Let's face it. No one wants to be in need of an emergency animal hospital. However, the reality is that those of us with pets may very well find us in that situation. I have found myself in that position several times. Unfortunately, there are no emergency veterinarian services in my area. BluePearl of Appleton is the closest one which is a 2 hour drive for me. Recently, my standard poodle, Jaxx, was suffering from symptoms of gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV) or what's commonly called "bloat". So, we took the two hour journey to BluePearl of Appleton and were greeted professionally and with concern and compassion. It was a Friday night and apparently a very busy night for them. A vet tech came out to greet us and address the health concerns of Jaxx. Jaxx was taken back to for a brief examination, followed by an x-ray which confirmed that he did have bloat. Dr. Chris Stretton explained to me the dire situation Jaxx was in and the procedure that was needed to correct the problem as well as risks and options. Dr. Stretton also explained to me that due to a staffing shortage and an overwhelming amount of patients on this particular night that I might have to self transport Jaxx to another emergency animal facility 87 miles away. However, he was very honest with me and said that this would be risky due to the short window of time that this procedure needed to be performed. In other words time was of the essence. They began to prep Jaxx for me to transport but due to Dr. Stretton's concerns and a consultation with another doctor...Dr Matthew Brock... they made the decision to go ahead with the procedure. Dr. Brock, as I later found out, was already working well beyond his scheduled shift yet he was willing to stay and do the surgery himself. Words cannot describe the emotional sigh of relief that came over me at that moment! All the staff at BluePearl of Appleton, in my experience, have gone above and beyond! The receptionist, vet-techs and Dr Brock and Dr. Stretton have shown exceptional compassion, and professionalism. Due to the experience and dedication of the team at BluePearl of Appleton, Jaxx's surgical procedure was successful and therefore life-saving! Gratitude to you all....THANK YOU! read more

My first experience with Blue Pearl was with my brothers very old, very ill Boston terrier. My brother and sister in-law had decided that it was time to put her down on a Friday. Their usual vet said they did not have time, and she would have to wait until Monday. Among other issues she had glaucoma and on Sunday one of her eyes burst. She was running around the house screaming in pain and running into walls. We got a hold of her and found that the only place to go was Blue Pearl, 45 minutes away. I drove while my brother tried to comfort her, but she shrieked in pain the whole way. When we arrived, they immediately took her back and gave her sedation and pain meds. They brought her out to us and let us sit with her for a while to say goodbye. Then the doctor came and put her down while my brother held her. They were so kind and caring. Since then, I have called them several times when on the weekend my dog has eaten something stupid. Bridge mix with raisins and a quart size cardboard ice cream container. They gave me advice on what to watch for and what signs would mean I needed to bring her in. I'm grateful, they have been there when I needed them and were always kind and professional. read more

We took are 10 week old Mini Golden Doodle into Blue pearl after she was struck in the ribs by a Golf club.. They took great care of her and she is now better then ever! Although the wait was very long and edge taking These people are seriously the best and saved a puppy's life! read more

HIGHWAY ROBBERY. PROFITS OVER PET CARE. These people prey on you. You're coming in there vulnerable with a sick pet - they realize this. And they charge you insane amounts. We only came cause it happened to be a Sunday and it was an emergency situation. Charged us 1,000 to check blood cells and an xray. & then sent us else where cause their "emergency" hospital doesn't have a surgeon on staff.. they said our pet would die in 12-24 hours if we didn't do the surgery immediately. And quoted us $8,000 or more to spay our dog. Really left bad taste in my mouth. read more

I submitted a complaint to the Veterinary board for the state of WI due to my belief that negligence and malpractice caused the death of my dog. From the delayed surgery to the miscommunication and contradicting information I received throughout the entire almost week my dog was there (with written proof) proved he was not taken care of properly. The financially devistating vet bill after his death that they are upholding is appalling. Such a beautiful dog taken too soon by bad management practices and incompetent staff. I have already contacted management and asked to speak to the Administrator. I have been waiting about a week and have not gotten to speak with anoyone. Dr. Laura falsified records and Lindsey is incompetent along with Kyla the care coordinator, Winter the recepstionist, and several other staff who can't even keep their communcation straight, or do their job properly. read more

