Vet because my 9 yr old furbaby was paralyzed in his back legs. They wanted me to wait 2 days for an appt or do a walk-in which the girl told me would be at least 4hr wait. I told her my dog was paralyzed, couldn't walk or go to the bathroom. Her response to an 8 yr client with a paralyzed dog was, "I can't change the rules." They have lost 10 of our family's dogs. Anyway, I was desperate and called a new place, Animal Medical Care and explained what was happening. They told me to come immediately. When we arrived, they checked us in and said it may be a little wait. We stay in our car waiting to keep my dog quiet and calm. Not even 15 minutes later, one of the techs came out to get us. A female tech kind of examined Jordan but because of his serious condition she couldn't do much. Dr Black came within minutes. Looked Jordan over and they took him back for xrays. He had herniated/blown discs. Dr Black had one of the ladies call Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital Round Rock (absolutely top notch, saved my furbaby). They sent all the info to them so we didn't have to worry about anything. This group at Animal Medical Care went above and beyond for a pet that was not a patient or client. The surgeon at the surgical clinic said we only had a 48 hour window and thanks to Dr Black and his crew, we got there in plenty of time. All of our 10 family dogs will be going to Animal Medical Care now. Looking forward to kind, compassionate care for all our furbabies. Thank you all so very much! read more

First time bringing my 5lb Yorkie in for a dental. Unless you don't care about your babies being dropped off at 7:30am (having fasted) only to wait till the end of the day for their dental this is your place. I called at 2:15 to check up on him thinking he was recovering and they would tell me to come get him shortly. Nope. They hadn't even started him. I was told they do dentals last!!! I said I am on my way to get him. Absolutely ridiculous. I will gladly pay more elsewhere. I feel like a horrible pet mom for leaving him in their care. Please go elsewhere!! read more

Firehouse RR took care of my Turbo along with another Vet in Temple ( Animal Medical Center) . They ( Animal Medical Care Temple from February to August 2023) totally missed a mass that was there to follow even though it was seen on Ultrasound, was told it was okay , dismissed it being small, early on . Turbo was being treated for Collapsing Trachea, with persistent cough at both vets , Turbo got worse which led me back to Firehouse Vet in RR ... ..Firehouse RR did Turbo's final surgery whereby he had the benign mass was in his spleen. Turbo 's cough was worse since surgery, recorded videos were sent, various days, and he had gone to Firehouse Vet that day, and received an antibiotic injection, and readjusted medications. Turbo had progressively become worse throughout the day, unable to walk, and full of fluid that he subsequently drowned in, passed away. I felt like something could have been done more than to send him home in that shape. Very disappointed in both vets needless to say. read more

I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place at all. PLEASE READ THIS before you take a real sick dog to them. We took our sick, almost 5 yr old, dog on our first time using this Dr. Black (who came recommended to us). He ran labs and found that Beedo, our dog, had Pancreatitis and would have to stay there to receive fluids and meds intravenously. That was Friday afternoon. He called us, as he said he would, on Saturday morning and said Beedo seemed to be improving. We went to visit him and love on him & Dr. Black said if he can eat on Monday and keep it down he will be able to go home. Sunday morning I get a call from the clinic but was not able to answer it in time, so a message was left and the message said Beedo had taken a turn for the worst. (he had my husband's number as well but didn't try calling him) The only number I had to call was the office number and instead of it going to their answering service it went to a message that said they were in a meeting. So I had NO WAY to contact Dr. Black. We decided to drive over there and see if we could get in with anyone who was there so we could be with our sweet baby. The Kennel tech was there and said he could not let us in even though I told him my dog may be dying. He said he would have to get ahold of Dr. Black but he was in church so he couldn't reach him. We waited there awhile outside (while our dog was dying) and then went home. We got a call around noon from Dr. Black who told us Beedo had passed away. Everything about this was wrong!!! When we went in Monday to speak to him he said it was there procedure to not let anyone in because the staff there on Sunday weren't trained. For What? For us to go and sit with our dying dog!!!!! I asked him if I could've answered the phone in time would he have given permission to let us in and he said yes he would have. DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? Why didn't he leave word with the kennel tech that we could get in if we showed up? Our precious dog died alone in a cage, in a strange environment and to me that is the worst thing possible. I have always been with my dogs when they are dying. Ours is the last face they should see because they are comforted by those that so dearly loved him. I don't blame Dr. Black for Beedo dying but I DO BLAME HIM for not letting us be with our dying dog. He was important to us , he was family to us and I don't think highly of a vet WHO ISN'T COMPASSIONATE TOWARD THE ANIMAL AND IT'S OWNERS. And they "say" on their website and on signs at the office that they are compassionate. Sorry - WRONG! BEWARE IF YOU GO THERE. Took my dog there to get neutered, I was worried because he's 3yo so I thought it would be hard on him, but they and he did great! It was $100 cheaper than other vets (he's 81pounds so the price goes up). He was so sleepy the first day but in the evening he was already running like nothing happened to him. He also came come with meds for 2 days and it was included in the price already. The staff was also nice and helpful. read more

