For over 20 years We have been taking all our rescue cats for their regular and as needed veterinarian visits to Animal Medical Center of Appleton. We feel very blessed and well cared for. Once again we had a wonderful visit for a change in condition in our 11 year old Princess. She had a seizure and this was her first. The arrangement for care and the visit were, as always appropriately provided by kind and competent staff. The multiple health issues Princess has makes a thorough assessment with gathering history and changes in Princess's behavior, routine as well as symptoms, diet, mobility, etc. necessary. I have always felt the staff are patient, thorough, and use critical thinking skills to gather health history, determine and discussing wanted testing, and needs of patient and family for the comfort and peace of mind for all. Zero stars if I could. I've been bringing my cats here since 1997. They were wonderful until about 3 years ago when all of the original staff started leaving or retiring. The current staff is clueless on how to treat a pet parent when going through the trauma of losing a pet, then get sassy when you call them on it. Now that Dr. Chris has retired they will no longer be seeing my cats. read more

I want people know about my horrible experience so they don't need to go through what my family had to. We put our trust in Dr Keri Weyenberg and Dr Christine Barber with all our medical care and treatment of our amazing pets for several years. Our Black Lab Buddy was under their care for several years, he was seen by them several times a year for his shots, nail trimming, physical and allergies. He was a healthy, active dog. We noticed a small lump on his left side three years ago and they told us it just a fatty tumor, it kept growing and we kept asking them if we should be concerned and have it tested and or removed because they do surgery there. They did a generic test with a needle and said it was NOT cancerous and nothing to worry about. We trusted them but it kept getting bigger. Buddy had a complete yearly check up by them 1/26 and again Dr Keri said nothing to be concerned about, the tumor was the size of a cantaloupe melon!!. 2/26 I called them because I was bothering him and I just wanted the tumor removed because he was have trouble walking and it was rubbing on his leg. I brought him that week to set up surgery and she now decided to do X-rays , Dr Chris told me it was too large for them to remove it and NOW it could be cancer!! There is nothing they can do !! I told her that the tumor just didn't grow overnight and asked why they let it go so long and didn't suggest taking it out sooner and have a biopsy done! She said " I'm not God"!!! We ended up taking Buddy to UW Madison Vet hospital for cancer. We paid $4000 to have tests, MRI, c scan. The cancerous tumor started outside his ribs, grew into his chest and into his limp nodes. This could have been treated and removed months ago, a biopsy and surgery could have prevented the cancer spreading and ending his life early. I had to say good bye to my best friend and companion we lost him on 2/14/26. He missed his 10th birthday by a few months. He was the most amazing, loyal, loving , happy dog I ever had , he was family and miss him every day. Don't trust these doctors with your family members like we did. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. My then 4-month old puppy, a border collie, was first diagnosed with giardia, an intestinal parasite, in early April 2024. We took him to AMC. They treated, he seemed to get better but then less than a week later had same symptoms. All together, AMC treated him four different times but when I asked why they did not give him both Panacur and metrodinazole together (they were doing it separately), the vet said in a rather condescending voice "well, he IS a border collie!" When I asked what that meant, she said some herd dogs have a recessive gene MDR1, drug resistance, and the vet gave me a printout about it. It seems to me if that was a genuine fear, why not ask me in April 2024 if he had been tested? Why wait until November and the fourth time my dog is ill to mention this????? It was just a call to the breeder to learn they test all their dogs and he is negative. Instead, they treat him 4 times over 8 months without success, and do not mention MDR1 until November 4 2024??? I just do not understand this. This last time, November 4, he was treated with both drugs but on November 19 he tested positive again for giardia. AMC always blamed it on me not being sanitary enough, not picking up after him and insisted he was getting reinfected. I got a new vet, on November 21 he was treated successfully with much higher dose of both drugs and has not had any recurrence of giardia. But after 8 months of being undertreated for giardia, he was so skinny you could feel his spine, ribs, and hips. His weight seemed not a problem to AMC. My new vet said to me "he weights 47 pounds. At his age he should be 60 pounds." I am happy to report that he is finally healthy, has an appetite for the first time in 9 months (giardia makes you feel full all the time), and his digestive system is getting back to normal. I do NOT recommend Animal Medical Center for anything. Add to this that with some of my other animals, they have, at least three times, given us the wrong amount of medications, a situation that required we return to AMC for enough medications to finish a treatment. This last time with my dog I made the vet tech count out the medications in front of me. My new vet? No medications are given to a pet owner unless checked by a vet and a vet tech or two different vet techs. read more