I brought my dog in late Easter night because she ate the kids Easter baskets. They were put up in the kitchen but she was able to bust down the gate and get on the counter. The staff was extremely compassionate and informative. They took all her vitals, and monitored her for approximately an hour. They didn't have to induce vomiting because she already was. They talked to me about what type of chocolate and approximately how much. Turns out milk chocolate isn't as toxic as other chocolates. Dark chocolate being the most toxic. On their scale she was just on the edge of being sever, she was not trembling or shaking and her heart rate was normal. All good signs. They assured me she was going to be fine, to encourage water and bring her back if things changed. They DIDNT CHARGE ME A DIME! read more

Had to come in on New Year's Day. The wait is understandable because critical patients go first. However when you only have ONE VET for all those patients there's bound to be problems. Two days later had to return because the diarrhea wasn't stopping. When the Dr went over the chart without us the tech gave us the feeling we were being brushed off. AGAIN only one vet on staff today??? How many people's pets are getting sicker while they're waiting. Overheard a staff member also complaining about the shortage of Dr's I heard something about a poisoning needless to say I won't be back. Should have known better since they killed my bird by failing to wake her from anesthesia. They took a suspicious amount of time to bring her back to me after the x-ray. We brought our dog in at end of life. They immediately took him back, made him comfortable, explained everything and took care of him within an hour. The frustrating part is when you call ahead, you are always told there will be a long wait as they had a lot of critical pets just arrive. THEY KILLED MY DOG!! We brought our dog in, she was breathing a little heavy and her heart seemed to be beating a little fast. She did have a heart murmur, they gave her a little oxygen, even though it was not necessary, it seemed to help. They wanted to run x-rays? I'm not exactly sure what they wanted to look for. Sheeba, my little Miniature Dachshund, got a little restless, scared to be alone in a cage, and instead of coming to get me to comfort her they decided to give her a sedative, with out asking me and they killed my little Sheeba. Yes they left her to die alone and scared in a cage. Brought her out in a blanket with her tough hanging out and handed her over. So that was my experience with these people. My mom was told over the phone her little companion was gone, not what you expect when you watch your little pupers run out the door to go bub by, thinking you are sending her somewhere to get help, not killed. Seriously Stay away from these incompetent, people, who don't even care when they kill your beloved pet, they just say, " We don't know what happened, sorry".. and they really are not in the least. read more

This place is a joke regarding emergency medicine. If your pet hasn't eaten in days, lethargic, and vomiting in their waiting room they will push you back to the line and make you wait 8 hours before even being seen just because he INITIALLY walked through the door but then rapidly declined. Vitals were not taken and labs were not drawn during this wait time. A task that takes minimal amount of time if you have competent staff. They did eventually take X-rays that diagnosed his with "gastritis" however they completely missed that his liver was enlarged. He went into liver failure. If they would have drawn labs they would have seen that his platelets were at 20 when a normal range is 148-484. He had insufficient clotting factors leading to internal bleeding that killed our barely 4 year old dog. Our dog was failed multiple times and this place was the very first stop that did. If you ever sense that something is wrong with your pet, save the wait time and take them to Madison. This place is incapable of treating complex health complications. read more

We had to make the agonizing decision to have our dog euthanized because of behaviors that were unsafe for us and anyone who might come in contact with her. From my initial phone call to the actual procedure, the staff was empathetic and non-judgmental. They naturally needed to understand why I was requesting this and at the same time they understood what a difficult decision this was. I also appreciated the resources on their website about what to consider when making this decision. My dog experienced compassionate care from everyone we encountered, and so did I. They made her as comfortable as they possibly could and were a huge help in allowing her to pass without becoming emotionally distressed. She was a sweet soul despite the trauma responses that made things so difficult for her, and I'm so grateful for the dignity and kindness they showed her as well as the expert care that gave her a peaceful transition. read more

I called ahead, and they agreed a puppy that has been vomiting and diarrhea for several hours needs immediate attention. A vet tech took a fecal sample upon arrival, took 2 hours to get results (negative for parvo). Another hour before a vet did an exam, and another 2 hours (5 hours total) before I finally left with no answers and no medication. I was told it would be several more hours before they could even administer fluids. There was no communication on the long wait time upfront, and no communication while I was there, except when I would ask for an update at the front desk. Why would I want to sit in a waiting room overnight with a sick puppy with no medical attention when I could be at home? read more