Our family has been going to Dr. Crews for over fifty years. He is retired, but we still take our pets into the clinic see him as often as possible. We also use Dr. Koonsen and Dr. Black now when Dr. Crews is not available. I noticed that there were negative comments about service at the front desk. I have never had a bad experience of any kind at the front desk. The girls might be busy, and not able to make a lot of small talk with you, folks. I worked for 35 years myself, and believe me, there are days when you are doing your best to keep up with the phones and the people in front of your desk. And you don't mean to be rude to anyone! Here is a little story on my two rascals Spike and bunny Spike is a 5 year old Boston terrier And bunny a 1 year old rescue pit red healer mix (mutt) After a bunch of visits to another popular store they just couldn't figure out what he had, it only took 1 visit to this office here to figure it out, spike was treated and back to an old grumpy and crazy doggy! Bunny I came across at a gas station close to work gentleman said he couldn't take care of her anymore so I decided to give her a home wife as usual hated the idea lol but bunny is very friendly loyal and always looking after my kiddos and looking out for spiky Bunny was bitten by rattle snake in our back yard once and brought her the first morning they checked her in immediately. Last December I had a car accident that man I just can't believe that me and bunny are alive we didn't get seriously injured but poor bunny broke her rear left hind, brought her in the next morning and same excellent service I really couldn't believe on the price, very fair honest and prices are great !! Scout says a big shout out for getting those bad teeth out of his mouth, he feels like a puppy again! Thank you to your vet and staff for taking such good care of his dental needs. On top of that, at our request, you plucked the hair from his ears, expressed his anal glands and removed a skin tag all with one sleepy time! It costs extra but it was worth it to see him feeling so much better. The vet and staff obviously took very good care of him as his personality is certainly reflecting of feeling of wellness and wellbeing! Pawsome job! They have been polite to me, up until recently. They seem to just not care anymore. The front desk ladies, and I think ones name is Tawnee, is just so rude to me. I went in today to treat my dog for worms, and when I was checking out she didn't say anything polite. It was just "it's $xx.xx." then as I'm putting my card back there's no thank you, there's no have a good day, nothing. And I could HEAR them talking about me as I'm heading to the door. I have been going to them with all of my animals, but after today I am DONE. I would like the owner, or someone to contact me regarding this, because that's ridiculous. read more