Absolutely love Animal Medical Center of Appleton! I called Monday and was able to get an appointment the next day for my little African Fat Tail Gecko. Dr. Barber is very knowledgeable of reptiles and geckos in particular. She took the time to get Darwin (our gecko) to get comfortable with her before doing an exam on his mouth. She then took the time to educate to provide a better enclosure for Darwin and explained the medication we would need to give him at home. I am blown away by the compassion and knowledge the Animal Medical Center of Appleton gave us today. I would recommend anyone with a reptile or a pet in general to come here! They were very sweet the first time I came there, happy to see me and my rabbit and friendly since I was a new client but the second time I came to get some medicine for my rabbit they were rude and unwelcoming. When I first walked towards the entrance the person at the front desk was talking to someone so I was going to stand behind the person and was going to wait for my turn but once we stepped in she stop talking immediately and look at me, I told her the reason why I was in there and she made it seem like I was an inconvenience, I was surprised by her actions and emotions because the first meeting she was welcoming and nice. I don't know if she had a bad day but I felt sad after because after she got my rabbits medication she questioned why I had my rabbit and asked if I needed help with it, her tone and the way she had asked made it seem like everyone should know how to medicate their animal and made it seem like I was over dramatic by bringing my rabbit but I didn't want to do anything wrong and came to them since they are professionals who know how to medicate animals. I'm a first time pet owner. The assistant who helped us, Sheri was nice, I had her the first time I was there but the second desk lady, younger than the first one was looking like I would steal something and was keeping an eye on me, I would talk to my sister and rabbit while paying and she kept eyeing me, I felt uncomfortable with her. I would be worried to set another appointment with them but if I were to set up another appointment with them I hope to get a better response and better emotions out of them, they could have had a hard day which I respect but I also felt unwelcome and as if my rabbit and I were an inconvenience. This was not to say they are evil but their manners were some what un-pleasant to another person. I hope this is some good feedback to show actions have impacts. read more

I have been going to AMC for about 30 years with my pets healthcare needs. Wonderful staff. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Yesterday morning I discovered that my young snake had an unfortunate encounter with one of my cats overnight. I took the snake to AMC, and though I didn't have an appointment they took her in right away. Everyone there, from the front desk, technicians, and doctor, was very kind and compassionate. Dr. Jen took time to talk to us about our snake's condition, and answered all of our questions. I have two dogs and two cats, and will certainly be bringing them to AMC for their care in the future. read more

Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They treated our dog for a skin infection and he was doing 100% the next day.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. My dog kept tearing her dewclaw and Dr. Barber recommended laser surgery. I was told it was a "minor procedure". Since My father had been taking his dog there for years I stupidly thought that AMC was reliable. I was wrong. When I picked my dog up after the surgery I had to interrogate the lady at the desk (Cindy) for aftercare information. I was told my dog only had to wear her bandages for two days and then I could remove them. Within 2 hours of taking the bandages off she had a gaping hole in her incision site. By the next morning it was completely open. I took my dog in for them to fix it. When I spoke with Dr. Barber she surmised that my dog had gotten around the ecollar THAT THEY HAD FITTED ON HER POST SURGERY. She also had an infection!!! They said she would need antibiotics for the infection AND THEN COULD NOT EVEN TELL ME IF SHE HAD ALREADY HAD ONE OF HER PILLS AT THE HOSPITAL OR NOT!!! They quoted me 400-500 for the laser removal and charged me almost 600 and THEN they charged me almost another 200 to fix a problem created by their inability to communicate and lack of professionalism.