Terrible!!! Gave them notice when we were on our way (2+ hour drive). Arrived & were able to park right in front. ONE person besides us in the waiting area. Waited for 2 1/2 hours in the waiting room & were then moved back to an exam room.. We were told we were next. Then left to sit back there. After 1 1/2 hours I went out to find out what was going on. I was told that "due to the cold (56 degrees -really ????) they had alot of intakes. Really?? Then it accidentally slipped that the "vets" cherry pick what cases they want to see. I'm assuming the ones that will make them the most $ have priority. At that point we left. If they did not consider my animal a priority after waiting for 5 housrs, I could not conceive of her getting any sort of proper care. This is a business only interested in the bottom line - animals be damned. I will NEVER even consider using a Blue Pearl facility again. The rating of BluePearl made me nervous when I had to bring my dog in, but it was my only choice for an emergency vet. Unfortunately, he couldn't be saved. But we were greeted with the urgency he needed. And every staff member we encountered was incredibly kind, compassionate, and empathetic to our situation. Dr. Carlson gave us options, explanations, and all the time we needed to process and ultimately say goodbye. I can't speak to other situations, but in our emergency, I have no complaints of this establishment. Also, there is a beautiful outdoor space with a "rainbow bridge". My kids and I sat outside while we waited and found a bit of peace. read more

I had to make the horrible decision today to help my chihuahua Over the Rainbow Bridge . They couldn't have been more kind and compassionate. They got us right in , a nice room not a cold sterile room. I was given as much time as I needed with my baby . They were so kind , letting me take as much time as I needed afterwards as well. The cost was incredibly reasonable . The staff and the doctor had tears in their eyes as well , I even got a hug from the front desk gal . As part of a time it was , they made it easier. read more

This place is criminal when it comes to the specialty Drs. I had an ACL surgery scheduled for my dog they told me they take half down when I drop off. Got there and they wanted more than the minimum full estimate paid in advance. I had to then wait for 45 mins to move around money, my dog is very skiddish and they had no concern. I've never in my life of many pets been asked to pay more than the minimum upfront. The woman helping me was rude and kept calling me "maam" condescendingly. Then didn't even take me back in a room , just grabbed him and took him back and didn't do the surgery till 5 hours later. I called at 5 pm to see if I could change my pick up time for the next day and I was told there is no one there to do that and they don't know what time the scheduler comes in tomorrow so there's no way to know if I can change it. She just kept repeating herself over and over. I hung up as my frustration was at its limit. How dare they have my dog and rexude to communicate with me! I called back and talked to a very nice girl named Bree and she kindly helped me reschedule and checked on Conor. I have no faith in how they are caring for my dog. The CEO and other officers should be ashamed at how they are running this place and the risks they are putting animals in with short staffed poorly trained employees. I'm only praying for the best when I pick him up tomorrow. Update: next day received a call about dis garage and there was no record of me changing my appointment time. Brought my new puppy in for concerning symptoms. The staff was very friendly and ultimately the care we got seemed comprehensive, but the communication was poor. We got mixed messages multiple times. For example, we were told to wait in the lobby while our puppy got his x-rays and blood work then someone would bring him out right after and tell us if we should wait in the hospital or bring him home before blood work came back. We waited over an hour for them to bring him out and it was only when we asked for an update that they said all the work had already been done and we would need to wait another hour for the blood work results. We had to request they reunite us with our puppy. None of these individually would have been a problem but the communication was seriously lacking and concerning. Eve more concerning, when we were checking out we were given a de-worming medication. I asked why because the vet never even mentioned this. The tech went back to ask the vet and apparently the vet thought that a parasite could have been contributing to our puppy's symptoms but never told us that, just expected us to take some random medication home. This was our first time at this hospital and I have been to other hospitals with my 2 cats over the years and have always been so impressed with communication with the parents, this one didn't cut it. Edit to respond to the owners comment: You provide that same response on many posts and I'm not actually complaining about the wait time at all. I understand triage. It was the lack of communication when something changed and then providing a medication that was not at all explained to us. I only add this so you can realize that your triage time is not what I think needs to be improved, but rather inappropriate communication with is very different. read more