I took my cat in to see Dr. Koonsen because I was concerned about her lethargy and I wanted an RX for Advantage Multi. He said, " Fine, we have that here and we match prices." Told him I buy my supplies online; he didn't say anything more. When I went to order the RX from Chewy, they tried for 10 days to get it approved. I called the clinic but was unable to find out the problem. Chewy wasn't given specific info either; they were simply ignored. Finally 18 days later I found out Dr. Koonsen does not approve Rx's; you can only buy it from HIM. What's worse, you cannot order it over the phone and pick it up. You have to go to an office supply place, print out the Chewy price from online... take it in on one of the few days Dr. Koonsen works, then sit and wait for him between certain hours and he will try to get to you between appointments. BTW his price is $20-25 above the Chewy price. And he cannot just look at the price on your phone display. It has to be a printout. So what if you cannot get it to printout from the website? Well, you are out of luck!!!! All of this burden put on a 70 year-old cat owner with 3 risk factors for CoVID19. And, he charged me $54 just to look at my cat and listen to her heart for 3 minutes. BAD DEAL, RISKING CUSTOMER HEALTH!!!! read more

These wonderful folks have been taking care of our beloved cats for about 5 years. This past week they were kind enough to see us without notice, as we had emergencies with our cats. The ladies at the front desk were kind enough to squeeze our cats in and Dr. Black was kind enough to examine them. In the past, Dr. Koonsen and Dr. Crews have also been great!!! The ladies at the front desk, those that help the veterinarians in the exam rooms, and the veterinarians have always treated us an our cats wonderfully. Drs. Crews, Koonsen and Black have been my veterinarians for decades and decades, and they are always so kind and caring. Every interaction has been positive, and they have cared for a myriad collection of dogs and cats through the years! Today, I had to have my little rescue cat euthanized, due to advanced old age and kidney failure, and they were so, so kind to us. I drive more than 50 miles each way to see them, and I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. The staff is amazing. read more

Animal Medical Care provided me with the worst veterinary experience I've had in my life. I have been around animals since I was little so I am no stranger to vets. The only reason I brought my kitten here was for the voucher deal with the shelter that is next door (this is where I adopted my boy). On my first visit to this clinic the receptionists were reasonably welcoming but after their greeting I received no hospitality. Nobody introduced themselves or seemed affectionate with my kitten. I noticed that the room I was put in had dog treats in it and while this may seem harmless a cat can smell the dogs that have been in that room and can cause them even more anxiety than they already have. Vets should know that right? I wish there were rooms dedicated to the care of cats although I guess it wouldn't matter as they do not seem to care about cats anyway. Kitten was only getting vaccinations which sounds simple but I also expressed concerns regarding some wheezing that kitten had to the tech and when brought to the attention of the vet (which I will discuss next) did not even address it or seem even mildly interested. The vet, whose name I still do not know because he never introduced himself, bursts into the room and starts to manhandle my kitten. Thankfully kitten is easy going but I felt extremely uncomfortable with the way the vet held him. The vet was in an obvious rush and presented me with no answer to my kittens wheezing. I brushed this experience off because I like to think the best of people, but when I returned three weeks later it was the same thing all over again. Also, this time kittens tooth was coming in crooked and the vet said it needed to be pulled. In addition, kitten will be neutered during the dental procedure. I anticipated more details from the vet regarding surgery but he proceeded to shove kitten back in his carrier and walked out of the room. No education regarding the procedure, no explanation of why kittens teeth were messed up, nothing. I am now becoming slightly irritated now. The surgery is scheduled (no information given about price and prep) and I return two days later to drop kitten off. Later that afternoon I come back to pick up kitten and I am handed a disheveled and dirty animal in the lobby with no privacy. The vet does not meet with me to say how things went, what to expect, when to come back, or give any instructions on post op care. I'm shooed out and I return home with kitten. Since then his jaw has become misaligned and his teeth grind together. Never will I ever recommend or return to this clinic. read more

I was given a quote of $65 to neuter my kitten. I took him in last week. The front desk had 2 contact phone numbers for me. When I went to pick up my kitten, the bill was $179.50! I understand he was a crypt; however, the staff did not call me to let me know or to check to see if I wanted to continue and do the surgery. I had to budget for the surgery and did not have the additional $114.50. I was shocked and too upset that I just went home. I had to call my bank to put a stop payment on a bill to keep my account from overdrawing. If I had been given a phone call, I could have rescheduled when I had the funds available. read more
