    Thank you for rescuing me!
    Karen S.

I adopted my 2 year old Shih Tzu Handel (Randall) from Animal Savers, from a listing on Pet Finders. I completed the on-line application and was contacted by Diane for a verbal interview. She asked me a series of questions confirming that I was ready and prepared to adopt a dog. Then we discussed in detail Randall's personality and how he would react to my senior cat. I was very impressed with the knowledge she had about this little rescue. We scheduled an appointment to meet Randall after he was neutered and able to be placed. I drove to a ranch house in the Sacramento area and experienced the property to be normal in comparison to any other private rescue facility that I have ever visited. When Diane met us she was walking the small dogs in an off leash group within the fenced in acreage. It was the cutest site as 6 small dogs completely circled her as they walked along. Randall was one of them. We spent a long time with her discussing the Shih Tzu's personality and getting to know him. We decided it was a perfect match and Randall is my wonderful, sweet dog. As for the adoption, there were no hidden fees as other reviewer's have stated and the price of Randall was posted on the website so it was not a surprise. I found the price to be comparable to other Shih Tzu's listed in private dog rescues. After having him I can truthfully say that Diane took the time to get to know Randall and post on PetFinder's personality traits that he continues to have. Had I taken the thrifty approach to adopt a pet I could have gone to a County funded shelter and picked out a dog with an unknown personality. I prefer to support private dog rescue organizations as they truly love dogs and have dedicated their live to saving unfortunate animals who deserve a happy home. I highly recommend Animal Savers and will contact Diane when the time comes to add another dog or cat to our household.

They were so kind, as we said goodbye to our tiny boy that we had bottle fed and raised from birth. The in house diagnostics are great. We didn't have to wait long at all for the test results. The 2nd time, we brought in our elderly girl. She was 16. When her vet turned us away when we came to tell them we were coming in (they told us "maybe tomorrow"), we headed here. She'd been sick a while, we knew it was coming. Of course, that didn't make it any easier. The staff here was absolutely wonderful. As soon as we walked in, they took us out of the lobby so we wouldn't have to sit with all the happy/healthy animals. They didn't question us, they saw her and told us we were making the right choice. They brought her a soft cat bed to lay in. They gave us all the time we needed to hold her and love her, until we were ready. No pressure. Then they allowed my 16 year old daughter to hold her beloved girl until she was gone. We were allowed more time with her. Then they gave us each a vile of her beautiful fur. We weren't rushed. We did everything on our terms/time. And our girl left this world surrounded in love. I would 100% recommend PETS Referral Center. I hope we never have to go back. But, we would of we had too.

I went online and filled out the forms necessary for an emergency visit. When I arrived they were already expecting her, despite it being 4th of July, things moved quickly. Our dog was of old age, not eating, and lethargic. I was expecting that it was likely she was in the middle of passing away, which the team confirmed. The team put me in a room where I could talk with my family and make a decision with them (since I was dog sitting and everyone else was out of town). While the decision needed to be made quickly about next steps, they were empathetic and patient with us. We opted to put our girl to sleep; she was in a lot of suffering. The doctor was so respectful and it was a peaceful process. Thank you for caring for our Chispita. We are grateful for a sad yet peaceful experience.

She also hosts monthly classes that are free for clients who work with her regularly and has put in lots of additional time inviting dogs (and their people) to tag along on pack walks. "Balanced" dog training includes tons of treats, lots of play, and the safety needed to make sure no one gets hurt. We weren't sure what to expect from training with Kathy, but it's been a wonderful balance of true fun, silliness, joy, and clear and firm boundaries. We're so grateful to have her in our lives.

We had already tried multiple trainers, different techniques, and even followed our vet's suggestion to try antidepressants--but nothing was helping (in fact, the medication only made things worse). The moment I spoke to Kathy on the phone, I felt confident she truly understood the problem and could guide us in the right direction. And she absolutely has. Over the past year, Checkers has made tremendous progress thanks to Kathy's knowledge, patience, and the clear guidance she gave us. We followed her suggestions carefully--even switching vets based on her recommendation--and the results have been life-changing. Earlier this year, we had to travel out of the country and trusted Kathy to board Checkers. During that time, he developed a beautiful bond with her partner Dan. This was nothing short of amazing, as Checkers has always been fearful of men. Watching their relationship grow has been such a gift. With Kathy's help (and the influence of her own two balanced dogs), Checkers has learned how to be a dog--something I once thought might never happen. He now participates in pack walks and can even run off-leash in the fields, something I couldn't have imagined a year ago. If you're struggling with your dog's behavior and feel like nothing is working, do yourself and your dog a favor and call Kathy. She and Dan have changed our lives, and I am endlessly grateful for the care and dedication they've shown to Checkers and to us.

We came across Cutie Paws online. Their reviews were good and they are close to us, so we booked a four night stay for the July 4th holiday weekend. Drop-off went great ...but I was still a bit worried since it was his first time there. My concerns were all swiftly put to rest. Wendy and Mantin took amazing care of our pup, sent photos and videos (their place is very cute and charming with a lovely backyard). We just picked him up and he is very happy and well cared for. I am so glad I found them and would recommend without hesitation.

It's clear they understand dogs on an individual level -- their personalities, quirks, and routines. When I picked Lola up, she was relaxed, happy, and clearly well cared for. No stress, no overwhelm -- just a tired pup who had a great time. The facility was clean, safe, and thoughtfully run, and I appreciated how organized and responsive the staff were. I absolutely recommend this place to anyone who wants their dog cared for with kindness, consistency, and real attention to detail. Lola will definitely be coming back!