We waited for four hours to see a technician to take my dogs history. At the four hour mark, I inquired about how much linger the wait would be. I was told four hours is typical and it would be at least a couple more hours. Again, this was only to see the technician! Who knows how long it would have been to see a vet. We left. As I am unable to reply to the Business Owner's response, I want to make it very clear that the "delivery issues" they mention and imply might be my mom's fault, simply aren't fact. Time after time she was put on hold, told it was coming from Georgia, coming from Florida, lost in the mail, and a plethora of other non-answers. She was finally promised that she could pick up the check today at the Appleton office, and she called to verify before making the trip, only to learn that AGAIN she had been lied to. She can come tomorrow because they never sent the check as promised. I told her to insist it be overnighted and get a tracking number. I verified via FedEx that a label had been printed TODAY. To clarify, our pup has been out of their care for TWO MONTHS. Every time she called to inquire she was given a different story, a different excuse, and was never provided any proof until today that check even existed. Also important to note that she waited seven weeks for the refund of the deposit overage when she took her cat there years ago. A business shouldn't be using client's money to cover their expenses. We've visited BluePearl twice in 2024, about 4 months apart. Our first visit, they looked my dog over and determined he was non-emergent and we could go home. They gave me instructions for what to look for that might indicate he needed to come back. There was no charge, for which I was very grateful. Our next visit was more emergent. They took great care of both of us and provided a lot of helpful information on what my dog was experiencing and how to treat him at home. When I first called I was put on hold without being told I was being put on hold. I thought that was weird. I wasn't sure so I hung up and called back and got the same thing. I said to my husband i think they put you on hold right away. I hung up again and this time someone answered and asked me to hold. Someone came back on and was polite and friendly. She did mention they were busy and we would have to wait a few hours. That was ok with us. Unfortunately this is the only place in town for emergency. We have been here 5 hours and still have not seen the vet when I started writing this review. Unfortunately I cannot talk my husband into taking our dog home and going to the vet tomorrow. I have never waited this long in an emergency hospital. I know they take priority but over 5 hours is ridiculous . The receptionist said we could go and they won't charge us. Wow! I hope someone can open another place where we can go. After sitting in the lobby for 3.5 hours and in the waiting room for 2 hours without seeing the vet we decided to leave. We brought our 15 year old chihuahua yo be seen for sudden weakness and heavy breathing .We waited for 3 hrs without any updates and when finally the dr came we were told that they are not exactly sure what is going on but they can try and give her some fluids, so we decided to leave.My daughter went and asked for an update before the dr came and she was told that "they are almost done with the procedure "!? and after waiting for 2hrs in the main lobby,they finally put us in a room for another hour, when I asked the staff about an update I was told that "the dr has been looking for you but could not find you"!! When reading some reviews, we were skeptical. Not from the area we had to Trust someone. We chose Blue Pearl in Appleton and Dr Bruce to do surgery to our injured blood hound. ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! Our experience started with friendly front desk staff, friendly surgical nurse and a warm, Caring, compassionate,professional Veterinarian, Dr Bruce. The Doctor spent a lot of time making sure our questions were answered and it was obvious he cares for others pets. The surgery went well, the follow-up was exactly what he said it would be and our sweet dog is on her way to a full recovery. Thank you to everyone at Blue Pearl Appleton. A useless "emergency vet." They advocate for your pet to suffer. Unless they are dying. Then you can bring them in so they can put the pet to sleep, but if they have a broken bone or fracture, then they have to suffer. Another emergency trip to BluePearl. I had a kitten who had just had a bladder blockage and needed to be some place that could monitor him overnight. Although I haven't changed my opinion of the front desk, or the length of time me and kitten waited, I have to say I love the doctor I saw and now today I'm being contacted and being told exactly how he is. Please work on training your front desk to be kind and empathetic when someone has a mini meltdown after waiting an hour alone in an exam room with their sick or injured pet. I was treated like just another person in line When I called last night 12/26. I had concerned about the amount of times my cat threw up within 24 hours. And the lady was BEYOND RUDE. Saying well if you want to schedule something the fee is 150. I said, so I guess I just would like to know if this sounds serious. And I got told in a very rude tone. "I can't diagnose your cat over the phone. I don't know his Vitals..." and she went on for a little bit. I had rememberEd that my Cat had eaten quite A bit of a plant and told her this.
